Discussed with Assistant Principal Melissa Highton about holding a 'Languages of Britain' Wikipedia Conference in June at the university.
Finalised plans for the Women and Religion editathon at the School of Divinity on 2nd November 2016 in conjunction with WikiProject Women in Red.
Led a Reproductive Biomedicine Wikipedia Research session attended by 39 undergraduate students (The cohort were 100% female)
Held a Women in STEM Wikipedia editathon for Ada Lovelace Day on 11th October 2016 which garnered attention from STV News.
Led a Translation Studies MSc project to translate articles to different language Wikipedias.
Arranged meeting with the university's Gaelic Officer, Bria Mason, to discuss ways in which Wikimedia & the university's Gaelic Plan can support one another; in addition to supporting the upcoming role of Gaelic Wikipedian in Residence at the National Library of Scotland.

Contacted the Edinburgh Science Festival 2017 with a view to leading a session.
Discussing preparations for Library & Special Collections 'Taster' sessions taking place over the next couple of months.
Advocated for an image proposal for CC-BY images from the university's images.is.ed.ac.uk website which will hopefully be the first of many collections to move to an open basis.
Continuing discussions about the 12 new Wikimedia Ambassadors at the university can feasibly contribute to ensuring a sustained relationship with Wikimedia during the residency and post the residency.
Continung discussions advocating for student volunteers & requests for feedback for the Wikipedia and Libraries white paper.
Met with the Student Association's Sabbatical Officers and contacted each of the 260 Student Societies with a view to collaborating together.

Staff Workshops and Events[edit]

One Wikipedia training session took place for staff in October on the 12th of October. This has led to increased interest in Wiki Loves Monuments and further workshops planned for the Science & Engineering on 7th December 2016.

Ran a Wikipedia in the Classroom assignment in Reproductive Biomedicine to 4th year undergraduates - the intention is to video interview students on their experiences creating the 8 new Reproductive Biology articles and continue the assignment next year. Only this time as a summative assessment.
Ran a Wikipedia in the Classroom assignment in World Christianity MSc where students conduct a literature review to create unrepresented terms on World Christianity on Wikipedia.
Ran a Wikipedia in the Classroom assignment in Translation Studies MSc where students translate 4000 word articles from one language Wikipedia to another by the end of the semester as part of their independent study module. The intention is to continue this assignment next semester too.
Met with Peter Evans of the Digital Education MSc course as he is keen to include a Wikipedia element in the portfolio of digital skills portion of the Wider Themes module.
Met with course leaders from Social Anthropology to discuss a Wikipedia editathon assignment researching terms related to Social Anthropology as a starting point for future collaborations and assignments.
Met with course leaders from the Reid School of Music to discuss the residency, Wikipedia Education assignments and how they might go about including a Wikipedia assignment in their course design.
Discussed the Edinburgh Digital Ambassador programme with EUSA Sabbatical Officers and they are keen tnat students are rewarded for their interactions with Wikimedia either through course credits or through initiatives like the Edinburgh Digital Ambassador Scheme.
Continued planning arrangements with colleagues in Veterinary Medicine to run a) a further staff editathon on 26th October 2016 and b) their first student Wikipedia editing session (utilising Dr. Chris Harlow's Reproductive Medicine sessions as their guideline).

I created a class assignment pages for Reproductive Biomedicine and Translation Studies with resources and how-to guides clearly laid out so the assignments can be repeated in the future.
I created a blog article for Ada Lovelace Day - Desperately Seeking Ada.
I created a blog article for Samhuinn: Gaelic Festival for the Dead- Samhuinn Gaelic editathon for the dead
I edited further videos from Repo Fringe 2016 (Intro to Wikisource) which have been uploaded to Youtube and migrated these across (along with now a total of 76 other media clips) to a newly created 'Wikimedian in Residence' channel on the the University of Edinburgh's 'Media Hopper' service.
I edited the 'Ada Lovelace Day: the Maths of Ada Lovelace' video by Dr. Chris Hollings from the University of Oxford and uploaded to Media hopper here.
Artwork for Ada Lovelace Day, Samhuinn and Edinburgh Gothic has all been successfully created and sent to the printers for processing.

Ada Lovelace Day[edit]

Sheila May Edmonds - British mathematician, a Lecturer at the University of Cambridge, and Vice-Principal of Newnham College from 1960 to 1981.
Ann Katharine Mitchell - Decrypted messages encoded in the German Enigma cypher at Bletchley Park. Wrote several academic books about the psychological effects of divorce on children. Won a place to study maths at Lady Margaret Hall, University of Oxford (1940–1943). At the time relatively few women went to Oxford and even fewer studied maths. There were only 5 women in Ann Williamson's year at Oxford and she remarked that the men coming to university had been taught maths much better at school than the girls. Indeed, it was suggested to her by the headmistress of her school that studying maths was "unladylike" and her parents had to overrule her school to allow her to take up her place at Oxford. Returned to university in 1970s to study social policy and in 1980 she graduated with a Master of Philosophy from the University of Edinburgh.
Margaret Marrs - Senior Operator of the original Electronic Delay Storage Automatic Computer (EDSAC). EDSAC was an early British computer constructed at the University of Cambridge Mathematical Laboratory in England, and the second electronic digital stored-program computer to go into regular service.
Code First: Girls - Not for Profit Social Enterprise that works exclusively with women in Britain to develop coding skills. The organisation promotes gender diversity and female participation in the technology sector by offering free and paid training and courses for students and professional women. It also supports businesses to train staff and develop talent management policies. As of June 2016, Code First: Girls is reported to have provided in excess of £1.5 million worth of free coding courses to more than 1,500 women since 2013.

Projects in Development[edit]

'150 years since the foundation of Regius Chair of Engineering' - Professor Gordon Masterton at the School of Engineering has contacted me about a possible collaboration with a view to this anniversary in 2017/2018. Update 18/10 - Have followed up on this and Gordon Masteron has confirmed they would like to run a Wikipedia event for this anniversary.
'International alumni - Vice Principal (International), James Smith, has been authorised to erect a number of blue plaques celebrating the contribution of Edinburgh University's international alumni on the international stage. I have been tasked with identifying suitably notable subjects for our historians to investigate & help create articles on. (To be confirme). - Update 18/10 - Have chased up on this and offered support but no word as yet.
Vet School editing training for Staff CPD - mooted for October/November 2016. Update 18/10 - This is now going ahead with a Veterinary Medicine staff event on 26th October 2016 and one for students on 16th November 2016.
A continuation of the Eurostemcell editathon - with European partner labs this time - In discussions with Dr. Cathy Southworth about holding an editing session in late Autumn with a Danish partner lab. Update 14/09 - The editathon is going ahead in a European partner lab in Copenhagen on 30th November now that a Danish Wikipedia trainer has been sourced.
Digital Education MSc - Discussions to take place about how to embed an element of Wikipedia training within this course on the Wider Themes module. Update 18/10 - Met with Peter Evans and discussed all the different options available for student involvement. To be continued.
National Library of Scotland - Kelvinhall relaunch Wikimedia event - To be confirmed as project is delayed. Update 18/10 - The KelvinHall has just opened as of 14th September and Gill Hamilton has said they would b ready for an editathon in Spring 2017.
Edinburgh Gothic - Planned in for 12th November which will cover art, architecture, music, literature (historic and contemporary), film. Penny Fielding at the English Literature department is supporting the project as are the National Library of Scotland (hosting the event), the National Galleries of Scotland and the University of Sheffield's Centre for Gothic Studies.
Translate-a-thon - Reaching out to international students to translate articles from English Wikipedia to their own native language Wikipedia. Training sessions were held on 23rd September 2016 and 30th September as part of the Translation studies MSc course and the students have until the end of the semester to complete the assignment. Early indications are that this worked extremely well and can be continued in future semesters at the course leader's request.
Festival of Architecture 2016 - Have contacted a number of people at the Edinburgh College of Art and at the Festival of Architecture itself about potentially running an architecture-themed editathon to celebrate the Festival of Architecture 2016.Update 16/09 - The finale for FOA is 18th November 2016 so have put out feelers to FOA and the Edinburgh College of Art about whether we could put something on for this event.
Between the worlds of the living and the dead - An editathon for Halloween/Samhain 2016 celebrating the lives of those who have passed on through creating Wikipedia pages utilising obituaries from Scottish newspaper archives and celebrating Celtic history & folklore.
The Library & University Collections - a number of recommendations have been submitted to the L&UC team for suggested editathon events which may be the best vehicle for making best use of their collection materials and opening them up to a global community. Taster training sessions have been identified as the way to take this forward.
Year of History, Heritage and Archaeology - Cara Jones, Adopt-a-Monument Project Manager from Archaeology Scotland, has suggested a collaboration on an archaeology editathon, which was one of my suggestions to the L&UC team.
Botanic Concrete - Govanhill Community Editathon collaboration proposed with Viviana Checchia, Public Engagement Curator at the Centre for Contemporary Arts, Glasgow.
Divinity editathon - to be held at New College on 2nd November in conjunction with WikiProject Women in Red.
The History of Nursing editathon - mooted for Friday 4th November 2016.
