I mentioned this to Thequackdaddy as well, but I thought it might be helpful to address you as well. Your recent claims on the Blagojevich page have a few things that make me curious. Press releases are public domain with information and numbers verified by the state, desgined for public use (and in the case of much of the media, often copying verbatim). Simply put, there is no copyright when it comes to press releases issued by an office. The links are provided right underneath each section, not even consigned to the notes section. So what is the exact rule. The credit is fully given. Furthermore, your (and Thequackdaddy's) consistent monitoring of this page to remove postive elements but to protect under-referenced and biased negative content on this page has me very curious to who would spend so much energy doing so. You have stated that this section should not be a soapbox; what do you call the more blantantly biased negative postings on this page. It seems no one has a problem with information or the rules if the information is negative. I'd appreciate a response (and a more thorough explanation of what exact rules are being broken); for now, I will edit the information I am trying to include and continue to repost. You may want to check with copyright experts here at WP, but I'm pretty sure state press releases are not automatically in the public domain. They may be published with permission to redistribute, but that is not equivalent to public domain. Furthermore, even if something is in the public domain, that does not mean it should be copied verbatim on Wikipedia. Press releases can be cited as reliable sources, but actual Wikipedia content must be written in an encyclopedic style (which means avoiding the use of weasel words and peacock terms).

Also, please assume good faith here on Wikipedia. I have no political agenda or opinion on this article; my "consistent monitoring" of this page is because I reverted vandalism on it once, so it was added to my watchlist. If you look at my edit history, you will see that I have never "removed positive content" and the only time I "protected under-referenced and biased negative content" was with your edits, and this was only because you were blanking large sections of the article at once without an adequate explanation.

I may refer this to the WP:BLP noticeboard, since frankly I don't deal with biographies of living persons articles that often and my knowledge of their policies is not great. SheepNotGoats, thank you for your help. I admit I came on harshly and under-equipped to know how to effectively edit Wikipedia and probably should have more closely read the rules concerning weasel words and peacock terms. I had called the Illinois offices the releases had concerned and their representatives informed me they did not have copyright issues, but now I understand it's more an issue of formatting. As for the blanking, I also admit I simply didn't know what I was doing. Thank you for the advice (and for checking for vandalism, one of the reasons I got heated about the Governor's page in the first place); I would like to still include the information on the Governor's initatives, but I will revert to encyclopedia language and look for some more concrete sources, as well. My response is coming a bit late, but thanks for writing here. I may have come on harsh as well; there's a rule at Wikipedia about not biting newcomers, and I admit I am sometimes guilty of that. After reverting vandalism all day, it's easy to start assuming bad faith of everyone. Anyway, I hope you decide to stick around here, and I'd be happy to help you learn more about editing Wikipedia. Sorry, I meant to include a reason in my edit summary but I hit enter before I got a chance to type it in. The reason I reverted your changes was because your content was uncited, and Wikipedia requires that all content about living persons (especially negative content) be verified by reliable sources. In addition, the section "Interview with Washington Post" contained personal analysis and original research, which is forbidden in Wikipedia articles. It's okay to cite the article and briefly summarize the interview, but we can't include our own analysis of it.

I have no relationship with Katharineamy, other than we are both Wikipedia editors who are trying to uphold Wikipedia's policies and principles.

How do you know what they did is negative? I didn't specifiy what they did as negative. It sounds like instead of your working at wiki but with other reasons. You gave me the reason of reverted as uncited. But, all your wrote or previous person wrote cited? there are things not cited. Why you didn't take it off those are not cited at the previous. Your article was deleted because WP has specific guidelines for determining the notability of a person, such as being covered by third-party, reliable sources or releasing more than two albums on a major label (for example). You can find more information on what makes a musician notable at WP:MUSIC, and if you feel that the person in question meets these guidelines, feel free to re-create the article specifically addressing how the person is notable by Wikipedia's standards. Free Universities

There is only one free university. It has been in existence since 1999 and has had several thousand students in over 30 countries. There are over 200 free classes available. It is supported by Texas A&M University and now hosts all the course from the original Free A&M University. It hosts all the courses from the original Free MIT and offers testing and evaluation for learners using all 1,600 Open course ware classes from http://ocw.mit.edu It even has a bible institute called Free Open Bible Institute with over 100 courses on it as well.

If Free Open University, the only free university, is not notable, do not have a page on free universities because it is only one. If you do have a page on free universities we should be on it with all the other things someone might call a free university. It should be made clear that none of the thinks listed as free universities are in fact free universities. Scottprovost (talk) 13:12, 19 March 2009 (UTC)

I did not want my site or any site that is not a free university listed. If my Free Open University ever becomes worthy I would love to have it listed everywhere. It probably isn't and shouldn't be listed Should Wikiversity be listed? You can actually get a degree at our facility. We actually have a 7 acre campus and a 5,000 sq ft facility 1.2 miles from Texas A&M University. We have real professors and all out courses are given to us by the most notable universities in the world.

What I really want is for Wikiversity to really make available collegiate Independent Study guidelines and content they can have all the courses we have formatted on to Moodle and more if they would just be a real Collegiate Independent Study resource for independent study that is transferable to a real university. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Scottprovost (talk • contribs) 13:42, 19 March 2009 (UTC)

Hey Scott, I mentioned this a bit on the article talk page, but Free University is a disambiguation page, which means it acts like an index to different articles on Wikipedia that have the same (or similar) names. The use of the term "free university" appears to be popular in Europe, although they don't use it the same way as we do in the U.S. (to mean free-of-charge). That's why the universities listed there are not truly cost-free.

Again, I'm not too familiar with Wikiversity, but from what I understand, it's meant to be more of a portal for educational resources than a structured learning program.

Incidentally, I like the way your school is using Moodle. I've used it a bit in the past, but I'd always found it difficult to get the layout and formatting to look decent. Yours looks really nice, though. SheepNotGoats (Talk) 13:55, 19 March 2009 (UTC)

Thank you. The homosocratic method allows the students to do most of the work and keeps the cost so low that we can offer classes free. There is a university in Benin City Edo State Nigeria that will give you an accredited degree completely independent study if you prepare your essays and defend them according to our plan. I can make you a teacher if you want to post some classes. There are hundreds of classes we need formatted yet. No problem. I only removed the most egregious stuff, but I think it needs a lot more trimming down. The way it is now practically invites people to add junk, and anyway I'm thinking the "Local Businesses" and "Communities and Locations" sections should really only contain items that are inherently notable, per Wikipedia's standards. What do you think of cutting these sections down to only contain truly notable items (mainly items that have coverage in third-party sources)? I agree completely with what you said. This article has been drawing stupid additions for some time. What is a fundamental concern is that the editors seem to have confused the Town of Greene with the Village of Greene. Templates

Please try to avoid using the template {{db-g8}}. As it says in the box that the template generates, it is preferable to use a more specific template; for example, {{db-talk}} for a talk page associated with a non-existent or deleted page. University of the People

I was going to nominate University of the People for speedy deletion. It appears to be a scam operated by the president of Cramster corporation to sell cramsters to people who aren't even going to college. While a clever way to expand your customer base for cheat sheets. It is not a university accredited or even involving professors. It is not free $100 per class plus the $60 optional cramster and the $300 tutoring fee and the $300 registration fee makes it more expensive than you local fully accredited community college.

It is not a Free anything but it is certainly not the first free university. Free open University has around since 1998 with hundreds of students and is graduating its first Doctoral student next month. Free Open university is Free and not a scam. Wikipedia Speedy Delete Free Open University because after 11 years in operation with over 10,000 learners server and hundreds of students, it is not significant. Mean while dozens of bogus web sites that are not free and have no professors and no actual classes are listed on Wikipedia as Free Universities.

Free Open University is the only Open University on earth that we know of. We do not require any thing prior to enrolling. For that reason alone, we can never receive accreditation from any accrediting agency in the US even though they agree that our quality of education is superior to many accredited institutions. Hi Scott, at first I considered this article for deletion too; the amount of editing by COI editors and advertisement-like language of the article made me suspicious. However, it looks like it meets Wikipedia's notability guideline (mainly, it has been covered in reliable sources like the New York Times). Right now I'm trying to go through the current article and provide inline citations for things (or remove anything un-citeable). (For instance, I couldn't find a reliable source that supported the claim of being the first free university, so I removed it.) After I'm done, I'm going to take another look at the sources and facts that are left and see if it merits deletion. It's quite possible that the current spate of news articles is simply the result of a one-time PR blitz; we'll probably get a better idea as the months go on and we get closer to the fall.

I'm almost positive a speedy deletion wouldn't succeed at this point; the only terms that could possibly be used would be WP:A7, no assertion of notability, or WP:G11, blatant advertisement. But the presence of so many reliable sources could be used to assert notability, and I think the article is far less of an advertisement than it was before. If you want, you can list the article at Articles for Deletion, which would allow the Wikipedia community to review it and determine whether it should stay. Instructions for listing articles there are available at WP:AFDHOWTO.

It may seem unfair that your articles got deleted while this one isn't. For my part, it's mainly because this one's got reliable sources, like the New York Times and Sydney Morning Herald, discussing it, so that's why I'm giving it a chance.

As a side note, one thing I found somewhat amusing about "University of the People" was that they claim to provide education to "the poorest and most remote places on earth", which for me conjured images of starving people in Africa, but they require 12 years of schooling and proficient English and computer skills. We at Free Open University have been battling the idea that admitting learners who do not have high school diplomas excludes a school from accreditation and have formed a committee for accreditation that is working on getting an accreditation facility for independent self study and micro schools. We have many people in Africa and other locations that can not demonstrate high school proficiency.

We are making the university available on CD for people who do not have internet access. It will display it self in FreeBSD on any 386 or later computer. Our new Free Medical School provides courses from Harvard Medical School and others and is being used to train workers in places where to doctor is not available. The $70,000 add campaign that Cramster dot com did in the New York Times may have helped inspire their coverage. Please help us (without breaking and Wikipedia Rules) become notable. Hello- this is Daniela from University of the People. I just wanted to touch base-since there are so many intense conversations about the validity of UoPeople. We open our doors in 3 days- September 10,2009. Cramster is irrelevant to the University of the People and I am unclear why it would be added to the UoPeople page. A Cramster controversy is independent of Uopeople. UoPeople has been working tirelessly (staff and volunteers), to open a University, an opportunity to allow people from all over the world, who have received a high school education, or equivalent to participate in the opportunity to receive a higher education. And Scott- with all due respect, I am surprised to see you here so adamantly opposed to this university. You are a friend/colleague of Shai's (Founder and President) and a member of his Ning network who has posted many lovely thoughts. A personal issue has nothing to do with the endeavor's of this university- who are supported and backed by the UN as well as many other high level people who will be donating their time to lecture to students online- for example-the Former President of India. Picture of serpentine leaf miner

Dear reader, If I understand it well, you placed the picture of the larvae in the Serpentine leaf miner article. There is a problem here: larvae of higher flies, Agromyzidae included, are maggots, without a recognisable head, and without feet. The larvae on thepicture clearly are different. I guess they are Nepticulids, but that's not relevant now. I would urgently suggest to remove the picture.

Hi Willem, thanks for contacting me about this possible error. Unfortunately I'm not an entomologist, and I took this picture from the Bugwood network [8], a reputable entomology site run by the University of Georgia. While it's fully possible that UGA made a mistake in identification (or the photographer, who was employed by USDA/ARS), I would need to see more evidence of this before removing the image. Wikipedia is based on information verified in reliable sources, and I would feel more comfortable having another reliable source clearly demonstrate that this picture is incorrect (ideally, another reliable photo of this species), rather than a general assertion that larvae of this family don't look like this. For example, this ARS photo of Liriomyza langei [9] has a recognizable head, and this UFL page [10] describes Liriomyza sativae larvae as having visible mouthparts. Frankly, I'm not sure how it would work, but I assume they would go down the list of people on the sign-up sheet in order. Also, the username login they gave me is my personal email address, so ideally I'd prefer to get that switched to a generic login before giving it to someone, but I don't know if that's possible. Credo Reference Update & Survey (your opinion requested)

Credo Reference, who generously donated 400 free Credo 250 research accounts to Wikipedia editors over the past two years, has offered to expand the program to include 100 additional reference resources. Credo wants Wikipedia editors to select which resources they want most. So, we put together a quick survey to do that:
