Forums as sources[edit]

Please see WP:SELFPUBLISH for why we don't use web forums as sources. You may find it worthwhile looking at [1] to help you refine your referencing. Finally, there really is no need to state whether a source is copyright or not. Good luck with that editing, and remember that Wikipedia is an encyclopaedia, and does not therefore rely on primary sources except in specific circumstances - see WP:PRIMARY. License tagging for File:MAntoinette.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:MAntoinette.jpg. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information; to add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia.

Orphaned non-free media (File:OldWeather-logo.png)[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:OldWeather-logo.png. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Use of ALLCAPS[edit]

Janet, Wikipedia doesn't use ALLCAPS, even where the original is spelt out in capitals, with a very few exceptions, which you can see at the link provided. Ship names aren't one of the exceptions, so names should be rendered as "HMS Fantome", not "HMS FANTOME", even in lists of sources. Shem (talk) 22:41, 16 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Shem, I want to add a paragraph to Wiki "Battle of the Falkland Islands", and I don't have clue how to do it. Can you tell me how to format this stuff? The info is currently in our forum and represents 18 months of work colated into one index, and no - I'm not asking to include that forum link in Wiki. For your info, what we have is at http://forum.oldweather.org/index.php?topic=119.msg53641#msg53641 The reference templates for this will help all our editors amend or create ship articles. Thank you.

Janet, I'm not really sure exactly what you are asking for. Are you asking how to format references? If you want to reference a web page, you need to look here. If you want to reference a book, then this is what you need. If you're planning on referencing article with ships' logs, I would ask you read WP:PRIMARY first - logs are primary sources, and we should (for all sorts of good reasons) be using secondary sources.

I suggest you have a read through of the links I've given. Since I imagine they will throw up other questions, please come back to me whenever you like. Shem, OldWeather logs, original as they are, have been cleared by Jimmy Wales as "encyclopedic" sources.

Meeting notes, July 2012 " Kathy Wendolsky (one of the volunteers) has cracked our Wikipedia problem - volunteers editing Wikipedia entries for the ships and justifying their edits by linking to the logs were having their changes reverted on the grounds that they were 'original research'. Kathy gained the support of Jimmy Wales (wikipedia founder) for use of our data, went to a meeting at the US National archives and met Dominic McDevitt-Parks - he is the Wikipedian in residence there - and they have agreed a protocol for the use of oW data on Wikipedia. Kathy's been invited back to the archives to give a presentation on oW as part of their WW1 centennial event."

ArbCom 2018 election voter message[edit]

Hello, Janet Jaguar. Voting in the 2018 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23.59 on Sunday, 3 December. All users who registered an account before Sunday, 28 October 2018, made at least 150 mainspace edits before Thursday, 1 November 2018 and are not currently blocked are eligible to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.
