Mojo-chan - very belatedly saw your posting from last Novemeber about UK control of nuclear weapons. I produced the Newsnight item you referred to. Essentially nuclear weapons states at the end of the Cold War looked at how they could reduce the risk of accidental nuclear war. Jeanne Kirkpatrick - Reagan's UN Ambassador chaired Fail Safe and Risk Reduction Commission in the US. One recommendation was preventing rogue commanders convincing their crews to launch a nuclear war. As a result Trident Coded Control Device was put on each Trident sub which could only allow launch after permissive codeword sent from Chiefs of Staff. Nuclear Posture Review confirmed this and there are eyewitness accounts from US Tridents confirming the existence of TCCD system in place from 1997. I have it on good authority - though not Wikiable - that Russia and France also have similar PAL systems on their subs. We assumed that UK had done the same but MoD - and indeed a Trident commander confirmed to us that as a matter of principle UK does not do this - individual Commander can launch without a code - although of course they insist that Commanders are well-trained and could not possibly convince enough of the crew to go along with them. This late in the process, I'm surprised by much of your recent changes [1].

Proposing something with tagged, disputed content basically has no chance of being accepted, and really shouldn't be proposed in an RfC. [2]

Similarly, proposing content that doesn't have enough context to be included shouldn't be proposed either [3].
