March 2020[edit]

  • If you are connected to someone or something you have written about (a few examples are writing about yourself, your business, your band, a member of your family, your client) then you should be aware that Wikipedia's conflict of interest guideline discourages you from writing about that subject. The main reason for that is that experience over the years indicates that editors with such a connection to a subject they are writing about are likely to find it very difficult, or even impossible, to stand back from their writing and see how it will look from the detached perspective of an outsider, so that they are likely to write in ways that look promotional to others, even if they sincerely think they are writing in a neutral way. You may find it helpful to look at the guideline Wikipedia:Autobiography.
  • Wikipedia is not a web host for holding personal web pages unrelated to work on building the encyclopaedia. You are, of course, welcome to make contributions to the encyclopaedia, in line with Wikipedia policies and guidelines, but if your purpose is to write a personal web page to publicise yourself and your work, then there are many web sites which provide that service, but Wikipedia isn't one of them.
  • Your creating article-like pages as talk pages of nonexistent articles could give the impression that you are trying to evade the restriction on new editors creating articles. Naturally I trust that is not your intention, but you should be careful to avoid doing anything that might give some people the mistaken impression that you are trying to be devious. I think the page may be retained for the following reasons.

1. The author added all recommendations by other editors 2. The page includes plenty of secondary sources including famous news outlets like Times of India, Indian Express, Mathrubhumi and Gulf news.

3. The person is active in the Malayalam film Industry since 2014 in various capacities though he started working on his first film 2016 ( from my research)

4. His latest film Fourth River won several International accolades

5. The only thing I can’t find is his interviews. That I think some film makers may not like to be visible or may have affected by the current pandemic isolations.

In my opinion.and to my research, he is an active filmmaker and he already announced his next movie and working on it. So, even if we delete the page, it may come back later with more references as he is on his next movie. Please keep the page if possible. That’s my suggestion.

One more thing why I request you to retain the page is that Indian-American filmmakers are a minority and keeping the page may help Wikipedia balance representation of filmmakers from all origins. It is my suggestion, and I leave it to your best judgement as an acclaimed editor. Rnair2020 (talk) 09:44, 14 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, thanks for taking part in the AfD for this article. I will address each of your points here:
  1. The fact that you may or may not have acted on the recommendations of other editors is great, but does not make the article subject more notable.
  2. There are some reliable secondary sources cited; that is true. However, as stated in the AfD nomination, those sources discuss this person's films, not the person himself, and therefore they do not make him notable.
  3. How 'active' he is, and for how long, again has no bearing on notability as such.
  4. Not strictly speaking true (there are two listed, not 'several'), they are not particularly major, and in any case awards are not a guarantee of notability.
  5. Interviews aren't what's needed here, in fact they don't count towards notability. We need articles discussing the person in depth.
Your final point regarding his upcoming film, we cannot establish notability based on future events, and there is no guarantee that this person will become notable even after his third, or fourth, or tenth film is out. Best, --DoubleGrazing (talk) 12:26, 14 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks DoubleGazing for your feedback. I fully understand your concern. Though he is an American citizen as per records, most of his works are in the regional language Malayalam. Most of the time articles are written in that language newspapers only. I went through many other biographies filmmakers from the same region I do see many are in Wikipedia with similar profiles. So, I request again to keep the article for six months or a year and watch how others contribute to his profile. For me, I spend enough time on this article and would like to move to other topics in my free time. It’s up to you now. Rnair2020 (talk) 12:39, 14 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
