My edits to SOT-A were done to remove the personal commentary regarding disagreements with the content of the article. Wikipedia articles are not forums for discussing changes or issues. That is the function of the article talk pages. Gripes about command not utilizing SOT-A teams to their best abilities does not belong in the article either as again, Wikipedia articles are not forums.

As for the issue if it is "Support" or "Special", page Glossary-23 of the two references used in the article list it as "Special". There was also a recent press release from the NSA honoring two SOT-A service members and the release lists it as "Special". I did look up what you referenced, FM 34-36, Chapter 4, and there is indeed reference to "Support". But unless my understanding is incorrect, the reference FM 3-05.102 as used in the article supersedes FM 34-36 (the previous link) as FM 3-05.102 has a later publication date.

I have left a message at Wikipedia:WikiProject Military history asking for interested editors to review the article and resolve the issue. The editors at that WikiProject have an interest in all things military and can verify or correct the article. The post I left is at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Military history#Help_with_SOT-A.

You are welcome to change, update, or expand the article as much as you wish, but you should not re-add personal commentary about previous revisions of the article or the editors that made them. The article is poorly referenced, so if you can locate and cite additional references for the article, you are more than welcome to do so. However, those references must be from reliable sources that are available for verification. Re your message: I see that you found the most recent FM and have updated the article. Thank you for that and I think that settles that particular issue.

As for the Capabilities section, that is indeed unsourced. The preferable fix would be to find the proper sources and correct the section. I do realize that due to the nature of the teams, finding public sources may be difficult. If sources can't be found and the section is completely wrong, then it can be deleted or completely rewritten. As for deleting the entire article, that likely will not happen as the topic is notable and some article in some form or another should exist. Do you have the time to research the necessary sources to cite the Capabilities section? The sources don't have to be FMs. The can be any reliable source: news articles, interviews, books, etc. -- Gogo Dodo (talk) 06:30, 17 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Support operations teams A (SOTAs) are ground-based SIGINT teams that perform electronic support and are organic to the battalion military intelligence detachment. The SOTA mission is to monitor the electromagnetic spectrum in an SO environment to perform SR and to support force protection. This intercept and direction-finding capability gives the ARSOF commander a SIGINT collection asset that is directly responsive to his needs in understanding the operational environment. Mike, thank you for your comments. I do, in fact, go about making the correction improperly.

Most of the page is not cited and is, in fact, created from the author's imagination. I should have requested the page be deleted due to lack of citation instead of correcting the page based on personal experience.

It is offensive to see false information about my profession on Wikipedia, especially since I use it frequently for reference.
