April 2019[edit]

There have been two problems with this account: the account has been used for advertising or promotion, which is contrary to the purpose of Wikipedia, and your username indicates that the account represents a business or other organisation or group or a web site, which is also against policy, as an account must be for just one person. Because of those problems, the account has been blocked indefinitely from editing. Additionally, If you receive, or expect to receive, compensation for your contributions to Wikipedia, you must disclose who is paying you to edit.

If you intend to make useful contributions about some topic other than your business or organisation, you may request an unblock. To do so, post the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with a new username you are willing to use. See Special:CentralAuth to search for available usernames. Your new username will need to meet our username policy. Replace the text "Your reason here" with your reason to be unblocked. In that reason, you must:

  • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the kind of edits for which you were blocked.
  • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
If you believe this block was made in error, you may appeal this block. To do so, please read the guide to appealing blocks, then add the text {{unblock|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page, replace the text "Your reason here" with your reason for thinking that the block was an error, and publish the page. April 2019 Unblock Request[edit]

{{unblock-spamun|wdoughertyiii|I apologize if my choice of username has caused confusion. I do not represent a company. Being a member of the Doherty family and a lover of documented historical information, I care about the accuracy and completeness of the information on the web relating to the O'Doherty Family, thus was my username and choice of page to contribute to. Please change my username to wdoughertyiii, so that I am personally identifiable. Thank you.[[User:O'Doherty Heritage|O'Doherty Heritage]] ([[User talk:O'Doherty Heritage#top|talk]]) 19:15, 1 April 2019 (UTC)}}

Request reason:

My account was blocked for apparent advertising or promotion. I had no intention of this. I provided links to some of the most helpful and sites and key projects of the O'Doherty family. As I have no intention of withholding transparency, one of those links is a site that I manage https://www.odohertyheritage.org/. The site has no advertising, and I do not obtain any financial gain from it. I have additional contributors to the site and work under permission and review of the Association of O'Dochartaighs, the newly formed Clan Association. As I did not realize that blogs were blocked, the mention in the link title that the site contains a blog should be removed to comply with Wikipedia guidelines, however, the majority of that site is not a blog, but contains well-documented data covering a comprehensive scope of O'Doherty family history and heritage. If you feel that this is advertising because I am too close to the subject, perhaps I should let someone else be the one to add such a link, as it does not stray from the content or ideals of the other older clan sites already in the external links. If you don't feel that I've understood you, or that the explanation in this request doesn't sufficiently address the concerns causing this block, please provide more clarification. Thank you.O'Doherty Heritage (talk) 19:15, 1 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Decline reason:

Procedural decline only. This unblock request has been open for more than two weeks but has not proven sufficiently convincing for any reviewing administrator to take action. You are welcome to request a new block review if you substantially reword your request. Yamla (talk) 14:09, 18 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

This user's unblock request has been reviewed by an administrator, who accepted the request.

Request reason:

When I joined Wikipedia, I kind of got off on the wrong foot. I had created a username that did not meet Wikipedia guidelines and posted some content that was classified as promotional. I have changed my username to reflect my actual name and will not submit content that is promotional in nature. I plan to make edits adding credible sources to pages relating to history (such as Branches of the Cenél Conaill, O'Doherty family, and Northburgh Castle) and eventually would like to create a page giving information and sources about O'Doherty's Keep, a historic fortification being restored in Buncrana, Ireland. Thank you.

Accept reason:

Given the past issues, I'd like to know what "credible sources" we're talking about. See WP:Identifying reliable sources (and WP:ELNO) for the relevant guidelines on Wikipedia. Huon (talk) 01:30, 15 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@The Blade of the Northern Lights: That's a rather impressive list of sources, and I'd be inclined to accept the unblock request. What's your opinion? Huon (talk) 00:16, 16 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
