Request reason:

My college has a proxy that all staff/students need to use to get internet access on site but it is not an open proxy. My IP address here has been blocked because of issues about Open Proxies but I am a registered and auto-approved user. I'm being blocked from fixing formatting on pages about international schools! Unfortunately, without knowing what the IP address is, there is no way of unblocking the IP address. Please give the information about the IP address that is included in the notice you get when you try to edit. That information can then be passed to the Wikiproject on open proxies. BTW, if you create an article as user space draft (e.g. in this case under the name User:Sinisterstuf/Penda Jonas Hashoongo) you will have all the time in the world to improve it without the danger of deletion. Hi you're right, we've met, and that's no problem, it wasn't my article, just that I was actively working on it. But honestly it was probably not notable enough, seeing as it did get deleted. I did the userspace thing you mentioned with an article I wrote myself: Windhoek International School which I have now moved to the main namespace because I felt it had more. I want to add a few more sections and then when that's done I'm wondering if you know about how to get an article assessed? Sinisterstuf (talk) 07:52, 24 November 2011 (UTC)

Article assessment is a very informal process, somebody, usually from one of the WikiProjects that tag the article as "theirs", comes along and makes a judgment. I had a look just now and think it is a "start-class" article---things that stand in the way of a higher rating are the unreferenced Campus section, and the situation that many of the interesting facts are only supported by references published by the school.

Up to B-class article assessment works this way, only the very best content (A-class, Good Articles, Featured Articles) has a more or less formal assessment procedure, and a checklist of what exactly to expect. You can also assess articles on Wikipedia, but assessment is always linked to Wikipedia projects. The entry on Talk:Windhoek International School I produced inserting this code:{{WikiProject Africa|Namibia=yes|class=start|Namibia-importance=low}}. Thanks for assessment and the pointers. I'm not sure what I could do about either of those things though. There don't seem to be many resources about the school on the internet, most of them say the exact same thing as the school's own site, or even less. I haven't seen a book about or mentioning it and most articles in newspapers are about sports or other things that wouldn't really be appropriate for an encyclopedia. I couldn't really find anything to reference for the campus section so I guess that part is kind of "original research" because I actually went to the campus to take the pictures I put in the article.

Well, it would be quite a piece of luck to have a peer-reviewed paper, or even a newspaper article, describe the campus of WIS. This situation just mirrors the fact that school articles in general are not overly "valuable" to the overall mission of an encyclopedia; they can only rarely convey historically significant information. An article like Education in Namibia, OTOH, has a lot of potential sources but usually no editor interested in developing it. User:Dr. Blofeld has created Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/Contests. The idea is to run a series of contests/editathons focusing on each region of Africa. He has spoken to Wikimedia about it and $1000-1500 is possible for prize money. Invite to the African Destubathon

Hi. You may be interested in participating in the African Destubathon which starts on October 15. Africa currently has over 37,000 stubs and badly needs a quality improvement editathon/contest to flesh out basic stubs. There are proposed substantial prizes to give to editors who do the most geography, wildlife and women articles, and planned smaller prizes for doing to most destubs for each of the 53 African countries, so should be enjoyable! Even if contests aren't your thing we would be grateful if you could consider destubbing a few African articles during the drive to help the cause and help reduce the massive 37,000 + stub count, of which many are rated high importance (think Regions of countries etc). If you're interested in competing or just loosely contributing, whether it's a river in Malawi, a Nigerian footballer, or a South African civil rights activist, please add your name to the Contestants/participants section.
