May 2017[edit]

Information icon Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. We welcome and appreciate your contributions, but it appears you have written or added to an article about yourself. Creating an autobiography is strongly discouraged – see our guideline on writing autobiographies. If you create such an article, it may be deleted. If what you have done in life is genuinely notable and can be verified according to our policy for articles about living people, someone else will probably create an article about you sooner or later (see Wikipedians with articles). If you wish to add to an existing article about yourself, please propose the changes on its talk page. Please understand that this is an encyclopedia and not a personal web space or social networking site. If your article has already been deleted, please see: Why was my page deleted?, and if you feel the deletion was an error, please discuss it with the deleting administrator. Thank you. May 2018[edit]

Information icon Hello, StevenSwadling. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about in the article Draft:Steven Swadling , you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a COI may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

  • avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, company, organization or competitors;
  • propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (see the {{request edit}} template);
  • disclose your COI when discussing affected articles (see WP:DISCLOSE);
  • avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see WP:SPAM);
  • do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.

In addition, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation (see WP:PAID).

Also please note that editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. Meters (talk) 05:28, 10 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

From your edit here [1] this account appears to be a WP:PAID account, and in violation of policy as a shared account. It is also not appropriate to canvas for editors to make your edits for you for pay. Meters (talk) 05:30, 10 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
If you do not acknowledge this message and address the issues I will punt this to the appropriate board, probably ANI since this is a mixture of username, conflict of interest, and undisclosed paid editing,. Meters (talk) 02:29, 11 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I am a little confused and please excuse my ignorance. I have received emails that I have somehow violated Wikipedia policies. In no shape way or form am I or my PR firm paying anyone to create a Wikipedia page for me. I did receive a request via social media from someone asking if they could create one for me and that was last year. I have to admit that I have periodically out of curiosity checked in to look at what had been created and did, in fact, correct an error but didn't realize that was against your policies and I am sincerely apologetic for that and ignorant to the rule. I fully understand the reasoning behind the policies now that I have read a few things prior to writing this reply and it makes absolute sense that you wouldn't want anything influenced - To be honest, I feel embarrassed I didn't think about that. I will completely back away from contemplating about making revisions or correcting errors and just hope people write factual things. Again, I apologize but still a little confused as to why the sudden string of emails. I apologize for maybe not formatting this message correctly. StevenSwadling (talk) 07:11, 11 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

You do know that we can still see deleted posts, right? In the edit I previously linked to [2] you said We had hired someone to develop a Wikipedia page for Producer/Actor Steven Michael Swadling... His PR firm has been quite frustrated with us... we are willing to pay someone to clean this up so it goes live. Jon According to that you are someone named Jon who hired someone to write the page at the request of Swadling's PR firm. Now you would have us believe that you are actually Swadling and there has been no paid editing. So which is it? Meters (talk) 17:38, 11 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I am officially Steven Swadling - You can contact my manager through IMDB for verification and direct communication if you wish or if you would like to link me to a private space for communications, that is fine too. John is the gentleman that requested to build this page. Again, I am completely ignorant of any policies regarding this matter that I have already apologized for. I realize that ignorance is not an excuse. Initially, I had forwarded him to my PR firm for information. John had contacted through private message on social media and asked for verification of some history. I had my son correspond with him and I will have to check with him later today to see what was said and done since then. Again, I apologize. I am not trying to be difficult here, just trying to understand and accommodate. If something has been done incorrectly, I certainly want to make sure it's fixed. I can assure you that nothing dishonest or false is being attempted here. — Preceding unsigned comment added by StevenSwadling (talkcontribs) 18:56, May 11, 2018 (UTC)

So, John (or Jon) was using this account yesterday, and today you are using it? Meters (talk) 22:30, 11 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I am still not entirely sure exactly what happened or got to the bottom of it but it appears my son was on my computer yesterday and did indeed write a message that he and the other gentleman had apparently discussed together. He said he deleted it right after he wrote because it wasn't coming from him. I am assuming this is what you are referring to? I have instructed that there be no more correspondence. Please note. My son was following my lead because I had asked him to take care of the request and answer any and all questions. Neither he nor I thought this was a problem as I answer questions for people all of the time. — Preceding unsigned comment added by StevenSwadling (talkcontribs) 02:35, May 12, 2018 (UTC)

Do I have this straight? Your son was using your account, wrote a post that someone else (Jon or John) asked him to add (a post that is evidence of egregious undisclosed WP:PAID editing), and signed the post with Jon's name. Since you say that your son was using your account without your knowledge this is now a compromised account. If you have given your son permission to use this account then it is a shared account. Editing an article about yourself (or a family member) is a conflict of interest. Meters (talk) 03:59, 12 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
And making an edit made for a paid editor must be disclosed. Meters (talk) 04:00, 12 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

As I already stated several times, no one has been paid from me or my representation or my son. Whatever was said in a post was not from myself or my son - I asked him to answer the questions that were being presented via private message - These questions were based on someone unrelated to us or known by us. If someone out of the blue from my social media asks me if it's ok for them to create a Wikipedia page for me and I say yes, I do not see that as a violation of anything. I did not write this myself. In fact, now that I have read it in detail it's exactly what is in articles and content that is already public knowledge. I allow my son to handle and post on my social media and handle a lot of my personal relations outside of my profession PR. So, if you are asking me if he has permission to use any account I own, then the answer is yes. I have asked why the question was posted in the first place and according to him, he was asked to post the question because the page was not getting approved. He said he thought better of it and deleted it because it wasn't from him. All he was doing was answering questions from a fan of a movie franchise I belong to that asked if he could create a page because I didn't apparently have one. If you would like me to reach to this gentleman to chime in, I will but to be honest with you I am already over it and need to move on to other things. As I have stated several times, I apologize for my son ignorance and what has happened. I certainly didn't expect to spend my afternoon being accused of things I do not understand or defending my son's actions. I understand you have policy's and I will certainly make sure those are kept moving forward now that this has been brought to light. — Preceding unsigned comment added by StevenSwadling (talkcontribs) 04:45, May 12, 2018 (UTC)

As I already pointed out, your account posted We had hired someone to develop a Wikipedia page for Producer/Actor Steven Michael Swadling. Here is the link (for the third time) where you posted that [3]. Clearly there is paid editing going on. Not allowed without full disclosure. Your are sharing your account with your son. Not allowed (see WP:NOSHARING) You are posting material provided by someone else. Not allowed without disclosing the fact. You have already been pointed WP:AUTOBIOGRAPHY, WP:COI, and WP:PAID I'm going to raise this at ANI so that the community can decide how to deal with this. Meters (talk) 04:17, 13 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I received an email from you asking for this to be acknowledged/addressed otherwise you would submit to a board/ANI and it was addressed several times. I do not even know what ANI is or means - I have personally been sincere with you and spent a great deal of time trying to get to the bottom of this and you have yet to offer a solution or explain what it is you would like me to do to fix this. If that means deleting my own account, I have absolutely no problem with that at this point. I wish now that I had never said yes to someone wanting to do a good thing. Like I said before, ignorance is not an excuse but I guess its a lesson learned.

Maybe you should reach out to him (John) and he can explain all of this. if that means deleting my own account, that is fine. — Preceding unsigned comment added by StevenSwadling (talkcontribs) 4:18, May 13, 2018 (UTC)

ANI is administrator's noticeboard/incidents at WP:ANI. It is for "reporting and discussing incidents on the English Wikipedia that require the intervention of administrators and experienced editors."
If you read the links I have provided to you you will see what you are supposed to have done. That fact that you are still denying that there has been PAID editing and that this had just been the work of a fan makes it difficult for me to WP:AGF. Your account posted clear evidence of more than one incident of paid editing. It does not matter if you personally made the payments to the editors or your publicity firm did. After all, you pay your publicity firm.
And exactly how am I supposed to "reach out" to John? I have no contact information for him, and I have no idea who he is. He could be your son, or your publicity agent, or one of the paid editors, or the supposed fan behind this, or someone else for all I know. And why would I do that in any case? Since your account made the edits, I am dealing with you. Meters (talk) 17:57, 13 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I have been cordial with you and I have tried to assist you but to say I am still denying something is alluding to me lying to you and that is now offending me. I figured you could reach out to him because I would assume whoever creates or makes changes to that page would leave a record. Obviously, I cannot answer for anyone else but why would they pay to create a page for me if I am not paying them to do it, it makes no sense at all. As for my PR firm, they certainly would not be wasting time with this, they only deal with media and events. If you are asking me to admit to paying someone, I am afraid I can not do that because then I would be lying.StevenSwadling (talk) 22:59, 13 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

All I can offer is that I'll delete the account under my name if that is what you wish to happen - I certainly don't want any issues if someone else decides to attempt to write a page on me. I'd rather stay completely out of the picture.StevenSwadling (talk) 23:17, 13 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
