Your input there would also be welcome if you feel this category has similar if lesser ontological strengths. It seems that Dr. Submillimeter is very much against broad orthogonal and interdisciplinary categories, but personally I think that is where some of the real benefits of Wikipedia'a structure come to the fore. License tagging for Image:Systems Requirement Analysis.jpg

I've been planning to work on the page for some time. We'll get it in good shape. There is a lot of good content on the page, but it is just poorly organized and needs a lot of clarification and cleaning. I have been around, but am still new to the page and have worked on it simply in recognizing that it was in a sorry state before. I have not had any problems with the wikipedia administration. I know that there were questions over the gestalt image. I have gone through the archives to ensure that the all issues that users have addressed will be resolved in the best way possible. It seems that Tommy Mandel was involved in the renaming of the page to systems theory (really, I would have no issues over renaming the page to General Systems Theory). Tommy also had some issues with the gestalt image (which I commented on given all the disruption over the image). He secured copyright information for the use of the image. I will contact him if he would like to add it to the page. The page itself now is not perfect, but progressing.--Kenneth M Burke 00:04, 14 May 2007 (UTC)

Hi, I saw you nominated this image for speedy deleting. The reason why I created this document was that because I'm working with the Wikipedia:WikiProject Systems to improve the quality of systems related articles. One of my actions is to stimulate the use of pictures in the about 300 (to 1000) related articles. One way to stimulate this is to draw attention to this pictures by getting them listed in the systems categories.

If this is against Wikipedia policies I would like to know... and off cause stop my intitaitves in this direction (and you can do some more work in the field of systems). So please tell me which official policy I offended? - Mdd 18:37, 16 May 2007 (UTC)

I'm not sure if there's an exact rule that deals with this issue. However, pictures that are on commons are usually not put in Wikipedia categories. You are more than welcome to add them to categories on commons, and then add {{commonscat}} to the main category to link it to the commons category (the same template works with articles). By this you'd be achieving the same purpose without mixing articles and commons pictures in the same galleries. Anyway, good luck with your work on WikiProject Systems. Hello Alexandrov. Sorry for not specifically explain my edits. Yesterday I cleaned the scientific modeling (which I created) from about 50 articles and categories... We both know top-categories like this one needs a firm clean up once in a while, otherwise they get deleted themeselves. Now I took about an hour to make about some 70 edits, and I made little explainations. I'm willing though to explain all the moves in details if one askes. With cleaning such categories there are all kinds of reasons... sometimes even difficult to explain:
Now you referted my recategorisation from the article Geometric model from the scientific modeling to specifics models back to the scientific modeling with the reason:
  • rv, this category is better
The recategorisation was an example of such a complex reasoning. It goes like this:
  1. Within the scientific modeling a subcategory specifics models is created to contain all the articles about specific models in all kinds of fields, that can't be placed in the other subcategories of the scientific modeling and the subcategory of the [[:category|specifics models].
  2. The scientific modeling is a kind of top category which should be rather strickly or exclusive. the two criteria I use are:
  3. The article must be about modelling and not models, and should be named ...modelling in stead of ... model.
  4. The one exception is for articles called ... model, that are about models in one broad line of sciences.
  5. Now about the article Geometric model. That article itselve isn't conform the Wikipedia rules, that an article should have one subject. That article limbs on two leggs. Geometric modell and geometric modelling. Now the article is called geometric modell, a choice of the editors I respect, then the most logical place within the scientific modeling category structure is, the specifics models.
I can image however, that you find the name specifics models misleading. But this is an othter problem. I hope I have explained my actions in a way you can give respond to details you don't like. I look forward to your respons - Mdd 13:20, 18 May 2007 (UTC)

Wikiproject Systems

It's a pleasure to meet you Mdd! Thank you for the warm welcome. Our integrated program did indeed start a Wikipedia page last year as our program (ISBT) was specifically mentioned on the WP page for our school, La Salle University. Our hope was to describe the program's framework in Systems Thinking (specifically GST), but it's place and purpose on WP became mixed up with the need to keep a single department's information on WP and it was removed. Around the same time, we had launched our own Mediawiki-based wiki for our program. It is located here if you are interested. Systems Thinking has worked extremely well for us in the design of our integrated program. No categorisation of users in the main categories

While not wanting to engage in verboten editorial activities, it is also true that I am a practicing and recognised researcher of cellular automata, and properly I belong in the list. The difficultly I think is that my name is my use ID. Also, it is not reasonable for another to modify my user page. A note on the discussion section of the user page is the gentile mechanism to express concern. Thank you for bringing the issue to my attention. Have you alternative suggestions? William R. Thanks for bringing this to my intention. First of all I agree, that it is not reasonable for another to modify other user page. But illegitimate ativities should be accepted as an expecetion. I didn't start a discussion about it because categorisation of users in the main categories is not done. It's not negoiable. I did explain and apologize in the summarry.
Now I don't doubt, that your a practicing and recognised researcher of cellular automata. The philosophy in Wikipedia remains, that if your notable enough, somebody else will right an article about you.

Hi, sorry for clogging up your talk page with those annoying boilerplate templates. I'm using a special tool to tag images with, and it automatically puts the template on the user's talk page. I'm not targeting you in any way — it's just that the article I was at had a lot of images that were uploaded by you. I just want to let you know that I've also orphaned Image:Brian Mar.jpg and Image:David Long.jpg. We don't use non-free images of living people, as they are considered to be replaceable, and we don't use non-free images in lists or galleries. I haver taken a look at it and I think it's a good start. I however also think, that all the notable ideas and influences mentioned, should (eventually) be explained in the article itselve (for example in subchapters in the work-section I just created there). Odum quotes

Thanks for your note on my userpage. I saw your edits. You have done major work, and as you say there is yin and yang in what has been done. I think some of the quotes should be left in for effect. I'll leave it alone for now, however I would like to see some of the quotes in the text of the article because they are challenging, give a good representation of the man's thinking, and hence, should not be relegated to the footnotes. I agree that we have better things to do. I'm working in the field of systems and in a while I will bring about 100 to 500 articles up to one standard. So if you can help me with this I'll be very gratefull.
Now I've been looking at the WP:LAYOUT for some times. And I have read:

Standard appendices and descriptions

Certain optional standard sections should be added at the bottom of an article. There is consensus that the plural form of the section name should be used. Changing section names breaks links (hence the utility of permalinks), so it is best not to change already-established article section names. Common appendix sections:

  1. Quotations (deprecated)
  2. See also
  3. Notes
  4. References (or combined with "Notes" into Notes and references)
  5. Further reading (or Bibliography)
  6. External links

Note:

  • It is okay to change the sequence of these appendices, but the Notes and References sections should be next to each other. For example, you may put "Further reading" above "Notes and references" or vice versa.

I don't exactly understand your question? Do you want to know, how I made created the User:Mdd/New Cybernetics page? The answer is like all other sub-userpages, which is like creating an archive in an articls talkpage. Now there are several ways:
  • The first is to start a search, for example, I start search for "User:Mdd/Example". If you push go the editor automatically asks you, if you want to create this page. Say yes an up you can go.
  • An other way is to write down the term User:Mdd/Example temporary i.e. on your userpage, click on the term and the editor again asks you.
  • You can also just go to your userpage, and add /Example to the internetadress. For example http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Mdd/Example, and then click on it.

Thanks, you are early. I made some progress on the Ackoff page. This page is special to me because it was the first page I ever started in 2004 on the English Wikipedia. I recently started upgrading this article. But I think more work can be done. If you have any idea's please let me know.

I wikified the article some more, and with this I created space for the further development of the article. The article can use for example some more introduction and info on how and where this concept is applied. All Articles also needs to be references. Some tips:
  1. Look at "System equivalence" in Google BETA and you find dozends of books were the concept is explained some more (or less)
  2. Look in comparable articles in Wikipedia, how they are build.
And maybe most important, find out what you want to say about this concept yourselve and try to write this down. Good luck - Mdd 13:09, 10 October 2007 (UTC)

I just fixed a couple of spelling errors ("untill"->"until"). Also, you might want to work on the last paragraph ("Since 1994..."), a couple of the sentences are grammatically incorrect or ambiguous - let me know if you'd like any assistance from someone whose native tongue is English. Earlier, I saw that in at least one case you too removed an article's link to Engineering Learning Wiki. Since then, I have been in a discussion with the sponsor of this wiki and have come to the preliminary conclusion that Wikipedia articles linking to ELW would be appropriate. W. Brian Arthur

I received your comments about the edits I have been making. Thank you for your comments and concerns. The communication process here is not very straight forward so I am not sure if/when you will receive this note.

I am new to the Wikipedia process and do not want cause any issues. My edits are intended to add value, not detract from value. I have been making a number of edits to improve the grammatical and content value related to Brian Arthur's works. He has written a number of papers important to business, scientific, and economic topics.

I met with Brian Arthur over the weekend when he was at the Santa Fe Institute to get confirmation of the information listed on this/his page. I expect to make some further edits, but will stop after these further edits are done.

I have received two automated responses from the Wikipedia bots, both of which I worked to correct. I was given permission to use the photo of W. Brian Arthur by Brian Arthur. I don't know how to complete the Wikipedia usage process to ensure complete authorization.

At that moment I wasn't aware of the possibility to add the two sentences together to make the introduction more complete. I was still to busy trying to find the idea I wanted to express. Often with those first sentences I find it very difficult to compose just the three right sentences. I took a second look at the sentence you referted and I now think your right.
