Comment: This and nine related templates listed under "Ticonderoga..." at Wikipedia:Database reports/Unused templates (filtered)/1 appear to have been substed by Parsecboy into the articles that were using them. Perhaps that editor could link to the discussion that resulted in orphaning these templates. – Jonesey95 (talk) 14:45, 25 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • No discussion; there's simply no need to populate infoboxes with templates like these that make it harder for other editors to correct problems with them, so I boldly got rid of them. Take the linked template as an example: say someone comes along and decides to break out the crew by number of officers and enlisted men; rather than simply editing the article directly, they have to recognize the fact that they're looking at a template, figure out how to get there, and edit that page. We shouldn't be putting up barriers to editing to newer editors - looking at inscrutable code like this, becoming frustrating, and abandoning their idea is just one of many reasons newbies don't stick around. Add on top of that that "{{Ticonderoga class aircraft carrier complement}}" is longer than "3448 officers and enlisted" (along with the non-zero cost of calling up the template every time the page is loaded), and one has to call into question the entire purpose of the template.
