Hi, the links were added very rapidly so I reverted all assuming linkspam. However, now I see that the addition was in good faith. I'm not in the biology field but if the links are indeed useful I don't have anything against their addition. –Capricorn42 (talk) 10:35, 16 January 2009 (UTC)
- Just to add to this, the academic database does seem to be a legitimate one for virus articles. We have a real problem here on Wikipedia with "link spam," so there's a tendency when we see a new account posting links from the same web site to many pages to assume it is simple self-promotion. It seems likely that is not the case here and certainly you don't have to worry about being blocked.
- Still, you might want to proceed a bit more cautiously and ask about this first with someone who knows more about the topic and the way we cover it. Believe it or not there is a WikiProject Virus which works to "improve and organize articles about biological viruses on Wikipedia." If you check out that page you'll find some info and a list of users who participate in it. You might write a note to one of them or ask a question about your links on the project talk page. I'm sure someone can let you know what the best practice is as far as the kind of links you want to add. - Thank you. I saw that there is a WikiProject Virus, I know personnaly many people involved, and am willing to participate in that project.It is true that I am not familiar with wikipedia practice, but I am a little bit disappointed to see that I spent a lot of time adding links and updating taxonomy, and all this work is lost. I actually noticed that something was wrong only when I went back to a page and saw that what I did was deleted.viralzone

- (edit conflicting with Capricorn here, but basically saying the same thing) I can see why that would be frustrating, and it was jumping the gun to delete all of those links. It should be relatively easy for you to undo the undoing of your edits so to speak, assuming folks at the WikiProject are okay with that. All of your contributions are here and the changes you made are not really lost. For example here is the full history of the article Guttavirus and you can see where your edit is and where it was changed. If you were to simply "undo" the edit by Capricorn42 then your link would be back again, and you could do this for all the articles in question. But please just run it by the WikiProject first to make sure such links are appropriate. I'm sure you'll get a quick answer.

- Also when making a comment on a talk page like this one you can/should "sign" your comment at the end by clicking on the signature button at the top of the edit box. When you do that two dashes and four tildes will appear. Thank you for all your precisions, everything appears on a better light to me now. I understand Wikipedia needs to be protected against spam. I will certainly make a new account with my real name, as did Elliot (ELLIOTL_UAB) so people will know who I am, and start a discussion with the participants of the virus project.
