Please stop editing name pronunciations of international NBA players.[edit]
I appreciate your effort because I always appreciate anyone earnestly trying to contribute to WikiProject NBA. But you're clearly not a polyglot, just a strictly anglophonic person, and you keep getting it wrong. Please let those of us who are speakers of those languages handle it. The pronunciations of international player names listed on NBA.com are not accurate. Succubus MacAstaroth (talk) 13:18, 30 December 2023 (UTC)
- Thank you for bringing this to my attention. I will no longer rely on the NBA pronunciations.
- I'm sorry if I came off as that type of person. I am a polyglot myself, and this wasn't my intention. I thought that the NBA website was reliable in saying how the players themselves pronounce their names, even if people of their background would typically pronounce their names differently. I mentioned this on other talk pages before editing the articles because I was looking for the exact input that you gave me. (Looking back, I should have done this for the Wemby article as well.) - By the way, if I came off as aggro I apologize. Anyway, NBA.com posts heavily anglicized foreign player name pronunciations, which do not accurately reflect how the players pronounce their names. NBA.com provides them that way for the benefit of fans who only speak English, as a very rough approximation that will be easy and familiar for them to pronounce.
