Motorcycling Wikiproject[edit]

Welcome to the Motorcycling WikiProject. Hopefully you have a good time, start many new articles and can contribute lots to the existing ones as we need that. Cheers ww2censor (talk) 20:44, 10 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

See, to answer your earlier question, I never went away ;-) --TimTay (talk) 20:47, 10 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Taunton[edit]

Thanks for the book link - but I had already referenced it. I've tried to bring Taunton it into line with the guidelines for UK settlements - but I'm going to leave that one for now - so if you want to have a go at it feel free.— Rod talk 15:57, 19 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

centuries[edit]

Hi,

I am glad to see that you have delinked centuries.

I have a script that will delink centuries. If anyone is interested in using it, simply

  • 1. copy all the source text from User:Lightmouse/monobook.js/script.js to the bottom of User:TimTay/monobook.js
  • 2. clear your cache, (if you have Firefox: press Ctrl-Shift-R, if you have IE: press Ctrl-F5).
  • 3. Pick an article with units that need converting and click 'Edit this page' to put it into edit mode.
  • 4. Click the tab at the top right that says 'dates+units'.
  • 5. try it on about 10 articles and let me know how you get on

Any questions just ask. Lightmouse (talk) 11:04, 27 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

That's great, thanks. I'll take a look. --TimTay (talk) 11:51, 27 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Bedford High School (Leigh)[edit]

Hi TimTay,

I agree that Bedford High School should come under an established category of Wigan however I do not agree in that category being named "Schools in Wigan". Bedford High is about 8 miles away from Wigan and therefore can not be a School in Wigan. It is more correctly in the Metroplitan Borough of Wigan.

I know the school well, I went there! If you change the category, which isn't a bad idea, then you must change it for every school in the category, not just Bedford High. I saw what you did with Leigh Flash and moved Seven Sisters into the same category. So go ahead if you want to and edit every school. Don't forget to copy over the parent categories from the Category:Schools in Wigan page. --TimTay (talk) 08:41, 31 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, you have a fair point. I suppose it can stay in Wigan, lol. Cheers, Dave.

Naming of categories relating to the boroughs[edit]

Hi! I notice you have been moving categories for articles relating to Wigan. These changes have been discussed in the past and are controversial as they set a precedent for all other similar categories in the UK. In the first instance can I direct you to The Greater Manchester WikiProject where I have started a discussion on the talk page. Pit-yacker (talk) 18:53, 31 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Archive[edit]

sorry for that revert I rereverted it, didn't see you were archiving. Dureo (talk) 09:52, 3 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Bath Ales[edit]

Thanks for the work you've done on Bath Ales. I'd like to see this article come a long way. Llamabr (talk) 16:14, 5 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Beer is one of my favourite topics :-) I recently set up Cheddar Ales if you are interested and want to contribute. --TimTay (talk) 16:37, 5 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

My Comments[edit]

Why did you feel you could take it upon yourself to remove one of my comments from a talk page while aware that I was in dialogue with another editor about the validity of it.--Pypex (talk) 10:46, 8 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Talk pages are not place for general chit-chat. Your contribution doesn't belong there. The person who removed your contribution was right. --TimTay (talk) 10:48, 8 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

thank you![edit]

thank you very much for removing the copyright violating infoboxes. Cheers, Kingturtle (talk) 16:32, 25 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Geograph Images[edit]

Hi, thanks for the advice. I meant to mention on the Wigan talk page that I'd taken up your suggestion but didn't get round to it. I'll have a go at uploading any more I use to commons. Richerman (talk) 15:41, 29 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Stowey & Qunatocks[edit]

We had an edit conflict on Stowey Castle I don't think I removed anything you did but could you check? I'm doing the local villages as part of working on the Quantock Hills which I'd like to get up to GA - if you wanted to take a look & make any improvements that would be great.— Rod talk 10:10, 11 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thank Rod. No conflict with my edits. I'll take a look around at the articles. --TimTay (talk) 10:12, 11 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

ZAP Spam[edit]

Hi. I noticed you reverted some of the ZAP spam on Motorcycle, which the spammer has since reposted. I have opened up a complaint about this editor on Wikipedia:Conflict of interest/Noticeboard#Anonymous_User_66.182.15.218_Widely_Posting_Commerical_Links_and_Content. Any support you could give in this effort would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! Fbagatelleblack (talk) 18:52, 12 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Good result! --TimTay (talk) 20:22, 12 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Wigan[edit]

Hi TimTay, I was active on the Wigan articles sometime ago and have recently returned to Wiki. I am a resident of Wigan and see that you went to Bedford High. Just saying hi and hope to be working on the articles alongside you sometime soon. Man2 (talk)

Thanks! --TimTay (talk) 08:53, 18 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

re Fire, Moon, Stars Blast and Little Furry Kittens, etc.[edit]

Hi. Just to let you know that editors are allowed to remove warnings, etc. from their talkpages. It doesn't help them when an admin comes a-calling with a mind to a block, but that is their problem. If you report the above editor again, just mention in your report that they have removed previous warnings - so people know to look in the edit history. Otherwise, thanks for your continuing help in this and other matters. Cheers. LessHeard vanU (talk) 20:58, 20 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Motorcycle Wiki[edit]

Hey TimTay, Here's an opportunity to put your expertise to work in the area of motorcycles. Cycle Chaos is a Wiki-styled web site that needs help from people who love bikes and can contribute more information and even manufacturers. There's virtually no problems with administrators and it seems free to edit without trouble. As a Brit, you can offer some content that may be lacking. My user page is: Cycle Chaos, Noles1984 Cheers. Noles1984 (talk) 15:18, 23 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. I'll take a look. --TimTay (talk) 15:24, 23 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Wigan[edit]

Hi TimTay. The user 'Colin' has been around Wiki for some time, each time appearing under different names, the last being 'JemmyH'. He claims to live in the AShton in Makerfield area and has been banned and suspended on several occasions for vandalism. His claims regarding the population of Wigan have shown to be false on seveal occasions with verifiable sources and majority consensus. I would like to refer you to the user Jza84 who is familiar with this situation. Thanks Man2 (talk) 10:53, 5 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the heads up. I'll be sure to ignore his rants/ramblings in the future ;) --TimTay (talk) 14:11, 5 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Tim, rather than listen to the chunderings of someone who is clearly biased, please make your own observations regarding my comments. I can assure you, my 'rants and ramblings' are factually accurate 'rants and ramblings. I have, in the past, given links to factual information regarding Wigan and ALL have been edited away by the 'Wigan know it alls'. Do a bit of research yourself and see what YOU think about the Wigan (town) article. I do note that you are from the Leigh area? I also note that you have editted the Wigan article to omit Georgie Fame because he was from Leigh. You have editted Billy boston from Wigan because he's from Cardiff. Frank Richards is from Pemberton, not Wigan, and you've omitted him too! You have omitted all from Billinge from the Wigan article as well, and rightly so, Billinge is not Wigan. I only wish that others could get a grip on where the 'town' of Wigan actually starts and finishes. Colin.

PS ... The so-called 'vandalism', referred to by the previous editor, was merely removal of non-Wigan famous people and pointing out the errors and false statements in the Wigan and surrounding towns articles. Rather the same sort of thing you've done over the last few days! And, Tim, your re-edit of the Heinz comment is not yet complete. Heinz isn't in the town of Wigan, it's in Pemberton. It should be removed from Wigan completely and put into Pemberton and Wigan Metropolitan Borough!. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 80.193.161.89 (talk) 18:32, 6 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Plymouth references[edit]

Hi! Let's not get into a fight over the position of references – we both know they generally go after punctuation (if there is any), but in the case of this edit I think it's important to separate the two references because they verify different things. Do you not agree? See Wikipedia:Cite#Ref_tags_and_punctuation for clarification. I've not reverted pending your reply. Cheers, —SMALLJIM  19:21, 5 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Good point. Go ahead. --TimTay (talk) 21:07, 5 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

metric & imperial on Quantock Hills[edit]

Hi, Thanks for sorting out abbr=on etc on Quantock Hills. I was just working on these when you saved your edit. The GA reviewers comment was about about consistency of imperial & metric - in some places one is first & in others they are in a different order. My preference is imp(metric) which is how it starts but there are places (particularly acres & hectares) where this is reversed. What is your preference & could you check the consistency of these for me?— Rod talk 12:24, 11 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Agree fully. I'm an imperialist! I have a bit of time this afternoon so I'll have a go at it. --TimTay (talk) 12:32, 11 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Help with referencing facts[edit]

I am responsible for Flat Holm Island and have set the team the challenge of getting to featured article status. We have a wealth of information on every aspect of Flat Holm and the Wardens have now got a broadband link so it will help pass the lonely hours between school visits. My question is how should we reference facts which come from our own leaflets and reports etc? I've looked at the guidance and various examples but still not sure. Also any advice on the long haul to the prized star staus would be welcomed

Tony (talk) 15:58, 11 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Referencing emails[edit]

I've re-written the stub that was Triumph_Rocket_III and added an overview of the prototyping project which I feel is very relevant at its such a radical bike. The designer John Mockett has checked it for me and sent the following email "I didn't see the article before but I appreciate any changes you've made because it reads very well to me". Although this is prob the best validation you can get I can't find anything about how I should ref it. Should I just put a note in the section? I'd appreciate your advice. Tony (talk) 04:57, 14 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

In truth I don't have a clue! Let me take a look at the article. --TimTay (talk) 05:27, 14 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

List of Schools' title page names[edit]

Sorry TimTay, I was trying to keep the article titles short by not including "Metropolitan Borough of X" or "City of X". But agree with you the former titles were misleading/confusing and so don't have any problem with them being renamed. Cayden (talk) 20:03, 14 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. Good job on splitting up the page. Definitely the right thing to do (WP:BOLD!!) Feel free to drop the "Metropolitan Borough" bit from the table text to make the table smaller and neater if you wish. --TimTay (talk) 20:06, 14 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Ooops! Didn't know this was under discussion! I've raised this at WT:GM. --Jza84 |  Talk  20:10, 14 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I suggest that if the longer titles are to be used, then List of schools in Salford should be changed to List of schools in the City of Salford. There's a different between the settlement of Salford and the local government district of the City of Salford which includes Eccles, Little Hulton, Irlam, etc. But then it may be best to discuss this at WP:GM first. Cayden (talk) 20:23, 14 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Fully agree. I'll make the change. Thanks for pointing it out. --TimTay (talk) 20:25, 14 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
b.t.w. Not sure what to do about Manchester. Should that also be City of Manchester? I suspect not as the City of Manchester article redirects to Manchester itself. --TimTay (talk) 20:29, 14 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
The City of Manchester automatically redirects to the Manchester page, so it doesn't matter too much whether "City of" or not in the title. I think the "List of schools in X" titles should be changed a little with "the" between "in" and "Metropolitan". The titles don't sound correct. e.g: change List of schools in Metropolitan Borough of WiganList of schools in the Metropolitan Borough of Wigan. Cayden (talk) 20:43, 14 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Agreed.--TimTay (talk) 20:44, 14 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
