Reason: Striking image with high EV capturing the behaviour of a rare and dangerous animal in the wild. I think the exceptional encyclopaedic value compensates for minor technical shortcomings.

What you see is the animal eating. That is a different thing from presenting the animal as a whole, and obviously has to be focused on the mouth. Many FPs only show the head of the animal. Also, the usual desire at FPC to see the whole body of the animal and all sharp, leads to the bias of having mostly static images, and very few showing active behaviour. From 41 reptile FPs only two show action (one mating and one feeding). From 130 mammal FPs only five are eating and nine other show some non-static activity. Oppose Although I completely understand the concerns regarding the bias towards static images that were expressed above, this image is not good enough, I'm afraid. Technically, the light is harsh and the lizard does not appear very sharp. On the EV side, the fact that there is nothing in the picture to provide a sense of scale (the plants and the rocks are too far in the background to be of any use and neither the carcass nor the lizard appear whole) makes the viewer think that this is a lizard of ordinary size, while the Komodo dragon is a rather huge animal (or are we dealing with a juvenile lizard?). The fact that the lizard is eating is the only thing on the plus side, which is not enough for an FP. --Ebertakis (talk) 22:21, 10 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
