Userboxes[edit]

What you want is a user-box. Wikipedia:Userboxes explains all about userboxes. I am not exactly sure about current policy, but I think at present the creation of new userboxes is not encouraged. I will think about creating a box for Amdavadis. After all we can always Ignore all rules! (just joking.. don't break rules anywhere :)) There are other users from Ahmedabad too. Srikeit and Sir Nicholas de Mimsy-Porpington live in Ahmedabad and both of them are admins. You can contact them for help in deletion, blocks and that sort of stuff. Also, check out the Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Kolkata, Mumbai for model articles. Try and model the Nadiad article like those articles. - Aksi_great (talk - review me) 14:00, 11 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

artillery-stub[edit]

I agree that a separate type makes conceptual sense, but the stub creation size guidelines strongly suggest waiting until there's sixty articles before splitting out a new type. If not, then I'd suggest a separate template, feeding into the same category. By my reference to "history", I meant that previously, several firearms sub-types were created, only to be deleted several months later with only a handful of stubs in each. Alai 14:47, 11 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • A list is good. You may also find that stubsense is good in locating existing stubs in one-or-another categories... (Only works if said stubs have both stub tags, and appropriate permanent categories, though.) Alai 14:54, 11 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Absolutely, go right on ahead. Alai 16:14, 18 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

This category appear to remain rather small; are you still actively re-sorting to, or populating this category? Alai 05:00, 28 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Personally I don't think I would, unless their use was essentially exclusively in the context of making artillery shells. Hope that helps. Alai 15:31, 29 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Colleges in Ahmedabad[edit]

Take a look at List of educational institutions of Gujarat. You should prepare a list at Education in Ahmedabad on the basis of it. Don't forget to find the appropriate wiki-article and link it. Colleges whose articles exist in wikipedia can be found at Category:Education_in_Ahmedabad. Also add a link to the website of the college if it exists in parenthesis. And a few tips - Don't forget to sign your comments on talk pages with ~~~~. And don't forget to add edit-summaries (check Help:Edit summary) whenever you edit an article. - Aksi_great (talk - review me) 17:37, 14 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Nadiad[edit]

You have done good work on the article. There is lots of information, but it could be arranged into better sections. Take a look at Wikipedia:WikiProject Indian cities. There are excellent guidelines given for a city article. Try and divide the article into sections. History of Establishment could be divided into origin of name and history sections. Similarly edcuation, geography, climate, culture sections would make the article look better. Things like Garba, Gaekwad of Baroda could be wikilinked. Hope this helps in improving the article. - Aksi_great (talk - review me) 07:27, 26 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • Welcome. It has been weeks and months since the idea of newsletter was mooted among the WikiProject India Community. This would be our first full-fledged edition of our Newsletter, and we'd like to start by saying we are very happy to have you among us.
  • This is your newsletter, and we want you to be part of it as well. Provide us with news tips here. It can be anything related to the project, from discussions to calls for help, and other interesting stuff within our community. If you have received or given any barnstars recently, do let us know.
  • Advertisements for recruitments within your WikiProject sub-groups are also welcome. We'll run special sections, and recurring columns in the coming issues.

  • Cartography Department (Shortcut:WP:INMAP): The Department of Cartography within the WikiProject India is a group of wikipedians who work on providing quality maps related to India. Their contributions gain more significance as we try to provide more information on places, districts and states of India. As a thumb rule, maps serve better if they are in SVG format. The location maps by the cartography department has helped us include location information based on latitudes and longitudes for a give place within India. The Indian Roadways map is a featured image, one amongst the few best road maps in the world. Still, there is more work to be done. There are 604 districts in India (see List of districts of India), and each district page needs a map of that district. You can help too. Contact the Cartography Department to learn how you can help in making the best maps in Wikipedia to be India-related!

WikiProject India Newsletter: Volume I, Issue 3 - December 2006[edit]

Project News
  • Name change of cities in Karnataka: A straw poll was conducted on the proposal to change the name of cities in Karnataka, per the Nov 1, 2006 decision by the Karnataka government to rename them from the current anglicised forms. The result of the poll was to change the names. As controversial as the decision may be in the real world, the article Bangalore in Wikipedia still reflects the old name. You may be interested in knowing why. Dig the archives.
  • New Project Noticeboard (Shortcut:WP:INB): WikiProject India now sports a new colourful centralised noticeboard. An effort to make the noticeboard current and dynamic was mooted a few days back, and Ganeshk came up with the new format. The new noticeboard will strive to be the one-stop shop for all project related information. The shortcut is WP:INB.
  • Members List: The old members list is being phased out to give way for the new members list. New members are requested to add their names to the new members list. As the newsletter grows, further issues of the Project Newsletter will be delivered to those enlisted in the new list. So dash down now, to check if ur name is in there.

  • Welcome to the December 2006 edition of our newsletter. Time flies past like matter into the black hole. It is interesting to notice that we are already into the last month for the year of 2006. 2006 saw discussions and development beyond realisation. In the world of Wikipedia where quality counts than quantity, we have come a long way. We've made better than 'nothing', to say the least, and even that is an achievement. I take this opportunity to thank everyone including those who have dotted the i's and crossed the t's.

  • How to?: The "how to" part of assessment is very simple. Just head on to the talk page of any India related page and you'll find the {{WP India}} template. Simply classify the article based on the content and the criteria mentioned here. You can find the detailed instructions here. If you think it may qualify for GA/FA status, first consider submitting the article for peer review.

WikiProject India Newsletter: Volume II, Issue 1 - January 2007[edit]

Project News
  • Project tagging:After a brief edit war over the addition of {{WP India}} to ancient archaeological sites now located in Pakistan, a "pre" parameter was introduced to remove the ROI flag from the template for pre-1947 articles, following discussion. After another large discussion on ANI alleging that the automated tagging by Ganeshbot and LostBot was "nationalistic", Ganeshbot was briefly blocked. Currently, the bots are again in action.
  • Swastika on Hinduism templates:Recently, an extremely large and at times emotional debate broke out regarding the use of the swastika on Hinduism templates, given its association with Nazism. As a result, {{Hindu Links}} now contains an educational message about the use of the swastika, as discussion on a more permanent resolution continues.

WikiProject India Newsletter: Volume II, Issue 2 - March 2007[edit]

Project News
  • Jimbo's visit to India and the WikiCamp in Chennai: Jimbo recently visited India in late February and early March on wiki work. This included a trip to a WikiCamp in Chennai. The one day conference attracted 300 participants from across India and beyond dealt with issues facing wikis ([1]). It was widely covered by the press, eg The Hindu( [2]), which cited the efforts of Bhadani (edit count), Sundar (leadership on Tamil Wikipedia) and Ganeshk (Creation of Ganeshbot to create articles on Indian towns from census figures). Ganeshk himself travelled from California to attend the conference.
  • Wikipedia Weekly 15: Wikipedia Weekly, a informal Wikipedians' program that purports to give "A weekly audio roundup of Wikipedia happenings with news, interviews and roundtable discussions" recently interviewed two prominent editors Rama's Arrow and Ragib(listen). The entire 34 minute interview was entirely about the world of Indian subcontinent wiki-happenings, and was the first episode which was not entirely dominated by discussion of wiki-politics and wiki-bureaucracy, with the host Witty lama praising the efficiency of the project and its proliferation of featured content. Rama's Arrow cited the team spirit, friendship and respect among project members in discussing its success and FA productivity, as well as discussing subcontinental wiki-conflict. Ragib talked also of his public campaign to raise awareness of the Bengali Wikipedia in his native Bangladesh, which has seen a 30-fold increase in article count over the past year.

Hi[edit]

Hi. Thanks for your message. Yeah. I have seen that report... extremely interesting and informative. I'll try and add the info when I get time. Had exams till now. So should be able to do it soon. About the Kaveri Marine, It would be a good idea to post it in the Kaveri page. I have done some editing on the Kaveri page, and I'll add this info as soon as i can. Hope to see you back on editing and improving the LCA page. Cheers. Sniperz11 09:43, 17 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

AIV[edit]

Thank you for making a report at Wikipedia:Administrator intervention against vandalism. Reporting and removing vandalism is vital to the functioning of Wikipedia and all users are encouraged to revert, warn, and report vandalism. However, administrators generally only block users if they have received a recent final warning (one that mentions that the user may be blocked) and they have recently vandalized after that warning was given. The reported user has not yet been blocked because it appears this has not occurred yet. If this user continues to vandalize after their final warning, please report them to the AIV noticeboard again. Thank you. Jmlk17 08:25, 14 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Categorization[edit]

Hi, if an article is categorized under Category:Ahmedabad neighbourhoods or another subcategory of Category:Ahmedabad, you need not categorize under Category:Ahmedabad. Articles should not be categorized in both a category and its subcategory, except in some special cases. Please see Wikipedia:Categorization. utcursch | talk 08:28, 14 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The category is just like other categories in Category:Neighbourhoods in India. In India, most people use the term "locality" or "area" instead of "neighbourhood". If you feel the category should be renamed, you can request so at WP:CfD.
As about articles becoming invisible in the main cat, if you want to see all the articles in Ahmedabad category (including articles in its subcategories), you can use Special:CategoryTree tool:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:CategoryTree?target=Ahmedabad&mode=all&dotree=Show+Tree
The idea of categorization is to organize the information well. Categorizing an article in Category:Ahmedabad neighbourhoods in its parent cats (Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India, Asia etc.) will defeat the purpose of categorization. utcursch | talk 09:41, 14 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
By the way, your talk page is 52 KB long. You can archive it. utcursch | talk 09:41, 14 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the concern[edit]

I agree that wikipedia is not for advertising. But I do believe it is for the purpose of creating awareness also. Other wise why do you need external links at all. This is not my site that I am advertising. I am a volunteer registered to that site. I have taken up a task for creating awareness about the importance of such a site. There are many such sites available through out the world, but there are very few in India (and that too targeting specific activities like children, etc.) According to me anything which is misleading on reading is spam. The links which I added clearly stated what they were for. The idea here was to have people from different major cities register to the database (to create an equal distribution) and hence I added them to the pages of each major city. And how did you assume I was a "him"? [user:iamvolunteer] (sorry for multiple edits - but I am really pissed off by your comment) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 210.210.12.141 (talkcontribs)

Hi[edit]

Hi Kaushal. With reference to the Arjun MBT page, I was wondering if you have any info about the Mk. 2 variant. I'm not able to find much info... all that I'm seeing is upgrades to the Mk 1 itself. Sniperz11 15:44, 15 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Yeah... I had the same opinion as you (that Mk2 is just the total of upgrades). There is no info that i could find, so I just wanted to make sure. Guess we'll have to wait for MoD or DRDO to give info. But if there is to be a Mk2, I think it would most likely include a new indigenous, more powerful engine with a better APU. Plus, air-conditioning for crew, and a CITV sight. IA also wants an all-electric traverse, which DRDO is working on. Better armor is also on the way I guess. Cheers. Sniperz11 06:58, 16 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Hi. The MECON Solid state-cooling system is really a stop-gap measure, and was installed because there wasn't enough power to spare. A proper air-conditioned, climate controlled system is always better, and most probably will be installed once the Arjun gets more power. Another cool technology that can be incorporated into the Arjun would be overpressure in the crew cabin, which creates higher air pressure than the surroundings. This helps in NBC protection, as well as preventing fumes from outside entering the tank.
As for the other stuff, a CITV (Commanders Independent Thermal Viewer) allows the tank commander to independently mark targets and hand over to the Gunner to target and fire upon. It helps improve effectiveness of the tank, as well as giving better all-round awareness. The All-electric Traverse (already used on the Challenger 2) is basically using only electric power to turn the turret and raise the gun, instead of the unreliable, power-hungry and expensive hydraulics that is being used now. A longer, more powerful gun, NERA and NxRA armor and a remotely controlled Air Defence gun are also on the cards. I think all these will add up to make the Mk 2. Just speculation though.
As for the Brahmos, I have read about it. I'll add it into the Brahmos page. This was in the news since the last test. There was the nice report "Brahmastra" by subramaniam (I think) about this test. The problem is that there isn't much information about whether this version is a Land-attack version or just a land launched coastal protection version. The latter seems more likely. More news from Indian missile front is coming up.. I'm hearing that tests will be conducted of the sub-sonic LACM that ADE is developing (based upon the Lakshya). They have already done some propulsion tests till now. SLBM and Brahmos Air and Sub launched are also on the way. AAD test is also due. Sniperz11 09:16, 16 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Actually, no. The arjun doesn't have a CITV yet. It has an independent optical sight for the commander, which is good for viewing, but can't lock targets. For that, the common IGMS is needed. We just have to wait and watch. Anyway, I loved ur userboxes (I took a few of them for myself). You could also try using the collapsible userboxes that I use on my page... works nice for me (see User:Sniperz11/Userboxes for the syntax, if you want to use it). Actually, I'm from bangalore as well. Visited IISc loads of times (did a project there as a matter of fact). Beautiful place to study. Cheers. Sniperz11 10:20, 16 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I took the menu from another guy's page (my wiki adopter's), and played around with the settings. If you want to use it, you can find my menu at User:Sniperz11/menu (my subpage directory is at User:Sniperz11/Subpages, if you want to use any stuff). Another nice place to get menus is User:Andrew Hampe/Templates/Menus, which has a really cool collection of menus to directly use, or to use the individual images as well (best is to create a user sub-page, and put the menu there... makes it easy to transclude onto a page). We should meet sometime (I'm studying abroad now actually). Hope theres another wikipedia meet-up during the vacations. Cheers. Sniperz11 10:42, 16 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free image (Image:Safari Magazine Cover.JPG)[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Safari Magazine Cover.JPG. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. Thanks for the revised article - looks great! I'll add a few WikiProject:Aircraft finishing touches shortly. In the meantime, are you able to add the Sanskrit script for "Hansa" to the article, like we have for other Indian aircraft? --Rlandmann 00:17, 6 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Non-free rationale for File:Safari Magazine Cover.JPG[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Safari Magazine Cover.JPG. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under non-free content criteria, but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia is acceptable. Please go to the file description page, and edit it to include a non-free rationale.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified the non-free rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 20:03, 25 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
