Contested deletion[edit]

This page should not be speedily deleted because similar categories exist such as Category:Canadian YouTubers and Category:Canadian TikTokers. I don't know what @Picard's Facepalm: means by this category "leading to massive ambiguity". Sahaib (talk) 18:17, 19 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, "unnecessary category" isn't a valid speedy deletion criteria. As you said in your edit summary, WP:CFD is the correct place to discuss the usefulness of a category. IffyChat -- 18:31, 19 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
To be honest - both of those cats need to be 86'ed as well. It provides no notable encyclopedic value, and by ambiguity I mean that any Joe.Random living in Canada (or elsewhere) can be a twitch service streamer. Upon that cat's criteria - I should have a WP page - which is just nuts. This is a level of granularity that is of little to no value to the project, and the notable person's presence or utilization of that service is likely already explained in their respective article(s). I speedy'd it because to be honest I was completely flabbergasted that such a cat had been VERY recently created - and that it existed at all. It does indeed border on G1 Patent Nonsense.
That being said - your point is taken - and I will certainly be launching an effort to get this nixed in CfD - and will likely be pursuing it for other similarly framed cats. I have seen in other discussions that I am far from the only person who has this perspective of the lacking value to the project. Picard's Facepalm (talk) 20:14, 19 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Picard's Facepalm: it should be noted that I moved all the articles in this category from Category:Twitch (service) streamers which was created in 2017. It seems the problem is the articles included in the category as opposed to the category itself. If an article doesn't mention their Twitch account, then they shouldn't be in the category. I will clarify - because no, it is not the people in the cat. The issue is the existence of the cat itself. Being a twitch streamer is not a point of noteworthiness, and in all honesty is completely irrelevant. It is akin to making cats of People Who Brush Their Teeth In The Morning or People Who Throw Superbowl Parties. It is not noteworthy, it is irrelevant and it offers no encyclopedic value. Expanding on my point, I removed the category from Robbie Amell as he is an example of a person who has a Twitch account, but this fact has not been discussed by non-primary sources. Whilst an example of who should be included is Iain Stirling as he has been noted for his Twitch account in non-primary sources. Sahaib (talk) 20:50, 19 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
