Tibet (again)[edit]

Hi Ran. It's me, Khoikhoi (ex Hottentot). I noticed that some anon (71.141.103.67) added a {{POV}} tag at the top of the Tibet page and left a comment about it on the talk page. It can be found here. You might want to check it out. Another thing you might want to review are the recent edits by 24.90.4.133. [1] I'm not really sure if I should revert some of them or keep the others. Thanks. --Khoikhoi 08:03, 4 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Request for comment: Sarcelles[edit]

This guy simply does not learn. Yes that's right you guessed it, he's back to his old ways of posting up poorly editted prision stubs once again.

Please message me when you get back from your trip because Sarcelles is at it again.

even more:

not surprising one bit at all, all of these prisons are listed on a pro-Falun Gong website. [2]

Why he continues his campaign to push POV articles in favor of the Falun Gong after numberous warnings is beyond me.

Abstrakt 22:10, 6 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

-New additions for January 7, 2006

He has already ignored a request to cease from this behavior of putting poorly editted prison stubs where he draws his information from pro-Falun Gong website http://www.clearwisdom.net

I mean he has done exactly what I predicted he would do after we almost moved in on a RFC last time, he layed low for a couple of monthes and once we were off his back, he went back to his previous behavior as if we never did anything in the first place. With this kind of behavior, he should be banned like he has been on the German, French and Italian wikipedias.

Taiwanese Mandarin[edit]

Sarcelles' recent prison articles[edit]

most of them if not all of them have been nominated for deletion. However there it seems they will be kept with people such as: CalJW who happened to copy and paste this on every one of my nominations

"Keep Wouldn't be deleted if it was in the US or UK so this shouldn't be either. It is probably a much more notable than average prison and the nominator has provided no evidence or arguments to the contrary."

Please notice his use of the word probably in his explaination and rationale for keeping these articles, meaning most likely he did not even bother to check it the articles at all. Also his accusation of me not providing evidence when I provided the links to www.clearwisdom.net and www.clearharmony.net, gives me a feeling that these articles will most likely survive deletion. If only we had an IQ check for those voting on deletions *shakes head*. Abstrakt 21:45, 9 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Chinese prisons by Sarcelles has been created by Miborovsky, however unfortunately inclusionist mob rule has spoken, using the guideline that if the article gets at least a single hit on google albeit from a POV based Falun Gong website, they are voting to "keep". Hey Ran,

Just wondering, I noticed that at Bhutan#Military_and_foreign_affairs, at the sub-section Communist China Invades Bhutan in Late December 2005, is POV. Perhaps you could help out. Thanks. --Khoikhoi 04:20, 11 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Pinyin[edit]

Ran,

Sorry for the mis-edits in the Pinyin page. I believe I still made some improvements to the previous version, but I sure do not want to mislead people. Besides the IPA and -r combinations, looks like I most of what I edited was OK. You want to verify a few others I've been working on? I tried to create similar layout between Pinyin and Zhuyin tables for comparison:

Hu tong[edit]

Hi,

Do you happen to know the pronunciation of "hu tong" in the original language? My teacher in Taiwan was a Beijing native. If I recall correctly, she told us that the characters things like that were written down with and the pronunciations were something else. She said that their name for the small lanes, the spoken pronunciation, was hu2 dur4. The final "r" may be the usual Beijing thing, but it might also replace a consonant ending in the original. Just curious. P0M 15:50, 17 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hey I am looking over the Chinese textbook on Wikibooks and I'm excited about using it. Is it ok if I post to my various "learn chinese" newsgroups that the article is there? Shehezi[edit]

Good job on catching that mistake in the article about the XPCC existing in 1950, apparently another one of Sarcelles inaccuracies. It should of said General Wang Zhen of the People's Liberation Army.

"Dalai Lama's Realm"[edit]

Hi there. I'd like to know more about the term, "Dalai Lama's Realm". I haven't seen this term used before as a substitute for the political status of Tibet before the establishment of the Tibetan Autonomous Region. Could you tell me where this term comes from, and why it is preferred? --Sumple 04:40, 28 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the explanation. I ask because the Dalai Lama was not always the administrative head of government in Tibet, or over all of Tibet. Not that I can think of anything better. Cheers. --Sumple 04:52, 28 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

PRC minority languages[edit]

Stop warning me[edit]

Making corrections or additions to an article is not vandalism, it is actually the purpose and an intention of Wikipedia. So, stop warning me against vandalism, because I am not guilty of it.

The purpose of wikipedia is to allow people to add, contribute, and correct content free of restriction. This, of course, does not mean that people should be free to post false or biased information. In that spirit, I was merely removing unnecessary descriptors which show bias, and adding additional information. The fact that you continue to maintain these biases, and then accuse me of vandalism, shows that you either a.) do not believe in the central concept of wiki, or b.) that you are intentionally using your loose authority for your own purposes, and not for those for which it was meant. Stop sending me messages and stop warning me. Just as you believe you have certain rights to your opinions, I have a right not to be constantly harassed.

South Chinese Sea Islands[edit]

Dear Ran I am looking for the islands in the South Chinese Sea claimed by China. China claimes almost all of them. But many of them are also claimed by the neighbors (Vietnam, Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia, Brunei, Taiwan). Lock at Chinese maps printed in China. There must be severe conficts in the future. Great crude oil resources eare assumed in this area. China is conquering these islands one by one from the north to the south. A huge number of troops are sationed on these islands afer the Chinese conquest. This should be refelcted on the mao of China.

Tibet spelling[edit]

Hi Ran! You've consulted me once on pīnyīn cyrillic transliteration, perhaps you can tell me the correct variant of the TAR name in Tibetan. One version is in the German Wiki - Bod Rang Skyong Lbyongs. The second is in the English Wiki - Bod-rang-skyong-ljongs. Your comments on literal names of Chinese places[edit]

It sounds like you have a lot of very interesting information to contribute about the history and deeper meaning of Chinese place names. It would be great if you could expand on these literal translations of these names and give more of the story behind them.

I think the addition of adoption and orphanage links to these pages is as relevant as information about temples, schools and football clubs. If people have more information on the orphanages to contribute then I expect that they will eventually create dedicated entries for them.

Best regards, Mark

Chinese font tutorials?[edit]

Is there an in-depth Wikipedia tutorial on installing Chinese fonts in Windows XP? I've been looking around Wikimedia and Wikipedia, but can't find anything helpful. This Microsoft link [3] says that WinXP already includes font support, but I wasn't seeing any Chinese fonts. Sadly..[edit]

It ended up like this again - [4] :-( Instantnood 17:49, 13 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I do lay low. But what happened was that user:SchmuckyTheCat sparks new fire periodically, last round started with Guangshen Railway (talk · history · watch), and now, the umbrella nomination. — Instantnood 19:29, 13 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
It got closed in this way, finally.. [5] Apparently two of the three (except user:SchmuckyTheCat who made the nomination) who voted for user:Syrthiss' proposal was not familiar with what the term mainland China actually means (see [6], [7] and [8], [9]) and one of them did agree to leave the matter to others to decide. The remaining editor declined to reveal her/his rationale [10]. Even worse was that the nomination was declared "unresolved" when the result was 2 to 1. The sysop who did so " loathe[d] to WP:IAR " and extended the discussion by two days... Then, with the new round of vote in these couple of days, the original decision was overturned. It was, like the spelling of Macau/o [11] and many other occassions that everyone can name a handful, a situation that demonstrates the failure of the decision making mechanism on Wikipedia to fulfill the most basic requirements of an encyclopædia. If this problem is not properly addressed, I'd say Wikipedia is no longer a source that can be trusted. — Instantnood 19:45, 14 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I'd like to hear your suggestion on how the matter should be reconsidered. Thanks. — Instantnood 10:18, 25 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
First, the original decision was turned over by a sysop who " loathe[d] to IAR ", when the result was 2 for keeping versus 1 for deletion. Second, the deletions were decided by people who've demonstrated they're far from familiar with the matter. How could Wikipedia have worked in this way? Isn't it a failure of the decision making mechanism? — Instantnood 02:00, 26 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Is it necessary to have the "decision" overturned? Is it good to do so? And how should it be done? — Instantnood 15:05, 1 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
That's very true.. but I still believe neutrality remains non-negotiable on Wikipedia. That's foundation to the success of Wikipedia. — Instantnood 14:17, 8 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Scope of the statistics[edit]

Regarding this edit [13] - I've looked at the link provided in the article. It's never surprising for mainland authorities to say the information, figures or statistics are 全国, while such information does not cover the area under ROC control and the special administrative regions. Shall we assume 全国 to be meaning China, national, nationwide or statewide when using such information on Wikipedia? — Instantnood 17:25, 22 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Two questions. What I said above was seeking your opinion regarding how 全国 should be dealt with when we're employing such information on Wikipedia. As for YP, I'd say not specifying it's mainland creates ambiguity - people who don't know YP doesn't exist in the special administrative regions can't tell what the figure is about. — Instantnood 18:21, 22 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. The matter is two layers. If the material is entirely or almost entirely taken from an external source, the material should be kept much as possible. Or else, in my opinion, we should be taking Wikipedia guidelines and the need of the readers into consideration, as well as the way the information is presented in the articles. — Instantnood 10:09, 25 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

"Grammar" edits[edit]

Your grammar edits contain several mistakes, and it is obvious your English is not native. Please separate your content edits from your formatting edits from your "grammar" edits. Thanks.--Moveapage 20:52, 27 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Ahem. You obviously didn't look at my edits. I did make corrections to your incorrect grammar edits. And it's not a simple revert; the way it is written now recognizes that China does not recognize Taiwan as a nation. You on the other hand are just reverting.--Moveapage 21:15, 27 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Lingual is an English word. I would prefer language differences. Linguistic is confusing as it often has to do with the study of language (linguistics) rather than language itself. I wholesaled once but made sure to make other edits that were both along your lines (grammar edits, but ones I thought were correct), as well as the recognition of China's POV. You made no response, no comment, and made whole reverts. I did not.--Moveapage 21:43, 27 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Erdini Qoigyijabu[edit]

By the way, I left a note on Talk:Erdini Qoigyijabu that this article might be misnamed (I don't think "Erdini" is part of the name). I thought you might be able to shed some light on the situation, since you wrote the original version. - Nat Krause(Talk!) 22:01, 16 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
