Adminship[edit]

OK from my experience as an editor I don't think it is far off FA standard -the only flaw I see is perhaps too many quotations which could be converted to encycloepdic text in places. I saw potential in the Abbas kiarostami article and thought it was worth pursuing for FA and I see the same here.-the content is definately there . You'll also be pleased to know that I've found a more efficient way of building the lists where I can preview then preview then preview etc and surmount the info as I go and can save info for like 20+ films in one go. Cast is then the only missing column which can then be filled in afterwards. e.g see American films of 1940 - I realised I could do this about half way thorugh them - after repetitive edits. There are so many articles that should be at least a B class but are stubs with no images often no infoboxes.

Once again warmest of congratulations for becoming an admin - I have refused many times at suggestions as it wasn't for me - I think I'm top on the list of non admins with edit count. I'm sure you'll be a model admin. Adios. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Blofeld of SPECTRE (talkcontribs) 19:58, 25 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Question for member of GA article sweeps[edit]

If you've got a moment, I was wondering if you could answer some questions I'm curious about? They are:

  1. What GA articles have you worked on and submitted to GA review?
  2. Have you ever worked at getting an article to FA status?

Hopefully won't take more than a moment of your time. - Ta bu shi da yu 13:54, 25 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Drew Carey episodes[edit]

Hi -- I saw your note on Wikipedia:Television episodes/Review about the Drew Carey episode pages that you created. Would you be interested in moving them over to a Drew Carey wiki on Wikia? If you would, then let me know; I can help you get it started. Hope you don't mind the message. -- Danny (talk) 19:22, 25 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Coordinator elections request[edit]

Hey...so it looks like we've thrown a party and gotten little response. I've consulted with User:Kirill Lokshin (created the Coordinator concept, originally for MilHist), and my proposal to keep interest in the election alive is to change the rules so as to allow self-noms to continue to be raised until the election's end. It would be better, IMHO, to have at least one more candidate, that way votes (and therefore community participation) will be necessary. However, I don't want to allow this without first running it through you and User:The Giant Puffin. Please let me know your thoughts on the matter. Many thanks! Mexico GA review[edit]

Hello Nehrams. First, I would like to congratulate you because of your recently acquired adminship. I wish you the best with your new duties and I honestly hope you make a great administrator. Well, the reason I'm here is because I saw you were the person in charge of reviewing Mexico article in the GA project. You failed the article but also didn't tell why.

I'm trying to get it GA listed again, but after I file the request I want to ask for your help. It would be highly appreciated if you could give me some pointers and tips to improve the article. In the past two days I tried to follow the example of GA listed articles such as United Kingdom and Canada.

Thanks in advance for your response. AlexC. ( Talk? ) 09:46, 29 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Oh God, I apologize for not seeing your message with the reasons for the failed GA case. I think it was because my PC broke up in May, and I bought a new one until August. I just looked in the GA project page and saw that you failed Mexico and thought you didn't say why. Sorry again and thanks for your willingness to help us out. AlexC. ( Talk? ) 20:17, 29 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Nehrams. Whoa, quite a list you wrote. It looked very long at first, but now I have made an important advance. Take a look and tell me what you think. AlexC. ( Talk? ) 05:48, 1 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello again. I'm almost done with the GA work. I'm updating the references and changing them to the Template:cite web template. Can you check it out and tell me if that's ok? AlexC. ( Talk? ) 05:54, 3 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, hate to bug ya, but I've added quite a bit to this article since your last assessment, and think I'm 'bout outta sources. Would ya care to have a looksy and see if I've gotten up a notch? Cheers! Murderbike 01:48, 1 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Heh, I figured you might say that. I almost ordered the book the other day (I've only read the actual biography of the guy the book was loosely based on), but didn't. I'll try to do that soon. Thanks for looking at it though! Murderbike 08:28, 1 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:I the juryposter.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:I the juryposter.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 07:12, 1 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Backlog at WP:GAR[edit]

I have noticed that you are a frequent reviewer at that Good Articles project. good article reassessment is experiencing a considerable backlog problem. There are several articles dating from August that still have not generated enough discussion to close. Could you please take a look at the oldest articles and make some fresh comments on them? Please note that some of these have undergone signigicant changes since they first came to GA/R; please judge the article only on its merits as of its current version. If you reviewed an earlier version of any of these articles, please also consider re-reading them and either revise or endorse any earluer comments you have made. Thanks for your help with this! --Jayron32|talk|contribs 02:42, 2 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Ben Stiller[edit]

No problem. A couple of the reverts preceding yours were mine, and I managed to miss the missing-refs problem as well. (I didn't review all the edits, but someone seems to have copied and pasted from the displayed page rather than reverting or copying from a diff, so that the reference numbers appeared but the actual refs were lost.) Botteville on battle of Thermopylae[edit]

Thanks for contacting me. I'm probably the closest thing to an "expert" you are going to get. When I first saw that article it was in terrible shape. I'm the one who brought it to the "good" status. I did notice the article is very much in the public view. First there are the student cadets and the military enthusiasts. Second, the article has reached an international audience, and one that is not always sympathetic to western ideals. Unfortunately a greater audience means a greater number of vandals - I suppose vandalism is a certain percentage range of the total audience. What you are seeing now in the article is vandalism. Some vandals are very clever. They can make their changes look like real information to those who know nothing of the subject and there is a lot of that in there. I followed the article for a long time. Then I got off onto other things, where I am now. This article is so difficult to keep clean because you have some very determined enemies of the United States and of western culture on it all the time. For example, there is at least one Iranian who keeps trying to insert pro-Iranian propaganda or distort the classical picture in favor of the Persians. He is very determined. Our enemies are not going to allow us freedom of speech and the search for truth wherever that should lead. Either we think their way or they are going to kill our articles, which is easy enough to do. But also this battle has found its way into pop culture. As you have a larger percentage of teenagers looking at it, there is a larger percentage of wall-scribblers and people that like to tell inappropriate jokes to the public anonymously.

So what are we going to do? We can write good articles but to keep good articles on there is another thing. I'm not sure Wikipedia has that capability. But I keep trying. If you want I can drop the other things I am trying to work on and make another detailed pass through with an eye toward restoration and condensation. Some things are obvious. As for the issues on the discussion page some of them have been there for a long time and don't really apply. But after I make my detailed pass I can check just to make sure. The problem is, a lot of it is the wild-eyed raving of people having a severe emotional reaction to the historical event. So, I would have to just dismiss that out of hand. I'm not inclined to waste my time locking horns over elementary things with babbling babies who are really interested in fighting the good Thermopylae against all parents, teachers and cops. Nor am I interested in duelling with persons who will never be anything but enemies of our culture(s) and way(s) of life.

What do you want me to do? Shall I start? Why don't you tell me exactly what about the article bothers you? There is another point also. Since I worked seriously on this another million and a half articles have appeared. Many of the concepts might now actually be in supporting articles so links would take care of them.Dave 00:36, 17 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I've been working on footnotes and citations so I think I will start with them as they are in awful shape.Dave 02:01, 17 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I seem to be the only one on it and even as I work the schoolboy vandals make free. I don't think a few hours will do it, no. It may not be done in the 7 days hold. We may have to let it slip and then someone will renominate if it ever becomes stable again. It does need to be checked line by line, as I say. One form of vandalism has been to throw in pseudo-notes, references that no can can verify or when looked up do not verify what they say they verify. And there is still some unfinished business from the period leading up to the good article status. I think the evaluation is an effective incentive but the article right now is NOT good and it will take some effort to get it good on the one hand while fending off vandals on the other. So, I'm going a bit slower so I will not have to give up other things but generally I plan to fix the notes first. If you get other volunteers do throw them on it.Dave 15:28, 17 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Getting coordinated[edit]

Just wanted to give you a heads up that I will be putting together a more formal work area and starting to bounce around ideas in the next few days. In the meantime, if you like puzzles and creative guesswork, you might be able to decipher some of my thoughts currently written on my userpage. (A preview, I suppose.) :) Girolamo Savonarola 04:41, 18 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, I've started to carve a space at WT:FILMC. There's still a fair bit of work remaining for that page itself, and some outstanding red links I'm working on, but I think that it's ready enough now for viewing, and we can start discussing any raised issues. Additionally, I've sorted out the unasssessed snafu, so I've put the backlog on the Irregular Tasks list. We also should be implementing a new task force soon, and will probably be doing some task force tagging runs in the next few weeks. Watchlist this page if you haven't already, and I look forward to joining you to get our hands dirty! :) Girolamo Savonarola 19:09, 23 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Suffice it to say that's much more important! In any case, I don't want you guys to think that I'm breathing down your necks - as always in wiki, what you can when you can. In fact, with the page set up now, I probably am not going to message you again about coordinator stuff unless it's urgent; we'll use the page to communicate. In any case, keep up the good work you're doing (and I'm not talking about the 'pedia). Girolamo Savonarola 01:26, 24 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

San Diego[edit]

I know you said that you wouldn't review Preity Zinta for neuatrality purposes but could you give me an idea of who could proof read it for an A class? ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "Talk"? 19:46, 19 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Its OK I've found the A-class nomination page for biography. Luckily there are only four or five unlike the GA nomination page which has hundreds. In my view the article is every bit as good as some existing FA articles on actors and with some minor adjustments I think can go all the way. I'm making good progress on the American films I just wish people would take more of an interest in it. I have been working on even years e.g 1940, 1942, 1944 , 1946 etc e.g see American films of 1956. So far I've reached 1962 and have looked at hundreds of films. When I reach 2006 I'll go back and do the odd years in the same way. Then when this is done I'll clean through and add all the cast for everything and finally will check imdb by year and add all the missing films to each year so we have complete cinema guides for each year in American film history. Then all the articles can be started or processed to reach at least start class status. I am quite disappointed that nobody aise from yourself from WP Films has bothered to help me. I think it will be an excellent resource when complete ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "Talk"? 15:15, 21 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

GA review, revisited[edit]

  • Back in July, you took the time to take a look at the article Elli Perkins, which was up for a GA review, which you later failed after some points were not addressed. I took the liberty of addressing all of your points, save one, the info on the family in the Aftermath section, but I hope that is not a critical sticking point. Could I trouble you to take a second look at this article for GA consideration, considering nothing has really materially changed much in the article since then? Thanks so much. Re: messages on my talk page, and comments at Bommarillu[edit]

Hi!

I assumed good faith, or you would've received the appropriate message from me regarding Wikipedia's rules etc. I was pointing out how your remark could be perceived (I'm glad you've clarified your stance), and what could be said to avoid creating such perceptions (i.e. through a more careful choice of words). In any case, I did consider all your points (at the time - feels like it was ages ago), so I extracted the valid points, and prioritised the point(s) that could warrant a de-listing. Even if another editor brought it up to GAR later, they would have to change something on the talk page which we've kept on 'watch' - so we'd be alerted to this immediately. In the unlikely case we weren't around at Wikipedia anymore, then it really wouldn't matter, because it could be brought up to GAR yet again on our return.

Your point about letting new editors get a feel for fair use rationales is fine - but it'd always be better to include this point about why you yourself haven't made such an 'easy to fix' change. Based on your writings, I've reconsidered your point about elaborate, and agree. However, I still strongly disagree with your point regarding 'rave'. The sources weren't limited to just one review (so saying a particular editor is trying to make the film sound great is absurd (the reviews are more than just 'positive' - but even so, whether you call it positive or rave, it's still a subjective call). As for the point about negative reviews; unless the editor who is claiming POV can bring out evidence to substantiate their claim of POV (in this case, negative reviews of this particular film), then it will be found that there is no case. POV is a finite concept in the area of reviews (because editors do have the ability to find reviews to the contrary), and for this reason, editors can't base a POV claim by making assertions of 'it may be or it may not be in this case' when a definite answer can be found. Having said that, the first time I did read the article, I had a concern about the lack of negative reviews in comparison, but without finding to the contrary, this isn't a point I can raise. However, I should've articulated the concern and my findings so future editors can check for themselves.

It's not that I don't appreciate your review, because let me emphasise: I do appreciate it! However, I didn't appreciate the (arguably careless) choice of words at some points which was why I found it necessary to go through your review and edit it.

My fellow editor (who is undoubtedly the main editor of this article) would like some more feedback on how to make it to FA status - I request you give that to him with a lot of specifics (because, as you know, the criteria for these articles are often very broad). I myself have decided I'd rather not give more detail on how to make this article an FA because, in my view, this can been as extremely difficult with the limited sources a film of this nature would have.

On another note, I hope the fires in your area are contained soon.

Thanks, take care, and regards,

Ncmvocalist 09:54, 27 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

We probably could find a more neutral word, yet one that doesn't play it down so much either, but I suppose as you've rightly pointed out, it's minor and almost insignificant. I'm familiar with the FA process, but, an article of this kind is something I don't know enough as to how to improve to such status - while I can identify an FA article, it's very different when it comes to producing such an article. He'd appreciate any help you give him. :) You're welcome, and likewise, I'm glad we could clarify all this too, and best wishes for your future FA article. :) Ncmvocalist 08:14, 28 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Officeunionjack.jpg)[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Officeunionjack.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Preity Zinta FA[edit]

Hi there. The Preity Zinta article has recently achieved A-class status. Due to the wealth of support I have decided to now nominate for an FA class article which I believe and judging by the comments of others is pretty much up to. In my view it is better than some existing FA actor articles. I know you said something about not being neutral but would therefore be very grateful if you could give it a final review in your own time and leave your comments and views at Wikipedia:Featured article candidates/Preity Zinta. Thankyou, your comments are always valuable. ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "Talk"? 12:09, 1 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Timon Ma UncleMax.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Timon Ma UncleMax.jpg. I appreciate your response. As I say, it is not an important issue to me one way or the other. Hilary Duff GAN review[edit]

my internet connection is not working and it may take 2-3 days to get it fixed....so i'll not be able to work on Hilary Duff article till sunday or monday....i'm trying but cannot commit about the 7-day deadline.... anyways thanx for the feedback and i'll get to the article as soon my net connection is fixed.Gprince007 (talk) 04:10, 22 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi....i've addressed almost all the issues raised by you while you kept the Hilary Duff on hold for a GA review. I hope that the article now meets the GA criteria and wish that you'd find the article in order. The article now looks way better with citations than it did a few days ago and i think that u'll not hesitate to promote it to GA status. A couple of points (maybe 2 or 3) raised by you couldnt be addressed, the reason for which is given on the Talk page of the article. If anything else needs to be done then do let me know. Thanx for the feedback and lookin forward to hear from you...Gprince007 (talk) 14:52, 25 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Hi...i've fixed 2 out of 3 points listed by you with regard to GAN review of Hilary Duff article:
  1. I removed the images because i feel that it depicts the movie in which she starred rather than Hilary herself. Also having burnt my fingers a few weeks ago with an image of Ashley Tisdale which i uploaded, i've decided not to upload any images till i get the wiki image policy straight. so instead of downloading the 3 images and reducing it to 300px and then uploading it,i've decided to remove it.
  2. I've explained the "elsewhere" phrase in the article.
  3. This is the difficult part. This sentence has been in the article for quite some time now and it states in the hidden comment in the article that she made this statement on TRL (Total request live). I've searched a lot on the net but am unable to find a source/cite for this becos she must have said this while Live on TV. I found some blog/fan sites/user generated content sites which say the same thing but these sites cannot be used as a source. so what do u suggest???...shd i add "Duff stated on TRL that it was not her greatest hits album ..." or do i need to delete the whole sentence??...well this one sentence seems to be the only problem which is holding up the road to GA. pls advice...Gprince007 (talk) 15:26, 27 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I have fixed 90% of the suggestions that you wrote on the talk page, and all there is left really is cleaning up the inline references. I think the way it is now would be enough to pass GA- but of course that is me :P Monsieurdl (talk) 05:10, 24 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Timebomb91.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Timebomb91.jpg.

Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 19:51, 26 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for passing Hilary Duff as GA[edit]

I just wanted to thank you for passing Hilary Duff article as a GA. Your constructive criticisms have certainly helped in improving the article. This was the first time i nominated an article for GA and i'm very happy that it got promoted. The next step i guess, is to get it to FA level in the near future. Any help/feedback/constructive criticism regarding the article is welcome. Again, Thanks for the feedback and it was wonderful working with you. Cheers!!! Orphaned non-free media (Image:FGEmissionImpossible.jpg)[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:FGEmissionImpossible.jpg.

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 20:13, 30 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

WikiProject Films November 2007 Newsletter[edit]

The November 2007 issue of the Films WikiProject newsletter has been published. You may read the newsletter, change the format in which future issues will be delivered to you, or unsubscribe from this notification by following the link. Thank you.
This has been an automated delivery by BrownBot 02:16, 1 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It would have been nice to see a mention of the Wikipedia:WikiProject Films/Southeast Asian cinema task force in the November newsletter, since the task force was approved last month. I guess I should have personally seen to that, but suppose I assumed that possibly some of the other coordinators/editors in the project would think that it was newsworthy enough to mention, without me needing to bug anybody about it.

That may sound like criticism, and I suppose it is. That said, I'd like to learn more about the project's newsletter, so I can pitch in and make sure stuff I think needs to be mentioned gets mentioned. How can I be involved with the editing of the newsletter? At what point does it go live for editing before it is spammed out on the user pages? If you could make the newsletter process transparent to me, I'd appreciate it. Thanks for your work. — WiseKwai 08:06, 1 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Wow. Thanks for the heartfelt apology. I went ahead and added an item about the new task force. I realize there is lots of stuff going on. I miss a lot of things, too. I'll try to keep an eye out for when the link to the next newsletter goes blue, and I'll add it to my watchlist. I'd be interested in providing regular updates about the progress of the task forces I'm involved with, namely SE Asia and film festivals. — WiseKwai 08:51, 1 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fight Club in popular culture[edit]

Hi, Fight Club in popular culture was deleted per discussion some time ago. I was wondering if it would be possible for you to retrieve the last revision and userfy it on a subpage of mine. I am trying to improve Fight Club (film)#Societal impact, and I think at the end of the popular culture article's run, there were some valid attempts to provide secondary sources. If you could put the information at User:Erik/Fight Club in popular culture, that would be appreciated! —Erik (talkcontrib) - 18:56, 1 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you very much -- for the userfication and for the GA compliment! I'm hoping to make Fight Club (film) a top-tier Featured Article... I think we need a more current example of such an article based on the newer guidelines we have, especially regarding images. Hope all is well, and happy editing! —Erik (talkcontrib) - 03:23, 2 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I've taken some usual information from the article, but it definitely deserved the AfD -- the so-called clean-up was a massive compilation of soundbites to provide an authoritative perspective of how the film is in popular culture. I think I'm better off utilizing the numerous academic studies that will cover this matter better. Anyway, thanks again for helping out! —Erik (talkcontrib) - 04:51, 2 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Pettigrew State Park[edit]

I just typed up and lost a reply to your GA review. (Sigh) I was on a roll. Hopefully I can remember what I wrote. I am getting pretty tired.

Thanks for the review! The first three fixes were easy and I should've caught them earlier.

I have a resource that I will use to expand the fish information, but not tonight. I looked on flickr for more pics of the park and lake and didn't find any. I don't live very close to the park, 3 hours away or more, so I probably won't be able to get a pic myself. Are the two pics of the park good enough for now? Bird, plant and animal pics should be easy to get on commons, but they won't be of a cypress, heron or whatever at Pettigrew State Park, they'll just be pics of the critters in question. Is that okay?

Thanks again and good night! Dincher 05:05, 2 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

We just took a short wikitrip to Jones Lake State Park and Singletary Lake State Park. I don't think my wife would appreciate another "wikipedia trip", especially such a long one! =) Although I wish I could. Anyway. I think I have addressed all your suggestions and concerns, but probably made a few new mistakes. I am waiting to hear back. Thanks again. Dincher 19:51, 2 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

When you have the time, please give the article another look. Also, since this article has had a WP:MILHIST peer review and there are plans in the works for an eventual A-class review and FAC, please use {{ArticleHistory}} instead of {{GA}}. Hey Nehrams,

Saw you shrank down the size on the Strange Wilderness poster to comply with FU requirements. Just so I don't upload the wrong size again, can you simplify my understanding on why the image shouldn't be larger than a particular size?

How do I decide what poster size is best if I was to ever change one out or add one again? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Casbboy (talkcontribs) 21:21, 13 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
