Blatant Advertising[edit]

Hello Vacuum Cleaner, I thought I'd uninvitedly drop my two cents on blatant advertising. WP:SPAM seems to imply that "baltant advertisements" fail WP:NPOV, and so an article that doesn't make clear the notability of the product, but also doesn't praise the product, is probably not blatant advertising. And using this term hurts your case, I believe, as in my experience some Wikipedians have this wierd idea that if the nomination reason has a flaw then the article should be kept. Anyway, happy cleaning. Someguy1221 08:53, 17 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the advice.. You seem to be right so far (unfortunatelly). But, considering an article reading how good a text editor is, followed by a link to the homepage, well in my own POV, it is just asking for click me. Furthermore, articles with several links to the homepage (download, manual, faq, forum, etc.) seem to me a page rank and SEO attempts. Vacuum Cleaner 01 09:00, 17 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Quite possible. But you might be interested to know that links on Wikipedia have no effect on page rank. Not that no one is attempting it, just that it's futile. Someguy1221 09:02, 17 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
They don't count to Google, but they still count to Yahoo and MSN, afaik. Vacuum Cleaner 01 09:11, 17 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
And as far as whether products can be speedied, once upon a time there was a CSD criterion for products, but consensus became that products are inherently not speediable, so no luck there. Someguy1221 09:04, 17 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, thanks for an update. To be honest, it is not my goal to delete all articles I stumble upon. I believe that AfD brings two things: consensus from third parties and attempts from interested ones to establish sources and relevance. When I fail to google notability myself, I ask for AfD. There is no need to list every text editor out there. Even if it shall be my favourite one. Vacuum Cleaner 01 09:11, 17 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
