  • Ditto. I saw your link while browsing WP:BN and figured it was going to be something absurd like requiring people to pick certain names. Couldn't be farther from the truth, and my impression is vastly different. Nyttend (talk) 20:57, 4 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose so far. Yes, it's a good idea, but I can see problems. Giving new editors a mobile phone length number isn't going to make spot the sock any easier - or at least the pinning of stray socks down to a fairly early in the career sockmaster. It's then we have a chance of 'persuading' them that we really mean it. I don't think one like Polllilur has made over a thousand edits in total between all his socks. Easy name to remember. How many mobile phone numbers (other than your own) can you remember? As to company names, having a user name like JoeBloggsSEO tells you straight off that you don't have an editor that's going to be worth trying to retain (and retrain...). One or two with company names to start with have become regular editors (I can think of one but can't remember his name). A few more have worked with people like MelanieN and TokyoGirl79 to produce articles that fit the policies. For the vast majority, they're SPA advertisers or (like JoeBloggsSEO) planning to load the place with junk from all their clients. (OK, I am cynical...) Peridon (talk) 09:31, 13 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose as is. I hit 1,000 edits over a year after registering, long after I knew what I was doing on here. Also, if you don't make all 1,000 edits at once, logging in is going to be a real pain. What do we do with the 21.8 million who haven't made the edits, but still have accounts? Origamite\(·_·\)(/·_·)/ 23:19, 19 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Firstly, many sockpuppets are, in fact, detectable largely because of their user names; prevent them from using their names, and its harder to find tem. Secondly, The use of these names can be confusing to the other editors. I know, for example, that Grutness knows a lot about stub sorting; however, if I see Sphilbrick making a stub sorting-related comment, I would look at it more carefully. Users can end up understanding some parts of the wiki before they reach 1000 edits (especially if they'd previously edited anonymously). Thirdly,it can be confusing the user - I can see that EditorEn140721.15042 may have trouble logging in - simply because (s)he tries names like EditorEn140720.15042, EditorEn140721.15402 and other similar ones. עוד מישהו Od Mishehu 11:39, 21 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
