Baghaichari Union (Bengali: বাঘাইছড়ি ইউনিয়ন) is a union parishad under Baghaichari Upazila of Rangamati District in eastern Bangladesh.

Geography[edit]

Baghaichari Union has a total area of 11,044 acres (4,469 ha). It is bounded on the south and west by the Kachalong River (across which lie Kadarmara and Rupokari unions). It borders Marisha Union to the north, Sajek Union to the northeast, and Sharoyatali Union to the east.[1] The union parishad office is 3 kilometres (1.9 mi) south-east of Bagaichhari Municipality, the headquarters of Bagaichhari Upazila.[2]

Demographics[edit]

According to the 2011 Bangladesh census, Baghaichari Union had 2,186 households and a population of 10,318. Of these, the ethnic population was 8,752, almost all of whom were Chakmas. Buddhism was the majority religion (85.2% of the population). Muslims were the second-largest religious community (14.3% of the population). The literacy rate (age 7 and over) was 45.4%, compared to the national average of 51.8%.[3][4]

Education[edit]

There is one secondary school in the union, Ugal Chhari High School.[5]
