Am I in the right place?[edit]

Hi John.

I'm available to help if you need me. If so, is this the place? --Anthonyhcole (talk · contribs · email) 01:14, 7 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

It is indeed. I expect you're asleep now, but we may need suggestions for tomorrow when we finish, also check out the "articles worked on" section. Everybody else - please say hi when you are around, Wiki at Royal Society John (talk) 10:13, 7 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Ready[edit]

Right. I hope I am not late or early, given the confusing time difference. Anyhow, I'll be around to answer any Wiki concerns and work with any interested users on the pages being edited. --LT910001 (talk) 10:09, 7 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Great. We're just getting going here now. There are already some suggestions on the main page. Wiki at Royal Society John (talk) 10:13, 7 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. I'll occupy myself with Pyramidal tracts and Spinothalamic tract. --LT910001 (talk) 10:22, 7 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Great - say when/if you'd like a check. Wiki at Royal Society John (talk) 10:40, 7 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
OK. I understand the session's probably winding down, but I wouldn't mind a look over the structure and function sections of Pyramidal tracts... haven't touched the other sections of the article yet, though.--LT910001 (talk) 12:41, 7 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I'm awake, John, and happy to answer questions, help with formatting, whatever. I'll just keep refreshing this page. --Anthonyhcole (talk · contribs · email) 11:03, 7 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I'm helping out (well, trying to), so if you are still around I've been looking at receptive field with Edwardx and trying to work out what to do there. We looked over the lead and bizarrely Edward has spotted a portrait in the library we are in of Charles Sherrington, the guy who came up with the concept in 1906. So we've linked that. Every little bit helps. We will carry on working on that article - would you have any suggestions to put on the talk page? Carcharoth (talk) 11:14, 7 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Are you at the RS meeting Carcharoth? I've left a question at Talk:Receptive field#Auditory system. --Anthonyhcole (talk · contribs · email) 11:35, 7 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Yes. Edwardx is asking one of the scientists now what he thinks of the article. They are currently looking at the Scholarpedia article on receptive field which looks better to me... Carcharoth (talk) 11:44, 7 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
And me. Streets ahead. --Anthonyhcole (talk · contribs · email) 12:22, 7 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Neuroscience biographies[edit]

Working from Volumes 1-4 of The History of Neuroscience in Autobiography (Society for Neuroscience: 1996, 1998, 2001, 2004), I'm listing the people in the volumes as some have articles and some don't:

Volume 1
Volume 2
Volume 3
Volume 4

There is a fifth volume that has been published. Carcharoth (talk) 12:09, 7 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

May I start one? Denise Albe-Fessard? --Anthonyhcole (talk · contribs · email) 12:32, 7 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for that. She has an article on the French-language Wikipedia and I've added a link to that (I think it would show up in your watchlist as a WikiData edit, even though I clicked the link here on en-wikipedia to add it). When I do lists like this, to get an idea of the coverage Wikipedia has (though this may not necessarily be a representative sample of neuroscientists, it gives some idea), I try and summarise some stats. There are 60 people on that list (more if you include volume 5). I checked through the list to make sure the blue links were pointing to articles on the people in question and correcting (creating redirects) where articles existed for apparent red links. At the time of writing, all the red links are genuine (i.e. there is no article at the moment on those people). Not all will have the same level of notability. Four articles created yesterday. So before the workshop there were 30 red links and 30 blue links. Exactly 50%. I'm going to list the red links down here to make it easier to see how that changes over the next few weeks/months/years. Carcharoth (talk) 09:50, 8 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The History of Neuroscience in Autobiography[edit]

It turns out that there are eight volumes published of The History of Neuroscience in Autobiography. The chapters relating to various people are available online here (at The Society for Neuroscience). Using that listing, the list above can be extended further, and articles created and/or expanded at some point using these volumes as a source. Carcharoth (talk) 20:27, 11 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Leaving in London[edit]

We have to go in London now, but several of us will follow up on things later. Anthony, is it very early or very late for you? Thanks to all online participants. Wiki at Royal Society John (talk) 12:30, 7 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Neither. It's 8:45pm. --Anthonyhcole (talk · contribs · email) 12:46, 7 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Wish you all the best; to the participants, hope you enjoyed your stay and will consider coming back. --LT910001 (talk) 12:49, 7 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
