I have reverted your addition of You-tube videos to a large number of articles since they need to be discussed on the talk page of each article, and examined by other editors, before being added to the articles. And that goes especially for the videos you added to medical articles (Alcoholism, HIV/AIDS, HIV, Cardiopulmonary resuscitation). According to a comment on Talk:Bitcoin the video you added to Bitcoin was "onesided", and we don't want non-neutral material here (see WP:NPOV). Thomas.W ^talk 14:31, 24 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

We need an in-depth discussion[edit]

1st - I'm pinging @Fuzheado: since he seems to be the guy most interested in videos on Wikipedia, and @Doc James:

2nd- I'm a big fan of videos on Wikipedia, of all types

Having the Simpleshow Foundation upload freely licensed videos is a great idea, but I'd like to know some information and try to work out some ground rules. I didn't like the Bitcoin video because there was about 2:50 of positive info about Bitcoin and about 5 seconds of negative info. Quite one-sided IMHO, it could almost be an advertisement for Bitcoin. It took me awhile to find out enough information on Simpleshow to ask the right questions. Please state whether the following are true or false:

Simpleshow is a for-profit corporation
Simpleshow Foundation is a not-for-profit organization with an educational mission
Simpleshow Foundation does not accept payment for making freely licensed video
User:Jack Matelot is an employee of Simpleshow (or is it Simpleshow Foundation?)

If these are all true, then I suggest the following:

Simpleshow should feel free to upload freely licensed videos to Commons
User:Jack Matelot or other employees should not insert them into Wikipedia articles, but can insert them into the article's talkpage and ask unpaid editors to review them and put them into the articles.

I think that's all that's needed, unless some of the questions above have different answers.

The reason for those two accounts acting on behalf of simpleshow foundation are contradictory guidelines on user names in the German and English Wikipedia(s): The German one allows organization names as account names (which even makes sense regarding to copyright questions) just as Commons does, while the English Wikipedia doesn't. As we have learned that step by step from different Wikipedia users, I had already uploaded content to Commons via both accounts. All in all, being new to "Wikiverse", I was a bit confused in the first place.

I accept your criticism about the Bitcoin simpleshow, we'll try to correct that. Thank you for your concrete instructions.

Btw, User:Fuzheado and a few other Wikipedians have taken part at our simpleshow foundation explainer video workshop at Wikimania on Thu 16th 2015, so we know each other already :) but thank you.

I think we've had all the in-depth discussion that's really needed, but I'll add some very minor discussion just to make sure that we understand each other. The situation with your user names might not be very common, but has probably been made worse by the new unified login that's used by all Wikimedia projects now. I'll just suggest using User:Simpleshow foundation for uploading to Commons and User:Jack Matelot for discussing things on en:Wikipedia. You might list your videos on User:Simpleshow foundation page so that it is no longer a redlink. You should probably also put something on your user page here, such as "This editor is an employee of the Simpleshow foundation. If you think I've been editing here in a conflict-of-interest situation, please leave a note on my talkpage and I'll get back to you." This will satisfy any obligations you have under the Terms of Use and let folks know that you're not trying to slip something by them.

I didn't mean to say that putting the videos on article talk pages is the only way to suggest that somebody put a video in the article. For example you could go to the talk page of Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Medicine and list all the new medical videos you have and ask that folks there take a look at them.

One little tip on inserting video use the thumbtime parameter to show an interesting display screen, e.g. [[File:Bitcoin explained in 3 minutes.webm|thumb|thumbtime=15|With the thumbtime parameter set at 15 seconds]]
