Please help

@Toddy1 it seems there is some issue with India at the 2022 Asian Games article. The sections in the article are open by default and it is not closing. Do you also see the same or is there a problem with me only. Every other article is correct only this seems strange. Can you help? Shaan Sengupta^Talk 16:37, 6 October 2023 (UTC)

I view on a computer. I looked at Indonesia at the 2022 Asian Games and India at the 2022 Asian Games; everything seems normal to me in both articles.

You say The sections in the article are open by default and it is not closing. Are you saying that you expect readers to click on an expand button to view sections, as in the following example?

@Toddy1 I am using Android. Indonesia article looks all ok to me too. But the India at the 2022 Asian games article looks wrong. I mean to say that there are sections like Background, Competitors and many more. They are open by default. They dont have opoosite ⁠^ sign at the left. It is there in all other articles. Yes. No change. Everything is same. Collapsed default. Also the lead section of the article is below the Infobox. Seems there is an issue with this article in Android version. • Indonesia at the 2022 Asian Games functions as you expect.
• India at the 2022 Asian Games does not.

@Shaan Sengupta. Another possible explanation is that it is due to the use of Template:colbegin and Template:colend. These are used in India at the 2022 Asian Games to have tables side by side. Have a look at User:Toddy1/Sandbox 10a. I added these templates to it. Does it have the same problem as India at the 2022 Asian Games?

@Toddy1 Not starting a new section for this. I was editing Hero of the Luhansk People's Republic page. I tried adding Daily Mail article as an additional reference for Kadyrov as a recipient. But was given trigger warning for filter 869 adding deprecated source. I didn't know that it is not a reliable source. Now I understand that it is not a reliable source. This is the first (or maybe slightly one of the very first two) instances when I have unknowingly triggered (maybe abuse?) filter. Do not worry. The filters are intended to help you. And yes, I have tried using the Daily Mail as a source where appropriate, and eventually somebody removed the bits where the source was that newspaper. Regarding sources:

• Ukrainska Pravda is a Ukrainian newspaper. Ukrainian newspapers are likely to be the best sources for what happens in Ukraine - though they may be biased concerning anti-Ukrainian terrorist organisations like the Luhansk People's Republic.
• Tass is a biased source. It is undoubtedly reliable for things like the Russian government making awards - and the Luhansk People's Republic is more-or-less controlled by the Russian government. It is reliable for saying that the Russian government says X (preferably putting the statement as a quotation). It is completely untrustworthy for questions like who murdered X, or how many casualties there were, or whether X is a Nazi.
• Reuters is a good source.
• I am not familiar with antikor.com.ua, but a search shows that it is used as a source in 21 articles.[1]

The version of the Hero of the Donetsk People's Republic article of 16 February 2018^[2] is much richer in terms of both notable recipients and citations than the current version. Given that it is likely that the Russians murdered Alexander Zakharchenko, perhaps he is being airbrushed out of history by them.

There is a problem on Wikipedia of editors enforcing policies that they have never read. If you want to argue the case for sources some editors might have difficulty accepting, you need to read the policies carefully, check Wikipedia:Reliable sources/Perennial sources and possibly the archives of Wikipedia:Reliable sources/Noticeboard, and if you still want to use them, make the case on the article talk page about 12 hours before you made the edits that add those sources. Remember there is no use just quoting policy wikilinks, you have to explain what the policy says that is relevant and why that means that source X is OK or not-OK for the purpose you want to use it for.

It is really frustrating dealing with people who in reality have ____^{I am not allowed to say the word} biases, but lack the self-knowledge to realise that they have ____ biases. We all have biases; intelligent people understand what their biases are and because of this are able to compensate for their biases so they behave as though they have no biases.

I have been bruised enough by editing articles on the Ukraine, so I hardly ever do it any more. At one stage I had both Russian and Ukrainian nationalists abusing me - both accused me of being a member of the other group. One tactic that nationalists used was to post abusive messages in Ukrainian slang - admins told me that unless I provided a translation into English, they could take no action. The reason they used slang was to ensure that computer translation would not translate the messages - I imagine they tested the messages before posting them.-- Toddy1 (talk) 16:28, 18 October 2023 (UTC)

@Toddy1 Thanks for the explaination. Not only you but many others are experiencing this. I too get into an argument atleast once in a week or two. I try to tell solve the dispute. But there are some who think that they can't be wrong. When we debate them they would just in amidst of that server notices of disruptions and vandalism because they think so. Thatswhy I have now learnt to simply self-revert and back off. Because there is no point in giving your time there. Anways happy editing and thanks once again. If you look at month counts you will see that there are separate contribution gaps in 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, and 2020 caused by my walking away from conflicts on Wikipedia (the contribution gap in 2022 was caused by pressure of work).-- Toddy1 (talk) 19:23, 18 October 2023 (UTC)

Hello @Toddy1, I am not pinging them to hide it for now. Has Lionel Messi Lover here on his talk page admitted that Diamond Leveler is their sock account? Because they say that Sorry, I didn't knew the WP:SOCK policy and I will it as soon as possible. I ignored it then because DL was not active for months. But both the accounts are currently active. He also has clearly admitted that in the same disscussion that Settings gujrti is their other account, but this may be let gone since it is not registered on enwiki. Can you help me here. If these are sock then the case will be by the name of LML since they joined first. Also should we invite DaxServer and Kautilya3 since they too are involved. Add for their interest it is common. WP:SOCKLEGIT says Alternative accounts should always be identified as such on their user pages, unless where doing so would defeat the point of the account. Note "user pages" not "talk page".

• Chennai Super Kings Lover - this account has been renamed Lionel Messi Lover (this means that old signatures say Chennai Super Kings Lover but the contribution history says Lionel Messi Lover.^[5]) User:Chennai Super Kings Lover is a redirect to User:Lionel Messi Lover
• Lionel Messi Lover: Wikipedia contributions - Commons contributions - active on Wikipedia and Commons. User:Lionel Messi Lover does not declare alternative accounts.
• Diamond Leveler: Wikipedia contributions - Commons contributions - active on Wikipedia and Commons. User:Diamond Leveler does not declare alternative accounts.
• Settings gujrti: Commons contributions - active on Commons November 2022 to January 2023; never used on Wikipedia.

Interaction editor shows an overlap. The post of 13:32, 14 January 2023 (UTC) admits that the two accounts are operated by the same person, and that the use of the Diamond Leveler account on Wikipedia was an error. Their contribution history on Commons suggests that this could be a truthful explanation. But the error has occurred at least seven times. Need your help

Hi @Toddy1, hope you are doing well. Can you please tell me as to why am I getting Caught exception of type Wikimedia\Rdbms\DBQueryError when trying to edit. There was no problem few hours ago. But I don't know what happened now. Just to let you know I use Android mobile for editing. ShaanSengupta^Talk 09:01, 4 December 2023 (UTC)

This error has occurred in the past when they have made a mistake in changing part of the software. See results of a Google search on this error. I have never used Android. With computer browsers, you could try (1) delete the cache for all Wiki things, (2) close the browser, (3) reopen the browser. If you deleted the cache, you ought to have to log in again. This may fix it. If it does not, the best thing to do is to live with the error until it gets fixed.

I reported an error with interaction editor in mid-November; the problem had existed for several days before I reported it, and it got fixed less than a day after my report. So it is useful to report these things. I guess a lot of people reported their problems, and their problems had the same cause as my problem.

This is the documentation for the error.^[6] I am not sure if that is useful or not.

This is a page tracking incident reports about Wikimedia software problems. It says "no incidents reported in the last 14 days." That does not sound good - i.e. nobody is fixing this problem, because they do not know about it.

Hello, I have recently noticed that you have reverted my edit on Tata Group twice. I would like to elaborate on why I changed it from "Corporate group"

to "Private because below the Type, there is the Industry section that perfectly describes it as a "Conglomerate". Since groups can't be owned by any member, it is private. Thank you for understanding.

Other examples of "Private" used to describe groups:

• 2. Samsung Group

@Doug Weller: Far too soon. I think it would be better to encourage him/her to get three decent articles under his/her belt before they are unblocked - i.e. ones that would be B class if they had illustrations. I am not fussed about illustrations - if we demand illustrations, it pushes him/her into breaching copyright to get them, which is not a good idea. So far, he has done a "start" article.

You need to check the wikilinks

• In some places you use ''[[Measure for Measure]]'' and in others [[The Two Gentlemen of Verona|''The Two Gentlemen of Verona'']]. It would be better if the table were consistent. ''[[Measure for Measure]]'' is probably the better format.
• [[Athens, Ohio|Athens]] is the wrong wikilink - note how misleading the piping is - see WP:TRANSPARENCY. The link should be [[Athens]].
• Your table contains an excessive number of identical links. There are also a lot of unnecessary links creating a sea of blue. Please read MOS:OVERLINK. Just because something can be linked, does not mean that it should be linked.

If you are going to have a table instead of a list in three columns, why not make it sortable? When I want to look up how to format a sortable table I look at an article that has them, like de Havilland Sea Vixen. If you look at the sortable table in Demographics of Uttar Pradesh you can see that the final row is non-sortable. Sometimes sortable tables are a good idea, and sometimes not.

You have explained what you want done. But where it should go in the article? You have not explained why you think it should be done. Try to think through what advantages your table has, and what advantages the current list in three columns has.-- Toddy1 (talk) 07:20, 3 March 2024 (UTC)

A lesson then is that visual editor sometimes gets the links wrong, so you need to check them.

Where should I report

Hello, you know a user is vandalizing Economy of West Bengal repeatedly by changing figures without any source after multiple warnings. Now they even called me b@stard. Where should I report? Shubhrojeet (talk) 09:26, 10 April 2024 (UTC)

If you look at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/3RRArchive480#User:Sweety943 reported by User:Toddy1 (Result: Blocked 72 hours), you will see an example of how to report people for edit warring. Key issues:

• Someone needs to post an edit warring notice on the user's talk page.
  • The template for this can be found on Wikipedia:Template index/User talk namespace
  • If you look at User talk:Sweety943, you will see that I gave him one for the Economy of West Bengal at 15:31, 6 April 2024 (UTC), and one for Economy of Bangladesh at 07:02, 10 April 2024 (UTC).
• You need diffs. You can create these using the article history.
• It helps a lot if there is a discussion on the article talk page. I made sure that there was one for the Economy of West Bengal, and when he/she started making edits again on Economy of Bangladesh and Economy of West Bengal I made comments on both talk pages. His/her edits to the Economy of Bangladesh were good edits in the sense that his/her changes were supported by the citations.

If someone resumes edit warring on a page after a block, they do not get three reverts in a day - if you look at User talk:Sweety943 I asked him/her to self-revert at Economy of West Bengal and told him that if he/she reverts again on that page he may be blocked for it.

Please could you have a look at Special:Contributions/Sweety943 and check whether the edits they are making are supported by the sources.

His/her edits at User talk:Pickersgill-Cunliffe#Question from Sweety943 (06:13, 10 April 2024) asked how to do a citation. Evidently he/she did not know.

If you want to report his incivility, you could do so at WP:ANI. I considered doing it, but the chances are nothing would happen, so I did not bother. It has to be a lot worse than that to get action.-- Toddy1 (talk) 09:46, 10 April 2024 (UTC)

About your revertion of revision with citation

I am confused. You reverted my edit on Aisha. The revision was properly cited. The reference is not only peer reviewed, but a strong reference universally (Sahih Bukhari).

The reason for my revert was to get you to use the article talk page. (I also wrote a message on your talk page, but by the time I had completed writing it, you had already done what I was asking for, so I reverted the message I left on your talk page.)

Your edit was reverted yesterday by another editor. You reverted back today (there was no difference between your 13:48 13 April 2024 and your 07:41 14 April 2024 edits). Aisha's age on marriage is a contentious topic, and it is much better that you should use the talk page to explain your edit, than to wait a few hours for the other editor to see it and revert back.

Earlier today, the other editor left a message on an admin's talk page requesting assistance with respect of your edits - see User talk:Bishonen#Contentious edits of a user.

If you are having trouble with buttons not working, try another browser. The buttons may need you to accept cookies. Last week, a credit card website I use worked in Safari but not in Firefox. Help on formatting

Hi. Can you educate me on 'subheadings'? I thought these subheadings were appropriate, but the change got deleted on grounds of 'no expansion required' yet a small paragraph has a subheading.

What is the requirement to have a subheading? When to add or remove subheadings?

Headings are useful to:

• Help the user find information in the article,
• Split up different topics, and
• Make it clear what is being discussed.

In the version of 16:48, 13 March 2024 (UTC), there are the following sections:

• The lead (1 short paragraph)
• Section 1, Early life (3 short paragraphs)
• Section 2, Battle of Khaybar (4 short paragraphs if you do not count Section 2.1)
• Section 2.1, Marriage to Muhammad (3 short paragraphs)
• Section 3, Legacy (3 short paragraphs)

This all seems logical. None of the sections are particularly large. On my computer screen the longest paragraph is 3 lines long. Section 2.1 is related to Section 2, so I can see why it is a subsection. I can see that some readers might want to jump from the lead to Section 2.1, so there is a good case for the subheading.

Suppose, you found sources that caused you to expand Section 1, so that it contained 14 paragraphs, most of which are 9 lines long on my computer - i.e. three times as long as the longest paragraph in the current article. In that case you would probably want to introduce some extra headings - they might be level 2 (headings), or they might be level 3 (subheadings), it depends on the content. The article would look a lop-sided if Section 1 were larger than the rest of the article; people would start saying either (a) that the 14-paragraph Section 1 should be trimmed, or (b) that it needed to be split up using headings.

The other editor left a useful edit summary in one of his/her edits: Removed the unnecessary subheadings. The content is not even that expansive. He/she could see the need for the "Marriage to Muhammad" (which is useful for ease of navigation, and because it is a different, but related topic). But he/she could not see the need for other subheadings in Section 2, because it is only four short paragraphs.
