comments associated with an afd

hi i'm a wiki newbie, but i'm interested on why you stripped out massive amounts of content on the pages of Hyperion Solutions Corporation, but the major competitor company Cognos Inc can have lines and lines of self-promoting info on how many thousands of customers they have... it seems to me to be double standards..

  • I answer you here as you don't have a user or talk page. You are mistaken, I didn't delete the text from the Hyperion Solutions Corporation article, it was user Isotope23 who edited after me as you can see here [1]. I only added the Afd which the article (rightly) survived! Optimale Gu 13:22, 2 June 2006 (UTC)

Richard Schulze

You may find some interest or merit in a comment I made on a user talk page at User_talk:Ombudsman#Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion.2FRichard_Schulze_.28naturopath.29.23Richard_Schulze_.28naturopath.29. Midgley 23:44, 2 April 2006 (UTC)

Please reconsider your vote on that. My research suggests that this person is just a self promoter and has added information to Amazon Wikipedia and other websites to create a false impression of notability. (see Wikipedia:Administrators'_noticeboard/Incidents#Possible_advertising_scam). Thanks Arniep 16:26, 5 April 2006 (UTC)

Hi it doesn't really make any difference whether he is related to Travolta if he actually is (there is no law against changing your name and claiming to be related to somebody). A look through the evidence on the afd pages suggests that just about everything that has been said is likely to be a fabrication for self promotion purposes and we should not allow Wikipedia to be used like that. Aquila Legis category

Hi, I saw you added the category 'United States' to Aquila Legis, a fraternity of a law school in the Philippines. I changed it to the category 'Philippines' as I didn't see any direct connection to the US and why it should be in that cat. Hope that is ok? Cheers. Gu 08:32, 7 April 2006 (UTC)

That's quite alright :) I got two browsers mixed up when I was going through the list a bit too fast. Thank you for the correction - have a good day.

Oh yah, Ancestry.com is masterful. Good for settling birth place/date/name issues, like Rachel Bilson. Btw, if you need to look something up, ask me, I've got a year-round subscription. Mad Jack O'Lantern 07:26, 3 May 2006 (UTC)

Er...you appear to have nominated the page for deletion, but nothing's happened yet on the WP:AfD page. Have you forgotten? Additionally, note this is NOT about the band, whose page was speedied 13 days before this version was created. --M1ss1ontomars2k4 01:06, 12 May 2006 (UTC)

I noticed your question on M1ss1ontomars2k4's talk page. The reason there was already a blue-link is that a previous article under that title had been AFD'd. If you still want to AFD it you should create the new AFD under Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Vigor_2 and make sure on the page it links to that discussion. Mak (talk) 14:45, 12 May 2006 (UTC)
OK. But I'd like to point out that this software is, in fact, fairly notable. More notable than, say, Keith Marlowe. The main problem is, I can't find criteria for notability for software. I'm sure this would pass; Vigor has provided many an overworked engineer with a good laugh. Keep me posted on AfD status. --M1ss1ontomars2k4 21:58, 12 May 2006 (UTC)

I have rewritten this article based on what links here and a reference in the Northern Ireland Yearbook. I would be grateful if you could take a look. Capitalistroadster 22:00, 15 May 2006 (UTC)

Posters, album covers, screenshots etc.

Please read the license agreements these fair use images have. See Wikipedia:Fair use Policy #8 "The material must contribute significantly to the article (e.g. identify the subject of an article, or specifically illustrate relevant points or sections within the text) and must not serve a purely decorative purpose." and other points. sorry i'm not as familiar with wiki policy. is it considered notable enough now? Theconroy 04:12, 5 June 2006 (UTC)

Re: Fair use of images

Please stop removing fair use images, this can be considered vandalism. If you have a concern please discuss on talk pages. Just because you think something is not fair use, it doesn't mean it isn't. For actors screenshots of movies are fair use, for models magazine covers are fair use, etc.! Please take the time to read the guidelines! Thanks. Optimale Gu 06:36, 13 June 2006 (UTC)

Hello, Optimale. As far as I understand, we may claim fair use of a movie screenshots when talking about the movie and not just about the actor/actress depicted (see the bold text on Template:movie-screenshot), we may claim fair use of a magazine cover to illustrate an article or section about the magazine itself, but not just about the person depicted on the cover (see the bold text on Template:Magazinecover). If you could educate me about those guidelines you talk about, I would greatly apreciate. Of course, I can commit mistakes in my edits, and you should not hesitate in being bold to fix them. And, if you have the willines, dorp me a note about it. Best regards, --Abu Badali 12:24, 13 June 2006 (UTC)

Image copyright problem with Image:Angelicak.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Angelicak.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the copyright status of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the copyright status of the image on the image's description page, using an appropriate copyright tag, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided copyright information for them as well.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

Orphaned fair use image (Image:Angelicak.jpg)

Warning sign
This media may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:Angelicak.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently specifies that the image can be used under a fair use license. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. — Rebelguys2 talk 05:56, 5 July 2006 (UTC)

There is a speedy delete tag for your own images, but, if it's already been tagged, I think it just takes up more of everyone's energy to have an admin look at and analyze a speedy tag on top of what I've already done. The easiest way is to let it sit if it's been tagged with one of the 'delete in 7 days' tags - less work for everyone, including you. Thanks. — Rebelguys2 talk 14:10, 5 July 2006 (UTC)

I thought "The debate is not a vote; please make recommendations on the course of action to be taken, sustained by arguments." Do the keep/delete count cause after looking at others it seems that it does not matter what people say but just look at the bold text. Feedyourfeet 11:56, 27 July 2006 (UTC)

Since you explained that you felt strongly about this article, I thought it would be polite to let you know that I have opened a vote. While I don't agree that emotional arguments should be considered in deciding the content of an encyclopedia, I do concede that you have a valid point about the language of WP:BIO. I decided the best option was to open a wider discussion and solicit the community's opinion. Cribcage 18:31, 18 September 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for uploading Image:Janemarch thelover.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Chowbok 20:29, 2 November 2006 (UTC)

  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

Fair use rationale for Image:Rachellampa.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Rachellampa.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot (talk) 20:27, 15 December 2007 (UTC)

Replaceable fair use Image:Stacykamano.jpg

Replaceable fair use
Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:Stacykamano.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the media description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, fair use media which could be replaced by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if not used in an article), per our Fair Use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. NAHID 16:53, 7 January 2008 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:Charytin.jpg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Charytin.jpg. please reconsider your vote on william Stephen Dare

There is apparently some confusion regarding his google test notability. He is written about mostly as "stephen dare". If you google check him this way you will see that there are actually multiple pages of listing and hundreds of articles and references. Thank you very much! I am working hard on this article, this guy is really an interesting and great addition. Carstenboswell.Carstenboswell 18:13, 5 April 2006 (UTC)carstenboswell
