File permission problem with File:Srijan as a speaker on NDTV Profit.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Srijan as a speaker on NDTV Profit.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.

If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read the Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. January (talk) 15:31, 28 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Possibly unfree files[edit]

Hello Sharma Nishtha. It has been over six months since you last edited your WP:AFC draft article submission, entitled "Srijan Pal Singh".

The page will shortly be deleted. If you plan on editing the page to address the issues raised when it was declined and resubmit it, simply edit the submission and remove the {{db-afc}} or {{db-g13}} code. Please note that Articles for Creation is not for indefinite hosting of material deemed unsuitable for the encyclopedia mainspace.

If your submission has already been deleted by the time you get there, and you want to retrieve it, copy this code: {{subst:Refund/G13|Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Srijan Pal Singh}}, paste it in the edit box at this link, click "Save page", and an administrator will in most cases undelete the submission.

Thanks for your submission to Wikipedia, and happy editing. JMHamo (talk) 00:20, 24 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Advantage India, requesting that it be deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under two or more of the criteria for speedy deletion, by which articles can be deleted at any time, without discussion. If the page meets any of these strictly-defined criteria, then it may be soon be deleted by an administrator. The reasons it has been tagged are:

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Hello, Sharma Nishtha, and welcome to Wikipedia! A couple of points about the status of File:Advantage India.png:
  • If you did design this logo for Advantage India, then you have a conflict of interest (and are almost certainly a paid editor) and should declare that conflict on your user page. (Note that for paid editing, disclosure on the user page is mandatory and violators may be blocked from editing Wikipedia.)
  • Also, logo copyrights are usually considered to belong to the organization the logo is used to identify, not the designer who created the logo — otherwise the organization couldn't use the logo without asking the designer's permission every single time. So even if you did design the logo yourself, you might not have the right to say it can be used under the license specified on the image page.
  • About that license: In order to be used on Wikipedia, most images have to be released under a Creative Commons license. These licenses mean that anyone can use an image released under such a license for any purpose — this would even mean that another organization could use the logo designed for Advantage India to impersonate Advantage India and make Advantage India look bad! For this reason, it is extremely rare for organizations to allow their logos to be licensed under Creative Commons... but that's how it's currently listed.
If you made mistakes in the information you gave when uploading the image, that's okay; copyright is confusing, and lots of people make mistakes with it. Even people who know about copyright in general often make mistakes when it comes to the specific rules relating to copyright on Wikipedia. The incorrect information can simply be replaced.
Normally, logos to be used on Wikipedia are included here based on the Fair Use exception in copyright law. In a nutshell, this means that anyone can use a copyrighted image (such as a logo) if they have a legitimate educational purpose for using it and an alternative image wouldn't work. So the copyright status claimed for the Advantage India logo image should probably be changed to a free use rationale rather than a claim that no one except you personally owns the copyright of the design. Fair Use would also require that the current version of the logo be replaced with a lower-resolution copy, about 200 pixels wide.
Unfortunately, on Wikipedia, a Fair Use rationale requires that the logo actually be in use on an article, and draft articles such as Draft:Advantage India do not count. Even if the draft article were to be made acceptable by inclusion of inline citations to reliable sources to substantiate its claims and establish its notability, it typically takes more than a week for drafts to be reviewed at Articles for Creation, and so the file currently uploaded will probably have to be deleted. You can then upload a low-resolution copy when the draft becomes an article. If you need help converting the existing file to a low-resolution version, I would be happy to help you do that.
You can ask questions either here (by clicking "edit" next to the section header Possibly unfree File:Advantage India.png and adding yout text beneath mine, where you see two colons :: like so) or at the Teahouse, a friendly place to learn about editing Wikipedia.
Thanks in advance for responding so the image's status can be resolved. Note that if you do nothing, the image will be deleted. —GrammarFascist contribstalk 10:49, 29 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
