Timidity[edit]

Hey, there! I happened to notice the note you left on Marek's talk page introducing yourself. Let me also extend a greeting. Although the message above mine is the result of a "template" (i.e., the text of it is standardized) the sentiment behind it is real; my message to you here is not the result of a template— I have written it myself, word for word, to make sure you also have a more "real" greeting and to offer my own services to you. I've been editing Wikipedia for eight years now, and I am still figuring it all out!. One of the first things I wanted to encourage you to do is that whenever you leave a message on a talk page(whether the talk page of another editor or the talk page of an article), you should leave four tildes at the very end, right before you hit "save". This will generate an automatic signature for you so others can readily see who wrote what (my own signature is a somewhat stylized version of my username, with some blue and green thrown in, which makes it easy for me to find my own comments on other people's talk pages, which has been useful for me— if you do not create one of these signatures, the four tildes will just put your username, which is certainly good enough, along with the time and date of your comment). Another tidbit: whenever you respond to someone's comment on the same page, it is common to indent your own comment by beginning that comment with a colon. A colon at the beginning of a paragraph indents that paragraph by one tab. Two colons, two tabs. You can try it out right here by letting me know you got this message! I will be watching your talk page, and so will be notified if/ when you respond. The third thing I wanted to encourage you to do is to generate your userpage. This will make your signature turn up as blue rather than red whenever you sign things, and it's sometimes nice to know what people are about, which is what the userpage is for. Some people have userpages that say nothing more than, "This is my userpage." That's not very helpful, but there ain't no law against it neither. Anyhow, and again, welcome!
