Kugar[edit]

Dear Jaroslaw. As main developer of Kexi you know that Kexi’s report tool (introduced in Kexi 2.2) is meant to replace Kugar. I don’t understand why you make such a fuss about this topic. It’s not like I wrote about Kugar in Calligra’s article in great detail (doing so would be indeed wrong). It’s just a small link and the link happens to be in Calligra’s components list under Kexi because Kexi is no longer in the component list of KOffice (you moved Kexi out of KOffice in 2010, remember?). Kugar has its own article for details.

As for database management or creator: Kexi markets itself as MS Access for Linux. The Access article says: “Microsoft Access, also known as Microsoft Office Access, is a database management system from Microsoft”. So, when Kexi is Access for Linux and Access is a database management system, why isn’t Kexi a database management system? Here’s a quote from that one’s article: “A database management system (DBMS) is a software package with computer programs that controls the creation, maintenance, and use of a database.” Doesn’t Kexi do just that? --KAMiKAZOW (talk) 01:30, 14 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I agree with you that the Access file format wording is irritating. I'll fix is during this weekend.
To explain the mentioning of Kugar further: In the table every Calligra component that supersedes a KOffice component has an entry what it supersedes (Sheets was KSpread and so on). Thinking even further, my mistake was not to mention Kugar but instead not to list Words as replacement for KWord.
As for what Kexi is: I have to confess that my knowledge about databases is too limited. I copied the table from OpemOffice’s or LibreOffice’s article (incl. the DBMS part from OO/LO Base). From a Wikipedia point of view however, it'll be handy to link to an overview article. Would “Visual DBMS and RAD tool” (or something along these lines) with links to appropriate articles OK? --KAMiKAZOW (talk) 02:31, 15 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

ArbCom Elections 2016: Voting now open![edit]

Hello, Jstaniek. Voting in the 2016 Arbitration Committee elections is open from Monday, 00:00, 21 November through Sunday, 23:59, 4 December to all unblocked users who have registered an account before Wednesday, 00:00, 28 October 2016 and have made at least 150 mainspace edits before Sunday, 00:00, 1 November 2016.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.
