Nominator(s): -- Aunva6talk - contribs 05:06, 4 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

the article covers the software distribution platform called Steam. I feel that this article has had significant improvements since the GAN, and meets the cireteria for Featured article. -- Aunva6talk - contribs 05:06, 4 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, I didn't know this was getting nominated for FA status- what a surprise! Okay, since I'm one of the page's biggest contributors, I suppose I could help with getting this underway. I'm now tagging the other biggest contributors, including Ferret, Masem and Vaypertrail, so they can chime in, as well. DARTHBOTTO talkcont 01:03, 6 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment - The amount of fair-use images is a little high. The graph, in particular, could be remade in a free form using the original data. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 11:28, 6 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
    • The graph definitely can be remade, I can't disagree there. There's only 3 other non-frees otherwise: the logo, a screenshot, and the 3-panel "1984"-ad tribute (which was distributed that way so that's only 1 copy-taking, not 3). I won't NFC-review the article I'm involved with but pretty confident those three are well within NFC allowances. --MASEM (t) 13:08, 6 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
      • The screenshot and logo are more or less givens, as they clearly pass the NFCC. We'd have to examine the screenshot series to check NFCC#8 (I'm not too sure it meets the criteria right now, but it might with a bit more context). — Crisco 1492 (talk) 13:57, 6 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
        • Well, I put that in there way back myself, so I'm pretty confident that the context is appropriate (the use of ads homaging famous Mac ads to announce STeam + various games for Mac on its release is the subject of discussion), but again, that's why I'm not doing the image review on this article :) --MASEM (t) 14:43, 6 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Okay, here's an image review for y'all.
  • File:Steam Store.png - Needs to be downsampled. WP:IMAGERES recommends a maximum of 100,000 pixels total, so I'd downsample this to 300px wide.
not sure how to do this myself... -- Aunva6talk - contribs 15:38, 7 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • File:Steam logo.svg - On Commons under a claim that it is PD-simple, though trademarked. I agree with the assessment (monochrome, simple shapes, only one word)
  • File:Steam mac 1984 homage.jpg - Although this advertisement is mentioned in-text, I don't quite see how it meets WP:NFCC#8, particularly the requirement that the lack of media would be detrimental to a reader's understanding. There is no discussion of the visual aspects of the advertisements, nor is there discussion of anything that would require visuals to illustrate. The only text referring to this image is "Valve developed a full video homage to Apple's 1984 Macintosh commercial to announce the availability of Half-Life 2 and its episodes on the service; some concept images for the video had previously been used to tease the Mac Steam client," which is already perfectly clear.
probably correct. i'll remove it. -- Aunva6talk - contribs 15:08, 7 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • If you're hurting for images, consider, say, images of platforms which support Steam (PS3) or the logo for Valve (File:Valve logo.svg). These are free and illustrative. Something of the development crew would also be nice. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 01:04, 7 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose and suggest immediate withdrawal, nominator has added no content to this article (apart from a few sources) and has gained no support on the talk page before nominating. There is already plenty of outstandings tasks for improvement on the article talk page and previous GA nomination. However I thank Crisco 1492 for their input, and Baffle gab1978 for their copyediting.--Vaypertrail (talk) 11:20, 7 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
which fetured article criterion are not met, which could not easily be reached? -- Aunva6talk - contribs 15:35, 7 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Did you see this rule at the top of the FAC page and follow the instruction? " Nominators who are not significant contributors to the article should consult regular editors of the article prior to a nomination." Graham Colm (talk) 16:58, 7 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I would have to agree (as a major contributor) that I was not approached, and I probably wouldn't have sent this to FAC just yet, if only there's a few changes on the horizon for Steam that I'd rather see in place first before we FAC it. --MASEM (t) 17:05, 7 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I thought my post on the talk page was sufficient, but perhaps it wasn't, or I misinterpreted the consensus. -- Aunva6talk - contribs 17:19, 7 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
