Hi[edit]

Hello Kevin,

I am one of your online ambassadors. I am around to help you out, You can contact me by email or on my talk page. Since I'm in Australia my timezone is quite different to yours. I have no special knowledge of molecular biology, but I am hoping that you can write so that I can understand it! Graeme Bartlett (talk) 11:23, 2 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Unit 7 Work[edit]

Hey Kevin, I was wondering if you wanted to start off the Unit 7 part of the project by deciding whose sandbox we would do the work in? Do you have a preference? BigA726 (talk) 21:20, 8 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, I didn't hear from you, but i wanted to get started, so I posted my initial research on articles and my ideas for some sections on my sandbox. Let me know what you think.BigA726 (talk) 00:38, 10 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Adam, Sorry I was out of town for the weekend. I will take a look at your sandbox and we can get things started.Luyao Kevin Xu (talk) 01:30, 10 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Editing the HATs and HDAC sections[edit]

Hey Kevin,

I wanted to get your opinion on the editing of my HAT/HDAC sections. Jhayes21 reviewed the article and said it'd be a good idea to divide up the HAT and HDAC sections into subsections. I was wondering what you thought of this? I think it would add a bit more organization, but one of the problems i run into with this is that by organizing the paper like that, it'll basically be a rehash of the actual pages on HATs and HDACs. I was trying to keep it as an overall explanation, but what do you think?BigA726 (talk) 21:24, 6 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Its not a bad idea. I think you should do a general introduction of HATs and HDACs. Then you can highlight the important ones individually. Just go over some of the papers and talk about their importance.Luyao Kevin Xu (talk) 22:54, 6 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Disambiguation link notification for April 9[edit]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Histone acetylation and deacetylation, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page CBP (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Editing the article[edit]

Hey Kevin,

I was going through the whole article adding in wikilinks and fixing up general grammar stuff when I came across the Histone Code Hypothesis section. I made a couple of changes since a few of the sentences were run ons, but i'm having trouble with one part of the paragraph. The sentence reads "These specific modification produce the pattern of single or all of the modifications can be interpreted and have functional implications." The way it was before was a run on sentence, so i split up the two sentences, but i'm not sure how you'd like me to correct the sentence so i figured i'd let you do it. Also, did you have some references lined up for your paragraphs? Also, i noticed you'd cite the first sentence of a paragraph but not the rest. If a whole paragraph is from one source, its best to put the reference on the last sentence (what Neelix was talking about in his 7th point). Its also helpful if, for one whole paragraph, you have another source to balance out the first. But other than that, everything is coming along well! Hopefully we'll get an update soon on what grade our article is! Let me know if you need my help with anything!BigA726 (talk) 00:33, 16 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Adam, thanks for looking into the article and letting me know. I will make some changes on that sentence. Let me take a look at the reference list, I will be adding more references for sure.Luyao Kevin Xu (talk) 01:39, 16 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Picture Placement[edit]

Hey Kevin!

So I was taking a look at the article and I really like the one picture you posted of the process between acetylation and deacetylation. I was thinking we could keep the top multicolored picture in the leading section, but what would you think about moving the second picture down into the Mechanism of action section? I thought it would make a nice accompaniment to the text. What do you think? BigA726 (talk) 22:43, 20 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Sure, I think our main topic is the acetylation and deacteylation so it actually fits to put that up front. We could have the overall nucleosome structure in the introduction section, so we have some colours in the article.Luyao Kevin Xu (talk) 13:59, 21 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
And I just saw our article got rated B! Hopefully we get to finish this article with a good rating :) Good job Adam!Luyao Kevin Xu (talk) 19:13, 21 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hey Kevin, i looked at the ambiguous link for AP-1. I checked out source 19 and i'm pretty sure the link is referring to "AP-1 transcription factor" I was going to make the change, but i figured i'd let you make the final decision. There is another page that is called Adaptin which has an AP1 in it, but i think you want the other one. Also, don't forget we have a progress report due today! I almost forgot till i checked the assignment list. Hope everything is going well! BigA726 (talk) 14:55, 22 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
OK I got it. I will make some more updates and fix this problem.Luyao Kevin Xu (talk) 16:06, 22 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Final Review[edit]

Hey Kevin, one of the reviewers of the article mentioned adding a caption to the reaction picture in the article. I figured that would be super easy for you since you added it in. I still think it would be a good idea to move that picture down to the mechanism section. If you could do that when you add the caption, that would be awesome. Definitely take a look at the reviews though, they have some important information!!!BigA726 (talk) 19:56, 29 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Adam, I will go over the reviewers' comments and make changes accordingly. I think adding caption is a good idea, I will work on it. Moving the image is fine with me. Any place in particular? Luyao Kevin Xu (talk) 20:24, 29 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Hey Kevin! Great job on the caption for the picture. I went ahead and moved the picture from the top of the article to the mechanism of action section. I think it makes a bit more sense here and makes it easier for the readers of the article to visualize what we're talking about in the article. I also added our article to the navbox at the bottom of the article like Neelix suggested in his review. I also read through the article and fixed any errors as well as added a bunch of wikilinks. Are there any more changes that you think we should make before Tuesday? We also have a progress report due for this unit! BigA726 (talk) 15:27, 3 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Adam. Not a problem with the caption. I see the diagram is well positioned now. Good job! I will go over the article and add some wikilinks and references as well. I think I will post something by Tuesday so if you want to add something you can do that.Luyao Kevin Xu (talk) 00:03, 5 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Review[edit]

Hey Kevin!

I wanted to ask you about something in the article. We had a recent reviewer tell us that we aren't supposed to source information in the lead section of the article. Since the lead is a summary of the article, all sourcing should be done below the table of contents. I removed all but two sources and relocated them in the article so we didn't completely lose them (they only cited one fact in the lead and weren't used again). The last source in the lead i wouldn't mind keeping. She says that if information (like a small fact) is only in the lead, its OK to source it there. We don't go into methylation and there's no need to, so i figured that one is ok. But the sentence about the epigenetic tag seems to be a somewhat important point when it comes to distribution of the acetyl modifications when DNA replicates and during mitosis and meiosis. I think a paragraph on this subject would fit perfectly as a final paragraph in the Transcription regulation section. What are your thoughts? The only source we would need would be the one already included in the article and maybe one more if you read one that includes information on epigenetic tags. BigA726 (talk) 12:57, 5 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Adam. I looked at the lead section, it looks very well organized and I think we are good with the citations for that section. For the histone tag part, this is what I am trying to say in the histone code section. I can take a look at it and see if I can incorporate this into the histone code section.Luyao Kevin Xu (talk) 21:55, 6 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Hey! I wrote up a small bit of information about the epigenetic markers and included it at the end of the Mechanism of action section. I used the source "Turner." It was a great soruce, so if you want to include that subject in one of your sections, definitely check out that reference!BigA726 (talk) 00:25, 7 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I added a section from the same paper under histone code. Take a look.Luyao Kevin Xu (talk) 00:56, 7 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Hey Kevin, I think what you added looks great. I did a little proofreading, but a source is needed at the very end of the last sentence so that the last two sentences are cited. If you took them from turner, you can just go to named references and add the one i labeled Turner. (I didn't want to add it in case you wanted to cite a different source).BigA726 (talk) 02:38, 7 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Actually the first sentence is summarized from Turner and the second is just my description of their model. I am not sure if we want to cite it again.Luyao Kevin Xu (talk) 19:01, 7 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
