Porters climate info[edit]

Hi, you recently added this information: [1] Where did it come from exactly? I'm a bit skeptical about the precipitation figures in particular: 114mm for Oct, 29mm for Nov, 104mm for Dec? What year range are these figures averaged over? Thanks. Stevage 22:58, 2 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The meteorological data is from our 3 automatic weather stations. Data from this automatic weather station has been collecting since 2005 and contains 205 thousands records (other automatic weather stations since 1998).

NZSnowman (talk) 02:44, 3 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hmm, only 5 years? Perhaps it should say so - most readers would assume the data covers a longer range than that. Also, is there a website where this data is published that you could cite? Otherwise it risks violating the No Original Research rule - you shouldn't publish new data on Wikipedia, you should publish it somewhere else first. Stevage 00:36, 6 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the information about the data and for your help with this. After hearing from you the first time I did add a cite illustrating the time period for the data. The data has been used and is cite in several MSc thesis and Honours Research Project from the University of Canterbury and also included (in prep) in a scientific papers for the New Zealand Journal Geology and Geophysics. Should I list all these cite?

File copyright problem with File:Sighom1.JPG[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:Sighom1.JPG. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the file. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their license and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 21:37, 12 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on File:Sighom1a.JPG requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the image is an unused redundant copy (all pixels the same or scaled down) of an image in the same file format, which is on Wikipedia (not on Commons), and all inward links have been updated.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hang on}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion, or "db", tag; if no such tag exists, then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hang-on tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Notice regarding File:Sighom1.JPG[edit]

Instead of creating a new image with copyright info., just add {{Self}} to the original under a section labeled "Licensing". Guoguo12--Talk--  21:55, 12 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, for the information. I am very new to Wikipedia, how do I update the "Licensing"? NZSnowman (talk) 22:06, 12 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I was able to work it out NZSnowman (talk) 22:14, 12 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry I wasn't around to help, but I'm glad you figured it out anyway. If you ever need help, feel free to ask at my talk page. Good luck! Guoguo12--Talk--  23:44, 12 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Categories[edit]

Hi NZSnowman. To add a category to a page just type Category:Name of category. If the category doesn't exist yet, you can create it by following the red link. To create a new category you basically just need to put it in one or more parent categories. But don't create categories unless there are at least several (say 5-10) pages to go in it and it should probably have potential for expansion too. For more info see Wikipedia:Categorization. Wow[edit]

Thanks for those two amazing images:

You may want to consider nominating them for Featured Picture status. Info on how to do that is here, if you need any help, leave a message on my talk page. Thanks, Acather96 (talk) 07:15, 22 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your kind words! You can see more of my grasshoppers pictures at Alpinacris tumidicauda, Brachaspis robustus, Sigaus childi, Sigaus homerensis, & Sigaus villosus. NZSnowman (talk) 10:35, 22 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

U-1308[edit]

Hi NZSnowman, just to let you know, I've copied this from the U-1308 page:

For the moment I'll concentrate on this article, (U-1308), as there is quite a lot to do. Articles for Alberich (with a modern picture) and Schnorchel already exist. Balkongerät would have to be started from scratch and since I know diddly-squat about it, I'll let you take the lead.

Regards

Mount Hutt fauna[edit]

Would you mind adding a reference to the Mount Hutt article? It's a poorly referenced article as it is, so we shouldn't make it any worse. Schwede66 16:19, 18 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I have added the missing reference, do I need any additional information? NZSnowman (talk) 18:54, 18 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. New Challenge for Oceania and Australia[edit]

Hi, Wikipedia:WikiProject Oceania/The 10,000 Challenge and Wikipedia:WikiProject Australia/The 5000 Challenge are up and running based on Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge which has currently produced over 2300 article improvements and creations. The Australia challenge would feed into the wider region one and potentially New Zealand could have a smaller challenge too. The main goal is content improvement, tackling stale old stubs and important content and improving sourcing/making more consistent but new articles are also welcome if sourced. I understand that this is a big goal for regular editors, especially being summertime where you are, but if you'd like to see large scale quality improvements happening for Oceania and Australia like The Africa Destubathon, which has produced over 1700 articles in 5 weeks, sign up on the page. The idea will be an ongoing national editathon/challenge for the region but fuelled by a series of contests to really get articles on every province and subject mass improved. The Africa contest scaled worldwide would naturally provide great benefits to Oceania countries, particularly Australia and attract new editors. I would like some support from existing editors here to get the Challenges off to a start with some articles to make doing a Destubathon worthwhile and potentially bring about hundreds of improvements in a few weeks through a contest! Cheers.♦ --MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 02:12, 24 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Invitation to an in-person meetup in Mohua / Golden Bay[edit]

Golden Bay Air are holding some seats for us until 21 November

Thinking about your summer break? Think about joining other Wikipedians and Wikimedians in Golden Bay / Mohua! Details are on the meetup page. There's heaps of interesting stuff to work on e.g. the oldest extant waka or New Zealand's oldest ongoing legal case. Or you may spend your time taking photos and then upload them.

Golden Bay is hard to get to and the airline flying into Tākaka uses small planes, so we are holding some seats from and to Wellington and we are offering attendees a $200 travel subsidy to help with costs.

Be in touch with Schwede66 if this event interests you and you'd like to discuss logistics. Schwede66 09:14, 13 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
