Deletion of LGBT Flag image

Even though you've been on Wikipedia for 3 years, your Commons account still is considered "new" and therefore you can't do some certain things that users who've been there for 4 days or more can do. I remember being confused when I first started editing over there as well and I found I couldn't even edit my own uploads. I imagine this might be the cause of the problems you had deleting your flag image, and I saw this and decided to fix the deletion nomination. It should go smoothly from here. The urgent need for expansion and the needed wikification aren't immediately obvious- it's already quite well wikified, anything else that needs doing can just be done, there's no need for the tag. Also, the expansion notice seems to be somewhat redundant to the stub notice. "Tag and run" shouldn't be used for quiet little articles that are standing well on their own- the only real issue with this article is that it is a BLP that is unreferenced. Continued vandalism on Call of Duty

Heya, i still see vandalism on cod page and it has become more frequent and frequent happening more than once in a day. Now I'm new to wikipedia so i was going to ask how a page qualifies for semi-protection? Maybe we should move CoD to semi protect? with utmost respect --Raijithedarkspear (talk) 09:31, 6 March 2009 (UTC)

Meetup NYC

Hi Jordan

On Wikipedia talk:Meetup/NYC you indicated that you couldn't make the next NYC Wiki meeting unless it was after the 27th. I suggested the 29th partially to give you, and anyone else, an increased opportunity to attend. It would be awesome if you could make it on the 29th. Thanks. — Becksguy (talk) 08:43, 8 March 2009 (UTC)

That date would be much better i just have to figuer out if im gonna be able to catch a train down and maybe have someone go with me sience i never been to one and im very shy and skeptical about meeting ppl who i dont know, espcially online. What dp we exactly do at this kinds of meetups?

Re:Admin coaching

Hi, Staffwaterboy. Right now I do not have time to coach you. I'm really busy in real life and I am coaching four other users with two in line for spots when I open up. Really, I'm not sure whether admin coaching would be that beneficial to yourself. Right now I would suggest reading the titles contained at WP:ARL and moving from there. RE: Protection

You can request to get some media "blacklisted" on WP:BADIMAGES which means that they could only be used on certain pages, but that's usually only used for "potentially offensive" images. -Royalguard11(T) 04:01, 13 March 2009 (UTC)

DYK

Did You Know is only for new or recently expanded articles; also, it is only for whole articles, not article sections. As far as I can tell, you have not ever edited at least one of the three articles you just nominated, and all of them are not new articles. You can take a look at the DYK rules for more information. Thank you, rʨanaɢ talk/contribs 17:35, 17 March 2009 (UTC)

You are welcome to nominate articles you haven't written yourself (in fact, some of our best contributors, like Hassocks5489 and Cbl62, focus almost exclusively on digging up good new articles and nominating them), but you should list yourself as "nominator" (nominator=Staffwaterboy) and list the real article author (the person who either created it, or expanded it fivefold) as "author" (author=_____). rʨanaɢ talk/contribs 17:40, 17 March 2009 (UTC)
I'm sorry, I'm not sure what you mean...all the articles of yours that I checked were neither new nor 5x expanded. There's more information on the article newness rule at Wikipedia:Did you know/Article and Wikipedia:Did you know/New article. If you did nominate any articles that you think were new or expanded, could you please give me links to each of those articles so I can check? rʨanaɢ talk/contribs 20:59, 17 March 2009 (UTC)
Like I said, those articles were not created or expanded fivefold within the last couple days. Coming Out hasn't even been edited in a week; St. Patrick's day has been edited but has only been expanded from about 24,000 characters to 27,000 characters, which is no real expansion at all (for a 24,000-character article to be on DYK it would have to be expanded to 120,000 characters, which will never happen). It doesn't matter who you give credit to, because the articles are simply not eligible for DYK, which is only for new material. Please see the links I posted above. rʨanaɢ talk/contribs 21:08, 17 March 2009 (UTC)

Dear Staffwaterboy,
what I was doing was adding constructive information about my own town,if two schools can be mentioned
then why not an organisation that promotes peace and harmoney. God knows after thirty years of violence in
northern Ireland we need all the peace we can get.

So far the only people that have a problem with this is a German and someone from New York.Since it is clear

that neither wants contributions from someone who was born and worked all thier lives in this town then I will
not bother to ever make any contributions again.

PS. all you had to do was give guidence and ask me to move it to a more appropriate place.simply removing edits is not only rude and an abuse of power , but also the fastest way to loose contributors. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 62.40.54.207 (talk) 19:18, 18 March 2009 (UTC)

Hello How are you i believe you are referring to [1] which seems mot to be constructive, especially adding the context were you did and also adding a external link directly also,If you feel that i am abusing my powers you can contact one of the admins sysops on this situation and bring your concerns to them i do applogize if you do perceive it that way and honstly i am not here to stop possibly good contributions here on wikipedia i am very wleocme to them as long as they meet wikipedia guidelines. Please take a look here if you like to see further what im talkin g about Wikipedia:Five_pillars and Wikipedia:Etiquette.Again i do applogize if you percive it that way,We hope to keep contributions coming from great editors/ people.Ps i do take offense to what you said above there is nothing personal about it..

Hi - under the name Galorr you have recently reverted a tag I add. This was to show that a substantial yet rather vague claim had been made. Either the claim needs appropriate citations or some re-wording is needed. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 210.54.238.178 (talk) 05:34, 20 March 2009 (UTC)

In the afternoon, we will hold a session dedicated to meta:Wikimedia New York City activities, sign official incorporation papers for the chapter, review recent projects like Wikipedia Loves Art and upcoming projects like Wikipedia at the Library, and hold salon-style group discussions on Wikipedia and the other Wikimedia projects (see the January meeting's minutes).

In the evening, we'll share dinner and chat at a local restaurant, and generally enjoy ourselves and kick back.

Orphaned non-free media (File:Hear sirens 001.ogg)

Thanks for uploading File:Hear sirens 001.ogg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 05:20, 22 March 2009 (UTC)

Lusikkahaarukka edit/revert

Hello

I did some spelling corrections on the article Lusikka-haarukka some minutes ago. When I noticed I missed one more error, I found out that you reverted the edits I had made. Let me ask you a question relating to the reason why I did edits to the article: Are you, sir, Finnish? If you are, then you're yet another one of my countrymen who fails at compound nouns. If you are not, then it is understandable we have some apparent problems in communication. The compound noun "lusikka-haarukka" is not grammatically correct in Finnish. In compound nouns the last letter of the first word has to be the same as the first letter of the second word in order for the compound to have a hyphen. An example being "ala-aste," meaning primary school: If it were "alaaste," the word wouldn't necessarily mean anything; If it were "ala aste," the two words would just mean "low" and "grade/level."

And so, if there is any more ambiguity on the subject, please let me know.

P.S. I'm a reservist NCO in the FDF, so I know exactly what a lusikkahaarukka is and what one can do with it.

Welcoming Users

Hi. You recently welcomed a user, here who then went on to vandalise a page four times. I'm not having a go at you, but do you not think it might be wiser to see what they intend to do on Wikipedia, by checking their contributions first, before welcoming? Giving a warm welcome to a vandal doesn't really help Wikipedia! Thanks. Oliver Fury, Esq. message • contributions 23:56, 22 March 2009 (UTC)

I think the main things you should work on are those posed in your editor review. Work some more on administrative tasks (CSD, XFDs) and try your hand at some article writing if you can. RFA !voters are looking a lot at a more well-rounded user these days, and I suggest you start to shift your activities to that end. bibliomaniac15 00:59, 23 March 2009 (UTC)

welcome to ARS

Hi, Vanished User jdksfajlasd/Archives/2009/2009, welcome to the Article Rescue Squadron!
Here to help articles tagged for rescue!

We are a growing community of Wikipedia editors dedicated to identifying and rescuing articles that have been tagged for deletion. Every day hundreds of articles are deleted, many rightfully so. But many concern notable subjects and are poorly written, ergo fixable and should not be deleted. We try to help these articles quickly improve and address the concerns of why they are proposed for deletion. This covers a lot of ground and your help is appreciated!

If you have any questions, feel free to ask on the talk page, and we will be happy to help you.

And once again - Welcome!

As noted under you're comment at my talk page, it's not uncommon for ISPs to not send a human response; large and midsize ISPs receive thousands if not millions of complaints every day, and they usually only send human replies in unusual cases. PCHS-NJROTC (Messages) 12:09, 24 March 2009 (UTC)
