Count up

Less than two and a half days to go and all is well. Off2riorob (talk) 19:03, 25 January 2010 (UTC)

You're kidding — surely it's only been one (very-long) day since the block. :-) Proofreader77 (interact) 19:35, 25 January 2010 (UTC)
What does Off2rio mean by "and all is well"? ABF that could have negative connotations and as an endosement of the status quo. But knowing what a decent fellow he is I understand it to be encouraging. :) I look forward to your being "Free at last". ChildofMidnight (talk) 21:30, 25 January 2010 (UTC)
Speaking of "free at last" ... FYI: SUNDANCE FILM FESTIVAL (Documentary) - FREEDOM RIDERS - Stanley Nelson’s film re 1961 civil-rights activists. [1]-- Proofreader77 (interact) 21:36, 25 January 2010 (UTC)
All is well, Proof is here talking to me and CoM and there appears to be no problems, imo even if he was free to edit other pages, he could not be more involved than he is now.. Off2riorob (talk) 22:56, 25 January 2010 (UTC)
Hear hear! :-) Proofreader77 (interact) 23:07, 25 January 2010 (UTC)
Glad to see you are almost back with us. Good thing you didn't donate more money, you might have been blocked for a month. Trusilver 00:28, 27 January 2010 (UTC)
Thanks, Trusilver. Interesting you should bring up "more money." Just consider that the 1st of my 3 recent blocks ... was triggered by me talking about getting my bank to donate $1 million. Surely the category "banned for all eternity" would have been created if I had hadn't been blocked and undone. (You think I'm kidding, don't you? Nope. LoL) Proofreader77 (interact) 00:59, 27 January 2010 (UTC)
Ha ha, Proof, hilarious, ask Trusilver to unblock you, you have had enough cake. Off2riorob (talk) 01:38, 27 January 2010 (UTC)
Oh no, Off2, I'm enjoying the cake! LoL (And happily working on ArbCom logo. :-) Proofreader77 (interact) 01:49, 27 January 2010 (UTC)

Length

How long are sonnets supposed to be? Are they part of epics? ChildofMidnight (talk) 21:27, 25 January 2010 (UTC)

14 lines per sonnet ... But there exist sonnet sequences (several sonnets written to go together in series, AND there are even novels in sonnets) ... And yes, although it is not usually how people think of them, you can imagine a sonnet sequence being an epic (of sorts).

For an idea of how that would work ... check out the first link in my sonnet series pudding-girl {zero}

(And if you want to practice writing your own, I wrote an online program to verify Shakespearean sonnet form. Click the license plate at one of sites artistofideas.com. But if you do, let me know... I've been lazy about updating the vocabulary dictionary etc ... And the monkey-bot surely needs more bananas.:-) -- Proofreader77 (interact) 21:43, 25 January 2010 (UTC)

Interesting. They can also be part of plays? I'm eager for more of your storytelling. Is there progress on the Western? Epic accounts of Wikipedia odysseys? ChildofMidnight (talk) 22:47, 25 January 2010 (UTC)
  1. Storytelling - Delighted by your interest. Thank you.

  2. re Sonnets as part of plays?
Note that Romeo and Juliet begins with a sonnet ... and see the sonnet Romeo and Juliet speak together in their flirting (I think there is more).
  3. re Wikipedia Western (musical) ... Consider all that is happening as "flavoring" for the chili. :-) Note, this is a long-stewing chili .. which will be very tasty when served.
  4. PS ... Do you see the little line codes beside each line of "Midnight Comes" sonnet? Notice the first number is "001" ... That is in case there are, um, like 153 or so more sonnets about Child of Midnight. Perhaps the epic tale of ChildofMidnight! (Perhaps you will write it.)
-- Proofreader77 (interact) 23:05, 25 January 2010 (UTC)
Please be mindful that featuring in art works is very likely to increase my vanity and pig-headedness beyond exising monumental proportions. Please don't undermine my efforts to remain humble! Also, I'm uncomfortable playing a lead and I'd be much happier to be cast in a supporting role, perhaps as a misguided agitator who doesn't "make it" to the end of the storyline? ChildofMidnight (talk) 21:23, 26 January 2010 (UTC)
I will leave sonnets CoM.#002-154 to you, then. Proofreader77 (interact) 21:34, 26 January 2010 (UTC)

notes re (the mostly unreferenced) Sonnet article

  • "Lyric poetry" is not the general case. The form of the sonnet is rhetorical. (But clearly more to say about that ... which would be more appropriately said with cited sources. Of course. Proofreader77 (interact) 02:10, 26 January 2010 (UTC)

What is your involvement with this article subject? ChildofMidnight (talk) 21:23, 26 January 2010 (UTC)

Never mind. Reading the article I see the company's approach to "mind reading" is fairly conventional. ChildofMidnight (talk) 21:27, 26 January 2010 (UTC)
(edit conflict) None that I know of, but I will check with MI5 [someone who might know] to see if one of my lookalikes has some connection. :-) Proofreader77 (interact) 21:32, 26 January 2010 (UTC)

Lifted, cool

Hi Proof, congratulations on the lifting of the restrictions . I am grateful for your tweaking on my talkpage, are you any good with archives, I have been attempting to alter mine, it is almost correct but when I press show I still don't see all my archives but they are there..as a model I have been attempting to set up the same situation as Jimbo has on his talkpage, it you have time have a look and see if I can improve just a little, that red link seems incorrect or perhaps I can not combine all my archives from my old bot to my new bot? At least I didn't blow them up..Off2riorob (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 16:49, 27 December 2009.

Thanks, Off2riorob. ... About archives, I have to add the links manually myself, so I clearly haven't solved the problem yet. But I can add yours manually, too. NOTE: My problem had to do with manually coding in underscore, I think. The bot should be smart enough to do this by itself ... .BUT I do see that at ANI etc and elsewhere, people have put in redlinks ahead of the bot, so perhaps we're not the only ones confused. :-) Proofreader77 (interact) —Preceding undated comment added 02:45, 28 December 2009.

Where is the cake?

If I was an admin, I would unblock you now, you have been good all week and there is no imminent threat to the wiki at all. Off2riorob (talk) 00:41, 28 January 2010 (UTC)

They cannot release me until Obama announces my pardon tonight. :-) Michelle is sending over cake (according to MI5 assets in Washington. :-) Proofreader77 (interact) 01:29, 28 January 2010 (UTC)

The cake is cooked, the pardon is ready, the world is spinning around, that is important to keep in mind, that you are revolving, you are looking at a tree and that tree is fixed in front of your eyes, but the earth beneath your feet is spinning right round baby baby, right round . We are talking to the taliban, Hamid Karzai is in London .. cake is on the way, double entendre .. Gordon Brown anyone that clings to violence will be crushed. Off2riorob (talk) 01:43, 28 January 2010 (UTC)

I say free Proofreader77. If I could I would buy you guys a (Aussie) beer. On a other note, do you guys ever sleep? Cheers! Sir Floyd (talk) 01:54, 28 January 2010 (UTC)
Hi amigo Floyd, the beer keeps us awake, pass the tinnie, whats it called that beer Victoria Bitter in bottles? Off2riorob (talk) 01:59, 28 January 2010 (UTC)
(edit conflict)Excuse delays in response, trying to fix a DDL error ... without installing a sneaky virus.

Sleep? RIO-ops don't need sleep ... as long as there is beer! ... Ah, the Cabinet has arrived ... Michelle is sitting pretty ... Gordon Brown is not there. :-)

Victoria Bitter is Ok. So what's new? How big is this cake? So many questions. Hmmm! Remember sleep is important. Sir Floyd (talk) 02:11, 28 January 2010 (UTC)
You don't need sleep when you have good cake. There is a bill on my desk and the senate has approved the cake, how long should America wait? I do not accept second helpings for America, reforms have been passed , if the cake that lands on my desk is not the biggest and tastiest cake then I will sent it back until they get it right. Off2riorob (talk) 02:35, 28 January 2010 (UTC)

Who or what is inside the cake? Proof is back amongst the "living"? Thank goodness. The Wikipedia:Petition against kitten abuse needs decisive input to help establish a clear consensus. ChildofMidnight (talk) 05:17, 28 January 2010 (UTC)

I'm sorry Off2. I have just been informed that I am an asshole. The reference is to Portal, a game enjoyed by physics geeks, one of whom I bore into this world. The cake of course is real enough (I am eating it^;^), and the expired block ...

Many thanks to all for dropping by to celebrate my non-un-blocking, beer-drinking, cake-eating night of Obamarama. ^;^ Proofreader77 (interact) 05:55, 28 January 2010 (UTC)

Excellent! Just be sure it's banned for the right reason. Banned for COI promotion of eating baby kangaroos is not a good idea, for example. :-) Proofreader77 (interact) 00:57, 1 February 2010 (UTC)

Sociality

Discussion on "civility" deleted elsewhere as "unhelpful" :-)

(copied from this talk)

The "civility" bullshit shall be squished

Squashed? :-) Trust me — I'm an expert on this crap. Stay tuned for my "tax code" version of civility policy — which will cover the abuse of, so-called "civility" policy for purposes of online bullying. etc -- Proofreader77 (interact) 04:16, 30 January 2010 (UTC)

Civility is not "bullshit," though I enthusiastically agree that the policy is misused. Short Brigade Harvester Boris (talk) 10:30, 30 January 2010 (UTC)

Darn tootin. :-)(Note, I spread smilies around like a stepped-in cowpie, so I think we're safe. LoL)

By the way, pardner, right chere's a little true-life tale from the Los Angeles Book Festival a few yars back:

Yes, once upon a time, I was a-waitin' in line for an event ... and got into a discussion about "civil discourse" with a lady from across the pond there in Great Britain ... and I, bein' my usual stupid American self was saying something positive about civility — but the lady from the UK called bullshit on that dumbass idea ... saying that busy workin' people don't cotton to prissy civil discourse, but rather much enjoy watching some whoop-ass rhetorical combat with mockery and name-calling of the clever sort ... Not prissy-clever, but of the raw-meat kind. (Note, there might be a touch of hyperbole in the preceding, but not much.)

Bottom line: Americans jest ain't got no rhetorical competence (and no, Obama don't neither, just sorta analytical/motivational like), so they demand niceness. Well, fuck that. They'll just have to be rhetorisized. (Workin' on it.:)

(noting) BLPN archiving #78

Resolved
 – Link corrected
  1. User talk:Jimbo Wales libelous characterization of Roman Polanski
  2. Removing
  3. First moved to #79 then to #78 with changed title: Roman Polanski

(Noting should this issue need finding in the archive) -- Proofreader77 (interact) 00:56, 6 February 2010 (UTC)

Yes, my apologies. I changed it whilst archiving the thread and I should not have done that, I did it as I thought the title gave the impression that Jimbo Wales had libelously done something which he had not. I should have done it whilst the thread was active or not done it at all, so I have replaced it, sorry. Off2riorob (talk) 23:05, 6 February 2010 (UTC)
