March 2022[edit]
Hello, I'm Largoplazo. I wanted to let you know that one or more of your recent contributions have been undone because they appeared to be promotional. Advertising and using Wikipedia as a "soapbox" are against Wikipedia policy and not permitted; Wikipedia articles should be written objectively, using independent sources, and from a neutral perspective. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about Wikipedia. Your edits give the general impression of attempts to add the name of Tanja Stark everywhere possible, in effect promoting her. I can find no evidence that neither she, her conjectures, nor her artistic motifs have achieved the sort of note that would lead to them being of interest in the articles involved. - The thesis and art genres are original work, that have been subject of lectures and publication for many years, subsequently cited by many major leading publishers and authors, sometimes without attribution. - Please don't use the {{help me}} templates when engaged in a content dispute. The helpers who respond to the call for help will not engage in content disputes, as a rule. You've already addressed a specific editor in this matter, so that should suffice. You might want to consider whether your collection of references might be suitable for starting a draft about Tanya Stark. - Yes, the Routlege link was to a storefront site selling the book. We can't link to storefronts. There are ways to cite books using the author, title, publisher, and ISBN and - in almost all cases - page numbers that do not violate the rule about storefronts. — jmcgnh(talk) (contribs) 07:09, 23 March 2022 (UTC)

Hi there. I haven't read this full thing but after seeing you say "my source article" here, that makes me wonder, are you related or have a close connection with this Tanya Stark? If so that makes me worried about having a conflict of interest. Also, your additions to Bowie articles are not formatted correctly. – zmbro (talk) (cont) 13:06, 24 March 2022 (UTC)
Appreciate the feedback, please advise if these don’t stand up to comparable academic rigour of male references. These pages have been identified as largely devoid of female academics, and editors. As the topics are already comprehensively referenced, rather than deleting and substituting well established male author citations, identifying female citations that expand or add novel, peer reviewed content is harder. - As you guys can see, I'm no IT expert and am doing the best I can. I am super happy for help with citations and would really appreciate any offers to help with formatting.
- I will say, the first comment in the thread above seemed pretty dismissive of the independent sources cited e.g. Bloomsbury and Routlege, and made me feel quite nervous to stay engaged. I have no interest in wiki clout so please feel free to redo my changes if you think they are valid and hold up, under your own names if you are concerned about any perceived COI. I am a SME and do know Tanja Stark and many of the women authors and artists in this area, but am pretty sure there are no COI issues that would preclude incorporating substantiated peer-reviewed published articles, that have been cited extensively in subsequent publications.
- As we know, the arts in general historically omit women (name any famous female artists prior to 1800 ) and even now rock journalism and writing is often the domain of men. The Bowie pages in particular on wiki, seem to be compiled largely by male editors with male citations, which could be more balanced. As I said, rather than delete and substitute already excellent and comprehensive content for the sake of ridiculous token gender re-balancing, the very least I can do is contribute to the gaps with interesting and academically validated content that adds to the body of knowledge.
- I am also hoping to address the issue of a plethora of posthumous publications that are incorrectly citing links they seem to have sourced on wikipedia, that are incorrect, and therefore not coming up as citations for the authors of the original academic papers, lowering their impact level, and the even more annoying issue where articles without high profiles are having their ideas re-presented, often due to their 'invisibility' on sites such as this. ( The 'red shoes' citation on the song Let's Dance entry, for example, was added by some other contributor at an unknown point, but was incorrectly attributed to the editor of the book, not the author, which I changed last night, and added to the album page as well.).
- I have a bunch of citations and links of multiple female artists and academic women I am working though as time permits. However, I really dont want to engage in a bunch of online stoushes, so if it makes things easier, please feel free to get in touch and I'm happy to send you a bunch of sources you guys might be able to reference far better than I can ;) IsabelsPicnic (talk) 03:22, 25 March 2022 (UTC)

Better late than never--IsabelsPicnic, you are undoubtedly correct that way too many of the references in way too many articles are by men, and that needs to change. user:jmcgnh, yes, that Routledge link may be to a storefront, but that doesn't take away from the fact that Tanja Stark is the author of a chapter in a book published by Routledge, an eminently reliable publisher, and that citing such material in our articles should be encouraged. On the other hand, IsabelsPicnic, it's pretty clear who you are from edits like this, and the question "who are you" has validity, and so does Largoplazo's note. We cannot go around introducing material sourced to our own publications--it's unseemly, though I'd love to cite my own stuff all over the place. I can't go into all the things brought up here on this talk page though I'd be happy to respond to queries about individual edits or sources and weigh in on the matter. But the long and short of this is that if indeed most of your edits are to insert material sourced to your own work, you are effectively promoting your own work.
