Disambiguation link notification for August 30[edit]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Henry Bouquet, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Fort Pitt (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Cambrai[edit]

I thought that your last edit added something to the page and that your previous ones were well-intended, I assume you moved UK up the list on grounds of the larger contribution, which was something I wondered about when putting them in. ;O) If you're not sure stick a comment on the talk page, that usually alerts people who watch the page that you're serious. First Ypres[edit]

Hi there.

Clearly you know a bit about the Spanish Wars! But I must insist that you have misunderstood the point. The time-frame is not in itself important but when it goes hand-in-hand with fighting an industrialised power like Germany, in the modern age, with modern weapons, it just doesn't compare with the Succession(s). The point is the British army was not ready to, nor had any history of fighting long industrial wars. In other words it was not ready to fight this kind of war. The Germans, Russians and French had experience of mass casualties in the mid-to late 19th Century which were more like the FWW than the Spanish conflicts.

The text reads (I have edited it):
The British Army would be the smallest field force of the four combatants at the First Battle of Ypres.[3] The British foresaw their effort much the same as in the Napoleonic Wars; maintaining dominance of the seas and providing financial support and a small highly trained army to supplement their Continental allies. Although equipped to fulfill the role set for it, the British Army found itself fighting an industrialised type of war that British Armies had never fought and had never prepared to fight against a formidable opponent such as Germany

I hope this makes things a little clearer (the sources reflect the text). Dapi89 (talk) 16:34, 17 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

British Army during the American War of Independence[edit]

Fantastic work with the British Army during the American War of Independence article - it's really impressive. If you were to add additional references so that all the text is supported by at least one citation it would be worth nominating this for good article status. Keep up the great work! Nick-D (talk) 11:49, 24 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

cheers. I'll try and improve it and add some more sources over next couple of days. Thecitizen1 (talk) 18:52, 24 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hanover 1805[edit]

In September 2013 you added a small section to British Army during the Napoleonic Wars called Hanover 1805 you did not cite any sources for this addition. Did you copy it from another Wikipedia article or did you obtain the information from a third party source? -- PBS (talk) 13:45, 24 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Question about Charles Lightoller[edit]

In this edit, you state that Lightoller was decorated for an engagement with the German airship L31, citing the London Gazette. The London Gazette entry [1] however only says that Lightoller was awarded the DSC for service in the Dover Patrol between 1 July and 31 December 1916. It does not mention anything about German airships, or for that matter, what ship he was serving in. Where did the bit about the battle with L31 come from?Nigel Ish (talk) 18:14, 4 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I did not add that to this article, it was already there. Numerous sources credit Lightoller with engaging or "destroying" L31. In his own words in "Titanic and other ships" Lightoller states that he engaged the airship in the Thames estuary and claims that he stopped it from reaching London by hitting it's "tail" with tracer rounds which forced it to turn around. Lightoller says he was awarded a DSC for this engagement which makes sense as DSCs are generally awarded for specific actions. Furthermore Lightoller himself says he was "promoted" to the Dover patrol because of his engagement with L31.

Disambiguation link notification for April 30[edit]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited English language, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Lowland Scots (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)
