Navigation Bar[edit]

Hey Teh Tennisman! I hope you don't mind that I copied and edited your navigation bar to my page. "After all, it's a Wiki" RyGuy Happy New Year! 12:32, 6 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hey no problem. You're right it is a Wiki. Given that I stole it from someone, it really doesn't matter to me! --tennisman sign here! 17:38, 6 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
By the way, if you don't want your talk page to be too long, you can always add werdnabot to it so that old sections will be automatically archived. I am saying this because I noticed your 'old talk' page. All you'd have to do is get the code (I have it if you want it from there) and change the name and where to put it, then copy paste from your old talk to your first archive and you'd be good to go. [1] for how to do it. --tennisman sign here! 20:04, 6 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

WP:ADOPT[edit]

Hi there,

As a current Adopter with the Adopt-a-User program there has been some ongoing developments that we would like to bring to your attention.

A new Adopter's Area has been created where you can find useful resources and other Adopter's experiences. Please feel free to add any resources you may have found useful as an Adopter, as well as recount any experiences that you think may help others. If you know of any useful resources for new users / Adoptees then you can add them here.

Also the way the adoption process works has changed slightly. To decrease workload at Category:Wikipedians seeking to be adopted in Adopt-a-user, on offering adoption please change the {{Adoptme}} template to {{Adoptoffer}} on the user's user page, and this will add the user to Category:Wikipedians having been offered adoption. Users that have already been offered adoption can always have a second or third offer, but by separating out those users that have not had an adoption offer yet, it is hoped that no one will go lacking.

Furthermore numerous Adopters have been adding their details to a list of users available for adopting, to offer a more personalised service and allow new users to browse through and pick their own Adopter. The quickest way to adopt though, is still to contact users at the Category:Wikipedians seeking to be adopted in Adopt-a-user.

Finally - thanks for all your hard work, keep it up - and if you have any general questions or suggestions about the further development of Wikipedia:Adopt-a-User please bring them to our talk page. Cheers Lethaniol 14:00, 13 January 2007 (UTC) [reply]

Template[edit]

That's good! I copied mine too, from the one I got. The only thing is that you should have it in userspace, to avoid taking up server space. It's easy, just click "move" at the top of the page, and in the small box, change the text to (example) "User:RyGuy/rywel". Then, whenever you're welcoming someone, do the same as with a template; in this case, it would be {{subst:User:RyGuy/rywel}} ("subst:" means the template will stay the same as when you added it, so it won't change if you edit it). Just remember to delete the redirect at Template:rywel (just add {{db-author}}, since you're not an admin). Good luck! | AndonicO Talk · Sign Here 13:29, 23 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sandbox Edits[edit]

Thanks for your message about Sandbox edits and setting up a user page. I've made a start but I'll add more shortly. I was recently blocked from editing the Sandbox because I used it too much (I was checking the formatting of an article that I was about to upload) - is that normal? What is acceptable use for the Sandbox? David m thomas 15:27, 29 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not a complete expert, but I do know that you can't edit any page too many times on the same day. That is normal, and the block should wear off soon. Just to let you know, the sandbox is for any experiments, and you can go to different parts of it for different tests, but what you did was fine. Just give it some time and once the block wears off, be careful not to edit a page so many times (by the page history I saw you edited a whole lot). Here's a tip: Click the "Show Preview" button before submiting edits to see if there's anything you want to change. Good luck with that article! RyGuy Sign Here! Regarding Shaericell's recent block[edit]

You asked about Shaericell.

She was indefinitely, not infinitely, blocked because I believe her and her "sister's" profile are fraudulent, because she has been uploading images with apparently deliberately false licenses, using Wikipedia for social networking, etc. I have contacted her by email and given her several options, all of which would involve unblocking, and would be happy to do so if she is willing to adhere to Wikipedia policies. Once again, this is not meant to be an infinite block, it is meant to be a temporary block until she can resolve the licenses on the images her and her sockpuppet have been uploading or until they agree not to upload fake images, and until she has read WP:NOT. --Yamla 15:39, 31 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Help Requested by Freiddy[edit]

Hello RyGuy! I recently spotted vandalism in an article Buoyancy (by chance!) by the IP 204.108.230.2. I'm not sure what to do, please help. This IP also seems to be a frequent vandalist, so should I report him/her or something? I will try to revert the changes. --Freiddy 19:39, 29 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I see you have already reverted it, so I will go on to another step. Here is a link to my monobook.js that I want you to copy and put here. That links to your monobook.js (click the link under "From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia"). After copying, return here. Only copy up to the last //, no more, no less Okay, good job. Now copy all the stuff here to your css(click the link under "From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia"). Then come back here.
Okay, now you have new tabs, but wait, you need to press control + F5 to see them. When you see them, and you are editing a talk page, hover your mouse over them to see what they do. Just don't click them on a non-vandal's, and make sure they are the correct warnings. Remember, after reverting, always warn the vandal. Plus, now you can report him/her! Good luck! RyGuy Sign Here! My Journal 13:18, 30 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Unfortunately, things were a bit messy with this new addition. The tabs did come up, but were horribly aligned (and IE tells me there are script errors). Did I do something wrong? Perhaps I don't know how to copy script files... --Freiddy 10:06, 31 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Well, maybe your IE doesn't support it. Which version do you have? I have 7, and it stil sometimes gives me errors. RyGuy Sign Here! My Journal 12:42, 31 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Mine's also IE7. The borders seem to have "vibrated off their original positions" mostly. That's what it looks like in my browser.--Freiddy 18:13, 31 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, that's what you mean. Well, it's the same on mine too, but it's fine. Nobody can be perfect right? It wasn't me who wrote the js, but still. The script errors should stop soon, at least, that's what happened to me. Maybe the browser needs to "get used to it", if you know what I mean. RyGuy Sign Here! That wasn't going to work. Forest is banned as a sockpuppeteer here on Wikipedia, and I don't think it was a good idea for him to have checkuser. Also, not all admins should have checkuser (IP adresses are coded according to where the person lives), especially not when the first 25 people are admins, and especially not on a childrens website. The database will sometime temporarily lock itself. This is often done automatically and for short periods of time for maintenace reasons. RC patrol[edit]

I noticed you asked Arjun to block someone; I don't think he'll be on until this afternoon (he usually isn't). Instead of asking an admin you know for a block, you should go to Wikipedia:Administrator intervention against vandalism, (shortened to WP:AIV). Also, after reporting users, don't tell the vandals they were reported (that just makes them want to go out and do more damage before they are blocked). By the way, I like those big warnings; it must be intimidating to find one of those on your talk page. :-) · AO Talk 13:49, 27 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hey Ryan; whats up?[edit]

Hi don't be worried about Riana's page, once she comes out of inactivity then you can offer to put it back up. She just needs a break for personal reasons. Hey but the template that you created is awesome; I have noticed that you are very good at wiki-markup which is not an easy thing thats for sure! Oh and about my page; I deleted it and added two simple userboxes for personal/security reasons. I hope you can understand. Its just that there are "certain people" that want to cause harm to people; and I just want to keep my identity as basic as possible on Wikipedia. However I am still the nice, friendly guy named Arjun, and if you ever need a friend I am always available. Hope life is well. Cheers! ~ Arjun 15:35, 7 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Mm... the main problem here is that the wiki is set up so only members of The Phoenix Project can have accounts... a necessary hurdle so that we minimize (that is... eliminate) vandals... it's a little restrictive, and I don't want to force you into A:PP, but that's a necessary step :P
My apologies!

Okay, that's good. Where were you all that time? Ryan Got something to say? 11:56, 8 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I was a bit annoyed with both myself and Seven of Nine. I had a lot of stress at the time both in RL and on wiki's. That was kinda the last straw. I would like to explain to you what happened with that. Seven of Nine was being ultra-critical about the wiki, that is fine. What is not fine was his actions inbeetween that and me blocking him and also after. What happened was he wrote on his user page "I am tired of telling children how to run wiki's." I find that to be highly offensive so I deleted it and made a policy against it. It is common sense not to put rude stuff of user space!. He kept on accusing me of expos-facto. I would calmly state my oppinion yet he would keep on accusing me of it. To me it was clear that he was trying to cause trouble. I got fed up with him so I blocked him. It was not abuse because there was no policy against it. I was not breaking a single policy. You can only judge people under the laws that they had at the time. Even after I left the wiki Seven of Nine kept on harrasing me. He sent me about 5 rude emails. Have a nice week and god bless. --James, La gloria è a dio 01:11, 9 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Now, I am not accusing you of anything at the moment, but just because there isn't a policy doesn't meant that an action can be wrong anyway. I'm just pointing that out, and not assigning any blame to any action. Ryan Got something to say? 12:05, 9 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Your signature[edit]

Please consider reducing the size of your signature. In particular the tag <font face="Edwardian Script ITC" size="5"> is making it appear 2-3 times as large as the surrounding text. Since you are calling a non-standard font, anyone missing the font gets a generic font, but extra large. —dgiestc 21:46, 8 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Seven of Nine[edit]

It seems as if Seven of Nine is starting to get a bit out of control. He has been rude quite a bit lately. I have given him one warning so far, every time he is rude warn him. Give him 2 more and after that if he is rude it is clear he is there to troll and we can block him for a week. Ad box[edit]

Hi, thanks for your interest in my advertising box! Just one small suggestion - could you possibly transclude the template (using {{User:Qxz/ad.css}}) rather than copying the code to your userpage? The main reason for this is that I'm constantly changing the selection of ads; I've nearly doubled the number of ads in rotation since you copied the code, and I'm adding more all the time; anyone not transcluding the template will miss out. I think people who have requested ads will appreciate it if 'their' ad shows up in every version of the box, and I've set up an information page which is now linked from the template. It's also nice to be consistent, and it helps me track who's using it. Thanks – Qxz 21:23, 11 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, done, and thanks for telling me. RyGuy 11:42, 12 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Ad suggestion[edit]

Hi Qxz! I think your ads are a great idea to promote wikiprojects and other such things. I was wondering if you could make one for Concordia. I would have made the animation, but unfortunately my computer doesn't have the neccisary program (whatever it may be). Again, thanks for the ads! RyGuy 15:13, 12 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, thank you for your suggestion. I was under the impression, though, that the Concordia project is now inactive – that seems to be the impression given by Wikipedia:Concordia. Am I missing something? – Qxz 15:15, 12 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Youch! Why must so many things happen while I am away?(and only for the weekend too) Well, how about an ad for The Wikipedia Typo Team? I have an idea for it. Have the words: Help make Wikipedia Perfecvt! . Then have the typing cursor appear, and erase the v. Then have it fade out and say: Join The Typo Team! . Then have this appear in smaller text below that: Click here to find out more! . Of course, have it link to WP:TYPO. I hope WP:TYPO isn't de-activated too! RyGuy 15:25, 12 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
