Managing a conflict of interest[edit]

Information icon Hello, Kevinkicha16. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a COI may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. In particular, please:

  • avoid editing or creating articles related to you and your circle, your organization, its competitors, projects or products;
  • instead propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (see the {{request edit}} template);
  • when discussing affected articles, disclose your COI (see WP:DISCLOSE);
  • avoid linking to the Wikipedia article or website of your organization in other articles (see WP:SPAM);
  • exercise great caution so that you do not violate Wikipedia's content policies.

In addition, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation (see WP:PAID).

Please familiarize yourself with relevant policies and guidelines, especially those pertaining to neutral point of view, sourcing and autobiographies. Thank you. — Jeraphine Gryphon (talk) 08:34, 10 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Jeraphine, I am sorry I am very new to Wikipedia and learning now. Instead of discussing in Talk page I removed your tag without proper understanding. I thought I have made the post as neutral and factual as possible. I just want this company to have presence in Wikipedia. It is not my intention to promote the company. Please advise me if I need to do anything else so that I can be a better contributor in Wikipedia. Kevinkicha16 (talk) 13:18, 10 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, first of all: generally you should only use one account for editing, especially if you're editing the same article. I saw two "Kevins" editing the Vembu article, I'm assuming they're both you. Please pick one account and stick to it. Otherwise it looks like you're sockpuppeting and that's not allowed here.
No one else here is gonna see the difference between you 'promoting' Vembu and you 'wanting this company to have presence in Wikipedia'. It's the same thing.
According to the Terms of Use that you agreed to, you need to disclose who is paying you for the edits that you make here; i.e. if you're employed by a certain company and edit articles in connection to that then you need to disclose your employer. (Scroll down to the "Paid contributions without disclosure" section in the Terms.) Well, and then, as the WP:COI guideline states, you should really just refrain from making any edits where you have a conflict of interest. (Making COI edits is not a block-worthy offense, but people do get blocked for blatant promotion if that's all they're here for.) — Jeraphine Gryphon (talk) 13:37, 10 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for educating me. "kevinseo" is my brother who works for Vembu. I am just helping him as we both learn. We both will take this feedback very seriously and read more about the terms, COI, disclosure and follow the recommendations to the letter and spirit. Thank you. Okay, thanks for clearing that up. — Jeraphine Gryphon (talk) 14:44, 10 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I have disclosed in my user page that my brother works for Vembu Technologies. Kevinkicha16 (talk) 15:32, 10 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
