Hi Peter, thanks for your excellent images. Just a few points about captions

  • The caption should not normally include the name of the species the article is about. It's assumed the image is of that species
  • alt text is to help people with visual impairments who are using screen readers; it should therefore describe what is being shown. You might have something like this for American White Ibis alt = large white bird with long curved bill standing on a beach|On a beach in Florida Although only the second part is visible as a caption, a screen reader will speak the alt text too
  • The caption should describe the image. so Feeding on a beach is a caption, but this species has two flyways is not, unless your image is a map of the flyways.
  • Captions only end in a full stop if they are complete sentences

Hope this helps Jimfbleak - talk to me? 06:14, 18 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

PS: Good to see another bird-watcher as an editor. Getting an article to Good Article or Featured Article is a great way to preserve one's toil at wikipedia. The main barrier is finding sourcing for material. See here. cheers, Casliber (talk · contribs) 13:21, 18 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Edit summaries[edit]

Hey Peter, please always complete the edit summary when making edits so that other editors can see the reason for your edits. They should comprise of a brief description of what you changed and why so that the article history can be followed. Mfield (Oi!) 18:26, 18 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Edits to Bird[edit]

I have removed the section you added to bird's ecology section and moved it to the talk page for discussion. The section had no supporting citations and was (and you will have to forgive me for being honest here) below the standard required for a Featured Article, the reasons for which I have briefly explained in the talk page. I understand the gist of what you are trying to convey (birds provide important ecosystem services) and am happy to work with you on the talk page to try and get the point across in the article. Wikipedia principles[edit]

Hi there, I just noticed you had not been welcomed ! Some of the key principles can be found in the canned welcome message above and one of these - "Reliable sources" is of special importance. A reliable published source needs to be cited for any additions made. Shyamal (talk) 15:21, 19 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks messages[edit]

Please don't create file pages with "thanks" messages; these won't be seen by anyone and administrators have to spend time deleting them. If you want to thank someone, please use that user's talk page. Stifle (talk) 12:55, 20 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

NowCommons: File:Mourning Dove Perched.jpg[edit]

File:Mourning Dove Perched.jpg is now available on Wikimedia Commons as Commons:File:Mourning Dove Perched.jpg. This is a repository of free media that can be used on all Wikimedia wikis. The image will be deleted from Wikipedia, but this doesn't mean it can't be used anymore. You can embed an image uploaded to Commons like you would an image uploaded to Wikipedia, in this case: [[File:Mourning Dove Perched.jpg]]. Note that this is an automated message to inform you about the move. This bot did not copy the image itself. --Erwin85Bot (talk) 02:24, 4 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Canvasback picture[edit]

It seems your picture is not of a pure male Canvasback, but a Canvasback-Mallard hybrid. Frankyboy5 (talk) 23:19, 20 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Template:CC-BY-SA license listed at Redirects for discussion[edit]

An editor has asked for a discussion to address the redirect Template:CC-BY-SA license. Since you had some involvement with the Template:CC-BY-SA license redirect, you might want to participate in the redirect discussion if you have not already done so. — Godsy (TALKCONT) 06:11, 8 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
