--Sugaar 21:38, 6 November 2006 (UTC)

I've also added more templates to many other articles and stubs in category Basque. Yet there are a lot that still need such templates.
As I navigated I also created new articles on Aezkoa and Ibon Koteron. The related article on Kepa Junkera has a link to his biography but is still in stub stage. --Sugaar 11:37, 10 November 2006 (UTC)

Userbox

Proposal: change the ikurriña by the lauburu (alternatively have two userboxes)

Reason 1: it would fit better with the project banner

Reason 2: the lauburu is maybe somewhat less political, while being identitarian. Personally I don't like the Ikurriña, even if you can probably label me as nationalist, I find it too Christian. Please discuss. --Sugaar 12:08, 8 November 2006 (UTC)

I made my own version. You choose. --Sugaar 00:33, 27 November 2006 (UTC)
Personal taste apart, I think it makes more sense to use the ikurrina one (sorry). I also think we ought to be promoting consensus, so if the majority here want the lauburu, okay, but I doubt it. --A R King 11:02, 27 November 2006 (UTC)
I'm for diversity. I dislike the ikurriña quite a bit: it's so Christian and traditionalist!
For me the choice is this or no userbox. Others may like the ikurriña better, it's up to each one, I believe. --Sugaar 06:01, 28 November 2006 (UTC)

Subproject: History of the Basques

I just finished the entry Duchy of Vasconia, based in Auñamendi encyclopedia, and I'm thinking it would be a great idea to create a series template and develope articles in as to create a self-consistent (and as accurate and NPOV as possible) History of the Basques series in Wikipedia.

My intent is to focus in this subproject specially. --Sugaar 18:06, 17 November 2006 (UTC)

I'm now editing (cleaning up) the Basque people entry and clearly the History needs its own entry (it's just too long). Which do you think would be the best name?

  • History of the Basques
  • History of the Basque people
  • History of the Basque Country
  • Basque history
  • other

???

Basque history template

I just created a draft based in the one for Scotland. Check this very raw draft in my user sandbox (to be copied somewhere else once it's more mature).

Notes:

  • Basque party wars refer to the banderizos wars (not sure how to translate it)
  • Some links are provisional to related articles: witch-hunt sends you to Sorginak, Navarrese right (Pyrenean right?) sends you to Fuero.
  • I'm sure there's a list of counts of Araba somewhere.
  • Many other articles should be made up from scratch or just deleted from the template.

Basque Navy

does anyone know anything about the Basque Navy around 1936 to 1937? I found this link but i dont know how to read euskara very well so if anyone could help i think that this would be a great addition to the basque wikiproject. Here is the link Basque Navy — Preceding unsigned comment added by Joebengo (talkcontribs)

It is in Spanish!
Personally I have other priorities but it would be a great adition, specially if we start working the Basque history more systematically. --Sugaar 05:58, 28 November 2006 (UTC)

Basque people article dispute

Greetings. I'm getting in a dispute in the Basque people article on what the related groups of the infobox should contain. It looks like it could degenerate in an edit war and political discussion, so I'm asking for attention from other interested people in order to de-polarize the still incipient conflict.

Basically the points are two:

  1. Related peoples are: Gascons (Riojans maybe) and, in general, Western Europeans.
  2. Related peoples are: Gascons, Spanish, French and, in general, Western Europeans.

The arguments for the second are, in my understanding clearly political (we discussed genetics for a while but it seems that LSLM realized that such approach gave no fruits).

I have posted several examples of other stateless ethnicities infoboxes but it seems to be of no help. He's falling in accusing me of "fundamentalism" and stuff like that. Whatever your viewpoint of the issue it's clear that less heated viewpoints are urgently needed. Thanks.

(Note: I'm posting the same request at Ethnic groups Wikiproject). --Sugaar 14:29, 3 December 2006 (UTC)

I made it an offcial RfC. You can comment directly there if you wish: Talk:Basque_people#RfC:_Related_ethnic_groups_at_infobox --Sugaar 15:02, 3 December 2006 (UTC)

RfC: Gernika

Someone has reverted my move to Gernika-Lumo. I've opened a RfC: Talk:Guernica (city)#RfC. Please comment. --Sugaar 17:12, 15 December 2006 (UTC)

Template: "History of the Basque people"

I have created the navigational template Template:History of the Basque people, that can be placed in historical articles on the Basques. It can also be expanded or serve as reference for the creation of new articles that right now don't exist (red links) or are placed inside other articles (explore the links)

To place the template just add:

{{History of the Basque people}}

But be careful with images and so on. For instance I decided not to place it in List of Navarrese monarchs because it would interfere with the elegantly placed blasons.

Hope you like it. --Sugaar 02:53, 17 December 2006 (UTC)

Guideline for topnyms

I've created a subpage of the Wikiproject to discuss this issue and create a guideline. I've written a base essay and it's open for discussion and modification.

Wikipedia Day Awards

Hello, all. It was initially my hope to try to have this done as part of Esperanza's proposal for an appreciation week to end on Wikipedia Day, January 15. However, several people have once again proposed the entirety of Esperanza for deletion, so that might not work. It was the intention of the Appreciation Week proposal to set aside a given time when the various individuals who have made significant, valuable contributions to the encyclopedia would be recognized and honored. I believe that, with some effort, this could still be done. My proposal is to, with luck, try to organize the various WikiProjects and other entities of wikipedia to take part in a larger celebrartion of its contributors to take place in January, probably beginning January 15, 2007. I have created yet another new subpage for myself (a weakness of mine, I'm afraid) at User talk:Badbilltucker/Appreciation Week where I would greatly appreciate any indications from the members of this project as to whether and how they might be willing and/or able to assist in recognizing the contributions of our editors. Thank you for your attention. Badbilltucker 21:29, 29 December 2006 (UTC)

Arane or Arene; a beautiful neighbourhood of Bermeo

Could somebody tell me how this neighbourhood is actually called?
