I took a second look and made some more comments, and would be glad to look again. I am glad you found my review helpful - please consider reviewing another peer review, especially one with any comments so far at Wikipedia:Peer review/backlog. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 16:29, 26 April 2008 (UTC)

I will take another look in the next day or so and make more comments. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 04:35, 3 May 2008 (UTC)
I will be glad to look at it again after a copyedit - I am glad to help improve it and thank you for all of your hard work on the article. Hopefully the situation will improve so there will be no more such attacks. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 16:09, 4 May 2008 (UTC)

India Image Rotation

Hey, You recently showed concern about my edits on the India culture rotation page. You accused me of unilaterally editing and making undiscussed changes to the culture images. Let me point out that as per the culture rotation vote, all of my edits were agreed upon and discussed way before I added them.

Contrastingly, User:Fowler&fowler "reverted" my unilateral edits with his own additions, which had NEVER been discussed. He replaced the image of Shiva (which had 6 people for inclusion in the rotation and 3 against) with the Toda Hut image (which had 1 user for and 9 against) here.He also added an image of [[Brihadeeswarar temple] which had NEVER been discussed or agreed upon for inclusion in the rotation. So maybe, it is not I who is making unilateral edits, but rather he who is sneaking his own images while trying to "revert" my "unilateral" edits.

Hi. I'd like to help, but I'm overwhelmed at the moment. It's a matter of many projects and not enough time. Perhaps someone else at WP:LoCE can help or perhaps a volunteer listed at WP:PRV. Finetooth (talk) 17:58, 12 May 2008 (UTC)

Re:Great pics

Nice to hear you found them appropriate for the article. I still think the article should have one more picture of Taxi. Those poor guys had been the most impacted and should be highlighted in the article. --gppande «talk» 13:13, 16 May 2008 (UTC)

Copyediting from the Pianista

Hi, I'm so sorry I couldn't get back sooner! Right now, I'm getting killed (and have been getting killed in the past few days) by a nasty sinus infection, and so I haven't been up to WP duties lately. I'll hopefully be back in a few days. And have a cake (I haven't sneezed on it or touched it. And I washed my hands, twice.) =) --LaPianista! 20:24, 16 May 2008 (UTC)

Technically it can not be reopened. You can only initiate new peer review. However I think it is better to close any peer review before nominating an article. Ruslik (talk) 14:50, 17 May 2008 (UTC)

IP post

Oh no, I am extremely sorry for the misunderstanding. I replied to the IP separately, it wasn't directed to you. When answering your Jisha's post, I just wanted you to know (as general knowledge) that the Rs 2500 that you initially thought was the peak values on BSE was actually the intra day trading for that company's share. That was the magnitude of one share we are talking about. I was tempted to give away this detail when you answered the first time just to give you an indication that you were way off target, but I resisted it as it would be a clue. Now cheer up. :) I've noticed your contributions on WP and I was fully assured that you could not be that IP post. So, no offence taken and hope this clears the air. Re: adminship?

Well, I cannot go for it now. First, I am not well versed in the administrative processes, at least the processes that one should participate in before RfA (for example, AfD). Second, I shall be active in wikipedia till mid June. After that I fear I won't be able to give considerable time here.

Thanks for asking though :) --Dwaipayan (talk) 16:40, 18 May 2008 (UTC)

Re:made some changes to Nagpur article

Thanks for wikifying Nagpur's page. For Taxi image, I searched through Flickr, and some more image libraries but couldn't find anything which showed MNS people attacking Taxi's. All images are copyrighted. We do have certain images in Flickr which show Mumbai Taxi's, will that do? --gppande «talk» 07:25, 23 May 2008 (UTC)

Ok, Lets see, I will upload a image under tag WP:Fair use and see if any bot or admin gets upset. --gppande «talk» 08:30, 23 May 2008 (UTC)

Check this Image:Raj Thackeray as Hitler.jpg I just now uploaded. I am not sure if anyone will shout at me for this image on Wikipedia but lets wait for day or 2 and see. Maybe on Monday we could add it to the article. --gppande «talk» 09:30, 23 May 2008 (UTC)

Even though nobody has yet asked any question yet, I think the note below the tag can raise questions.

Note: If the image depicts a person or persons on the cover, it is not acceptable to use the image in the article of the person or persons depicted on the cover, unless used to directly illustrate a point about the publication of the image. Use of the image merely to depict a person or persons in the image will be removed. --gppande «talk» 09:52, 26 May 2008 (UTC)

Ha ha, that was nice catch... I didn't knew about Pande-ism. People keep asking me so you are Marathi. BTW, after posting the message to your talkpage I read the note clearly and thought that image fits the unless part. unless used to directly illustrate a point about the publication of the image. I think we have a point, cover page was directed towards the incident (about which the article is written). An article should have the media coverage information in it. MNS people had burnt the magazine after it got published. This is valid point that can support the argument. Here is the news link [1] I think lets add the image to article and see. --gppande «talk» 11:05, 26 May 2008 (UTC)
Ha ha ha. Thanks. I saw you have added the image to article. Good ! So now the focus is on Rajasthan. Lets work on it too. --gppande «talk» 12:01, 26 May 2008 (UTC)

Is nbsp needed between the word and the emdash? I don't know about it. AFAIK, unspaced emdash, or, spaced endash, either one is the choice. Please have a re-look. Regards.--Dwaipayan (talk) 14:12, 23 May 2008 (UTC)

RE:Copyedit

I might get around to it if I have time. If I may make a quick suggestion though: recast the first sentence, so that it's not so repetitive and self-evident. Perhaps something like, "In 2008, attacks on North Indians in the state of Maharashtra, India increased (surged?) after..." BuddingJournalist 17:31, 23 May 2008 (UTC)

Hi KnowledgeHegemonyPart2, thanks for your support at Wikipedia:Featured_article_candidates/Cogan_House_Covered_Bridge. It appears that you inadvertantly added two supports here: diff and only one can count - could you please strike one support (preferably the unsigned one) so that SandyGeorgia has an accurate count of Supports? Thanks, Ruhrfisch ><>°° 13:09, 27 May 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for your very fast response. It is no problem - I had not even realized the problem until SandyGeorgia and GrahamColm figured it out. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 13:30, 27 May 2008 (UTC)
I don't think this delayed the FAC and there are no deadlines here anyway. As I said I really appreciate your support. I do this same thing quite frequently - think I have typed correctly and skip preview, only to find typos after saving. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 13:48, 27 May 2008 (UTC)

2008 attacks on North Indians in Maharashtra

I like the new images and also like having the timeline at the end of the article. I did notice a few typos still. Good luck with the GA nomination! Ruhrfisch ><>°° 20:19, 27 May 2008 (UTC)

  • I fixed the typos I found in the first half of the article - up to Exodus. I am sorry but I don't have time to go through the rest. I added several {{fact}} tags where there was what appeared to be a direct quotation without a cite. The MOS says the reference should come right after the quote, so, although my guess is the ref given a sentence or two later is for the quote as well, it needs to be cited. I also split the Feb 13 paragraph as it was very long. Feel free to revert any changes I made and good luck, Ruhrfisch ><>°° 15:45, 29 May 2008 (UTC)
    • Couldn't stay away - I do not understand this sentence but it needs to be fixed (unclear): Railway officials said that such a large crowd of people had been witnessed after a long time since the Sinhasta Kumbha Mela in 2003–2004. I think it means something like Railway officials said that this was the largest crowd using the railroad since the Sinhasta Kumbha Mela in 2003–2004. but am not sure. Hope this helps, Ruhrfisch ><>°° 18:39, 29 May 2008 (UTC)

New map?

Hey,
One suggestion. Article header shows the entire Maharashtra. Should we have a map which shows only those districts which are affected due to this violence? I have listed these many districts from the article where some or other incident happened. Mumbai, Thane, Nashik, Pune, Jalna, Beed, Aurangabad and Latur. Do you think this is a nice idea? I can make a map for this.
On other note - I was surprised why this line got included in the article?

The apex court made the observation while upholding the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation's move to ban the sale of meat in the town during nine-day "Paryushan festival" observed by the Jain community.

--gppande «talk» 12:05, 30 May 2008 (UTC)

2008 caste violence in Rajasthan

Updated DYK query On 31 May, 2008, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article 2008 caste violence in Rajasthan, which you created or substantially expanded. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page.
--BorgQueen (talk) 19:23, 31 May 2008 (UTC)

The main image concern I would note is the use of both Image:Mumbai violence 20080205.jpg and Image:Mumbai 20080212.jpg. WP:NFCC#3A requires minimal usage (i.e. we can't use two fair use images when one is sufficient to provide the necessary understanding); as both images depict participates and an attack and even have identical purpose statements, I think one needs to go (it doesn't matter which). Note also that both are ca. 0.2 megapixels (low resolution is generally considered 0.1 megapixels) and both are missing the "portion used" field in the rationale template.

The other images appear to be in good shape. The GA review was woefully inadequate in its articulation of concerns, so I'm afraid I don't know why the review would have failed 6A (reviewers rarely engage NFCC). There are some image-related MoS issues (no left-aligned images under level two headers per WP:MOS#Images and misuse of periods in captions per WP:MOS#Captions), but the GA criteria do not require compliance with those MoS sections. Changes to Chola Dynasty

Hi, I noticed the changes you've made to this article which, incidentally, is in FAR, and I must admit that I'm a bit intrigued. From what I have come to understand, endashes must be used between dates (1010–-1200 CE) and page numbers (pp 217–218). I spent a considerable amount of time changing hyphens in these instances to endashes during the course of the FAR and I noticed that you have reverted those back, so I am curious to know what's wrong. WP:MOSDASH states this with respect to the usage of endashes:

  • To convey the sense of to or through, particularly in ranges (pp. 211–19, 64–75%, the 1939–45 war, May–November) and where movement is involved (Dublin–Belfast route).

--Madhu (talk) 08:17, 5 June 2008 (UTC)

It took me quite a while to figure out what you've said.. Let me confirm if I understood it right. You're saying that instead of using the &ndash, I should be using this '—' (longer dash from the 'Insert' box below)? --Madhu (talk) 09:04, 5 June 2008 (UTC)
:) It's alright! The MOS doesn't make it any easy for us, so I don't blame you! ;) --Madhu (talk) 15:01, 5 June 2008 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Mumbai violence 20080205.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:Mumbai violence 20080205.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 05:17, 11 June 2008 (UTC)

Re:2008 attacks on North Indians in Maharashtra

Please, don't feel guilty on my behalf! I can't stress this enough over the Internet... After all, this is a "free" encyclopedia.

I honestly take no offense to your undoing of my edits, so please don't feel down. I'm genuinely touched by your sincere response and remarks; please, don't be afraid to undo some of my mistakes!

I encourage you to voice your opinions, and am very moved to see your sensitivity to my possible distress in response to your edits (WHICH DOES NOT EXIST).

If I am really in the wrong (which happens more often than many people think), please be a pal and let me know. After all, (Wikipedia being entirely free, of course) it would simply be illogical to expect all my edits to be worshipped as holy by every one of the +1,000,000 English editors out there, not to mention a highly egotistical and ugly way to think. It would also, of course, be immoral to be a dick and hog all the edits, take full credit, and be psychologically scarred if insofar as one tiny edit be reverted.

I repeat, I mean no ill will, and trust me...I would not dream of shooting you. :-)

My apologies, not yours.

Hello again!
As for your question... I think that overly-feministic ideals, especially when it comes to words, can get a bit nit-picky. I was just specifying a type of person, much as someone would shorten "female actor" to "actress."
Personally, when I mean or feel strongly about a subject, I speak and act earnestly. But I honestly do not care in the least about mincing words to dance tip-toey around what is or what is not politically correct.
Or was that statement too POV for Wikipedia?
Nah, I've already said it...and thanks for the delicious baked goods (and for correcting my sig)! Please sign now. :-) --LaPianista!Sign! 23:40, 6 July 2008 (UTC)

India States Template

So what exactly is wrong with having the names of the states in the official languages of that state ? I am invariant under co-ordinate transformations (talk) 03:34, 16 July 2008 (UTC)

Thanks and Please Reply to my message

Thanks for paying your kind attention towards some of my edits and giving your kind comments on July 8th 2008. Respected sir/madam, I strongly believe that you do not understand the real pain of human beings/little childrens/innocent mothers and .. and ...so on.... and maybe thats why you could not understand my NPOV edits.

So that you could proudly feel that you like the truth (only) and your own views are not-biased/pro-anti/terrorist-regimes/countries, please read The Tribune about how Indian agencies tortured/killed/eliminated innocent Sikhs. How it boiled them alive, How Sikh women were paraded Naked, raped, How it burnt Sikh bodies with hot irons untill their death

Please read "Amnesty International", Amnesty International, Human Rights watch where it says that "Thousands of mothers await their sons even though some may know that the oppressor has not spared their sons’ lives on this earth. A mother’s heart is such that even if she sees her son’s dead body, she does not accept that her son has left her. And those mothers who have not even seen their children’s dead bodies, they were asking us: at least find out, is our son alive or not?"

HRW has mentioned that even world famous "Amnesty International" was not allowed to visit state of Punjab by Government of India.

Respected Sir/Madam, I could not understand that how you easily consider my edits as Pro-khalistani propaganda while simply ignoring "sea of tears, cries of innocent children/mothers and cold blood murders" ........ Hey God.... Do you really exist somewhere ???? Please note that defending the truth does not make you a biased editor. Also, defending Indian crimes in Khalistan Movement will surely make you a biased person. Why dont you spend some of your precious time to investigate Indian crimes, start documenting them and start showing them to the world so that criminals or even a criminal regime could be exposed. Please remember! simply closing your eyes on Indian crimes will not make you a non-biased person either. Cruelty is cruelty, even if it is in "words" or in "real". We should see/document the world in a similar way as we want to see/document our own loved ones. May God give you feelings and courage to defend the truth.--Singh6 (talk) 05:16, 17 July 2008 (UTC)

Apology

Sorry to have been uncharitable in my edit summary on Kerala School. I'm about to teach a class and, in my hurry, lost my composure. But I am being serious about the mediation. This area has already had an RfC. I am happy to do a mediation with you or Bharatveer or both on the Kerala School as well. Regards, Fowler&fowler«Talk» 12:37, 22 July 2008 (UTC)

Please see my response posted on the talk page. Please read through the discussion and you will find that User:fowler is trying to divert the discussion using half-truths Firstly almeida issue', though irrelevant to this discussion, it is now known that alemeida did resign , after the disclosure and rejoined the univ again at a later date). Please see apologies sent by Almeida (http://ckraju.net/Joseph/Almeida_Joseph.html) ; Secondly that User:fowler accused that No scientists from reputed institutions like TIFR supports raju's case , Please see the list of scientists who had supported Raju's case (http://ckraju.net/atiyah/signatories.pdf).-Bharatveer (talk) 05:18, 23 July 2008 (UTC)

User:KH, I hope you understood the seriousness of the "plagiarism charge. Perhaps this issue should be mentioned in the article under a section "Criticism / or any such suitable 'term" . Since this issue has already been described in detail in the talkpage, an edited version (3-4 sentences can be included in the section.-Bharatveer (talk) 06:57, 23 July 2008 (UTC)

Can you add some information about international response? The response section only documents domestic reaction. Otolemur crassicaudatus (talk) 05:49, 26 July 2008 (UTC)

Thank You

Your barnstar for my contributions has come as a pleasant surprise, especially since I've been lying a bit low on adding info at Wikipedia. Your award should now reinvogorate me and hopefully squeeze some time to chip in for the eternally open Puzzle globe of Wikipedia. Thanks. Idleguy (talk) 07:30, 27 July 2008 (UTC)

Thank You.

Thanks for awarding me the barnstar. I was out to Nagpur so could not respond earlier. Well, let me congratulate you too for successfully getting the 2008 attacks on North Indians in Maharashtra to Good article status on July 31. Now it seems more formidable for FAC. --gppande «talk» 06:17, 19 August 2008 (UTC)

FA

So, what do you want to know about FA writing? =Nichalp «Talk»= 18:00, 28 August 2008 (UTC)

I tried to write this: User:Nichalp/FA. Let me know if you have additional queries. =Nichalp «Talk»= 07:25, 29 August 2008 (UTC)
I had collected tips from many users at User:Ganeshk/Tips to write featured articles. Hope it helps. Regards, Ganeshk (talk) 15:11, 30 August 2008 (UTC)

Thanks

I found it interesting and very few historians have researched on this topic. Modern day pro-tobacco advocates sometimes use Reductio ad Hitlerum to equate anti-tobacco activists with the Nazis, which is logical fallacy. Thanks for the encouragement - cheers and best wishes. Sectarian violence on the Orissa Article

The section should stay. Please see Gujarat article. It too carries info about violence against minorities. An Ostrich like approach doesn't change the truth. In my opinion it shouldn't even be called Sectarian violence. It should be called Religious Violence/Pogrom. Thoughts? ChiragPatnaik (talk) 07:54, 31 August 2008 (UTC)

Thankyou

Thankyou for your kind words. Anyway, I think your 2008 article is ready for a FAC. It will also have a good backing since it is a vital part of WP:MUM. We all will be there to resolve issues. Anyway, are you interested in elevating History of Mumbai to FA status. Nichalp is already there. Kensplanet (talk) 08:51, 4 September 2008 (UTC)

Motto of the day

Hello, I notice you're using one of the {{motd}} templates, run by Wikipedia:Motto of the day. You may have noticed that some of the mottos recently have been followed by a date from 2006, or on occasion simply "Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia". The reason for this is that Motto of the day is in some very serious need of help. Participation in the project, which has never been especially high, has dropped considerably over this past summer, to the point we have had several days where no motto was scheduled to appear at all. Over the past several weeks, I've been the only editor scheduling mottos at all, but there aren't enough comments on some of these mottos to justify their use. If we do not get some help - and soon - your daily mottos will stop. In order for us to continue updating these templates for you, we need your help.

When you get a chance between your normal editing, could you stop by our nominations page and leave a few comments on some of the mottos there, especially those that do not have any comments yet? This works very simply; you read a motto, decide whether or not you like it, and post your opinion just below the motto. That's it - no experience required, just an idea of what you personally like and what you feel reflects Wikipedia and its community. If you do have past experience with the project, then please close some of the older nominations once they've got a decent consensus going. There are directions on the nominations page on how to do this.

If you have any questions, please let me know, or post on the project's talk page. I'm looking forward to reading your comments on the suggested mottos, and any additional suggestions you'd like to make. Until then, happy editing! Hersfold (t/a/c) 02:43, 4 September 2008 (UTC)

You put a template on this image on Persecution_of_Christians#Persecution_of_Christians_in_India. It's a Commons image and there's no speedy deletion notice on it, so I've removed the template. Was it placed in error? Ty 12:17, 5 September 2008 (UTC)

Notice

HELLO KnowledgeHegemonyPart2/Archive1 Please save Pakistan occupied Kashmir article from deletion. The article has been hijacked by Wikipedians of Pakistani origin who are demanding its deletion. Remember, once deleted its gonna be extremely hard to recreate it. This is not a wasted attempt because all claims in the article are well sourced. Please consider the following:

1. Pakistan-occupied-Kashmir is the term used by the Indian government, and for legal reasons followed by the media and Indian publishers

2. The term is POV on Wikipedia, but it is real, because it exists, and cannot be *deleted* away.

3. Redirecting PoK to Azad Kashmir is not the solution. Geographically, Azad Kashmir is a small region of the area labelled as PoK. Therefore, territorially speaking, it is inherently false.

4. Additionally, the term Azad, which means free, is also a POV. Free in what sense? From Indian administration?

5. As a responsible encyclopedia, it is our responsibility to mention what the term means, the area under it, who has dubbed the name, usage of the name, the reasons why it is called, and legal usage in India, Pakistan, and major countries/groups. The page should not be more than two-three paragraphs long, and must point to the articles on Jammu and Kashmir, Kashmir, the Kashmir dispute, Azad Kashmir, and FANA.

Wikipedians of Pakistani origin want this removed and replaced with just the Azad Kashmir and Northern Areas article because it speaks the truth. Anybody with an account can vote. If none please create one right away and vote for keep.

Please oppose the page to be deleted. It is requested by Pro Pakistani Wikipedians who want all trace of it to be vanished. Do so immediately!. Key in keep followed by reason.|

Thanks!!

Thanks very much for a wonderful award, the most unique I've seen on Wikipedia!! I will cherish it for a long time. Regards, Fowler&fowler«Talk» 17:28, 10 September 2008 (UTC) PS. As for your question about Bihar, the usual dividing line between North and South is the Vindhya mountain chain which ends in the Chotanagpur Plateau in Jharkhand. Certainly the parts of Bihar that abut Nepal are in North India. I don't know if it would be in East India either, but it is probably the state that divides East India from North and Central India. These categories, though, are not that well defined ... Fowler&fowler«Talk»

title change

Hi, I changed the title to (Economic distress of Biharis in India) what I believe is appropriately reflecting the content of the article. I am aware that changing the title hasnt solved all the problems and I still believe the article needs a lot of rewriting and will be doing my contributions whenever I find some time. Hope it is ok. Thanks. DockuHi 04:25, 11 September 2008 (UTC)

Anti-Bihari migrant sentiment in India

I have no problem in having the title this way. But I am just concerned words like "racism" and "anti-bihari migrant sentiment" note a stronger and widespread social phenomenon and using these words to title an article unless such a phenomenon is discussed elsewhere in reliable secondary sources may violate WP:NOR. Re: Copy-paste

Goddammit, I've gotten rid of that three times now. Thanks, for some reason I'd removed it from my watchlist. I've slapped warnings up all over the article against doing this AGAIN, however if you notice that it gets re-added and I don't seem to be around (i.e., the re-adder doesn't get blocked in five minutes or less), please post a notice on WP:AN about it. I noticed I'm not the only administrator who has noticed this, and a quick look at the page history will be enough to convince anyone else. Thanks, KHP2.
