Thank you for your participation in the April 2010 GAN backlog elimination drive

GAN backlog elimination drives chart up to 1 May

On behalf of my co-coordinator Wizardman, I'd like to especially thank you for your efforts over this past month's GAN backlog elimination drive. It has been nothing short of a complete success, which hopefully results in more expedient good article reviews, increasing users' confidence in the good article nomination processes. Even if you made just a small contribution, it still helped contribute to the success of this drive. Here is what we have accomplished this last month in this drive.

  • 661 total nominations were reviewed. 541 of them passed (~81.8%), 97 (~14.7%) failed, and 23 (~3.5%) ended on hold.
  • The WP:GAN page started at 110,126 bytes length on 1 April and ended at 43,387 bytes length at the end of 30 April (a 66,739 byte reduction in the page, about 60.6% less).
  • Excluding extremes, the longest wait for someone's GAN to be review was about 11.5 weeks at the beginning. (I mistook the figure when I reported to the Signpost that it was 13.) At the end, with the exception of one that was relisted, the longest wait is now at 10 days.
  • 63 different users participated, each having completed at least one GAN, with others also having helped out behind-the-scenes in making the drive a success.
  • The drive started with 463 GA nominations remaining and 388 unreviewed. At the end of the month, we ended with 89 remaining (374 or about 80.8% less) and 47 unreviewed (341 or about 87.9% less).

For those who have accomplished certain objectives in the drive, awards will be coming shortly. Again, thank you for your help in the drive, and I hope you continue to help review GA nominations and overall improve the quality of articles here on Wikipedia.

Your contribution on my problem - the article is written like an advertisement

Hello PrincessofLlyr royal court, many thanks for your advice. I will do my best to find other sources than these from the company homepage. Could you remove the tag to the article`s talk page or one of them? I think, it is enough if the tags are placed on the talk page. What is your opinion? I am looking for new neutral references right now, I hope it is help. Thank you for your suggestions. --Halinal (talk) 10:18, 23 April 2010 (UTC)

Hello, I have already added some new sources. I hope thia will improve article quality. best regards --Halinal (talk) 11:56, 23 April 2010 (UTC)

Well no, the tags need to stay until the problems are corrected. I will take a look at the article this weekend and try to help with rewriting it. PrincessofLlyr royal court 13:03, 23 April 2010 (UTC)
Okay, I did a Google News search for "KUKA Systems" and there appear to be plenty of third-party sources available. Try to use those to replace the ones from the KUKA Systems website. PrincessofLlyr royal court 13:25, 23 April 2010 (UTC)

Thank you for your help :-) I will absolutely use the Google News search.I wish you a nice weekend. --Halinal (talk) 14:20, 23 April 2010 (UTC)

Regarding the tags: they are deliberately placed on the article's page rather than the talkpage per normal Wikipedia practice --Jubileeclipman 20:21, 23 April 2010 (UTC)

Ok, I understand. I hope the new 3rd party sources, which I am looking for, will improve article quality. Thank you. --Halinal (talk) 20:47, 25 April 2010 (UTC)

Hello PrincessofLlyr, I added a lot of new 3rd party sources. It is that ok? It is enough to accept the articel? kind regards --Halinal (talk) 11:18, 27 April 2010 (UTC)

Those references are much better. I have removed the tags about references. I will try to go through and improve some of the other issues. PrincessofLlyr royal court 13:39, 27 April 2010 (UTC)

Thank you very much!! I really appreciate it. kind regards --Halinal (talk) 14:31, 27 April 2010 (UTC)

Hello PrincessofLlyr, what do you think about the tags? is the article now good enough to remove the tags from the article site? thanks for your answer in anticipation. --Halinal (talk) 22:11, 2 May 2010 (UTC)

I'm back (sort of)

  • Good News y'all! - I can use my dongle at my mum's!!! The connection is unreliable and only on G rather than 3G. I only get one or two bars at best, too. Enough to help me stay in touch and watch things from a distance, however. Dial-up would be more reliable (and possible quicker) but it would cost a bomb via Pay-as-you-go and it isn't worth getting a contract for a single month. Anyway, once I return properly, I'll to be able to do as much as I used to, I would suspect, since my dad is my main priority, of course. Anyway, thanks for your kind words, everyone, and I'll stay I touch --Jubileeclipman 17:31, 30 April 2010 (UTC)
Awesome!!!! Out of curiosity, that second-to-last sentence, I assume you mean you won't be able to do as much...since you dad's the main priority? Anyway, terrific that you'll still be around! PrincessofLlyr royal court 20:50, 30 April 2010 (UTC)
LOL! I'm always doing that but usually catch the missed "not" or "n't" before going live. Read: I'll not to be able to do as much as I used to... BTW, the connection drops if a cloud appears and it takes ages for pages to draw so I would expect me to be around much until I either get a decent signal or get a cable broadband connection set up. [SEE? ] I'll have to think of a way to update my status from {{No-Internet}} to {{Rubbish-Internet}} or some such so I don't confuse any one who looks at my contribution history. Any ideas? --Jubileeclipman 21:19, 30 April 2010 (UTC)
You could use {{busy}}, with a custom message. Airplaneman 21:24, 30 April 2010 (UTC)
Ah. Good call! Forgot about that. And it's actually true: I am busy in real life... Thanks Aeroplaneman --Jubileeclipman 21:29, 30 April 2010 (UTC)
Do my userpage and talkpage make more sense, now? I can just remove the msg when the connection problem is resolved, indeed, leaving the rest permanently. Thanks again, M. l'Aviateur! --Jubileeclipman 22:25, 30 April 2010 (UTC)
Yes, much better! Like the nicknames :) Airplaneman
Pages look fine, dividing into new section no problem, and your penchant for nicknames very entertaining! I have come to think that your username, particularly the "jubilee" part, fits you very well! PrincessofLlyr royal court 23:04, 30 April 2010 (UTC)
Thanks, [your præferred plural form of address here]. BTW, editing is a nightmare with this connection, especially because the connection keeps dropping... I'll be severely limited but will continue to keep in touch (and to poke fun at you all, as usual) --Jubileeclipman 23:37, 30 April 2010 (UTC)

Since tps's are supposed to be useful, would you guys take a look at this article I've been working on improving it slowly. Currently there is a tag that she might not be notable. I'm pretty thoroughly convinced that she is, but would like an unbiased opinion (or three). If the given sources don't seem to be enough, try a Google search too, please. Thanks! PrincessofLlyr royal court 23:42, 30 April 2010 (UTC)

How are we "unbiased"?! But yes: I'll have look through when I get a chance. It'll go on my to-do list --Jubileeclipman 23:49, 30 April 2010 (UTC)
Well, you should be unbiased. I should be unbiased - I'd never heard of the woman until I ran across the article NPP-ing. It just looked like maybe it could be cleaned up if it wasn't tagged by some overzealous NPP-er, so I did a little work, and now it's an "I worked on this article and want it to be good" thing. So I'm not really unbiased, because I'm inclusionist at heart. Please don't be hesitant to tell me the article is awful. It won't hurt my feelings, I promise! PrincessofLlyr royal court 23:53, 30 April 2010 (UTC)
WP:BEANS... --Jubileeclipman 23:58, 30 April 2010 (UTC)
Jubilee, have you been reading wiktionary or something? Glad you're back (sort of at least). Anyways, the person seems somewhat notable. I really don't know, since I'm not completely experienced with WP:NOTABILITY yet. Brambleclawx 00:10, 1 May 2010 (UTC)
Seems notable - good work! I made some tweaks and removed the tag. Could always do with more info, sources, infobox, birthdate, personal life, etc... Airplaneman 00:18, 1 May 2010 (UTC)
Wonderful! Thanks for the helpful comments - I've not done much work on people articles. I will continue to work on it. PrincessofLlyr royal court 00:36, 1 May 2010 (UTC)
People articles are hard, especially BLPs. I have worked on quite a number, though, and am getting more of an idea of the requirememt. Anyway, it looks like she passes WP:PROF fairly well, specifically #4 and possibly also #1 (if her works are highly cited) and #6 (if her appointments are of the highest level). The incredibly useful Notes and examples section at WP:PROF should help you decide further, though --Jubileeclipman 00:43, 1 May 2010 (UTC)
Thanks for that link, although the originally botched one had me a bit bemused! Good catch on the sig, too! PrincessofLlyr royal court 00:46, 1 May 2010 (UTC)
The Signpost has caught my attention (there's some pretty useful stuff in there). But this (I do believe we're all old enough here to handle reading the page without freaking out) caught my attention. Brambleclawx 00:48, 1 May 2010 (UTC)
Oh yes, I have been following that. Not quite sure my opinion yet. Still stuck somewhere between "that's probably illegal and shouldn't be done" and "well, WP is not censored". Somewhat leaning toward the first. Interesting though, for sure. PrincessofLlyr royal court 00:51, 1 May 2010 (UTC)
I believe some user retired due to that. My opinion is sort of "well, it probably shouldn't be there, but since Wikipedia isn't censored, that's not a big problem, unless, of course, the non-censored-ness is illegal." Brambleclawx 00:55, 1 May 2010 (UTC)

This caught my attention after I spotted an ANI thread about Lolicon. The issue is different but the matter is the same. The talkpage is being watched by ArbCom and is already huge. Coincidence...? --Jubileeclipman 01:38, 1 May 2010 (UTC)

Hard to say. I'd actually taken a look at that (I saw you comment on it) and wondered if they were related. With the original accusation, my cynical side can't help but wonder if it's not another of Sanger's attention grabbing tactics....-PrincessofLlyr royal court 01:42, 1 May 2010 (UTC)
Quite possible. There are a number of suspicious things about the whole incident, actually but I won't say more... --Jubileeclipman 01:50, 1 May 2010 (UTC)

Extremely high level of vandalism right now (Friday night...) Airplaneman 03:14, 1 May 2010 (UTC)

Yeah, I noticed that. BCx, I was reverting vandalism manually (different computer, no Huggle installed) and that's quite the feat. There were a bunch of times I would go to save an edit only to find that someone had gotten to it before me. @Jubilee, about the whole pedophile argument, I just read through that whole discussion, and I don't really think there's any right answer. Do I want pedophiles running around WP freely? Most certainly not. That's kind of scary, actually. But I understand how people argue that "anyone can edit". On top of that, (and someone brought this up in discussion) what about the people who don't identify as pedophiles? Honestly, there's not a lot that can be done about that. No one here is God, not even Jimbo, so things might be missed. However, I think Arbcom is justified in doing what they can, i.e. blocking pedophiles. Anyway, about the news coverage of Sanger's allegation, people are worried about the fact that children in a lot of schools are allowed uncensored access to WP. That's not our concern, honestly. It's sad, of course, if a kid runs across something they shouldn't, but nothing says this site has to be "safe" for children. However, if the images are actually illegal, I think they should not be allowed. And while I can understand the arguments that the (not)policy is discrimination against pedophiles, some things are wrong, discrimination be hanged. Anyway, rant over. Sorry if I offended anyone. PrincessofLlyr royal court 14:32, 1 May 2010 (UTC)
No offence: that's what I was attempting to say, really, though never quite put it succinctly as that. Anyway, all illegal images of whatever nature are covered by Florida Law: if thay are illegal in that state, they must not be on the servers. Ditto illegal statements, I guess. Never thought of that, till now. Also, fighting vandalism with Huggle is still difficult so you still deserve your Barnstar!! --Jubileeclipman 15:28, 1 May 2010 (UTC)
And I thought I was being wordy there! Really, the WP community doesn't decide the answer to this, although our feelings should probably be taken into account. If WMF (or Arbcom, Jimbo, etc.) doesn't want to be blamed if something bad happens (particularly in relation to pedophilia) and chooses their actions based on that, it is their prerogative. Block pedophiles on site, sure. Delete images that might be illegal, fine. Whatever has to be done to keep things legal and fairly safe. Sanger, I just read over his talk page and the guy definitely has a chip on his shoulder that should be dropped. PrincessofLlyr royal court 16:56, 1 May 2010 (UTC)
Well, hope you all managed to deal with the extra vandalism ok. I think the real question is whether the images can be counted as legal. That's really it. If not, they may as well delete it. Brambleclawx 17:13, 1 May 2010 (UTC)

Useful talk page stalkers! BCx, now maybe you understand why I was asking for help on Union of Upper Silesians. So, another opinion question. User:Halinal wants to know if the tags can come off KUKA Systems. I think the advert tag should be left, not so sure about wikify tag. Opinions? Oh, and see below - I got thanked by a sock. I do not understand sockmasters, much like I don't get vandals, and trolls, and... -PrincessofLlyr royal court 22:59, 3 May 2010 (UTC)

I believe Wikify can come off, since there's not much wikification that's left. I think though, that it needs to be converted to prose, rather than having a whole bunch of sections in point form. For example, the history section could be rewritten in prose. And yes, socks can be a little hard to understand, especially when sockmasters seem to have no good reason to be sockpuppeting. On a side note, I was answering questions on Yahoo Answers, and someone asked why wikipedia has a list of banned users. They think that it goes against WP:DENY. What do you think? Brambleclawx 23:05, 3 May 2010 (UTC)
...and TPS's? Re, "thanked by a sock": that's part of the game. They like being more than one person and confusing the heck out of everyone, I guess. Or they get blocked, create another account or three and thus continue whatever behaviour they were blocked for (now using multiple accounts to back each other up eg in debate) while trying to "win friends and influence people". Or... [etc etc] The funniest thing is to see a sock arguing with its alter egos! That's something else... --Jubileeclipman 23:19, 3 May 2010 (UTC)
Wait a minute... I don't see the evidence against Emily Jensen, at all, over at WP:SPI. I searched her name, checked the archives, everything I could think of: she just got blocked without question. WP:DUCK, I guess... --Jubileeclipman 23:41, 3 May 2010 (UTC)
Yes, I noticed that too, but "her" editing style is almost identical to his other socks, I'm guessing that WP:DUCK applied. About Yahoo and banned users, I don't really have an answer for that, except that having such a list could be a useful reference, especially when you consider that a ban does not literally stop a user from editing a page. So in this case, if there's a list, you can say, "Oh, I though User:X was restricted from editing article Y. Let's see..." and find out. That's my guess, at least. PrincessofLlyr royal court 00:10, 4 May 2010 (UTC)
WP:DUCK, huh? Never seen that one before. I guess so. Of course, it probably would have been best to get a checkuser check done. Brambleclawx 00:15, 4 May 2010 (UTC)
Quite so... but I have seen the page invoked many times in SPI's, so I guess it's sort of common currency over there now. Regarding WP:BANned users: it's probably a bit late to WP:DENY their existence since banning is a pretty extreme measure taken against an especially notorious (infamous?) editor. Anyway, the list probably helps in SPI's and the like, coincidently --Jubileeclipman 00:29, 4 May 2010 (UTC)
And I was about to sign that for you. I really haven't ventured much into areas like SPI, RFC, and that stuff yet. Brambleclawx 00:31, 4 May 2010 (UTC)

Aha!

Accounts which are reincarnations (sockpuppets) of banned users may be blocked as soon as it's obvious who they are; bans apply to the person and not the account.

Wikipedia:List of banned users

That answers both questions in one fell swoop, I guess... --Jubileeclipman 00:44, 4 May 2010 (UTC)

Nice find! Brambleclawx 00:53, 4 May 2010 (UTC)
Good point Jubilee! I know I'm semi-active this month, so I'm not adding my name to the list of participants, but if anyone's interested, this looked cool:GOCE backlog elimination drive. Also, there is a Guide to reviving inactive WikiProjects. Most of the points we've already brought up here, but I thought I'd share the link anyway. I've been busy exploring this morning! PrincessofLlyr royal court 14:05, 4 May 2010 (UTC)
That new link on your user page doesn't work. Brambleclawx 20:38, 4 May 2010 (UTC)
Thanks for telling me. That's probably because it got deleted. Anybody know how to link to deleted pages? The user had created a page with just the {{hangon}} tag. PrincessofLlyr royal court 20:41, 4 May 2010 (UTC)
Linking to deleted pages should be the same as linking to any other page; the link will just be red instead of blue. Airplaneman 20:43, 4 May 2010 (UTC)
Don't think it'll work. It is deleted afterall. Brambleclawx 20:44, 4 May 2010 (UTC)
Oh well. I don't think you can link to them. It was funny when I saw it! PrincessofLlyr royal court 20:47, 4 May 2010 (UTC)
Well, at least we can imagine it. Brambleclawx 20:57, 4 May 2010 (UTC)
Well, I created Eucerin when I was a newbie. Successfully linked! Airplaneman 21:35, 4 May 2010 (UTC)
Or if you're talking deleted content, then no, only admins may view that. Airplaneman 21:36, 4 May 2010 (UTC)
There's always WP:Deletion review if a case can be made to restore the page. The fact the link goes to a page that says The requested page or revision cannot be found is pretty funny in itself though! --Jubileeclipman 22:13, 4 May 2010 (UTC)
What was Eucerin about? Brambleclawx 23:14, 4 May 2010 (UTC) Add Opinions on whether a "Clan terms" section is needed? (ie, Thunderpath means road, mousebrained, "and hedgehogs might fly", twoleg, etc.). Brambleclawx 23:18, 4 May 2010 (UTC)

Talk about tangents!!! Wha...? Warriors, presumeably? --Jubileeclipman 23:29, 4 May 2010 (UTC)

Yes. Nice. I didn't know that outdent could be shortened to od. Brambleclawx 23:31, 4 May 2010 (UTC)
od that... --Jubileeclipman 23:36, 4 May 2010 (UTC)
@Brambleclawx: Eucerin was about this, lol :D. I wanted to write an article, any article at all, so I looked around my house... Airplaneman 00:06, 5 May 2010 (UTC)
Clan terms *thinking, thinking* honestly, I have no idea. That seems a bit fancrufty to me. There is no reason to restore the deleted page, so I suppose I'll remove the link. I wasn't thinking about that when I added it. What do you guys think about placing {{British English}} on the talk page of Union of Upper Silesians? BTW, thanks, you guys have helped out there greatly! <RL tangent ahead> Oh, and I'm happy because I just did way better in a speaking competition than I was expecting! That's a huge relief! PrincessofLlyr royal court 00:35, 5 May 2010 (UTC)
The fancruftiness is the only thing I'm worried about there. The British tag sounds like a good idea. As for the competition, good job! I myself am terrible at speaking competitions (not that I'm inarticulate or anything like that) Brambleclawx 00:41, 5 May 2010 (UTC)
I'll place the British English tag. I, as well, am not the best orator; I'm a better writer ;). Airplaneman 00:56, 5 May 2010 (UTC)
Um... maybe you didn't see it, but I would like your opinion on the warriors page, airplaneman... Brambleclawx 01:02, 5 May 2010 (UTC)
I didn't. Sorry! Will look now. Airplaneman 01:34, 5 May 2010 (UTC)

File:WMFstratplanSurvey1.png looks interesting. Brambleclawx 02:16, 5 May 2010 (UTC)

Interesting! I have noticed the mostly-male trend, as well as the younger users trend... I can understand the latter (more tech-savvy overall), but the former stat leaves me puzzled... Any ideas? About Warriors - that's a hard call. I would say no. That's what Warriors Wiki is for. If they need to be used, use them sparingly to avoid in-universe writing and make sure to define them. That's my take on it. Airplaneman 02:57, 5 May 2010 (UTC)
You know what, our little group here is almost better than a WikiProject, except we're not to limited to which articles we edit nor how we edit: we just throw stuff out there and see what the others think! Great! Regarding the Warriors stuff, obviously I wouldn't have a clue (never read the books) but if the info is important to help contextualise other info then it should be there. E.g. it might be important to know which clan a Warrior belongs to or why a certain Warrior is called such-and-such etc. Otherwise it probably is fancruft as the Princess says or perhaps too in-universe as the Aviator says. Regarding the Union of Upper Silesians page, it still needs a lot of work: there are numerous obscure statements (last sentence in the lead), many grammar also that bad in bits, speling tat neds corecting ect. I'll get back over there later. Good job by JosefKożdon, though, nonetheless. I guess that it is within the scope of WikiProjects History, Germany, and Poland, so I added their banners to the talkpage. Might cause them to wander over at some point. Sorry about my awful joke, BTW, Cat! --Jubileeclipman 13:27, 5 May 2010 (UTC)
Er... I don't recall a joke... Brambleclawx 22:05, 5 May 2010 (UTC)
"I didn't know that outdent could be shortened to od." "od that..." Thanks again for catching my vandalism of my own page, BTW! It is actually nice to know that people are watching out for changes on each other's userpages. It was funny, though! --Jubileeclipman 22:54, 5 May 2010 (UTC)
Ok... its fine. I like watching for user page vandalism, the kind I find most annoying. Brambleclawx 23:38, 5 May 2010 (UTC)
Hey guys, I'm on vacation for the next few days. Could you keep an eye on my adoptees, please? Neither of them has done anything recently, so it shouldn't be that hard. I'll probably poke them when I get back, not that it's likely to help, but it will at least show interest. Anyway, have fun while I'm gone. Aviator, the roll call looks fine. I plan to still stay active. Don't worry about the sequel, I'll do a little searching when I come back and see if there's anything worthwhile out there. @All - Happy editing! PrincessofLlyr royal court 02:21, 6 May 2010 (UTC)

OK, have a nice vacation! Airplaneman 02:57, 6 May 2010 (UTC)

OK. I'll watchlist their pages and see what I can do. Happy holidays! --Jubileeclipman 12:50, 6 May 2010 (UTC)
OK, have fun. I'll watch your adoptees very closely. Brambleclawx 23:18, 6 May 2010 (UTC)

Thanks, guys! I'm back. Not going to do much of anything tomorrow, but should be back some after that. Of course, there's this wedding coming up this weekend, so I may not be on a lot this week at all. We'll see. Everything seems to have gone pretty smoothly in my absence. Nice to see that WP can function without me! In comment about a discussion on the Aviator's page, I have watchlistitis. I check after every edit. I think they should employ the notification used on Simple. It would be so useful. Hmm, I wonder if that's been suggested. PrincessofLlyr royal court 02:40, 9 May 2010 (UTC)

Maybe a script could be made for that, like J.delanoy's npp script! As for mono retiring - he'll be back :). Airplaneman 02:45, 9 May 2010 (UTC)
I feel like I just bit somebody. (see User talk:Brambleclawx#Thanks). Brambleclawx 14:53, 9 May 2010 (UTC)
Hey, stick to your reasoning and explain why (as you have done). Stuff will happen, and you can't help the response you will sometimes get. If you removed it and explained why, then that's not biting. If you removed it without an edit summary or a message, that's a different matter. Looks like you were called a name too... Airplaneman 16:20, 9 May 2010 (UTC)
Sounds like good advice. I just hope the user hasn't retired or anything. On a completely seperate (probably not related-to-Wikipedia) note, I was answering on Yahoo Answers and found someone who was... let's say... pretty weird. Brambleclawx 16:48, 9 May 2010 (UTC)
(edit conflict)Anyway, you have hardly BITten this editor given they they have been around since 2007 (and even if they have only made just over 1000 edits): just a bear with a sore head, IMO. I've started discussion over at 1812 overture, BTW --Jubileeclipman 16:51, 9 May 2010 (UTC)
Yes, I saw Brambleclawx 16:53, 9 May 2010 (UTC)
Oh... welcome back Princess...! --Jubileeclipman 17:00, 9 May 2010 (UTC)
BCx, that guy on Yahoo answers is very...interesting. Jubilee, have you seen this? BTW, can you give me a quick rundown on what's happening over at WP:PED? tl;dr. PrincessofLlyr royal court 17:23, 10 May 2010 (UTC)
Nice find! And I see that you erased somebody's very long fanfiction. Brambleclawx 23:01, 10 May 2010 (UTC)

No, I hadn't seen that. Interesting that they haven't picked up on the PED page... To be honest, though, I have been more interested in the politics of my own country than those of WP over the last few days. I have come here to find relief from the chaos of the election and the subsequent drawn out negotiations between the three main parties caught up in the hung parliament, really... (Slightly smug wink at BCx follows...) WP:PED is pretty much set to remain as is probably: even the most vocal critics have started to accept it. There have been a few people requesting clarification here and there but the RfC idea has fizzled away, I think. Anyway, the page describes exactly what happens, so I don't really how antone can object to it. They can object to the percieved heavy-handedness, perhaps, but I doubt they will once they really think about why the blocks are enforced so swiftly and without discussion. What's more important: people (specifically, children) or an encyclopedia...? WP:IAR: use common sense. I am surprised that Jimbo hasn't weighed in, actually (officially, at least...) --Jubileeclipman 23:32, 10 May 2010 (UTC)

Looks like Wikipedia's getting an update in look. If I'm not mistaken, their just basically saying that they're switching as all over to Vector skin, am I right? Brambleclawx 00:57, 11 May 2010 (UTC)
Yup. You can also change back if you like. Airplaneman 01:05, 11 May 2010 (UTC)
Hm... I'll wait and see. What skin are you plannign to use? Brambleclawx 01:06, 11 May 2010 (UTC)
Saw that. Not really worried about it much. (Until the day I log in and go, "What?" ) Thanks for the summary, Jubilee. I'm also surprised that Jimbo hasn't weighed in. Anyway, I'm good with that conclusion. PrincessofLlyr royal court 01:08, 11 May 2010 (UTC)
No problem Princess. (Jimbo, might have weighed in quietly, BTW, if you look at some of the early comments...) I have known about the Vector change for months... tried Beta out a few times but the Friendly tabs all vanished as did the Cite button in edit mode... indeed switching to Vector via Preferences seems to lose some functionality (unless it is all hidden somewhere I have yet to find). Hopefully they have dealt with all of that and we have full functionality! They have been using Vector over at Media for ages, BTW, and it actually looks far more professional than Monobook --Jubileeclipman 01:37, 11 May 2010 (UTC)
Haven't ever tried Vector. Maybe I'll have to give it a whirl. Surprisingly high level of vandalism tonight... -PrincessofLlyr royal court 01:40, 11 May 2010 (UTC)
(edit conflict)I'll pick once I see how vector looks on Wikipedia (I've seen it in commons, but my computer/browser ran a lot slower there. (not sure if it had anything to with the skin though). I'll help out with the vandal-frying for a bit. Brambleclawx 01:43, 11 May 2010 (UTC)
I ment the Twinkle tabs vanish (I get these add-ons mixed up)... but they don't actually: they are hidden under an arrow next to the Watchlist Star. And Cite is still there, so good news! I might stick with Vector now, acuallly, given that it will be foisted on us anyway soon --Jubileeclipman 01:49, 11 May 2010 (UTC)
(edit conflict)Lookie here! Recent changes is good for finding stuff. Brambleclawx 01:50, 11 May 2010 (UTC)
Cool find! tl;dr, but I got the gist of it. Just changed to Vector, will take some getting used to, but doable. However, it does make me lose my nice little user tab. Not sure I like that. It was a really cool collection of links. Not that I have a choice for much longer. Decisions, decisions. PrincessofLlyr royal court 01:55, 11 May 2010 (UTC)
Cat: By heck, that's huge! And they still haven't spotten PED, AFAICT... Princess: are you sure you have lost your user tab and that it isn't hidden under the arrow or something? --Jubileeclipman 02:02, 11 May 2010 (UTC)

Pretty much positive. My wikimark link is under the arrow, but not the user tab. There is a link for user contributions on the side, but not all of the neat links, like "userspace", etc. PrincessofLlyr royal court 02:15, 11 May 2010 (UTC)

I'll look into it and get back to to you. BTW, this was all a bit of a laugh...... not. Check the contributions out! I was beaten to it several times when I went to revert --Jubileeclipman 02:20, 11 May 2010 (UTC)
Also discovered that there is no link for my wikimarks. There is a link to wikimark a page, but no convenient link for my wikimarks. Very annoying. PrincessofLlyr royal court 02:31, 11 May 2010 (UTC)
You're using Firefox, right? Just bookmark it and assign that bookmark to your bookmarks toolbar. Airplaneman 02:35, 11 May 2010 (UTC)
Well, yes, I could do that, but do you have any idea how long my bookmarks are already? (rhetorical question, very long) Anyway, I just discovered that trying to click any of the links under the arrow gives me my wikimarks. Unfortunately, the page I wanted to csd isn't tagged. I have not figured this out yet. Maybe a skin other than monobook or vector? PrincessofLlyr royal court 02:38, 11 May 2010 (UTC)
Can't you sort them (drag them around)? Could also have a link on your userpage. Not sure if other skins would be any different. If you can't find a subpage to CSD, try Special:PrefixIndex/User:PrincessofLlyr/. Airplaneman 02:42, 11 May 2010 (UTC)
No. The only thing it does when I click "csd" is pull up my wikimarks. I was NPP-ing and tried to tag a page and couldn't do it. They won't move. And granted, I can deal without the user tab, but when I can't use my Twinkle stuff, that's a nuisance. I'll mess with it later. Going to bed for tonight. Editor reviews

Great, you're doing editor reviews! I saw your review on Wikipedia:Editor review/Porchcrop (2) and decided to do a full one myself - see the response I got. Yikes! Anyway, keep it up! Airplaneman 02:58, 8 May 2010 (UTC)

Yes, that is something I would like to get into. I enjoy it. About Porchcrop, I don't agree with his wiki-philosophy, but he is contributing, so I'm not going to question why. Some people just feel like they need praise and I don't fault them for that. Now Mono retiring again, that gets on my nerves! Unless he's using it like an extended-wikibreak template, in which case he needs to learn the difference. PrincessofLlyr royal court 02:36, 9 May 2010 (UTC)
Yes, I agree. BTW, mono's still editing =). Airplaneman 16:21, 9 May 2010 (UTC)

Yeah... I only got involved for the levity of it all but the "owner" seems to be taking at all too seriously and really is WikiMySpacing, IMO. I'll probably remove my name, actually --Jubileeclipman 01:40, 11 May 2010 (UTC)

Cannot believe the dumb typo in my !vote. I've been doing that all morning. Thanks for fixing it! PrincessofLlyr royal court 16:31, 11 May 2010 (UTC)

I almost fixed it when I made my original comment but suddenly realised that I needed to make that change in the most open-and-above-board way possible, hence the single edit not marked as minor and the clear rationale in the edit summary. I could still be taken to task over it but I doubt anyone will bother --Jubileeclipman 16:52, 11 May 2010 (UTC)

Question about twinkle

I was wondering how it worked exactly. Some one recommend that I use it and I am not sure what it is or how to make it work. I have read the article about it but it didn't really help. Homework2 pass a notesign! 15:44, 13 May 2010 (UTC)

Okay. Twinkle is a program you can enable under "gadgets" in "my preferences". Just check the box and then click "save". Twinkle gives you faster options when reverting vandalism, similar to the rollback feature. There are links on the toolbar that will automatically add the templates for csd, vandal warnings, a report on AIV, etc. It is a lot faster! Twinkle also does not show up like a download (ex. Huggle). Does that help? Ask about anything I need to clarify. PrincessofLlyr royal court 16:06, 13 May 2010 (UTC)
Yes it does. But how do I know if it is working? I don't see anything different. Homework2 pass a notesign! 16:07, 13 May 2010 (UTC)
Hmm. Is there an arrow up among the buttons for edit, history, etc? Twinkle stuff should be underneath that. PrincessofLlyr royal court 16:10, 13 May 2010 (UTC)
No. Does it matter if I use Internet Explorer as my internet browser? Homework2 pass a notesign! 16:14, 13 May 2010 (UTC)
That would be the problem. A lot of gadgets don't work with IE. PrincessofLlyr royal court 16:16, 13 May 2010 (UTC)
Sigh. Well that stinks. I was beginning to wonder. Alrighty thanks for the help. Homework2 pass a notesign! 16:18, 13 May 2010 (UTC)
(talk page stalker)Indeed. M$ really do suck for many reasons and I have never got my head around why they can't enable these gadgets. Firefox has other problem, BTW—far too many to list here—so don't rush over to Mozilla just to get your gadgets working! Opera, Google Chrome or Safari might be better options but...... Caveat emptor in all cases, I'm afraid --Jubileeclipman 16:36, 13 May 2010 (UTC)
I don't plan on changing browsers. IE works in most other ways for me anyway. I am totally cool with reverting it manually. Homework2 pass a notesign! 16:46, 13 May 2010 (UTC)

Vector and Twinkle

I just CSDed User:Jubileeclipman/(Book) John Cage using TW under the Vector skin (clicking the link under the arrow) and had no problem at all... I'll try other things as I find the opportunity to do so but so far I have found no problems with Vector. I wonder if your configuration is messed up? Try completely defaulting and adding each extra back in one at a time to see if any problems start to occur. I had to do that recently and everything went back in no problem so I suspect a bug might have appeared in your configuration or something. OTOH, I haven't yet investigated all the issues that you have pointed out so there might be more to this. BTW, the above thread is a bit big for my slow connection to draw now hence the new section. Oh... and again your new adoptee's box is hidden by the pink collapse bar of About me: you might need to move your userboxes about a bit or use a table to order them as I have --Jubileeclipman 20:40, 11 May 2010 (UTC)

That's fine. Funny how as soon as I went to help out with the high amount of vandalism last night, I immediately got attacked. Wow. Brambleclawx 20:53, 11 May 2010 (UTC) Add Just got a "Can't contact database server" message for the past 5 minutes or so. Brambleclawx 21:27, 11 May 2010 (UTC)
Sorry for spamming your talk page, but I've been thinking: would adding a list of herbs be considered WP:FANCRUFT? Brambleclawx 21:32, 11 May 2010 (UTC)
Are you going to Scarborough Fair? --Jubileeclipman 22:02, 11 May 2010 (UTC)
Huh? I thought that the fair no longer exists, not to mention I'd have to fly across the ocean to get there. Or are you saying the article needs help? Brambleclawx 22:04, 11 May 2010 (UTC)
Parsley, sage, rosemary and thyme... Which article do you mean? --Jubileeclipman 22:09, 11 May 2010 (UTC)
Er... all of them except sage and thyme, I guess. Does this have something to do with my YouTube video? Brambleclawx 22:12, 11 May 2010 (UTC)
No, I mean where were you going to add your list of herbs? On the server problems... you should try my connection: drops out at random and either WP or FF (not sure which) logs me out at random... "annoying" is putting it mildly. Oh, and that user was out for the heck of it, I think: they actually vandalised the page of the editor who tagged them with the level 4 and an admin blocked them after Cluebot reverted the vandalism! Oh and they said "I am here to f$ck things up" or words to that effect, IIRC. BTW, I must have missed your vid somewhere.... --Jubileeclipman 22:25, 11 May 2010 (UTC)
Oh! I meant Warriors (novel series), because the cats used herbs found in the forest to treat sickness. As for that user, I don't worry about vandals too much. Brambleclawx 22:42, 11 May 2010 (UTC)
Ah. Again it depends how important the info is for a full understanding of the subject, i.e. the Warriors Series. Is the fact that they used particular herbs central to the books? Or is it a minor side issue? IMO, it probably is fancruft if you list all the herbs. The paragraph "Every Clan has a medicine cat, who communicates with StarClan and heals injured or sick cats with the use of herbs found in the forest.... [etc]" is probably enough, therefore. Watergirl and Airboy could probably help more, however --Jubileeclipman 22:54, 11 May 2010 (UTC)
Very intersting names... Brambleclawx 22:58, 11 May 2010 (UTC)
Indeed, Catman --Jubileeclipman 23:00, 11 May 2010 (UTC)
Oh no. Whatever shall we call you now? Brambleclawx 23:08, 11 May 2010 (UTC)

Gotta read this. Brambleclawx 23:18, 11 May 2010 (UTC)

Wow - that's insane! I really think we should create a blog or something for more off-topic things such as this. Would you guys like to join an IRC channel or something? Airplaneman 23:27, 11 May 2010 (UTC)
I'll mess with the vector/twinkle/wikimark thing later tonight. List of herbs, while cool, is probably fancrufty. That vandal was excessive. Surprisingly, I haven't been bothered by vandals here since my userpage was semi-protected. Jubilee, I was worried about that, will tweak. Airman (note his name- isn't "boy" a bit demeaning? Maybe it's just me...), we discussed IRC before and I think the general consensus was that most of us couldn't do it. A blog would be cool - anyone have one already? PrincessofLlyr royal court 23:59, 11 May 2010 (UTC)
I have a twitter called SuperAirplane - a blog would be a bit problematic now that I think of it becuase I don't know how to make posts private. My tweets are private at the moment. At any rate, we must curtail any random posts :(. Airplaneman 00:15, 12 May 2010 (UTC)
I think there is actually a way to blog where only people that are invited or approved can see posts. I'm not sure exactly which websites will do that. But anyway, could you guys take a look at this? PrincessofLlyr royal court 00:20, 12 May 2010 (UTC)
(edit conflict)x2 Blog? I used to have a Google Sites site that was supposed to be a website for myself to post stuff to, and double as a Warriors encyclopedia, but writing page after page of Warriors stuff got tedious. Not to mention it has my real name in it, (which you've all probably found somewhere by now, so what the heck). I believe that none of us have FB (maybe Jubilee does, I don't know). We could set one up on Webs (I've taken a few names, if I remember, as well as one on Piczo). If anyone else has ideas, of course, I think it would be nice to hear them (It would reduce the chances of being accused of wiki-myspacing).
Herbs, I will probably leave out (but stash in my user space), so I should leave Derild4921 a note, since he was the one asking for a list. As for Airboy/man, I guess its up to him. Would you rather be called Waterlady then, your highness? Will look at the afd. Brambleclawx 00:22, 12 May 2010 (UTC)
Whatever else is true, we need to avoid being accused of WPMYSPACING i.e. the very thing we complained of recently...... I do think our discussions are incredibly productive, though, and advance WP in important ways (as I said before when I called us a WikiProject). Indeed, we almost always discuss articles or policies etc and how to deal with issues surrounding them and very rarely discuss outside issues --Jubileeclipman 00:27, 12 May 2010 (UTC)
Add Yes, I'm on FaceBook but haven't been over there for a while --Jubileeclipman 00:30, 12 May 2010 (UTC)
Lets see; mostly, our discussions are along the lines of: encouraging/providing advice to one another for on-wiki activities, asking for help with articles, discussions of deletions and that sort of stuff, and discussions of policy. Looks productive. On the flip side, we can see some "weird" stuff too. Brambleclawx 00:34, 12 May 2010 (UTC)

Not that much different to most active wikiprojects then... --Jubileeclipman 00:41, 12 May 2010 (UTC)

(edit conflict) (talk page stalker) They made a change to Twinkle in Vector; I don't like it. Is that what you're talking about?--moɳo 00:42, 12 May 2010 (UTC)
Discussion earlier about blogging: Blogger (service) allows you to lock your blog away and invite people.--moɳo 00:44, 12 May 2010 (UTC)
(edit conflict)You're a useful tps! I would def consider our discussion very different from arguments about who theoretically rules parts of the universe. So, about vector. I turned it on again today and it now works. There is a second arrow, under which my wikimark stuff shows up. So, I actually like vector fairly well now. It will take getting used to. PrincessofLlyr royal court 00:46, 12 May 2010 (UTC)
(edit conflict)Hello Mono. I don't believe we've met before. . I don't think its necessary to use the TPS template when joining us; only for other users who are not used to the Princess' mob of Tps's. Brambleclawx 00:49, 12 May 2010 (UTC)

←Haha, I guess. I've been using Vector for a while; I joined because I wanted to try "the beta" .--moɳo 00:53, 12 May 2010 (UTC)

Always feels so nice after dealing with a persistent vandal. (This is wikipedia-realted, I hope). Brambleclawx 02:23, 12 May 2010 (UTC)
That's WP related! I saw that (belatedly), and thought it was a bit ridiculous. Stupid vandals! PrincessofLlyr royal court 02:37, 12 May 2010 (UTC)
Ever notice that most vandals edit with a specific theme? Brambleclawx 21:20, 12 May 2010 (UTC)
You mean like changing dates from "1974" to "1274" or adding "Penis" to prominent pages? Yep, noticed that --Jubileeclipman 21:38, 12 May 2010 (UTC)
Yep. Reminds me of WP:DUCK for some reason... Brambleclawx 21:40, 12 May 2010 (UTC)
Exactly: that is precisely what that page is about. How about "If it smells like a rat, bites like a rat and spreads disease like a rat, it's probably a rat"? --Jubileeclipman 21:44, 12 May 2010 (UTC)
I've always wanted to write an essay, but it feels like most of the good stuff has been written about already. Brambleclawx 21:48, 12 May 2010 (UTC)
Don't bank on it: User:Jubileeclipman/How to source an article. You just reminded me... --Jubileeclipman 21:52, 12 May 2010 (UTC)

Vector is now the default... and they changed it again... in line with the beta model they they wanted everyone to try out... ugh. This really is going to take some getting used to. It took a while even to find the signature button! --Jubileeclipman 14:10, 13 May 2010 (UTC)

Yeah, I've been on Beta for the last few days and still have to hunt for the button I want. Anyway, I have a wedding this weekend and everything is crazy IRL, so if I don't get back to you or my adoptees quickly, that's why. I'll try to answer questions within 24 hours, but if it goes much longer than that, feel free to help them yourselves. Thanks! PrincessofLlyr royal court 16:10, 13 May 2010 (UTC)
OK. I'll wait a repectful time and if you or the others haven't answered I'll reply on your behalf. I think we all understand the basics enough not to give contradictory advice or say something that you (or any of us, for that matter) would be horrified at! OTOH, my RL is crazy: I am in the process of chucking stuff away that I have been hanging onto for years—nay, decades. Tough call in some cases but I can't drag it all with me on the 8 hour journey to my dad's. Anyway, that's enough MySpacing for today... --Jubileeclipman 18:20, 13 May 2010 (UTC)
A-HA! Wikipedia:RefToolbar_1.0#Enhanced_Toolbar: Obviously the beta stuff was all added in by default when we switched over. (I specifically unchecked "Enable enhanced editing toolbar" ages ago after trying it out for a short while and never personally checked it again: the box must have been checked automatically during the switch over.) Disabling the Enhanced Toolbar will restore the old edit window dialogue we all love to hate. I have also disabled WikEd after having tried it for a few days: not only does the Cite tool not work but it also cause strange things to happen like the Page Notice being doubled up and so on. Basically, WikEd and the Enhanced Toolbar are too buggy for my liking --Jubileeclipman 22:07, 13 May 2010 (UTC)
Nice find! Personally, I haven't had much trouble with the beta yet, but I haven't done extensive work with it. I would have warned you about WikEd - it caused the Aviator and me some trouble awhile back! Glad you got it figured out! High level of vandalism right now - and one of the first website spam cases I've run across. PrincessofLlyr royal court 22:10, 13 May 2010 (UTC)
Funny you should mention that: [1]... That cabal !leader actually warned me about WikEd funnily enough when I spoke to him on my talkpage: I was going to disable it anyway but forgot when the change-over happened. BTW, there've been some odd goings on over at the Tchaikovsky article (or whatever the "correct" name is...) and its relatives. Right-ho, Recent Changes here I come... --Jubileeclipman 22:41, 13 May 2010 (UTC)

Yes! You have saved my day, Jubilee!!!!! (alright, enough exclamation marks already...) My feedback complaint about vector is now futile; a familiar and functional toolbar at last! Airplaneman 22:28, 13 May 2010 (UTC)
P.S. After trying Firefox for around two months for compatability (rounded corners on my talk page, etc.), I have defaulted back to Chrome, as the Mac version of it has progressed a lot since I defected to Firefox. The only thing I miss is multi-columned refs and direct scrolling to a long page's top or bottom (three-finger swipe on FF, no equivalent on Chrome), but I can deal with that. Chrome is snappier, IMO, and doesn't crash. Airplaneman 22:28, 13 May 2010 (UTC)
I have Chrome on my system. I think I'll give it a go. FF is just annoying the [favourite swear word here] out of me by constantly trying to do too much at once and then locking up --Jubileeclipman 22:41, 13 May 2010 (UTC)
I like it because it tends to use less system resources. It's also quite fast. @PrincessofLlyr: you can always add {{Wikipedia:Bureaucrats' noticeboard/RfA Report}} to your userpage/talkpage to stay up-to-date with RFAs :). Airplaneman 22:55, 13 May 2010 (UTC)
Also, on your userpage, the userboxes are getting covered up by the collapsible boxes. If you want, put {{-}} to clear them. Airplaneman 23:00, 13 May 2010 (UTC)

←I went back to Chrome as well; now that Vector is here it doesn't really matter. I really like the new WP:REFTOOLBAR for citing; it's the one thing that kept me on Monobook for a while.--moɳo 00:51, 14 May 2010 (UTC)

Btw, I hate the new logo; see here for what I did...--moɳo 00:55, 14 May 2010 (UTC)
Yes, it could use with some more contrast, although I can live with it. @mono - nice talk page banner you have there :). Airplaneman 00:56, 14 May 2010 (UTC)
I just initiated this AfD. Please take a look. Airplaneman 01:35, 14 May 2010 (UTC)
Spaced my userpage - problem solved? Will look into the RfA box and AfD later. PrincessofLlyr royal court 02:12, 14 May 2010 (UTC)
Yes, better! Airplaneman 02:29, 14 May 2010 (UTC)
I'm surpirsed by the fact that I was not at all surprised to see the vector skin when I got here today. Very nice. The vector skin's been criticised already (on Yahoo answers). Brambleclawx 02:41, 14 May 2010 (UTC)

←Grabbed banner from the pilot; take a look @ my substitute logo...--moɳo 00:43, 15 May 2010 (UTC)

Hey guys, especially Jubilee, check this out! Another Exclusive Fox News story about the chaos reigning supreme at WP. Somebody over there is very interested in events here. PrincessofLlyr royal court 03:31, 15 May 2010 (UTC)
Well, I think that's FoxNews off my personal list of RSs... What a pile of drivel. "Wales is no longer able to delete files, remove administrators, assign projects or edit any content, sources say." Huh? "...no longer able to... edit any content"?! Er... "no longer able to delete files"? Um.... (Click each of his userrights in turn to find out exactly what he can do.) Who is that source? See also Wikipedia:Role of Jimmy Wales (though I suppose we had better keep an eye on that page...) That's why my link to his talkpage on PED was under the section An opinion and linked as "FWIW" . Interesting that PED (still being questioned, BTW) still isn't being noticed and that one of the most the most controversial images of all is still there: Virgin Killer/Internet Watch Foundation and Wikipedia Honestly, Fox's conclusions and editorialisation of the actual situation are just plain wrong: WP won't implode! "When asked who was in charge now, the source said, “No one. It’s chaos.”" No change there, then! "Good grief..." --Jubileeclipman 15:53, 15 May 2010 (UTC)
Quite right. For the most part, I don't mind Fox News' right-wingism, but this article was over the top. I would love to know who the source was! For all we know, it could have been Sanger! (I actually don't think so, because he probably wouldn't miss the chance for publicity.) Like you mentioned, I found the part about no one being in charge particularly ignorant - there is never anyone "in charge". It may well be chaos, but it's calculated chaos - something gets done! Anyway, ranting over. PrincessofLlyr royal court 16:26, 15 May 2010 (UTC)
That's utter nonsense. I've never thought of FOX as being particularly reliable, but that's just garbage, the stuff they just wrote there. Would love to find out who the "source" is. "It's chaos"? I don't see any chaos. They make it sound like the Commons admins are trying to stage a revolution or something! Brambleclawx 18:47, 15 May 2010 (UTC)
I agree. Tried to leave a comment this morning (as "airplaneman"), but it hasn't shown up, as expected. Oh well... how do you guys like Vector? For me, it took some time getting used to, but I've grown to like it. I've seen a lot of complaints around the site about it, though. Airplaneman 20:36, 15 May 2010 (UTC)
Not just around the site; other sites too. Someone couldn't find the search bar. I'm fine with whatever skin. It took me a couple of second before I realised the star was the watchlist button. I thought it was some new convoluted way that editors could affect how high up a page appeared when suggestions popped up for search queries. Brambleclawx 20:45, 15 May 2010 (UTC)
Well now that I have disabled the Enhanced Toolbar in "Beta Features" (actually the default, BTW, so hardly "Beta": just log out, try to edit, and see what happens...) everything seems to work as normal... even if I do have to hunt around a little. The skin looks good though—as I said before: it has a more professional feel, IMO --Jubileeclipman 21:46, 15 May 2010 (UTC)
Ah. I just re-enabled the Enhanced Toolbar and found out that the Cite tool is there. They now appear to use Wikipedia:RefToolbar 2.0. I am going to give the "Beta" features a chance, I think, and see how I fare for the next few day... now where is that signature button...? Ah: --Jubileeclipman 22:12, 15 May 2010 (UTC)
Although I really like the "find and replace" feature, it doesn't work very well. I got a chance to use the cite tool - very handy. I always type out my four ~ manually, so I was good there. What swayed me back to the old toolbar, however, was the fact that I could highlight text and click a simple button to add a link. Instead, I either have to type [[ ]] out manually or click several times and type! Oh well... Airplaneman 22:21, 15 May 2010 (UTC)

TBO, I have always done and still do quite a lot manualy even if there is a "quicker" way of doing it. To be frank, adding the [[ ]] as I type or as part of the editing process is just a quick as hitting the old Wikilink button, in my experience. No idea why I bother with the sig button, though: habit, I guess! Jubileeclipman 22:27, 15 May 2010 (UTC) [=four tildes typed in manually]

Eek... I just tried out Search and Replace... I hit Random Article, ended up at Drakan: Order of the Flame and asked it to replace "Drakan" with "Dragon". I didn't save, of course, but I bet it is too tempting for Mr and Ms Vandal... --Jubileeclipman 22:34, 15 May 2010 (UTC)
Yes, good point. I'm guessing this is going to be a big problem. I also guess that my pressing the button is out of habit as well. Airplaneman 22:36, 15 May 2010 (UTC)
@PrincessofLlyr - Bradjamesbrown is up for adminship. As I can recall, he did your editor review and I think you discussed adminship...? Or was that someone else? ... Anyway, yup, just thought I'd put it out there :). Airplaneman 00:14, 16 May 2010 (UTC)
Sounds like you're all getting along pretty well with the new skin. I always type the four tildes manually; same with the wikilinks. I rarely use the buttons. Brambleclawx 00:31, 16 May 2010 (UTC)
I'm getting used to Vector - just trying to find everything! Much like the Cat, I use very few of the buttons, so that hasn't bothered me. Airman, thanks for the heads-up about the RfA - have !voted. Several strong RfA's on the table right now - that's really good! PrincessofLlyr royal court 01:56, 16 May 2010 (UTC)
LOL!!! (Check our contributions to make sense of it.) Great minds and all that... RfA: BradJB is a no-brainer, IMO. Vector: I am actually getting used to the new toolbar now Jubileeclipman 02:04, 16 May 2010 (UTC)
BTW, I am trying out Chrome and have suddenly realised that it has a spell checker... fantastic! [signed you-know-who]
That's what I'm using right now... it's pretty beast :) Airplaneman 02:19, 16 May 2010 (UTC)
What They Died For (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) is undergoing edit war... not that it concerns any of us. But I reported it to admins, since I had no idea how to stop edit wars. Brambleclawx 16:11, 16 May 2010 (UTC)
Try warning the involved parties and see what happens. Airplaneman 16:22, 16 May 2010 (UTC)
First glance it looks more like vandalism by IPs. You could try WP:RPP asking for temporary semi-protection. (Twinkle helps you do this quite easily but be sure it really is vandalism and not simply an edit war) --Jubileeclipman 16:33, 16 May 2010 (UTC)
[2] Honestly, I don't know how many times I have decided to suggest protection recently only to find that some admin has had exactly the same idea at exactly the same time! --Jubileeclipman 16:39, 16 May 2010 (UTC)
Glad it was protected at any rate. Do you think I've overloaded my new adoptee? Oh, and there are developments at Talk:What They Died For. Airplaneman 17:08, 16 May 2010 (UTC)

Well... when I first saw your post I thought tl;dr. Then did read it and realised you had to explain all the Policy and procedures etc.: they installed the NPP script... Perhaps emphasise that making mistakes is not a bad thing but also that simple editing is probably a better way to learn at the very beginning. I never installed any of these scripts, gadgets etc. for a very long time. And you can get blocked for misusing gadgets and scripts don't forget. That's just my thoughts, though, and they are not based on the editor's contributions but on my own personal experience[citation needed] (POV then...!) --Jubileeclipman 17:22, 16 May 2010 (UTC)

Oi, M. le Deletionist: "don't hesitate to go to TW --> PROD (see proposed deletion) and select BLP PROD"! You are right, though, unfortunately...--Jubileeclipman 17:28, 16 May 2010 (UTC)
{ec}}Looks good. It does seem a bit overwhelming at first, but aftre reading it twice, it seems ok. Brambleclawx 17:30, 16 May 2010 (UTC)
Airman, do you really think it's a good idea to start a brand new user on NPP-ing? I had trouble with that after months of contributing. If you think he can do it, that's fine, I just wondered. And, oh my, you guys run across everything. I love the way all kinds of things show up when y'all talk. Also Airman, I supported you on Mono's talk about WP:DTTR. Oh, and to all, I survived the wedding. (But that's kind of obvious considering that I'm here!) PrincessofLlyr royal court 17:53, 16 May 2010 (UTC)
(edit conflict)Just when I was getting used to vector, I came across a bug, and have now switched back to Monobook (at least temporarily). Cite book gives me a blank form with no fields. Brambleclawx 17:53, 16 May 2010 (UTC)
So, in lieu of the reference desk, I'm asking y'all: Do cockroaches bite people? My crazy family! (This is totally not WP-related) PrincessofLlyr royal court 18:12, 16 May 2010 (UTC)
I have no idea. It's not in the cockroach article... Brambleclawx 18:18, 16 May 2010 (UTC)
Apparently yes they do. But that assumes those are WP:RSs of course... Like your funny edit-conflict, BTW, Cat! And the Sunshine came from that post below. Haven't actually tried Cite Book, yet, but I am aware of the bugs: they are all over the new refToolbar's talkpage. Oh, and surviving a wedding is one thing,... surviving marriage is quite another... (but don't show this to the bride and groom...) --Jubileeclipman 18:53, 16 May 2010 (UTC)
I would imaging this is fairly reliable, however: University of Massachusetts Biology Dept. --Jubileeclipman 19:03, 16 May 2010 (UTC)
Thanks! Someone in my family wanted to know. This is interesting. Vandals...ugh. PrincessofLlyr royal court 19:42, 16 May 2010 (UTC)
Guys, thanks for your feedback. @Princess: I only began with NPPing because my adoptee installed TheJosh's script and put the userbox on their userpage already and wanted to make sure they didn't mess up :). Also, I agree. Vandals can be stupid; just look at this . And my friend did this... sigh (and no, I'm not Robert) Airplaneman 19:53, 16 May 2010 (UTC)
Okay, that makes sense! Vandals are dumb. Like this previous adoptee of yours: User:VTomi. Just got Ronnie James Dio semi-protected - that article has been hopping all day. PrincessofLlyr royal court 21:14, 16 May 2010 (UTC)
Vandals being annoying again, I see. @Airman and Princess: So have you heard the rumours going around about a Warriors movie featuring voices of Elijah Wood, Zac Efron, Rihanna, etc? I've heard it, but still have no idea why people believe it. @Everyone: Maybe Vector isn't worth all the trouble... 22:01, 16 May 2010 (UTC) Add They fixed the Cite Book, and added Cite Journal! Brambleclawx 22:05, 16 May 2010 (UTC)

←I had my userpage unprotected; I want to put together a collection of insults. Plus, it'll give me some more vandalism to revert. Y'all can mess it up if you like; I won't press charges.--moɳo 23:12, 16 May 2010 (UTC)

I doubt any of us will go and vandalise your page, especially with the big scary notice about sticking a notice on our pages and getting us blocked (something I love doing to vandals; if I think the vandal is likely to keep vandalising, I literally keep refreshing their contribs until they do, then revert and warn them; it pretty fun) Brambleclawx 00:39, 17 May 2010 (UTC)
You are exempted from the notice; I like doing that too until they find WP:STALK.  :(--moɳo 00:50, 17 May 2010 (UTC)
I don't think that's a violation of WP:STALK if it's to deal with vandalism, is it? Brambleclawx 00:55, 17 May 2010 (UTC)
I don't think that's violation. And you wouldn't have to be stalking them - you be RCP-ing and just happen to hit their edits each time. Reverting vandalism is pretty much always good. I've seen insult collections before, but never really interested in having one myself. I have not heard anything about the "potential" Warriors movie, but that sounds pretty unlikely. PrincessofLlyr royal court 02:27, 17 May 2010 (UTC)
@Brambleclawx: Nice one.  !!!! (lol)
Nice one, Mono... took me a while to figure out who it was --!!!!
Yeah indeed, that's my take as well; they're vandals anyway so what the... Oh wait this isn't the Aviator's talkpage is it...? BTW, I offered to adopt MeisMyself --Jubileeclipman 02:43, 17 May 2010 (UTC)

←The idea of my page being vandalized amuses me. Could we abandon this extra-long thread and start at new one at my place?--moɳo 02:50, 17 May 2010 (UTC)

@Jubilee: that made me lol and I liked yours too, Cat :). !!!!(Airplaneman 03:00, 17 May 2010 (UTC))
Like my little gift?  !!!! (moɳo 03:05, 17 May 2010 (UTC))
Well, you only said you'd slap on a template for your userpage vandalism; WP:DTTR still applies for everywhere else. Airplaneman 03:10, 17 May 2010 (UTC)
Airman, it's a joke for crying out loud. </queue annoying baby at grocery story> moɳo 03:12, 17 May 2010 (UTC)

Hi, PrincessofLlyr. I hope you don't mind if I deleted the social networking parts of this dicussion. See User talk:Mono#May 2010 for more details. What I say there applies not only to Mono, but also everyone who posted in the thread. Thanks. Lawlar (talk) 05:02, 17 May 2010 (UTC)

And I restored it all: most of it was actually directly about WikiPedia --Jubileeclipman 12:51, 17 May 2010 (UTC)
Posted a response on Lawlar's talk. He probably found this thread throuh Bcx's welcome template, since he probably has some links to here from his talk. Airplaneman 22:05, 17 May 2010 (UTC)
On the contrary, I posted the welcome after he found this. I was feeling a bit sorry for the guy (read a certain way, it can almost feel like you're ganging up on him), so instead of further pressing the issue with him, I decided to paste a welcome on his page so that he could feel welcomed and have some resourced to read through. I am quite surprised that he not only found a talk page discussion with apparent link to him, but also by the fact he knew about WP:MYSPACE, not to mention after very few edits... Brambleclawx 22:11, 17 May 2010 (UTC)
See bottom section. I think he's a sock, but not certain. Poor guy, though! He picked quite the group to mess with here. Anyway, to work and good-bye to these long discussions. If you guys have suggestions of somewhere off-WP we can discuss things, feel free to post those suggestions. PrincessofLlyr royal court 23:14, 17 May 2010 (UTC)
Anyone fancy a game of Baganga, BTW..? --Jubileeclipman 00:10, 18 May 2010 (UTC)

I'd just archive the above, now, Princess, and we can start afresh with less waffle and more work (all of us I mean) --Jubileeclipman 00:13, 18 May 2010 (UTC)

(talk page stalker)Hello Vicenzo08. You could try WP:Footnotes and WP:Citing sources while you are waiting for the Princess. I could give you more but promised not to... --Jubileeclipman 19:05, 12 May 2010 (UTC)

Thanks clipman Vicenzo08 (talk) 04:25, 13 May 2010 (UTC)

No problem --Jubileeclipman 18:23, 13 May 2010 (UTC)

Sorry it's taken me so long to get back - things are a little crazy IRL (in real life, not sure if you've seen that before!). By all means, read the links that Jubilee gave! In short, you add "<ref> ''(reference here)'' </ref>" in the proper place in the article with a reference in between the tags. Then at the bottom of the page, there should be a References section, under which should be either {{Reflist}} or <references/>, either of which will produce a list of the references used in the article. Specific styles of citations should be included in the articles Jubilee linked, but if you want more explanation, please, feel free to ask. You can also practice with references in my sandbox if you like. PrincessofLlyr royal court 13:13, 13 May 2010 (UTC)

I've left a few examples of more detailed citation styles in my sandbox. The one you did was fine, but not the preferred style. Another useful link: Referencing for beginners. Good work! PrincessofLlyr royal court 18:43, 13 May 2010 (UTC)

Links

Hi Princess. I can't figure out how to type links out and have them appear as a non hyperlink...For instance on User:MeisMyself's talk page, I wanted to do something like what Jubilee did, but I can't do it. It's frustrating. Help? Homework2 pass a notesign! 14:42, 17 May 2010 (UTC)

I'm not quite sure I know exactly what you're asking. Could you clarify? PrincessofLlyr royal court 15:41, 17 May 2010 (UTC)
I think I do. The second half of my version of your sister's signature won't "work" because the link is on the page linked to. Compare this: User talk:PrincessofLlyr. It comes out bold and won't link because we're already on the Princess' talkpage. Try clicking her "royal court" link, also --Jubileeclipman 15:50, 17 May 2010 (UTC)
Nooo not really. I mean I just want the format that I have to copy and paste somewhere. Like vandalism templates. I just want to post the template so that I can go to my userpage and copy it from there instead of finding WP:Vandalism. Better? Homework2 pass a notesign! 15:57, 17 May 2010 (UTC)
Yeah, I just realised that. I was about post as you replied. You mean like [[Main page]]. Use the <nowiki></nowiki> thing... (Look at the edit summary to see how I had to show you that!) I'll let the Princess explain about templates as there is a special way to deal with them (Hint: tl|) --Jubileeclipman 16:04, 17 May 2010 (UTC)
Ahhhhh thanks! Homework2 pass a notesign! 16:06, 17 May 2010 (UTC)
--Jubileeclipman 16:08, 17 May 2010 (UTC)
Did that fully answer your question? Because I'm terrible at the technical side of WP (technology in general, actually). So any of my tps's can prolly answer those questions better. And Jubilee, I've never had to do a template when I wasn't actually using it. Please, enlighten me! PrincessofLlyr royal court 16:15, 17 May 2010 (UTC)
Yes. Indeed it did. Worked too. I could probably figure it out on my own, but I don't know what pages to look for...And I like having 'real' people help me. Homework2 pass a notesign! 16:25, 17 May 2010 (UTC)
@Princess: {{tl|Find sources}} comes out as {{Find sources}}, for example. There are variations on this and equals signs (and a few others) have to be remarked with "1=" e.g. {{tl|1==)}} comes out as {{=)}}. @Here: are you saying the Princess isn't a "real" person... --Jubileeclipman 16:36, 17 May 2010 (UTC)

BTW, I have adopted MeisMyself. I suggested she start with WP:5P and WP:NOT. That make sense? --Jubileeclipman 16:50, 17 May 2010 (UTC)

Oh... and perhaps that section being deleted was a warning shot across the bows: we do get perilously close to WP:MYSPACING at times. The whole Mono thing was a bit daft and the cabal was also ridiculous. Perhaps we just need to focus our efforts and ignore pointless distractions? --Jubileeclipman 16:55, 17 May 2010 (UTC)
Saw the adoption, great, and very good suggestions for the start. About the discussions, I thought things got out of hand with Mono and we should be more careful about our discussions. I've actually put out a few requests for experienced opinions on the whole thing. I wanted to know their takes and get their opinion on Lawlar. It could be coincidence, but that's a lot of policy knowledge for a brand new user. And I still can't figure out how he got here. So anyway, that's that. We'll see where it goes. PrincessofLlyr royal court 17:08, 17 May 2010 (UTC)
I might start a WP:SPI later. I'm concerned that it may be User:Codedon. I wouldn't worry; I'd say s/he wanted to make an impact. Btw, he violated WP:DTTR on my talkpage.--moɳo 17:36, 17 May 2010 (UTC)
Yes, but it's a "new" user, they have no reason to know about not doing that. You, on the other hand, do know better. As for it being Codedon, I suppose it could be, but it doesn't really look like his style. And there are new users who have done their research, it's just unusual. PrincessofLlyr royal court 17:58, 17 May 2010 (UTC)
Sooo there are tons of ways to do the template thing...is there any page that shows all of them? @Jubilee: I never said that Princess wans't real! I just prefer asking questions and getting answers opposed to spending 3 hours trying to find it. Homework2 pass a notesign! 18:10, 17 May 2010 (UTC)

←@HFH2: there are waaaaaaaaay too many. You can see a guide here, with warnings here. @POL: I know! My adoptee, User:VerballyInsane is the same way, surprisingly proficient at editing. I don't want to insult anyone, however, I may put in a WP:SPI for User:Codedon, User:VerballyInsane, and User:Lawlar for a WP:CU to double-check (not the same report).--moɳo 18:18, 17 May 2010 (UTC)

(edit conflict):@Here: LOL! And I am not sure if there is page that shows all of them... it would be a bit huge, probably. I'll have look, though. @Everyone else: I also think this "new" user is a Sock but am willing to admit that it might just be a reader that has finally bitten the bullet and started editing; no idea about Codedon as I have never seem that user before. BTW, my browser (Chrome) is behaving very strangely: I keep losing the cursor in the edit window for no apparent reason; also, when I first open the edit, it throws me all over the place and again the cursor disappears. Anyone else having weird problems? Is it the new toolbar or something? --Jubileeclipman 18:28, 17 May 2010 (UTC)
(edit conflict)@Homework, looks like mono gave you the right links! @Mono, why CU VerballyInsane? Has he done anything controversial? I don't really think you should SPI just because a user shows a high level of knowledge. To me, he's looked like a normal, albeit quick learning, user. However, I would fully support an SPI at least for Lawlar, and prolly Codedon too. @Jubilee, I haven't had any problems, although I did end up changing my Qui status (accidentally) because the search bar and Qui thing were so close together. PrincessofLlyr royal court 18:33, 17 May 2010 (UTC)
Yep. @Mono: Thanks! Homework2 pass a notesign! 18:58, 17 May 2010 (UTC)

Pending?

Since most of the members of PJTF seem to stalk the Princess, I'll ask this here! Wikipedia:WikiProject Novels/Percy Jackson Task Force/Members: what is the Pending section for? Is it for the Bot? A few editors, including our adoptees, appear to have been confused by it and added their names to that section—presumably because that thought they had to be "approved" or something. The bot sent them a message about the roll call, so I assume it is for the bot. It might me helpful to clearly explain what each section of the members list is for. BTW, the bot's message links to Wikipedia:PJTF about five million times... and it doesn't explain that editors should move their names to Active or Supporters or where ever.. Also, the huge hand on he project page is a bit scary! Surely, outstretched arms would be better? Oh, and there is no "unknown" section: presumably it was renamed as "Pending"? Oh, and why is the bot still running if the roll-call ended a month ago? Sorry for all the questions! --Jubileeclipman 19:40, 17 May 2010 (UTC)

Mostly done. I removed the image, but did not change it. The date confusion came about because we're holding a new roll call with the specific requirements. In case you didn't see, the last roll call didn't do much for weeding out inactive members, as it occurred close to the release of the movie and many inactive new users joined. Thanks for the notice! PrincessofLlyr royal court 20:00, 17 May 2010 (UTC)
Sorry I didn't get back to you! Trying to figure something out for my adoptee. Not getting very far... Anyway, what you say makes sense: thanks --Jubileeclipman 23:10, 17 May 2010 (UTC)
It's okay. So glad Baganga is finally deleted; having to AfD was stupid. Look at this: [3]. PrincessofLlyr royal court 00:16, 18 May 2010 (UTC)
Nice to finally meet a real Nazi Princess! And yeah that AfD was crazy. My adoptee is having trouble with Qui. Do you use IE8? Does Qui work OK if so? --Jubileeclipman 00:22, 18 May 2010 (UTC)
Normally I don't use IE, but I pulled it up and logged on, and no, Qui doesn't seem to work on IE. Most scripts don't. That's why HereforHomework couldn't use Twinkle. PrincessofLlyr royal court 00:25, 18 May 2010 (UTC)
Yes, but Qui is supposed to work on IE and did until recently it seems: see its talkpage. I am waiting for TheDJ to answer (he's pretty sharp, actually, so it shouldn't take long) --Jubileeclipman 00:29, 18 May 2010 (UTC)

Opinion

I think that Lawlar's warning on Mono was much too strongly worded, but I agree with the sentiment. You guys' discussion was a bit long-winded for here; it would be best if you could take it to a forum, a chat venue, or a social networking site. Lawlar, while his stuff was strongly worded, was acting in good faith, and I'm glad that you and Airplaneman replied with appropriate civility. What I am confused about though, is how recently created the Lawlar account is. bibliomaniac15 22:51, 17 May 2010 (UTC)

Thank you for your opinion. It is much appreciated. I believe we have all decided to tone down the discussions. Mono expressed concern that Lawlar is perhaps related to User:Codedon, and I think that's it is definitely possible he is a sock of someone. Do you think an SPI is appropriate? PrincessofLlyr royal court 23:04, 17 May 2010 (UTC)
Where did he even get a connection between the two? Brambleclawx 00:36, 18 May 2010 (UTC)
No idea where Codedon came from. Also, Lawlar's other edits are actually quite constructive. It really is baffling --Jubileeclipman 00:40, 18 May 2010 (UTC)
He had some trouble with Codedon earlier; I think he's just wondering if that's why such a "new" user showed up on his talk. That's the thing, Lawlar went from editing an article to Mono's page in literally one minute and I see no connection. Anyway, we'll see what happens. It is very curious. PrincessofLlyr royal court 02:14, 18 May 2010 (UTC)
Mono has started an SPI: Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Lawlar I (obliquely) mentioned that the editor ended up at your page also—though that was almost certainly from Mono's copied version of your page (the only edit that actually makes sense, now I think of!) --Jubileeclipman 02:18, 18 May 2010 (UTC)

Signatures

I feel bad for veering off on a tangent so quickly. I will not make anymore non-section related comments, but as HereforHomework is your adoptee, I'd like to mentioned the "sign" link in their signature, which may violate WP:SIG#Disruptive links. Brambleclawx 00:42, 18 May 2010 (UTC)

Pretty marginal, IMO. Mine links to WP:CTM, BTW... --Jubileeclipman 01:04, 18 May 2010 (UTC)
No problem. That's WP-related. I left a message on her talk page as it will prolly be safer if it's removed. PrincessofLlyr royal court 01:15, 18 May 2010 (UTC)

Can you help me out?

Hey, I noticed that you recently reverted some changes on Medical physics as original research. I've also been reverting the same changes that Tbsg2006 (talk · contribs) keeps reposting. I've tried to explain that this information needs to be cited [4], [5], but Tbsg2006 persists in adding it. Could you please use some kind of template to remedy the situation? I'm really out of ideas here.
--Gyrobo (talk) 14:00, 18 May 2010 (UTC)

Okay, here's what I'll do. I'm adding the page to my watchlist, so I'll help revert when I can. Now, every time you revert his edits, add a template to his page. I just did a level 2, so the next two to use are {{subst:uw-nor3}} and {{subst:uw-nor4}}. After adding the last one, we can report him to WP:AIV and hopefully he'll get blocked. Good work keeping the article clean! PrincessofLlyr royal court 14:09, 18 May 2010 (UTC)
Thank you!
--Gyrobo (talk) 14:10, 18 May 2010 (UTC)
It looks like the info he added after your warning template actually had "(Vol. 37 issue 4 pp1739-1381)" in it [6], so I don't think that time it was really vandalism, just not a proper ref.
--Gyrobo (talk) 15:10, 18 May 2010 (UTC)
Thanks, I didn't notice that. I posted a note on his talk, so if he gives me the details of the ref I'll add the info for him. PrincessofLlyr royal court 15:18, 18 May 2010 (UTC)
The in-line citation referred to the medical journal he had just mentioned. Nevertheless, the whole passage seems more like a synthesis of ideas than genuine information. Still OR therefore. I have watchlisted also now (though my connection is awful at he moment—took me almost an hour to post a couple of comments elsewhere) --Jubileeclipman 15:52, 18 May 2010 (UTC)

Princess, I want rewrite my reference in a proprt format. Can you help me out? I am tbsg2006. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Tbsg2006 (talkcontribs)

Certainly. I can use either the URL if it's online or the details, such as publisher, publication date, the exact pages, authors, etc. If you can give me that information I can show you how to do it properly. PrincessofLlyr royal court 01:37, 19 May 2010 (UTC)

--Gyrobo (talk) 01:42, 19 May 2010 (UTC)
The first thing we need to know is which journal? Not the Indian one presumably, as there aren't enough volumes. Could be the AAPM one or the BMC one perhaps but the former's archives are for members only and the latter's are pretty complex. Also, the page numbers are messed up in (Vol. 37 issue 4 pp1739-1381). Is that pp1379-1381 or pp1739-1831 or something else again? Hope I haven't been too picky! --Jubileeclipman 02:11, 19 May 2010 (UTC)

You suggested that Mithril712 join the above WikiProject. But... how? Is it just me or are there no edit section tabs? Yes: you can edit the entire page but then you have to wade through to figure out where to put your name (and even then it's pretty complex). How and why have they suppressed the edit tabs? I checked it out in Chrome, FF and IE (though I was only logged in in Chrome) and couldn't see the [edit] thingy anywhere in any of them. Um --Jubileeclipman 01:41, 18 May 2010 (UTC)

Confusing. Thanks for catching that. I have given him the link to the participants page and posted a note on the project's talk page. Not sure how they remove the section links, but maybe the _TOC_ thing at the top? Again, thanks for telling me. I feel like such a terrible adopter! PrincessofLlyr royal court 01:51, 18 May 2010 (UTC)
No the TOC thing just adds a Table of Contents. You can use __NOTOC__ to surpress the Table of Contents. OTOH... why do they need __TOC__...? The ToC is generated automatically when you have more then three (?) sections. And if you check the history, the section links have never been there... Very weird --Jubileeclipman 01:57, 18 May 2010 (UTC)
I have figured this out. There is a template that messes the page up: see the project's talkpage --Jubileeclipman 23:14, 19 May 2010 (UTC)

Short Wikibreak

Just to let you all know that I won't be around this weekend. I am moving to my dad's and will have an enormous amount to deal with, Probably back Sunday or Monday --Jubileeclipman 21:18, 21 May 2010 (UTC)

Ok. Good luck. Brambleclawx 22:20, 21 May 2010 (UTC)
I think we're all sort of on wikibreak. If you haven't noticed, my editing has dropped - trying to finish up school stuff, find a job, etc. I hope the move goes well. PrincessofLlyr royal court 02:29, 22 May 2010 (UTC)
OK, good luck to y'all :)! Exams are next week and the week after for me, so don't expect much editing from me this weekend or next week... Airplaneman 02:33, 22 May 2010 (UTC)
My exams are end of June (I actually expect to have more time to edit that week). Anyways, Princess, I've replaced File:Button sig.png with File:Button sig new.png on your welcome template, since Vector has a new button and newcomers are likely to be using the default skin. Brambleclawx 19:33, 22 May 2010 (UTC)
Ah. Thanks! When do you start school that your exams are that late? PrincessofLlyr royal court 20:54, 22 May 2010 (UTC)

And for User:PrincessofLlyr/James U. Cross, if you make it quite good before moving it into the mainspace, you can get a DYK out of it. Your work will appear on the main page! Airplaneman 04:30, 23 May 2010 (UTC)

I was wondering when someone would notice that! I just started reading a book about him, came on here to find out more and was literally in shock that we did not have an article about him. Things will be a little slow working on it, but I figure it can be a pretty decent article. Anywho, I'm going to be off tomorrow and probably Tuesday. Depending on how things go, I may or may not be back on by Wednesday. Feel free (all of you) to handle any urgent queries or requests. PrincessofLlyr royal court 13:34, 23 May 2010 (UTC)
See Academic term#Canada. Its pretty close, except for the late december thing, as mine goes to late January. And nice article. If someone had told me about DYK earlier, I would've tried getting a DYK on Canadian Cat Association. Oh well... Brambleclawx 13:50, 23 May 2010 (UTC)
@Princess: You probably know, but {{Cite book}} is a good thing for the article. It has page numbers and stuff :). Airplaneman 14:13, 23 May 2010 (UTC)
I love the cite templates. Not sure if this happens to you though, but in Vector, the cite templates just insert themselves in seemingly random places. In Monobook, it used to insert itself at the top of the editing window, but now, I have to use Ctrl-F (the find function), to find the cite template. And the bug report people seem to have stopped responding to us. Brambleclawx 14:17, 23 May 2010 (UTC)
Try clicking where you want the template right before pressing "insert" (make sure there's a blinking cursor where you want it). See it that helps; works for me :). Airplaneman 14:36, 23 May 2010 (UTC)
Guess where it showed up? <center><div style="height: 65px; width: 242px; overflow: auto; border: thin solid<ref name="testing">{{cite book|last=Hunter|first=Erin|title=How to catch freshkill|year=2013|publisher=HarperCollins|isbn=978-0-06-0895432|pages=3.1415|url=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WP:DUCK}}</ref> blue; background: white">. It was supposed to show up right before your signature. You mean right before or after I finish filling out the fields for the template? I just tried choosing spot, then filling out the fields Brambleclawx 14:43, 23 May 2010 (UTC)
I just tried again, and the new one showed up right in the same spot! Brambleclawx 14:46, 23 May 2010 (UTC)
Yea, try filling out everything and then try :). I fill out everything, click where I want it, and then press insert. Airplaneman 16:53, 23 May 2010 (UTC)

I will remember to use the cite template, thanks! BTW, since you're both so good with formatting, do you want to create a page (edit) notice for me? I'm thinking it could play off the "royal court" thing, you know, something like, " Welcome to the court of the Princess of Llyr..." with a note about being civil, signing posts, and keeping conversations in one place. Sound good? Oh, and Aviator, how did you find my work in progress? PrincessofLlyr royal court 19:32, 23 May 2010 (UTC)

Cool request; I'll work on it during the week. I found your WIP through User talk:Bradjamesbrown :). Airplaneman 20:23, 23 May 2010 (UTC)
  • See. Told you it'd be short. And you've even managed to keep this thread short! wow. :) Thanks for fielding that question about my essay, !user page, experiment thingy, BTW, Aviator --Jubileeclipman 21:15, 23 May 2010 (UTC)
    • No problem; that's what friends not exactly, as I don't know you personally talk page stalkers are for! Airplaneman 21:48, 23 May 2010 (UTC)
Er... the I can't click in the edit area once the template-filling box shows up. Brambleclawx 22:56, 23 May 2010 (UTC)
I'll have a look at this Bram. I haven't explored the new Cite tool fully yet so it's time I did. I get back to you (or you can watch here --Jubileeclipman 23:07, 23 May 2010 (UTC)
You seem to have figured it out. You have to choose the place first, though, then bring up the box. Annoying if you realise you have chosen the wrong place just after you have filled in the fields but I suspect we will get used to it. Everything seems to work though, AFAICT --Jubileeclipman 23:42, 23 May 2010 (UTC)

I just wanted to let you know that I found enough information to verify the notablity for this golfer! Thanks, for alerting the golf project of this articles existance, so we could make it better!69.137.120.81 (talk) 03:37, 24 May 2010 (UTC)

Yay! I'm so glad. It looked like an article that could be good with work, so I didn't want it to be deleted. But I don't know anything about golf and how those articles are set up. Anyway, thanks! PrincessofLlyr royal court 04:00, 24 May 2010 (UTC)
