Information icon Hello, I'm RoseGold1250. I wanted to let you know that one or more of your recent contributions to Alexis Ohanian have been undone because they did not appear constructive. If you would like to experiment, please use your sandbox. If you have any questions, you can ask for assistance at the Teahouse. Thanks. It's rose gold! (T?) 17:33, 18 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Names of non-notable relatives[edit]

Hi Sarah, please read WP:BLPNAMES. Wikipedia generally does not publish the names of non-notable relatives (using Wikipedia's definition of notable) for privacy reasons. Also, Page Six is a tabloid so is not a reliable source. You can get an idea of what Wikipedia considers reliable at WP:RSP. While it is certainly not a comprehensive list of all possible sources, it does cover many popular ones. I will leave you a another note with some additional information about editing Wikipedia which includes some of its main policies. If you have questions or need help, you can ask at the Teahouse. Hello, SarahFoxtrot1983. Welcome to Wikipedia!

I'm S0091, one of the other editors here, and I hope you decide to stay and help contribute to this amazing repository of knowledge.

To help get you started, you may find these useful:

When editing, follow the 3 Core Content Policies:
1. Neutral point of view: represent significant views fairly
2. Verifiability: claims should cite reliable, published sources
3. No original research: no originality; reference published sources

Remember to always sign your posts on talk pages. You can do this either by clicking on the button on the edit toolbar or by typing four tildes ~~~~ at the end of your post. This will automatically insert your signature, a link to this (your talk) page, and a timestamp.

@S0091: Hi Yeah sorry about that. I didn't know that children's names are not considered notable. Won't happen again. Thx for the introduction to wikipedia though. SarahFoxtrot1983 (talk) 20:43, 18 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Hey Sarah, have you edited Wikipedia before, perhaps under a different account? I ask because you seem quite familiar with certain things for someone that has just started editing today (i.e. indenting, pings, consensus)? S0091 (talk) 20:50, 18 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Nope. I have been a long time reader though. I just read through some of the Wikipedia user guides and read through the talk pages before adding my section. I guess i'm just a quick study. SarahFoxtrot1983 (talk) 21:37, 18 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the reply, Sarah. I think most new editors do little if any reading of the "backpages" before they start so glad you have. S0091 (talk) 21:46, 18 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

A lengthy welcome[edit]

Hi SarahFoxtrot1983. I Welcome to Wikipedia. I hope you don't mind if I share some of my thoughts on starting out as a new editor on Wikipedia: If I could get editors in your situation to follow just one piece of advice, it would be this: Learn Wikipedia by working only on non-contentious topics until you have a feel for the normal editing process and the policies that usually come up when editing casually. You'll find editing to be fun, easy, and rewarding. The rare disputes are resolved quickly and easily in collaboration.

Working on biographical information about living persons is far more difficult. Wikipedia's Biographies of living persons policy requires strict adherence to multiple content policies, and applies to all information about living persons including talk pages.

If you have a relationship with the topics you want to edit, then you will need to review Wikipedia's Conflict of interest policy, which may require you to disclose your relationship and restrict your editing depending upon how you are affiliated with the subject matter. Regardless, editing in a manner that promotes an entity or viewpoint over others can appear to be detrimental to the purpose of Wikipedia and the neutrality required in articles.

Some topic areas within Wikipedia have special editing restrictions that apply to all editors. It's best to avoid these topics until you are extremely familiar with all relevant policies and guidelines.

If you work from reliable, independent sources, you shouldn't go far wrong. WP:RSP and WP:RSN are helpful in determining if a source is reliable.

I hope you find some useful information in all this, and welcome again. --Hipal (talk) 21:38, 19 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Sarah, I will add just a bit onto what Hipal has stated given I just reverted a change you made. You can make bold edits but once another editor disagrees with your change (meaning it is controversial), the appropriate action to take is to start a discussion on the talk page rather than simply reinstating your change (see WP:EPTALK). The WP:3RR rule is just a bright-line and is not the only consideration when for determining edit warring. Edit wars can persist over a period a time which is just a disruptive (arguably more so) than what occurs over a 24 hour period. S0091 (talk) 22:30, 19 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
