Caja Rural Editorial Discussion[edit]

I am new to editing Wikipedia articles, so I am not sure about the accepted way to discuss changes with other editors. So, apologies if inclusion on your Talk page is not appropriate. I did address this in the "Talk" section of the article itself, and inserted a hidden tag in the article text pointing to that, but not sure if these would be conspicuous if you are watching a large number of pages.

The issue was that my inclusion on 21 January 2013 of a list of co-sponsors and descriptions was deleted, with the brief explanation as its being unencyclopedic. I thought that my inclusion of this information would establish with the reader the team's credentials as a credible newcomer and also as an entrenched Basque regional player. As it stands now the Sponsor section has only one sentence that strikes me more as a 'factoid' than truly relevant and pertaining more to the brand of bike than to the team.

Was the objection that there were links to commercial websites? I would be happy to reinstate the information but omit those links if so. The links were only added in case a reader sought additional information on companies that were not covered by Wikipedia articles.

If the objection was that the section's detail is out of balance with the rest of the article, I think that is a fair observation; but as is probably evident, I have taken a interest in this article and it is work in progress. So, I would hope to expand the other information as I compile it.

Welcome to Wikipedia. Sorry I missed your discussion at Talk:Caja Rural. The issue I had was that it didn't seem worthy of the article, I'm not sure if having a section listing all their current sponsors is needed. I have removed to entire section for now. Maybe take a look at Team Sky#Sponsorship to see the style that is acceptable. BaldBoris 16:52, 23 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
OK. Thanks. I see that the Team Sky#Sponsorship section is more prose than a bullet listing. I will try to fix up and reinsert the section in this style. Transonic Crayon (talk) 17:05, 23 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Section now rewritten and reintroduced, modelled after the Team Sky#Sponsorship style. Transonic Crayon (talk) 18:31, 7 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Caja Rural[edit]

Very helpful edits on the article and I learned from you how to do repeated references too, thank you. I will leave it to you to change the grammatical tense back on Friday :-) [We and their other 2 English speaking fans will probably be the only ones ever to notice.] What was the thinking behind eliminating the Caja Rural–Orbea and Kaiku links? I had included them originally so that ancillary information on those teams could be included in Wikipedia without cluttering the main Caja Rural article. My rationale for including these prior names at all, by the way, is that (i) from speaking to those who follow Spanish and Basque Country cycling and from the tone of some of the relevant articles I have read, it seems clear that Caja Rural is not generally considered to be a 2010 start-up, and (ii) readers doing additional searching will find references such as "Kaiku-Caja Rural" in news prior to 2010 and even rider's team affiliations referring simply to "Caja Rural" in the 1980s (e.g. Marino Lejarreta). Transonic Crayon (talk) 13:40, 20 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Basically, what it was to do was to remove links from the team names; just uniform across all teams' team name iterations over the years. The links can remain in the body of the text, but usually avoid them in the infoboxes. That's all. Craig(talk) 19:16, 20 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
OK, I understand the rationale now, thanks. Transonic Crayon (talk) 19:47, 20 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free media (File:Caja Rural 2013 Team Jersey.jpg)[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Caja Rural 2013 Team Jersey.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media). This file has the wrong tag and I do not know how to delete it myself, so I am happy for it to be automatically or manually deleted by someone else. A copy exists that is correctly tagged. Transonic Crayon (talk) 10:51, 15 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Caja Rural Major edits page[edit]

Firstly, thanks for drawing my attention to those results. I'm not sure whether there is a general consensus on only listing first places and classification wins, but it seems to be the "accepted thing". Briefly looking at other Pro-continental team articles such as; RusVelo, Team NetApp-Endura and Champion System, you can see that only wins are listed. It's something that I've never questioned before, but my best guess is that it's mainly to keep the palmares clutter free. If you look at point 5 here Rider palmares info then you can see the template and style guide for an individual riders achievements - which are in use today on the vast majority of articles. I imagine that this style was adopted to maintain similarity between the rider palamres and that of a team XyZAn (talk) 15:26, 15 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Replaceable fair use File:Team Caja Rural 2013 Jersey.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Team Caja Rural 2013 Jersey.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that this media item is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails the first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media item could be found or created that provides substantially the same information or which could be adequately covered with text alone. If you believe this media item is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the file description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the file discussion page, write the reason why this media item is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Stefan2 (talk) 22:36, 16 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Although your contention is that an item of freely licensed media could be found or created that provides substantially the same information as the illustrated subject, no example or argument is given for this position. This image is a copyrighted image of a copyrighted team jersey imprinted with trademark logo insignias. This image was derived from one used by the team's own website, and so should not be in danger of devaluing or demeaning the underlying copyrighted garment. I am unaware of any free equivalent image. A freely available photograph taken of the jersey on display in public, for example, would be very unlikely to display all of the sponsors' logos and the garment in full, and so would not be an adequate replacement or a fair depiction of the underlying copyrighted work. The resolution of this image is lower than the image available from the team's website directly, which is already at the decision of the copyright holder placed at risk of wrongful use, and this uploaded image's resolution would clearly be inadequate to produce a merchantable copy of the underlying copyrighted garment thereby threatening the copyright holder's opportunity for commercial exploitation of the jersey through licensed sales or otherwise.
