License tagging for Image:TANGS LOGO small.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:TANGS LOGO small.jpg. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

Exhaled Breath Temperature (EBT)[edit]

This is my test page for an article I wish to create that covers Exhaled Breath Temperature. Your comments and edits on this test article are welcome - plus anyone who wants to help me get this subject off the ground but has more experience especially with regard to the editing interface.

This work is not my research but does have published references.

Exhaled Breath (Air) Temperature

Respiration (breathing) ensures the gas exchange between the living organism and the ambient environment. During inhalation air fills up the lung and its temperature tends to reach equilibrium with the internal milieu of the respiratory system, determined by the blood flow in the rich network of pulmonary blood vessels lining the alveoli and the walls of the intrathoracic airways. It is conceivable, that processes affecting the temperature of the airways and in the lungs will reflect upon the temperature of the exhaled breath (TEB).

Only recently (since 2002) TEB has been measured systematically in an attempt to determine whether inflammation of the airways can be accounted for by this approach. Preliminary experiments suggest that TEB is a different physiological characteristic than the body temperature measured in the ear (otic temperature) and in the armpit (axillary temperature). Studies done in subjects with asthma, which is considered to be an inflammatory disease of the airways, have indicated that TEB decreases in the course of anti-inflammatory treatment. It has also been demonstrated that TEB can discriminate between asthmatics and non-asthmatics. However, the team of Paredi and coworkers believe that it is the rate of increase of the temperature during exhalation, which matters [1,2], while Piacentini and coworkers have provided evidence that the important measure is the plateau of the highest temperature reached during exhalation [3,4,5]. Both teams analyzed single breath maneuvers on the screen of computers using fast reacting thermocouples in front of the mouths of the tested subjects. This required sealed laboratory environment and subject training to allow the record of comparable exhaled temperature curves. An alternative method has been proposed by the team of Popov and coworkers, who used to the purpose a simple portable device, in which subjects exhale repeatedly until an internal thermal sink (metal core) with high heat capacity placed in an isolated chamber reaches a thermal balance (temperature plateau) [6]. This alternative approach has the advantage of making TEB assessment less dependant on ambient factors and may allow individual home measurements in patients with diseases requiring daily / frequent control.

The method of TEB measurement would require extensive studies to fill in gaps in the knowledge of human physiology and to prove its utility in the diagnosis and monitoring of lung and other diseases such as asthma.

Hi Jgeach, this is a great first effort. A couple of things I'd say right off the bat:

I find this page useful for creating links to references: [1] (all you have to do is paste in a Pubmed ID, and it'll format the reference)
You should read the guidance about writing your first article - you may have already seen it, but it has some suggestions that might be relevant here
For testing purposes, you can create this in the space associated with your user id as a standalone page by a page named like this: User:Jgeach/Temperature of Exhaled Breath (you might want to name it differently, this is just an example)
Your writing style is more scientific than encyclopedic. Wikipedia articles should emphasize information of general interest. Names of investigators should be omitted, for example.
From looking at this, my guess is that this should be a paragraph on the body temperature page, or somewhere else, rather than its own page. The great thing about wikipedia is that it evolves.
Keep in mind that nothing on WP is your own. Once it is up here (even in "your" space), it belongs to the WP community not to you. The WP is guided by consensus not individual opinion.

Regarding the networking aspect (finding interested wikipedians), I would consider going to the talk pages of editors who frequent articles of relevance. Speaking of which, you should try to cite other Wikipedia articles - if you can't then your content may be too specialized.
