Happy New Year!

Best wishes for the New Year!
Wishing you and yours a joyous, healthful, and productive 2013!

Please accept a belated thank you for the well wishes upon my retirement as FAC delegate this year, and apologies for the false alarm of my first—and hopefully last—retirement; the well wishes extended me were most kind, but I decided to return, re-committed, when another blocked sock was revealed as one of the factors aggravating the FA pages this year.

Maintaining standards in featured content requires vigilance, dedication and knowledge of people like you, who are needed; reviews are always welcome at FAC, FAR and TFA requests. Somehow, somehow we never ever seem to do nothin' completely nice and easy, but here's hoping that 2013 will see a peaceful road ahead and a return to the quality and comaraderie that defines the FA process, with the help of many dedicated Wikipedians!

Removal of content from John Ferolito article

Your recent edits to the article for John Ferolito removed significant portions of sourced content in an effort to "give some balance". I've never been a believer in the concept of addition by subtraction, and this relevant sourced content will be restored. I'd also love to know more about Ferolito and I'd appreciate learning more about him. I tried to find details about his early life, education, family and other background details when the article was first created, to no avail. I invite you to add further content to the article and provide the balance you feel is necessary by adding additional sourced content, rather than through bowdlerizing the article to reach appropriate levels of hagiography. I'll give you a mulligan on these changes and hope that you will have better luck on your next shot at the article. Alansohn (talk) 22:52, 22 April 2013 (UTC)

Alansohn, articles principally devoted to controversies clearly give undue weight to the negative aspects of a private individual’s life and career. See, for example, the discussion at Talk:Barry_Wordsworth . If, as you say, information is so limited on this individual that only one business lawsuit and this golf-course accident are all that can be found, then why does Wikipedia need an article on him? If available sources do not support anything more than what is found here, then the article should be deleted. DYK credits are an insufficient reason to justify articles such as this. And something as trivial as this golfing accident should be no basis for a DYK hook, see User_talk:Newyorkbrad/Archive/2013/May#DYK, or even form a part of the article. Hello from TWAMWIR

Hello Kablammo. I think you are part of a quite small (?) Wiki community in the North East. I think you have expressed interest in my work as Wikimedian in Residence working from Discovery Museum Newcastle. You can chat to me in various ways either through Wiki or the many connections at About.me. I could try and fascilitate a visit to the Archives? Or talk about subjects you may wish to edit. I am working two days a week till end June. TWAMWIR (talk) 15:58, 24 April 2013 (UTC)

Red River Trails

Hi, I liked the article and believe you have written the greatest part of it. The history is really well researched and written, but unfortunately the article does not cover the economic aspects very well. Is there any data on revenues of the good transported over the trails? In the 1820s until 1826 the Columbia Fur Company had the monopoly on the furs from that area. Then CFC got bought by Astor's AFC and thing became murkier ... Do you have any idea where to find data to add to the economic history? rgds --h-stt !? 15:59, 29 April 2013 (UTC)

Thanks for the note and the kind words. The short answer is that I don't know of such information, and it was not an area of inquiry for me when I wrote the article. But you are absolutely right; such data would be a valuable addition to it. I have not read any of Harold Innis' work but that may be a starting point. I will not be able to do any such research in the near future, at least, but if you should decide to do so, please let me know. Best regards, Kablammo (talk) 19:45, 29 April 2013 (UTC)

Re adding support

Howdy! I honestly have no idea how this happened, and I hope you accept my apology. I understand how that may look but I hope you believe that I would never remove your opinion from a noticeboard and replace it with my own. I'm claiming crazy edit conflict but again, no idea how. Sorry again and Cheers!Coffeepusher (talk) 21:44, 18 May 2013 (UTC)

Ok, I just checked the timestamps and this has all the appearances of a PBKAC error and I think that I am obviously to blame. Ill pay better attention in the future. Cheers! Coffeepusher (talk) 21:48, 18 May 2013 (UTC)
I don't know anything about the technology, but I thought it was a glitch. No need to apologize. Best wishes, Kablammo (talk) 22:16, 18 May 2013 (UTC)

James Joyce page - Resources

I am sorry to nag, but you do have one other entry of the same kind I proposed, here: http://www.james-joyce-music.com/ That one is just the 35th part of the research implied in my entry, and yet you did not delete it. Is there any other way of adding the information in my proposed entry to the James Joyce site? This information is affiliated with The University of Bucharest. It is scholarly and unique in the world right now. If you think it is useless, I shall give up at this point. Universitate ub (talk) 06:38, 24 June 2013 (UTC)

Thank you. I have removed it. (Actually I think the case against that link is even clearer, as it is a commercial site.)
This article suffers from the continued accretion of links that are commerical or trivial; at most, external links should be for non-commercial material which expands our understanding of the article's subject. We do not need multiple links to the same material (such as multiple public-domain transcriptions of out-of-copyright works), nor links to material which is still in copyright in the EU or US.
I removed the FW material for the reasons stated in the edit summary: This article is JJ's biography, and specialized textual tools which may help scholars of FW do not really add to a general biography. Otherwise, we could end up with similar links to all of his works. Kablammo (talk) 11:54, 24 June 2013 (UTC)

I respect your decision, but have one major objection: you can call that link anything but commercial. That -- it is not. If you look carefully, it is mere research, pure reserach, no money or advertisements in it... A researcher wanting to share his tools is not commercial. Universitate ub (talk) 19:40, 25 June 2013 (UTC)

I am sorry-- I did not make myself clear. The link you mentioned above (which I have now removed) is the commercial link. I agree that your link is not commercial, but since it is about one of his works, rather than Joyce himself, it does not belong on the article for the author. That's as far as I have gone with it, and there could be other objections to its use elsewhere. WP:EL is a source to determine what external links are appropriate. Corvettes

Eliminating the date would be a good idea. I took that part of the background from one of the Brit-Canadian corvette pages because there was no information in any my resources why corvettes were called corvettes beyond a quick mention. Thanks for the idea. If we agree, I`ll start changing the pages right away Foxxraven (talk) 13:20, 5 September 2013 (UTC)

Union Depot

According to an OTRS ticket from a representative of the municipality, the Union Depot at St Paul is not called the Saint Paul Unioon Depot, but the Union Depot. Therefore MoS says Union Depot (Saint Paul) is the correct name. Guy (Help!) 13:48, 16 December 2013 (UTC)

WP:COMMONNAME says that the most common usage is preferred. While I do not doubt that the facility now prefers to be called "Union Depot" (as indicated by User:Uniondepot here), that is neither the historic nor the most common usage. To expand upon the examples given in the article talk page: John Diers' book "St. Paul Union Depot", published in the last few months, uses the name "St. Paul Union Depot" in the text of the Acknowledgment page, on pages xi, xi, xiii, xviii, xix, xx, xxxvi in the Prologue, pages 1, 2, 4, 6, 8, 9, and 10 in the first chapter, and throughout the rest of the book. There are (or were) other "Union Depots" Minnesota, the name "Union Depot" was part of the names of stations in Saint Paul, Duluth, Mankato, and Owatonna, and for now-demolished stations in Minneapolis, Stillwater, Taopi, and Waseca. Mr. Diers has served on the Metropolitan Transit Commission in the Twin Cities for 25 years, on the board of the Minnesota Transportation Museum, and the editorial board of the Ramsey County Historical Society.
