Some ideas[edit]

  • It would be good to have suggestions to help participants select articles to work on. It would be nice if we could come up with a list of the top 25 or so core biophysics articles, much like WP:VITAL, so we can direct attention to high-importance articles that need to be worked on. It would also be nice to have a "requested articles" list for people to suggest articles that they'd like to be created or improved.
  • We should link to introductory material for new Wikipedians, such as Wikipedia:Your first article and Wikipedia:Training/For students.
  • We should encourage participants to use the Did you know and Good Article processes for their articles, as appropriate.
  • It would be nice to encourage participants to upload media—I know many scientists have micrographs and other images that aren't bound for publications but would illustrate a point on a Wikipeida article well. Contributing diagrams would also be helpful. Perhaps we could have a sub-award for image contributions?

Hey Antony! We're implementing a couple of these, at the physical contest we're going to give a presentation on all that introductory material, with the appropriate links. I'll upload it to Commons at some point as well. We're also briefing them on media and such, I think giving an award for image work would be a great idea! I also think having a vital articles list/suggestions forum is a good idea. For starters, we're pointing them to List of biophysicists and basic biophysics topics, as that's a really easy entry point. I'm so glad you're willing to judge and support this! Thanks very much - these are all excellent ideas. Altho most of them are either in the to-do list on the project page, or covered in what we intend to present at the Society meeting next week, we should without doubt make them much more obvious. We don't need a separate image award, since that (or anything else someone comes up with) is specifically described as a valid contest entry; also, if we have too many high-calibre entries, I could probably persuade the society to let us give a couple more awards. I'll start by adding a few notes to the contest page. Dcrjsr (talk) 14:58, 28 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, I've added some links to the contest page under a "How to participate" section so that they'll be more prominent. Of course, please add to or subtract from them as necessary. (Also, I'm at the conference and will be there on Tuesday.) Antony–22 (talkcontribs) 03:59, 4 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks Antony - that's excellent, see you tomorrow! Keilana|Parlez ici 14:26, 4 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Contest Extension[edit]

Any chance for a 1-week extension on the edit deadline? --Ceing (talk) 04:21, 15 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, we'd definitely be willing to consider an entry still. I much apologize for not having picked up this message in a timely way - I had a family health emergency and then was hiking, but am now back more in touch. If you see this, let me know what the entry would be and when you did the last week of work on it. Dcrjsr (talk) 05:37, 12 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
