Drummerless[edit]

The following quote was made by The Beatles' first manager, Allan Williams in the documentary The Compleat Beatles: "Now The Beatles were going through one of their drummerless periods. They had been playing at the Casbah Club run by a Mrs. Best, who had a son, Pete Best, who played drums. The guys introduced me to Pete and I said, give me a drum roll to see how good you are. And he played, not to cleverly but passable. I said OK, that's good enough, let's go to Hamburg." Steelbeard1 (talk) 16:14, 10 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Oxford Wikimania 2010 and Wikimedia UK v2.0 Notice[edit]

Hi,

As a regularly contributing UK Wikipedian, we were wondering if you wanted to contribute to the Oxford bid to host the 2010 Wikimania conference. Please see here for details of how to get involved, we need all the help we can get if we are to put in a compelling bid.

We are also in the process of forming a new UK Wikimedia chapter to replace the soon to be folded old one. If you are interested in helping shape our plans, showing your support or becoming a future member or board member, please head over to the Wikimedia UK v2.0 page and let us know. We plan on holding an election in the next month to find the initial board, who will oversee the process of founding the company and accepting membership applications. They will then call an AGM to formally elect a new board who after obtaining charitable status will start the fund raising, promotion and active support for the UK Wikimedian community for which the chapter is being founded.

You may also wish to attend the next London meet-up at which both of these issues will be discussed. If you can't attend this meetup, you may want to watch Wikipedia:Meetup, for updates on future meets.

We look forward to hearing from you soon, and we send our apologies for this automated intrusion onto your talk page!

Your recent edit to Chef prompted a WTF (Wot's This For?) and a bit of rooting around in the help pages. Cheers! Really? Good to know! Although I was actually just (effectively) reverting some vandalism by anon IP 190.83.23.206 who removed a lot of content, not all of which got added back. Because of the removal of the category, Chef appeared under the special page Special:UncategorizedPages which I occasionally trawl through, as it's amazing how much vandalism you can catch through doing that. But I'm glad I inadvertently helped :) Stephenb (Talk) 12:30, 19 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Would you care to explain this edit? The removal of unsourced material, especially without explanation, is not encouraged. Nev1 (talk) 20:10, 13 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Oops, I apologise profusely, I must have edited the wrong version. I was trying to work out why it didn't have a category by looking back into the article's history. Eventually I figured out that it was missing a </gallery> tag at the end, and must have hit "Edit this page" when viewing an older version. Really, a mistake, many apologies. Stephenb (Talk) 07:04, 14 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
No worries, we all make mistakes and it's been fixed. There shouldn't have been a gallery anyway as the only image in it is already used in the article, so I've removed it. Happy editting. Nev1 (talk) 15:40, 15 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

WP:NCC applies to all comics and is a class not a description. Hence you have both 2000 AD (comics) and Simon Davis (comics)/John Bolton (comics). (Emperor (talk) 14:34, 17 October 2008 (UTC))[reply]

The feel free to raise this at the Comics Project talk page, this has been much discussed and "(comic)" has been deemed an unacceptable disambiguation and it would require a consensus to change it. The fact there other article still use "(comic)" means they should be changed and isn't an argument for keeping "(comic)."
As I say John Bolton and Simon Davis are clearly not made from paper but their works are in the field of comics, which is why the disambiguation isn't a description it is a class. (Emperor (talk) 15:22, 17 October 2008 (UTC))[reply]

Hi there. I must admit after viewing an article for a 30 year old comic with more non-working links than working and no references provided, the urgency to correct any possible links to that article may have slipped my mind, but in any case the the hatnote I provided on the song page would lead readers to the correct page with one more click of the mouse. Next time I will be sure to fix any links but I'm sure you can understand my perspective on things, thanks! Xcahv8 (talk) 17:45, 17 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You know why as I have explained it so don't ask redundant questions. Why do you believe the opposite? Xcahv8 (talk) 10:20, 20 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Re: David Howard[edit]

Hi there!

Regarding this edit that was made: http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=David_Howard_%28disambiguation%29&diff=255810274&oldid=255281603

David Howard is widely regarded as one of the top 3 ballet instructors of the 20th century, often coaching principal dancers at New York City Ballet, the Royal Ballet, and at Paris Opera Ballet. His article has been listed on the Projects page of the Ballet Portal. Many ballet articles are mis-linking to the footballer page.

As such, I have undone your revert. Of course, I do not want to edit war and hope you will understand this is an article in process. Thanks so much for your understanding! Respectfully, Mark 207.237.61.26 (talk) 22:38, 7 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

No problem, though it is (and was) a red link - I was pretty much trying to put back an {{hndis}} that had been removed through vandalism Stephenb (Talk) 22:04, 8 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Stephenb. Thanks for being the first member of WikiProject Magazines! Sorry I haven't made a welcome template for the project yet. No, it's a point of view that it is ironic. "(!)" does not belong in an encyclopaedia. Stephenb (Talk) 10:11, 18 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

That's POV.Keith-264 (talk) 10:19, 18 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

That's a (well-supported) POV about encyclopaedia content, not a POV about the particular subject, which yours is, and which does not belong in the article. Stephenb (Talk) 10:23, 18 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Essex no longer in England?[edit]

You have edited a number of articles concerning places in Essex, removing the category of village or town in England. Have you taken upon yourself to remove Essex from England? In which case, what Country do you think Essex should be categorised with? (94.192.68.43 (talk) 15:13, 19 December 2008 (UTC))[reply]

Articles should not normally be in a category if they are already in a subcategory of that category. In this case, "Villages in Essex" is a subcategory of "Villages in England" and therefore including an article in both is not necessary. So "Essex is in England" was simply saying that, because the articles were in one category, the other is superfluous. HTH, Stephenb (Talk) 22:19, 19 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Huggle... >.<[edit]

Sorry about that, I guess you beat me to reverting it. Huggle decided to revert you instead of the 203.x IP and then crashed. Hope you understand. Have a great day! - Jameson L. Tai talkguestbookcontribs 09:46, 2 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry[edit]

Sorry about the problems with categorising. I thought that, if the category was exactly the same, it wasn't necessary to revert to exactly the same page if the content was the same. And I have to confess I'm not sure what all those tags are: other languages? I suppose I subconsciously thought that they weren't very important... As for the reference tags, often people remove those and the categories under them, and I suppose I was hoping that if the reference tag wasn't there, they'd leave the article alone... I didn't so much as "miss" them as decide that it wasn't that necessary to revert it exactly. I guess I got it wrong, though, right? Sorry again, I haven't had much experience with this.

Jeremy Vine etc.[edit]

Each editor has his or her own strengths and weaknesses, and areas that seem more enjoyable or rewarding. I have often reverted obvious vandalism or blatant slander. On the other hand, I have seen other editors correct such abuse while leaving atrocious spelling and grammar in the article. I don't see the need to point that out to them; I simply make the corrections. I have improved over 45,000 articles. If I stopped to investigate the history of every article that was not full of glowing praise for its subject, that number would be closer to 450. I am sure there are hundreds of editors who are better qualified to make the right call about Jeremy Vine, whose name was completely unknown to me. Happy editing! Hey, take it easy, I wasn't complaining about your editing. I am sure all 45,000 articles have been improved by your efforts (thanks for pointing the number of articles out, otherwise I wouldn't have known)... Stephenb (Talk) 17:34, 13 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Just to let you know[edit]

The editor you were previously edit warring with, User:Xcahv8, has been found to be a sock puppet of the user El Machete Guerrero, and has been blocked indefinitely. The master account has been banned, per a discussion on ANI, or to be more precise, per this diff. I shall now list all the accounts below:

EastEnders storyline[edit]

Hey Stephen, there's a discussion going on at here about whether or not the project should delete the Storylines of EastEnders pages. I dont want to AFD them if anyone objects, so I thought i'd ask if you do, as I remember that you were involved in the AFDs a few years back. I was in favour of keeping them at the time, but am now thinking they are more trouble to maintain than they are worth and that the storylines are all covered in character articles anyway. Do you have an opinion? GunGagdinMoan 22:37, 1 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The above article is being re-assessed as part of the GA Sweeps project The re-assessment has been placed on hold. It hasn't failed because it's basically a good article, but there are some minor changes or clarifications needing to be addressed. If these are fixed within seven days, the article will pass; otherwise it will fail. See Talk:James Bond for things needing to be addressed. Jezhotwells (talk) 17:47, 14 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Consensus?[edit]

I ask that you self-revert your latest edit because your summary of "per consensus" is invalid. There is no consensus, there is an on-going dispute that was only posted hours ago. This is a gross abuse of TWINKLE. Wikifan12345 (talk) 20:22, 1 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Nope. You are the only editor supporting the inclusion of that paragraph according to the talk page. Stephenb (Talk) 07:57, 3 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Apology[edit]

When I undid your edit to Dot Branning I didn't see the other changes, so I apologise for making you angry. AnemoneProjectors (talk) 13:42, 18 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Heh, no problem, I wasn't actually angry, just pretending :) Stephenb (Talk) 17:51, 18 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
That's ok, I wasn't only pretending to be sorry ;) AnemoneProjectors (talk) 19:29, 18 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
