My internet is working at the moment, so I'm going to try and add the details about the American Idiot story now. WesleyDodds (talk) 06:12, 16 July 2008 (UTC)

One of these days I'll get around to nominating piano rock for deletion. If you go back to the original versionn of the page, it was basically created for someone to rave about Ben Folds Five. WesleyDodds (talk) 08:37, 17 July 2008 (UTC)
When you get back I want to get Nevermind finished up and off to GAC. WesleyDodds (talk) 09:19, 24 July 2008 (UTC)
Let's start with stuff on The Smiths, since that's the current collaboration. By the way, you should take a stab at reorganzing Frank Zappa. I think most of our concerns at the FAC can be addressed by doing that. WesleyDodds (talk) 08:45, 9 August 2008 (UTC)
Yeah, I've been wary of checking out the True book due to some reviews I read, but that is pretty useful. WesleyDodds (talk) 22:05, 16 August 2008 (UTC)
You forgot to include the citation for the Melody Maker review in "In Bloom". WesleyDodds (talk) 09:06, 17 August 2008 (UTC)
Was it Single of the Week? I've always wondered that. Quote the most pertinent parts of it on my talk page, and I'll work it in. WesleyDodds (talk) 09:36, 17 August 2008 (UTC)

I'm of the opinion that the music section of OK Computer should probably be completely redone. Unfortunately for me, I don't own the album and have never listened to it (I do have the godless end-of-contract singles collection, though). Yes, I can go on at length about obscure Eighties college rock and third-rate shoegaze bands, but I never got into Radiohead. Anyway . . . WesleyDodds (talk) 10:15, 1 October 2008 (UTC)

Someone's photo editing work is on the Main Page right now! WesleyDodds (talk) 05:37, 2 October 2008 (UTC)
I need someone to fill out the chart positions, which is always a chore for me. WesleyDodds (talk) 09:35, 2 October 2008 (UTC)
Why I love YouTube: pretty good and a response in need of improvement, with the really obvious one showing up near the end (as a result it is awesomely jarring). WesleyDodds (talk) 10:07, 3 October 2008 (UTC)
1. Elastica - "Connection"; 2. Blur - "For Tomorrow"; 3. Suede - "Animal Nitrate"; 4. Supergrass - "Alright" 5. Don't know; 6. Don't know; 7. Oasis - "Acquiesce"; 8. Don't know; 9. Don't know; 10. Radiohead - "Street Spirit (Fade Out)" WesleyDodds (talk) 22:26, 3 October 2008 (UTC)
Do you think you could get Blur (band) GA-worthy by the end of the week? It doesn't seem like there's much work left (mostly at the end of the article) and we need to get as many decent articles ready for the Wikipedia 0.7 release. As there's material about the music threaded throughout the bio, I don't think we need a musical style section for GA status, but it'd definitely be needed for FA status. WesleyDodds (talk) 05:12, 4 October 2008 (UTC)

Mind taking a stab at the lead for Watchmen on the temp page? Also feel free to muck around with the background and Art sections; I'm having a little trouble putting information in the absolute perfect order. I'll see what I can do with Modern Life Is Rubbish. WesleyDodds (talk) 00:12, 13 October 2008 (UTC)

Opinion requested: should I make a Legacy section for Watchmen, or do you think that information is fine where it currently is (in the Publication and Reception section)? WesleyDodds (talk) 10:00, 15 October 2008 (UTC)

Hey, I told everybody that I'd draw up some proposed guidelines for how to address genres in music articles, particulalry in regards to the whole infobox genre field debate. I'll be starting my draft soon. and I know mostly I want to write, but I wanted to ask if you had any ideas/suggestions. WesleyDodds (talk) 08:18, 18 October 2008 (UTC)

It's a recurring theme that's visible when you read it, but the sources don't make a big deal out of it. WesleyDodds (talk) 23:13, 30 October 2008 (UTC)

By the way, Jimmy Page sure loved his folk music, but why they hell are we labelling Zeppelin a folk rock band all over Wikipedia? It's not like the history books on folk music are spending pages detailing how Led Zeppelin picked up the folk rock batton at the end of the 60s. WesleyDodds (talk) 23:20, 30 October 2008 (UTC)
Way ahead of you. The guideline already tackles it. WesleyDodds (talk) 03:03, 1 November 2008 (UTC)
You're probably best off doing a draft for the article in a userspace page than trying to beat some sense into the main article. I can help you with sources (I have some magazine articles and my library has a few books on the band). WesleyDodds (talk) 23:41, 6 November 2008 (UTC)
I know that should be implicit given Wiki policies about sourcing and original research, but there are quite a few people who don't get it. I plan to add something about adding genres that influenced an artist/work but that the artist/work aren't actually classified as. For example, The Clash sure liked to integrate reggae and hip-hop, and the Rolling Stones dabbled in country and disco, but it's incorrect to classify either of those bands in those genres. WesleyDodds (talk) 06:02, 8 November 2008 (UTC)

We need to work in mention of Britpop into the article body, probably in the music section. Also, I have some bits about Albarn coming up with the band's new manifesto with Justine Frischmann. WesleyDodds (talk) 07:10, 11 November 2008 (UTC)

Yeah, the genre wasn't called Britpop until early 1995, according to John Harris' estimates. Later on Albarn would bitch that people didn't care about Britpop when Modern Life Is Rubbish came out, but they care now (notice how he purposefully ignores the success of Suede; one of the best parts of the Harris book is how ridiculous the rivalry between Damon Albarn and Brett Anderson is, to the point where they forgot why they initially hated each other but still kept at it). WesleyDodds (talk) 00:26, 12 November 2008 (UTC)
"I even brought Brett round to say hello to Damon, to try and heal old wounds . . . I was like, "Well, look - why don't you just make friends?" Brett was like, "Okay, I'll bury the hatchet." They both thought they'd give it a go. And it was like one of the weirdest, nastiest scenes ever. It was like a cat and dog meeting each other. Just, 'Ssssssssss!' One of them went to shake the other's hand and he didn't look round . . . I got Brett out of there within two minutes; I realised it just wasn't happening . . . It was so beyond anything to do with me: it got to a point where Brett was driven by hating Damon - and Damon's driven by hating everyone - so they really needed to hate each other. I think they were scared of not hating each other, because that would have marked the point where they didn't care anymore." - Justine Frischmann. WesleyDodds (talk) 11:35, 14 November 2008 (UTC)
Judging by the talk page, the "band member" articles should be merged/redirected to Gorillaz. WesleyDodds (talk) 12:24, 15 November 2008 (UTC)

You have Heavier Than Heaven, right? WesleyDodds (talk) 13:30, 7 December 2008 (UTC)

Damn, I was hoping to get some info from it about "Heart-Shaped Box". My library doesn't have it. I guess it's Google Book Search then, assuming it lets me view the relevant pages. WesleyDodds (talk) 13:34, 7 December 2008 (UTC)
In a related item, if you read the comments on Oasis articles on the NME site, the running joke is that the magazine has someone who constantly follows Noel Gallagher around to take quotes for stories. Which they probably do. WesleyDodds (talk) 23:34, 9 December 2008 (UTC)
So Blur finally got their crap together and are reuniting. That at least should allow us to manage the article easier. WesleyDodds (talk) 03:59, 13 December 2008 (UTC)
I've hit a bit of a dead end with "Heart-Shaped Box"; I'm having trouble finding sources that discuss the composition of the song itself. In related news, I asked JD554 to add chart info to "All Apologies", so if you have anything to add to it, it's at a decent spot right now contentwise. WesleyDodds (talk) 11:36, 13 December 2008 (UTC)
The real best video of all time is this, followed closely by this and of course this. WesleyDodds (talk) 23:07, 13 December 2008 (UTC)
That's a shame that YouTube wants to deprive the rest of the world of R.E.M.. By the way, does the True biography (oh, he's so clever right there) have any info on awards or the like In Utero was nominated for or won? I'm trying to fill out that aspect of the article right now. WesleyDodds (talk) 03:34, 14 December 2008 (UTC)

Can you get this guy to withdraw his discography. Its a mess. Please check this.--Be Black Hole Sun (talk) 18:26, 18 July 2008 (UTC)

Thriller

Hi there! When you return could you give me some suggestions about what to include in that "background" section, I'm still of the impression that nothing majorly important happened between Off the Wall and Thriller though lol. Also do you still want me to rearrange the "highly publicized events" section, I'm certainly open to that, I was going to do it but just couldn't figure out a better place to put it, maybe the individual events need scattering around the article. Cheers Man! — Realist2 (Speak) 13:58, 19 July 2008 (UTC)

Hi. I added another sentence on the group's musical style. (Ibaranoff24 (talk) 12:45, 23 July 2008 (UTC))

Comment?

Hey man, I was wondering if you could do me a solid: could you comment on this ongoing debate? I know you already commented on it somewhat, but the discussion has changed a bit recently. I know it's a little long, but you can just skip ahead to the last 4 or 5 posts to figure out what's going on. I'd appreciate any further input you could give. Hello, you are receiving this message because you voted in the last FAC for this article. Currently, it is undergoing a peer review and I invite you to come view the page and offer any suggestions for improvement here [1]. Over the past three months, the page has been improved with additional scholarly works, trims, two new sections suggested in and attention to concerns raised during the last FAC. Thanks in advance for your time, attention and help to bring this important article to FA. NancyHeise talk 00:10, 28 September 2008 (UTC)

Nationality of Editors

The current back and forth reverting of Editors' nationality isn't helpful IMHO. Please can this be discussed on the talk page before making any further reverts? Thanks. --Jameboy (talk) 19:46, 7 October 2008 (UTC)

Please can I ask (nicely) that you do not make another revert on Editors. With your permission, I'd like to list this dispute at WP:3 so that it can be sorted out properly (if you have any other ideas on how it could be resolved, please let me know). Admittedly it could be tricky in so much as the other user is an IP user but I would like to see this sorted out. Thanks. --Jameboy (talk) 20:46, 9 October 2008 (UTC)

Templates

Yes, template changes have always bothered me because oftentimes I only find out about them after changes have been made. I suggest you bring this up on the Music WikiProject page, as well as possibly broader areas to discuss Wiki procedures. WesleyDodds (talk) 22:05, 11 October 2008 (UTC)

Radiohead lead section

I noticed you removed the notice about the sales figures content dispute from the lead section. That's fine, but the dispute seemed to restart almost immediately after you removed it! How would you feel about putting an abbreviated version of the message back into the lead? - the old one completely stopped the warring, but I agree it was quite long. Papa November (talk) 17:11, 12 October 2008 (UTC)

There was no intention to threaten anyone - merely to draw people's attention to the talk page discussion. At the time I wrote it, the lead section was spiraling into an edit war and a message encouraging people to discuss the matter seemed preferable to issuing 3RR blocks to capable editors. Anyway, I agree with you that the disputed text should be removed from the article - there's no mention of the sales figures elsewhere in the article, and they're not especially relevant. Papa November (talk) 14:22, 13 October 2008 (UTC)

Paranoid Android

I've been working with User:Giggy, User:Papa November, and WesleyDodds on the "Paranoid Android" article. It's been promoted to GA and we're aiming for a FA in the near future. Wesley recommended that I ask you (as well as User:Ceoil and User:NSR77, who I'm sending this same messages to) to take a look at the article before it's nominated at FAC; if you find a minute to do so I'd be extremely grateful. Thanks! --Brandt Luke Zorn (talk) 04:29, 13 October 2008 (UTC)

Why did you remove the personel section in the template? Belsen (talk) 17:34, 13 October 2008 (UTC)

There's no need to list every single touring member/producer/collaborator who workedf with Blur on very few occasion. Templates only provide links that are very relevant to the band. Further the personnel section was above the albums (which is much more important) and made the template ungainly. indopug (talk) 14:51, 14 October 2008 (UTC)
I think people who were actually in the band like Cara Tivey, Diana Gutkind and Simon Tong should be named in the template, just like Elvis Ramone is named in http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Template:Ramones. Maybe the names can be added under the names of the keymembers. People like London Community Gospel Choir, Karl Van Den Bossche and Stephen Street could be dropped, only being temporary hired personel. I only added Street, because he before was named in the template. Belsen (talk) 18:04, 14 October 2008 (UTC)
It's a shame we can't seem to agree over this. I put it up for a third opinion, like I suggested. Belsen (talk) 16:34, 24 October 2008 (UTC)

Supergrass discography

Hi.

On Supergrass discography, do you think the Live from London album should be listed? It was The Diamond Hoo Ha Men who played that live gig. Blur

I'm not going to engage in an edit war with you, but they have not recorded or toured since 2003 - this defines them as an inactive band with no current members. I will not challnge this again unless I can find a way of referencing that specific point. However, there should be a seperate section for reunion comments as filing it all under post 2001 is too clumsy and makes it hard for the casual reader to sift through things. Tom Green (talk) 15:25, 6 November 2008 (UTC)

Coffee and TV

Hey. I was thinking, if you really don't want the bit on coffee and tv in there, even though it's very important and referenced, then maybe there should be a section for awards. 203.51.54.157 (talk) 01:27, 20 November 2008 (UTC)

Hi, thanks for comments regarding the Suede discography page. Much appreciated. Occasionally I consider working on the "Sliver"article, but then I think to myself, "Get the major singles done first. You don't want someone to scroll over the FA list and see 'Sliver' instead of 'Come As You Are' now, do you?" WesleyDodds (talk) 13:02, 16 December 2008 (UTC)

Oh, it's funny when belligerent editors claim after I make edits that I know nothing about older music and should just stick to alt-rock articles. Oh, I love older artists just fine (-cough-got "Hey Jude" through FAR-cough-); it's just dealing with some artist articles can be quite the minefield, as you know from mutual unpleasant experiences we've had. There's a killer article waiting to be written for the likes of The Who or "Stairway to Heaven" or Revolver. WesleyDodds (talk) 13:19, 16 December 2008 (UTC)
Scroll down to the bottom of the Led Zeppelin article. There's a category that made me laugh aloud, partly because it shows how silly Wikipedia can be sometimes, and partly it reminds the public that in spite of Robert Plant's sex god imagery, he was a bit of a nerd. I've never been really into Bowie. Decent songs, but never struck enough of a chord to make me seek out his albums in depth. I listened to Low once and thought, "Eh, it's alright". WesleyDodds (talk) 11:45, 4 January 2009 (UTC)
I wonder how long it'll take someone to change the genre in the "Whole Lotta Love" infobox, and if they will even know that we included a soundclip of the song in Heavy metal music as a prominent early example of the genre. WesleyDodds (talk) 12:19, 4 January 2009 (UTC)

Let's put it this way: when writing the lead, it helps not only to identify a band's importance to a particular genre (Britpop), but to actually refer to a seminal event in that genre by name, instead of unhelpfully titling the link "chart battle". WesleyDodds (talk) 19:41, 16 January 2009 (UTC)

All that said is that Courtney and Steve Albini didn't like each other, and Courtney and Dave Grohl got into a huge fight. WesleyDodds (talk) 21:37, 19 January 2009 (UTC)

"Indie dance" is what they call "Alternative dance" in the UK. I think plain ol' alt-rock is fine, since Leisure was really the sound of a band if not intentionally bandwagon-jumping on all the hot indie trends of the moment (Madchester, shoegaze, even the Pixies), sure didn't do enough to distinguish themselves. WesleyDodds (talk) 23:11, 24 January 2009 (UTC)
British sources do use the term "alternative rock", but not as often since "indie" was established there first. For example, go on YouTube and look up the BBC's Seven Ages of Rock documentary: episode six is "American Alternative Rock", while episode seven is "British Indie Rock". One thing I've noticed is that "indie" does not cover goth bands, or Radiohead (who were never on an independent label). We wouldn't use "indie" in British articles, though; it's a synonym, not something grammatical that needs to be preserved when using British English. The rest of the world primarily uses "alternative rock", so that's what we default to. WesleyDodds (talk) 22:52, 26 January 2009 (UTC)
Re: alt vs. indie: Well, no, that doesn't mean we'd call them that. We're not talking about two completely different things; they're synonyms for each other, and sources indicate this. As alternative rock is the preferred name, that's what we'd go by on Wikipedia for consistency, regardless of the article subject's nationality. If you're writing a news article in the UK about Blur for a British audience, you could call them "indie" all you like (even then, I have issues of Mojo where the writers use "alternative rock"). But as we're all "keep what the rest of the world prefers" in mind, we wouldn't be doing that here (Canadians and Australians use "alternative rock" as much as me and my countrymen do, for starters). Oh, and when I first heard Oasis, I had the same impression everyone else in America had at the time: these guys are trying awfully hard to sound like The Beatles. WesleyDodds (talk) 23:28, 28 January 2009 (UTC)
You should see the grief I got for putting the Led Zep songs category into the heavy metal songs category. The net effect was that it completely killed my interest in working on Led Zeppelin articles ever again, which is a shame, since I checked out a book on Led Zeppelin IV last week. Anyway, I called James "the Blur of the 80's" because they kept changing styles, starting as a Smiths ripoff, then throwing in with Madchester, then attempting their best U2 impression at the turn of the 90s. They've done some decent songs. WesleyDodds (talk) 02:09, 3 February 2009 (UTC)
Oh, and I thought about Loveless, but they're already going with Romeo and Juliet, and you can't top that. WesleyDodds (talk) 02:10, 3 February 2009 (UTC)

How are you these days? WesleyDodds (talk) 06:29, 7 February 2009 (UTC)

I have the 33 1/3 book on the album, but I also have a Mojo oral history article of the band's entire career. Basically, I'm fine with either. WesleyDodds (talk) 06:41, 7 February 2009 (UTC)
Not as great as this. WesleyDodds (talk) 07:02, 7 February 2009 (UTC)
That's actually how I first discovered Iggy Pop, way back in 1997. WesleyDodds (talk) 08:08, 8 February 2009 (UTC)

for now, just start with "The Drowners" and "Fool's Gold". I always find it best to write as much as I can first, then decide which clips are merited by fair use guidelines. I'm pretty sure I'll be working in a description of the sound of "Fool's Gold" the more I work on The Stone Roses. WesleyDodds (talk) 02:57, 13 February 2009 (UTC)

The problem with Rolling Stone is that they have this 60's centered view of rock music and rock music's place in popular culturer, which is instilled in them by founder Jann Wenner (he also runs the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, which explains a lot of what goes on over there). Ever wonder why you see the Eagles on the cover or political cartoons about how lame Bush is more often than you see modern music artists? Jim DeRogatis perfectly illustrates what's wrong with Rolling Stone in his his book Milk It, in the chapter where he explains why he was fired from the magazine after little more than a year in the mid-90s. There is some good writing in there, but as a whole the magazine is off-putting and I've personally never bought an issue.
And yes, PiL is good, but really only the early post-punk stuff. Once they become a full-on alt-rock band (around Album onwards) they still have some good songs, but are more or less disappointing. WesleyDodds (talk) 23:53, 16 February 2009 (UTC)
Mojo is my favorite music magazine, although all the major ones can be very go from time to time. I think the original rational for having separate "Annie" articles was to avoid spoiling "teh revelashuns" for people, although I wouldn't be surprised if there was enough secondary source info to merit the existance of both articles. WesleyDodds (talk) 22:35, 17 February 2009 (UTC)

I've seen your careful reviewing around FAC's music articles for a while now and I was hoping you could help out at Wikipedia:Featured article candidates/Meshuggah. I'm not competent to judge whether or not all four audio clips are necessary, but I thought perhaps you could help out in that department. I would really appreciate it. Hi Indopug, as you requested, I sifted through the prose of the above FLC. Could you revisit the nomination to see if there are any other problems? Thanks, Dabomb87 (talk) 15:13, 11 January 2009 (UTC)

Hi indopug, would you be able to have a look over Reverberation (album) for a copyedit? I'm looking to take it to GAN. I'm not overly happy about the balance between the three prose sections, but I'm not sure how to deal with it best as there's very scant information available on recording and music. Cheers, --JD554 (talk) 15:31, 13 January 2009 (UTC)

Hammer of the Gods

Hammer of the Gods is not a reliable source. It is mostly sensationalist journalism. Shadwick's, Bream's and Fast's books are superior. MegX (talk) 01:18, 17 January 2009 (UTC)

Susan Fast's book which is a university based study and publication, criticised Hammer. A perfect example is when Karac Plant had died and three members of the entourage flew back to Birmingham via London with Robert. In Hammer Cole claims he flew back with Plant. This is refuted by other sources notably Fast, Shadwick and Mick Wall who all state it was Mick Hinton, not Cole. Hammer relies too much on the account of Cole, who regularly inserts himself into the book as some kind of saviour/hero figure in the band's story when it was he himself who was responsible for many of the problems. Also Page never gave any interviews to Davis, so everything Page is alleged to have said is from another source. MegX (talk) 00:35, 18 January 2009 (UTC)
Well I'm not saying it can't be used, I'm just saying that it's not very reliable. MegX (talk) 23:47, 18 January 2009 (UTC)

Take a look in the page above. Cannibaloki 16:20, 25 January 2009 (UTC)

Thank you for copy-editing. I wasn't sure if it needed it, but it's my writing, so I should just assume it does! Lol. The references in the infobox were there because St. Anger is one of the genre warriors favorite pages. So if you think it's best they aren't there, that's cool, but if you think it will still help, would you mind putting them back? Thanks again. Cheers! Burningclean [speak] 18:48, 25 January 2009 (UTC)

Umm, I think it's probably good at heavy metal, cause I'm not sure if you've ever listened to the album, but it's not really thrash metal, as more of a just straight up metal. Burningclean [speak] 00:22, 27 January 2009 (UTC)
Oh, also, I have a question. From what you've read with St. Anger, what would be other requirements to take it to FA? I'm not sure if I'm going to, but I'm just curious because I've never taken an album to FA. Burningclean [speak] 01:08, 27 January 2009 (UTC)

I dont understand about the rolling stone review. It seems favorable. Tha dude called it "one fucking heavyweight of the album" and liked Jimmy Page's guitar; "the absolute number-one heaviest white blues guitarist between 5'4" and 5'8" in the world?? Shit, man, on this album he further demonstrates that he could absolutely fucking shut down any whitebluesman alive, and with one fucking hand tied behind his back too". and he liked the drumming, writing "John [Bonham] demonstrates on this track that had he half a mind he could shut down Baker even without sticks, as most of his intriguing solo is done with bare hands."

"Popscene"

Take a look at Riot Act (album) when you have time. It's almost ready for a GA nom, but could use another set of eyes to give it a look. WesleyDodds (talk) 03:52, 7 March 2009 (UTC)

I think the Blur articles you can get the most out of given what's available and what sources I personally have are either "Girls & Boys" or Blur. As for The Battle of Britpop, I think it'd be a great topic to appear on the main page during April Fools (imagine a TFA summary written as if it were an actual military campaign). My intention was to indicate that the structure of the series (everything from page layout to composition to recurring visual motifs) is Very Important Indeed. I like your phrasing, but "is considered" begs the question "Who considers it so?" WesleyDodds (talk) 07:27, 14 March 2009 (UTC)

Slow Life

Hi Indopug - thanks for tidying up my Slow Life article. I've reinserted the info about the songs appearance in 9 Songs though. The band perform the full song live in the movie and it's actually a central part of the film (it only consists of 9 live performances by bands intercut with the two actors having sex) so I think it needs to be mentioned. Hi Indopug,

I am pleased to see that you have used my monobook script to remove the autoformatting or linking of dates or other functions; I hope you have found it useful.

This is to let you know that ArbCom has announced a temporary injunction against the "mass delinking of dates". You can still delink dates on an occasional basis; however, you may wish to be cautious and use the script only for its non-date functions until the issue is resolved by an RFC poll. You may wish to express your view on autoformatting and date linking in the RFC at: Wikipedia:Date_formatting_and_linking_poll.

FLC nominations and reviews

Hi, Indopug. You may not be aware, but the new Featured list criteria was implemented Sunday 5 April, 00:56 (UTC) following two weeks of discussion at Wikipedia talk:Featured list criteria#New criterion discussion.

I've gone through the nominations and have noticed the following have received reviews from you, but no indication whether or not you support or oppose their promotion to WP:FL:

  1. Wikipedia:Featured list candidates/List of number-one albums of 2008 (U.S.)/archive1 (List of number-one albums of 2008 (U.S.))

Please could you take the time to revisit the articles and candidate pages, check them against the new Featured list criteria, and indicate whether or not you support or oppose their promotion to WP:FL. It would be much appreciated as the nomination will not have to be kept open any longer than necessary.

Finally, please accept my apologies for the brusqueness of this message; the same wording is being sent to everyone who has outstanding reviews, with only the names of lists being changed. Regards, Matthewedwards :  Chat  05:46, 9 April 2009 (UTC)

Hey, recently Thriller won some awards and polls. I added some info on this, then another editor preceded to expand it further. His version of the text dedicates a small paragraph to the awards, whereas my version is about two lines of text. Per WP:UNDUE and WP:RECENTISM, I'm not comfortable with his rather detailed text. I would appreciate your input on this. Thanks. — R2 23:02, 9 April 2009 (UTC)

Eric Cartman

Thanks a million for the ce of the Eric Cartman article. To answer one of your questions, I added the "sic" template next to the sentence stating that NPR describes Cartman as "America's Favorite Little $@#&*%" to let the reader know that the bowdlerizing was intentional, and that the word was not being censored in the article. I don't know if it is crucial that the reader realize this ...but, just letting you know why it was there. Again, thanks for the cleanup. - SoSaysChappy (talk) 17:21, 12 May 2009 (UTC)

If you still think the article should be deleted, please don't add the {{prod}} template back to the article. Instead, feel free to list it at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion. Thanks! A list that has been here since 2006 and has undergone getting on for 600 revisions hardly qualifies as "uncontroversially a deletion candidate". I can't really see why you want to keep the line "Blur's initial success was shortlived" and why you keep removing the category English musical groups. Your edit summary "they suffered a severe backlash after Leisure, and the failure of "Bang" played a big part in that. Category;english musical groups is redundant to the britpop category" makes little sense since Leisure was released in August 1991 and reached number 7 in the UK chart and their next single, "Popscene", released only 6 months later reached the top 40. In fact between 1991 and 1993, each one of the band's six singles (including "Bang") reached #32 or higher, which doesn't appear to support your assertion that their success was shortlived. After that they got even more successful of course with the Parklife album. Also, the Britpop musical groups category includes non-English bands such as Catatonia, Geneva, Manic Street Preachers, and Travis, so the category English musical groups is in no way redundant. Please revert your edits. Thanks.Michig (talk) 16:21, 24 May 2009 (UTC)

Fantasy Black Channel

Hi, I would appreciate if you stopped making unconstructive edits to the article especially when it is under FAC review. The genre point was fair and has been amended but additionally you removed the singles section in the infobox as well the alternative art which you said was "mostly identical". The key word is "mostly", i.e. is not the same, and has to be included for completeness and to exemplify the work of the cover artist, Jon Bergman, who created 2 (TWO) pieces. Thank you. Rafablu88 (talk) 17:40, 2 June 2009 (UTC)

The Beatles discography

Hey Indopug. I was looking through the talk page of The Beatles discography, and noticed you were planning/hoping to revamp the list a bit, bringing it somewhat more inline with MOS:DISCOG. Namely in table-izing the list. I just wanted to see if you still planned on doing this, and if so, if you wanted to try and get things started with a task-force type of thing. The list is in bad shape, but it's such a drastic undertaking I don't think it should be left to just one poor soul. And I think the list has been in the hands of the Beatle-Wikipedians for a while now, so perhaps it's time for us discography-orientated folk to have a crack at it. So if you're still interested in doing something about it, let me know, yeah? Drewcifer (talk) 09:13, 12 August 2009 (UTC)

Recent Black Sabbath edits

Hi, my bad on the decade thing, it was the year, sorry. When I saw the unexplained reference removal I assumed all the changes were bad. I generally agree with avoiding references in the lead, in this case it was added a few months ago to settle a dispute over the year they formed, so it was in there legitimately, let's see if it can stay more stable without it now. I like that you cut out some of the H&H stuff. I almost dropped you a line rather than reverting your edits, in retrospect I wish I did. Happy editing. J04n(talk page) 00:15, 18 August 2009 (UTC)

I know it's not penicillin, but I'm glad you mentioned and explained the overreferencing thing on my FAC. I had been scared to stop referencing every line for a long time and now I have an elegant solution. RB88 (T) 12:40, 6 September 2009 (UTC)

Thanks!

Hey indopug, thanks for your support with Starvin' Marvin (South Park) and for patiently working with me on the FAC process. I definitely think the article is much better off now thanks to your efforts. When you get a chance though, I was wondering if you wouldn't mind striking the objections on the FAC that you feel are now addressed. It would probably make it look a bit less messy for the administrator when they come in to pass or fail it. Thanks again! — Hunter Kahn (c) 14:23, 7 September 2009 (UTC)

Album reviews in The Beatles

(same message to WesleyDodds and Indopug) Hi. If you have a moment to glance at The Beatles I'd value your thoughts on how the album descriptions are looking (and anything else for that matter). To do the albums justice with more than a passing mention, I've quoted reviewers and and biographers to build up at least some picture of what each ablum's like. It's now suggested on the talk page that there may now be too much detail in these quotes on albums. Please comment if possible in the discussion. Thanks, PL290 (talk) 01:37, 29 September 2009 (UTC)

I'd say signing with Parlophone and the release of "Love Me Do". WesleyDodds (talk) 08:13, 22 November 2009 (UTC)
Why do you ask, by the way? WesleyDodds (talk) 11:59, 22 November 2009 (UTC)
Meant to be working full-swing on Nevermind, but I keep putting it off. Last real project was tweaking "Smells Like Teen Spirit" a bit. I might redo Green Day and I might tackle Depeche Mode, but I don't think I have the time or energy to work on a project alone right now. I wouldn't mind collaborating though. It would sure beat all the talk page debates I find myself getting wrapped up in these days. WesleyDodds (talk) 12:38, 22 November 2009 (UTC)
There's got to be a "classic rock" article we could work on that would both interest us and wouldn't bring the usual headaches. WesleyDodds (talk) 12:47, 22 November 2009 (UTC)
Ceoil and I were planning to work on A Night at the Opera together, but then VH1 Classic stopped showing the Classic Albums episode on it for free via my cable provider. Yeah, those DVDs only cost ten dollar at Wal-Mart, but I'm too poor right now. A long time ago I used to dislike U2. These days, I have a U2 iPod. Go figure. Anyway, the only way I tolerate their sloganeering is by acknowledging how ridiculous it is as times, to the point where it becomes amusing and sometimes endearing. Yeah, "One" is overrated. My favorite song off Achtung Baby is "The Fly". Part of it is because of the dated Madchester rip-off beat (seriously, listen to it and The Charlatans' "The Only One I Know" next to each other). By the way, can you lend a hand and help me try to bring Pixies up to code? I can work on referencing (the oral history Fool the World is at my library), but I could always use help with prose. Lennon/McCartney

You deleted a large chunk of the L/M article, dismissing it simply as "irrelevant". Not only did I write this bit, but I added it to clarify the remainder of The Beatles' catalogue that was NOT written by L/M. I also wrote the paragraph preceding it (which you mercifully left unscathed); the second two paragraphs tie into the first, succinctly making a list of all songs not written by L/M in two quick paragraphs (and one sentence on Ringo ;>). Please don't delete and dismiss an editor's hard and honest work as "irrelevant" when it's stood on the page long enough for plenty to read and learn from it, as it is only 100% fact... Using HTML codes for en dash and em dash

Some of your recent edits have changed the HTML codes for en dash and em dash into the Unicode equivalents. There is a discussion of this issue at the MoS talk page here. Initially, I was also using the Unicode equivalents, but the arguments to use the HTML codes presented at the talk page made sense to me. The Unicode en dash looks identical to the hyphen in the edit window, which has a fixed width font. This can cause editors to not realize an en dash should be used in a list (such as band Personnel). Also, some editors vision or font may not easily distinguish between an en dash and a hyphen in the Preview window, causing them to use a hyphen where an en dash is required. You may want to consider leaving the HTML codes as-is, instead of changing them to Unicode. Happy New Year. CuriousEric (talk) 15:35, 31 December 2009 (UTC)

Hi, Indopug... Happy New Year's my friend. I don't usually do things like this, so here goes. I know that you're a true great fan of Queen (of course, as being the main contributor and, most importantly, defender of them; i.e. their articles), as I have nothing but the upmost respect for you in this regard - I too am a big Queen fan - and would very much like to point something out, as I'm sure you already know: Should had Freddie Mercury sang this entirely through with it just being the melodic verse of the song, in other words, with the operatic and hard rock sections not included, then this would have been the greatest song of all time, period. The intro ("Is this the real life...") and the outro ("Anyway the wind blow...") are fine enough themseleves to stay with the melodic part, as Freddie Mercury harmonises greater than anyone there is, but the operatic and hard rock pieces, as good as they are, should never have been in a song that could have been the most gorgeous song in the entire history of the universe! That's what ruins it, I think. Though it's still great, it could have been graeter. In my personal opinion, Freddie Mercury is the greatest singer there is. I only wish they would have scrapped the operatic and hard rock pieces, for this truly amazing beautiful song! Best, --Discographer (talk) 21:45, 31 December 2009 (UTC)

Having said that, I'd help you with any work you needed done as a wingman if you'd managed to get all the major sources. Also, keep The Strokes in mind. Deletion of album reviews from Infoboxes

Hi Indopug! I just wanted to mention something to you. I've recently come across a number of album articles on which you've deleted the professional reviews in the infobox, citing WP:ALBUM as your rational for doing so. I just thought I should point out that the description found at WP:ALBUM is misleading. A consensus was reached amongst Wiki editors (here, here and to an extent here) to relocate the professional reviews from the infobox to a relevant "Reception" or "Release" type section within each article, using the Album ratings template. This process is further outlined at Wikipedia:Albums#Reception, Template:Album ratings, and WT:ALBUM. In addition, DASHBot has been going around automatically relocating the professional ratings from the infobox to the appropriate section (see here for example) and I was marginally involved in the early trials of this automated process.

Now, of course, I should stress that this Album ratings template is not supposed to be a substitute for a textual description of the album's critical reception; it is intended to merely compliment it. We should still be encouraging editors to write content rather than just add links to professional reviews. So, it's probably fair to say that if the article is lacking in text or has no "reception" section then yes, the professional reviews should probably be deleted. But to delete them from such album articles as Bad, Thriller, Modern Life Is Rubbish, and Queen II as you have done, is not in accordance with the new guidelines for album articles or with editor consensus. It might be a good idea to return to these album articles and reinsert the professional reviews in the appropriate section of the article using the template. You can see some examples of album articles that have had their professional reviews successfully relocated at Revolver, Michael Jackson: The Stripped Mixes, and Parachutes, to name just a few.

Anyway, hopefully you won't mind me bringing this to your attention. It can sometimes get pretty confusing with all the rules and guidelines on Wikipedia. Thanks! --Kohoutek1138 (talk) 02:12, 28 February 2010 (UTC)

Hi Indopug! Thanks for your reply. To address your comments in roughly reverse order, the factual accuracy & syntax things were very, very minor - you said "many" of the songs had a country influence, which intimates a large number do, when in fact there's only about three or four (depending on how you judge a "country influence"). The syntax problem was also very minor; it just felt a little clunky but really it was no biggie at all. I should point out that I did keep some of your changes like "pointing towards" and substituting the album title for the words "the album" because they were improvements, plain and simple.
As for overlinking, I'm very sensitive to that myself and I will admit that "short story" and "film" are perhaps borderline and probably could be unlinked. However, band, drummer, film, songwriter, and especially novelization should stay in my view. Remember, a lot of readers are either very young or perhaps don't speak English as a first language (this is one of the reasons why WP:SPOKEN exists). Hell, I can think of some British adults who’ve spoken English all their lives who might not truly understand what the word "novelization" means. Wikilinks should "aid navigation and understanding" without linking to subjects with no intrinsic relevance to the article. Thus, the (see 1968 in music) is relevant because the album is mentioned in that article and in addition, this is the standard way of formatting links to "in music" pages as per Wikipedia:WikiProject_Music/MUSTARD#Internal_links. I only linked to "Country music" twice in the lead because in the second occurrence, the phrase "country and western" is used and again, the link aids understanding of the term.
Regarding the "Goin' Back"/"Change Is Now" thing, as far as I can tell, this is largely down to the consensus of editors working on a particular band's discography. As such, I could go either way on this really. A-sides and B-sides are listed in this way for a number of artists' album articles, including The Beatles, the Sex Pistols, and The Rolling Stones for instance. On the other hand, Template:Infobox album seems to suggest that only the A-side should be listed, as you have pointed out, and I agree that most album articles seem to follow this format. I dunno, I'll have to have a think about this but I am leaning towards removing the B-sides now. I think you've raised a very important point here, so thank you for that.
As for consensus regarding relocation of album ratings, it's specifically referenced here and here. In addition, the very fact that a bot has been assigned the task of relocating the professional reviews by the Wikipedia:WikiProject Albums community should be ample proof that this is now the accepted course of action. I realise that in all the album articles where you have removed the professional reviews the critical reception was covered in the article text but this text should still be accompanied by links to professional reviews. This is the consensus that was reached and as such, should be adhered to. --Kohoutek1138 (talk) 20:29, 28 February 2010 (UTC)
Hi Indopug! Just so that you know, I was contacted by another editor - WesleyDodds - about this matter, I guess because he had seen my comments here. Anyway, I've replied to him and just to keep you in the loop, you can find my reply here (although, to be honest, it's fairly similar to what I've written here). --Kohoutek1138 (talk) 13:58, 1 March 2010 (UTC)

Dylan and Christmas In The Heart

Indopug, I see you deleted information about Dylan's most recent album from lead in Bob Dylan article. I raised this issue on Bob Dylan Talk page [5]. Arguments I advanced were:

I've restored the short para at end of lead section detailing Dylan's most recent album, Christmas In The Heart. This was deleted by SlubGlub on the grounds that "Wikipedia is not a fan site". I agree with this sentiment, but I would argue that the purpose of lead para is to give overview of Dylan's career. Mention of his most recent album is important to demonstrate that Dylan is still active as a recording artist. His most recent album generated much interest in print and online media because 1) Dylan chose to record traditional Christmas songs, including well-known Christian hymns. (There has long been controversy over Dylan's religious beliefs.) 2) All Dylan's royalties are being donated to 3 charities dedicated to alleviating hunger. IMHO the lead section would be incomplete if it did not mention the artist's most notable recent artistic contribution. What do other editors think?

Consensus on Talk page seemed to be for retaining most recent album in lead. Would you like to contribute to this debate? Mick gold (talk) 08:22, 28 February 2010 (UTC)

Hello, in response to your concerns at the FAC for the article, I have added in some more sources for the personality section to statements that do contain some analysis. However, I feel that the episodes can be used as a source for anything that just states what happens in the episode, for example: "in "They Saved Lisa's Brain" (season ten, 1999) she becomes a member of the Springfield chapter of Mensa." Anyway, does this address your concerns, or do you feel that more work is needed? Thanks, Scorpion0422 00:02, 21 March 2010 (UTC)

Indopug, thanks for making The Seduction of Ingmar Bergman compliant with WP:ALBUM. Should be we keep the earliest release date for the English language version in the infobox, in addition to the Swedish broadcast version's release date? For background, the Swedish broadcast version mixes Swedish and English lyrics. In the English version, most of the Swedish lyrics have been replaced with English ones. The singers are the same as in the Swedish broadcast version. Otherwise I believe the two versions are the same. Their release dates were separated by two or three months. Good Vibrations

Okay, Indopug, I want to know why you keep changing the genre for "Good Vibrations". "Surf rock" is defined as "A genre of popular music associated with surf culture". Although many of The Beach Boys' early songs were of this genre, they later moved on to explore other forms of pop music, such as baroque and psychedelic pop.

Once again, I'll repeat what I said in my edit summary: there are no surf themes in "Good Vibration"'s lyrics at all, and the sound of the record is distinguishable as that of a psychedelic pop song. Just because The Beach Boys did plenty of surf rock songs, and the name of the band themselves is, well "The Beach Boys", does not mean that they weren't able to move on to explore baroque and psychedelic pop in the mid-to-late 1960's.

To avoid edit wars, use a talk page. I'm changing it back to what it was, and if you still disagree, let me know on my talk page before doing any changes. The article "Psychedelic rock" backs up my decision, as well as countless other pages on the Internet. 67.167.122.60 (talk) 01:40, 9 June 2010 (UTC)

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under flagged protection. Flagged protection is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial.

When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.

Any particular reason for why you mysteriously reverted my edit of Blur's Britpop section? Look at the current version:

Hey, you think you can help me review some article revisions selected here? I've reviewed a few already; the selected versions for R.E.M., Nevermind, and In Utero are fine, while I've begun posting better revisions for other articles here. WesleyDodds (talk) 10:30, 22 September 2010 (UTC)

Plastic Beach Genre

Just wanted to say thanks for changing it to simply "alternative hip-hop." I did the same to the Demon Days article in July, and it's been tough keeping it there. So it's good to know that there's someone else who can finally help stop the constant genre-warring on Gorillaz articles. I personally think it would be better to just change the genre on all Gorillaz pages to "alternative hip-hop", just to establish consistency. Cheers. Friginator (talk) 16:06, 20 October 2010 (UTC)

Ner-vana

Might I request that you take a stab at working some material from Nevermind and In Utero (album) into the main Nirvana (band) page? I'm afraid I'm a little rusty in regards to writing band bios, and I could use any help in light of the page's FARC nom. Personally I'd like to focus on completing my drafts of the "Musical style'/"Legacy" sections. WesleyDodds (talk) 08:31, 22 October 2010 (UTC)

Oasis (band)

Just want to tell you that Crolladder has been reported to WP:ANEW for his actions in Oasis (band). Just be careful about not reverting more of his edits in the meantime. On a sidenote, my edit (that you reverted) was only to try and stop the edit war while the matter was being discussed on the talk page. I have no idea who is fundamentally wrong or not, my only goal was to stop the edit war from going further, and that's how it should be. Cheers - CETTALK 19:30, 23 October 2010 (UTC)

Hey, i just wanted to hit you up about working on the article again, because the FARC has been open for a while and I could use help wrapping it up. WesleyDodds (talk) 10:50, 13 November 2010 (UTC)

Hey, just asking again for another run-through of the page, especially since I've got most of the "musical style" section done. WesleyDodds (talk) 03:29, 27 December 2010 (UTC)
I supposed mentioning Cobain's left-handedness would be more appropriate for his article; it's the same reason why I didn't include what types of guitars he favors. As for pre-Warners R.E.M. albums, I'd recommend the one I wrote a GA article for. Lifes Rich Pageant is also a top contender. WesleyDodds (talk) 02:27, 2 January 2011 (UTC)

Beach Boys redirects

Hey- I see that you've been redirecting some articles recently, citing something called WP:NSONGS. NSONGS however, cannot conflict with the main notability guideline, which says that "If a topic has received significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject, it is presumed to satisfy the inclusion criteria for a stand-alone article". There are a myriad of sources which cover these songs, online and in print. Some of them are mentioned here, an AFD which (unanimously) also sets precedence for keeping these articles. (Here's another one, though that article is ridiculously oversourced now, so it's not quite the same.)

If you disagree and must redirect them, however, then I would ask that you move the relevant information into the article you are redirecting people too. I only looked at one of the articles you have redirected, Good to My Baby, which had all sorts of stuff not found in the article about the album (e.g. recording dates, musicians). But, of course, if you were to start putting all of this info on the album page, it would soon become too long, and will need to be split off into articles on the individual songs, which never should have been taken away in the first place.

Not that this really matters, but this will (essentially) be my last edit to Wikipedia. I don't have the patience, energy, or time to argue these things anymore, and that's what Wikipedia essentially is, a long, neverending argument.

I hope that you reconsider your stand. Santa Claus of the Future (talk) 16:27, 24 November 2010 (UTC)

Beach Boys song redirects Part II

Redirects show up in categories in italics. Therefore there can no confusion as to what is an article and what is not. There are a number of editors adding basic information regarding songs. Hi, you reverted edits linking to this page from two Radiohead related pages (http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Radiohead&curid=38252&diff=403337296&oldid=403329567, http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Anyone_Can_Play_Guitar&curid=2233569&diff=403337291&oldid=403155894), but didn't say why.

I made the edits as I thought they were usefuls additions, respectively showing that there is more information availble about the scene RH grew from, and the re-use of the Anyone Can Play Guitar title was worth noting as part of RH's cultural influence. Plus it had the additional benefit of reducing orphan-ness.

Please can you help me understand why you reverted my edits.

Bad Romance

Dear indopug, what do you think are the chances of the above article in the FAC? — Legolas (talk2me) 14:27, 26 December 2010 (UTC)

Many thanks for taking a look. Yes I do agree with you that more info on the recording is needed. I do have the info, just that I'm thinking how best to shorten and add it. I don't wanna go overboard with the technical stuff as that kind of hinders reader interest don't you think? With "Bad Romance" passing I think the burden of all the editors looking up at "4 Minutes" as the model song article, will be lessened too. — Legolas (talk2me) 14:53, 26 December 2010 (UTC)

Semi Protecting The Beach Boys Page

Hello.I don't know about you, but I'm finding it rather annoying that random people are constantly changing the Beach Boys genre from "Rock, pop, surf rock, psychedelic rock" to "Electronic rock, progressive rock, country rock, soft rock" and even made up genres such as "beach rock".Some people have even vandalised the page by calling them "flaming homos" . I really do think it's about time we make this page semi protected so that people can't vandalise the page.Hope to speak to you soon, bye.

SgtPetsounds (talk) 04:04, 8 November 2011 (UTC)

I see from the above that this problem, which I have only stumbled across recently, is ongoing with the article. I too support semi-protection. Also, I find that the emergence of a second IP who doesn't sign his post is, as you say, "fishy". I have asked an admin who is a highly qualified sock detector to look into the recent activity. Jusdafax 03:42, 10 January 2011 (UTC)
I thought sock-puppets too, but one is from New Mexico and the other San Francisco. Or can IP addresses be artificially changed?—indopug (talk) 12:58, 10 January 2011 (UTC)

Led Zeppelin discography

As far as far as I understood, you want be the co-nominator for the featured list candidation I will nominate in a few minutes?-- ♫Greatorangepumpkin♫ T 13:16, 17 January 2011 (UTC)

Mh, I don't like adding music videos. The best site for music videos directors are viewed is MTV. Unfortunately it is only available inside the US, so I have no opportunity to view them (I knew a software, but it is too intricate; I also forgot the name :P), and videos on VH1 don't go, too. Discogs with songs from 1980, the starting of the first videos on MTV, can include a music video section; the so-called music videos I saw on VH1 and other sites are just cuts from concerts. I am nothing but confused about Coda. I don't know if this is a studio album or comp :P. What do you think? Are liner notes more reliable than sites like allmusic?-- ♫Greatorangepumpkin♫ T 18:43, 17 January 2011 (UTC)

Good Article

Well done. Good work. SilkTork *YES! 15:35, 18 January 2011 (UTC)

End of the Century

It is the "can't see the forest from the trees" phenomenon you run into from time to time here; a big-picture perspective does need to be taken, but at least some of the work you, me, and countless others have done elsewhere is being incorporated into that page. Two things stick out to me: the indie rock section is better-written than the indie rock article, and the "electronic rock" section doesn't establish that it's an actual genre, instead of just rock bands who incorporate electronics into their music (also, calling Stereolab "electronic rock" misses the fact they they primarily use vintage analog synths). WesleyDodds (talk) 11:57, 19 January 2011 (UTC)

I think it's a load of OR and synthesis, and should be deleted. WesleyDodds (talk) 12:37, 19 January 2011 (UTC)
Aside: I think "Pop Is Dead" is the worst single I've ever heard. What were they thinking? WesleyDodds (talk) 13:29, 19 January 2011 (UTC)

Perusing Amazon.com, Mick Wall's When Giants Walked the Earth looks to be the best Led Zep bio available. WesleyDodds (talk) 11:30, 23 January 2011 (UTC)

Good news, everybody! Turns out my library has a copy of said book. You wouldn't believe how many people Jimmy Page hit up about forming Led Zeppelin. WesleyDodds (talk) 06:26, 25 January 2011 (UTC)
There seems to be a focus on myth-debunking in this book (for instance, the author clarifies that the real reason the band changed its name from the New Yardbirds is because Chris Dreja hit them with a cease-and-desist order). Not as much focus on the music as I had hoped aside from listing influences, although I am only up to the making of Led Zeppelin II so far. Oh yeah, another fun fact found in the book: there's a quote where Geezer Butler admits that "Paranoid" was an intentional rewrite of "Communication Breakdown".
I'm kind of tempted tackle the "Stairway" article, but this year is also the 20th anniversary of a certain game-changing rock album, and I really should work on getting that to FAC and the Main Page in the coming months. WesleyDodds (talk) 09:00, 26 January 2011 (UTC)

Bizarre. Reminds me of those times editors on classic rock articles were disparaging towards us because they assumed we only knew anything about alternative rock. In other news, once I finish reading this Zeppelin book I'll start sourcing. New fun fact: Robert Plant refused to sing anything that was "too heavy metal" at the reunion concert, which instantly nixed "Immigrant Song" and "Achilles' Last Stand" (Jimmy Page was particularly crushed by the exclusion of the latter). WesleyDodds (talk) 01:38, 30 January 2011 (UTC)

Surprisingly undeveloped article. You can catch the entire Classic Album episode about it on YouTube. WesleyDodds (talk) 09:01, 31 January 2011 (UTC)
That's my favorite Zeppelin album, incidentally. WesleyDodds (talk) 10:21, 31 January 2011 (UTC)
Couple of options, depending on whether compilations/reissues count. Scratch My Back and Crazy for You were favorite new releases, although I haven't been able to listen to Not Music until the last month and I'm really digging it now. As for comps, one in particular totally rocked my face off. WesleyDodds (talk) 10:41, 31 January 2011 (UTC)
I like the Cat Power, Bright Eyes, Pixies, and Black Eyed Peas ones the best. WesleyDodds (talk) 10:57, 1 February 2011 (UTC)

These lists seem like bad ideas to me. WesleyDodds (talk) 08:41, 5 February 2011 (UTC)

Questions about Collaboration of the Week

Hi Indopug, I am a PhD student from the Carnegie Mellon University. I am interested in the Wikipedia community, especially the mechanism of collaboration of the work. I noticed that you have participated Alternative Music WikiProject’s collaboration before. Could you please take several minutes to answer five questions if possible? Thanks for your help!

1. How many times (approximately) have you participated in the alternative music collaboration of the week?

2. Why did you participate in the alternative music collaboration of the week?

3. Do you feel you become a better editor through participating in collaboration? If so, could you provide some examples?

4. How did alternative music collaboration of the week change your behaviors? What causes the changes?

5. Are you still participating alternative music collaboration of the week recently? Why?

You could leave your answer either in your or my talk page if possible. Thanks for your time! We have the same goal to make Wikipedia a better place.

Cheers --Haiyizhu (talk) 17:37, 24 January 2011 (UTC)

Crystal Castles

There are several IPs who seem to think they own the article. Your edit was reverted and rather cynically described as vandalism. Thinking about putting in a 3RR report for 130. In the meantime, I'm going to dig through the article, there are several IPs twisting things about Crystal Castles. Perhaps not surprising that fans do edit the page, but they can do so without POV if they really try. Geoff B (talk) 16:48, 5 February 2011 (UTC)

I note several different IPs making the same edits. I'm thinking off-wiki collaboration, on a fan forum somewhere. Geoff B (talk) 17:42, 6 February 2011 (UTC)
I guess we need to put up a semi-protect request. I'm not sure how to do that though.—indopug (talk) 18:11, 6 February 2011 (UTC)
No problem, I can manage that, did it a few times before. Mr. Googly Eye and the Glum Brothers

So I take it you are going to get the new Radiohead album, yes? WesleyDodds (talk) 03:47, 18 February 2011 (UTC)

I have to admit the only full-length I own by them is In Rainbows, chiefly because they allowed me to get it for free. I do own The Best of, though. Personally, I've never gotten the hype. For an "important" rock band, they seem just OK to me. WesleyDodds (talk) 04:00, 18 February 2011 (UTC)
That Tumblr the talk of a few of my friends. Now, while I'd be the first to say Arcade Fire aren't exactly the second coming of Led Zeppelin or R.E.M. in terms of musical merit, I'm surprised that so many people seem ignorant of their existence until now. WesleyDodds (talk) 04:24, 18 February 2011 (UTC)
I watched the video for "Lotus Flower" and though to myself "Remember when they wrote actual songs where Thom Yorke actually sang instead of mewling over his favorite Warp Records hand-me-downs?" WesleyDodds (talk) 09:17, 19 February 2011 (UTC)

Query: are you ever going to put Blur (band) up for GAN? WesleyDodds (talk) 10:43, 28 March 2011 (UTC)
I always have to be in a certain mood to write Nirvana articles; there's so much information to sort through it requires a certain amount of drive. The article is about 75-80 percent there, I'd say; the Music and Legacy sections are the only ones that really need to be bulked up. I have no issue tackling the former, but I'm not all that into working on the latter. By the way, I figure there'd be a Spin article or two covering the 2000s for Blur, which should enable sorting that whole section out. WesleyDodds (talk) 05:53, 29 March 2011 (UTC)
I believe the response you are looking for is called "headdesk". WesleyDodds (talk) 06:21, 3 April 2011 (UTC)
I'm skimming through preview pages of this Cliff Burton biography on Amazon, and while I knew he liked R.E.M. already, it becomes clear that they were in fact one of his absolute favorite bands. He was evidently really jealous that his girlfriend got to go to an R.E.M. show while we was on tour and so he asked her to tell him what the show was like--and then he died the day of that show. WesleyDodds (talk) 07:15, 3 April 2011 (UTC)

Interested in helping source this in Pixies for the musical style section? I'm going to busy myself with rereading that 2004 Spin article. WesleyDodds (talk) 07:32, 4 April 2011 (UTC)

I realized I haven't produced a Good Article in a year. With that in mind, I'm thinking of sprucing up "Here Comes Your Man". WesleyDodds (talk) 08:03, 5 April 2011 (UTC)
I always figured we should make it a monthly collaboration. WesleyDodds (talk) 22:07, 5 April 2011 (UTC)

You see the last AFD for that page? Really could've used greater imput. WesleyDodds (talk) 09:15, 7 April 2011 (UTC)

Hey, I was rereading the Modern Life Is Rubbish article and double-checked a citation that didn't seem right to me. The sentence "A few weeks later, on 10 May 1993, Modern Life was released, and it peaked at number 15 in UK Album Chart." is not supported by the next-closest ref (the one talking about the "Public image" photos), so you're going to need a cite for it. Learning the Ins and Outs of Wikipedia

Hey man, long time. I've expanded my Wikipedia editing a bit and was looking for some help creating a disambiguation page. Can you help me out? I read the Wikipedia page about it, but it doesn't seem to explain where to go to create the actual page. (EGorodetsky (talk) 18:34, 29 March 2011 (UTC))

Thanks, I knew I've seen that link before. The problem is that the page already exists. It's Edward Laurence Doheny. If you type in "Ed Doheny" into the address bar of Firefox (don't know if it works on other browsers), it will redirect to that page. However, there is another completely separate page for Ed Doheny, which I believe should be the disambiguation page that holds links to both articles. I'd appreciate it if, rather than doing it for me, you could guide me through it so that I can learn to do it myself. Thanks. (EGorodetsky (talk) 03:14, 31 March 2011 (UTC))

Hi, I just wanted to let you know (in case you didn't see) that I responded to the concerns you voiced with the FAC for Zoo TV Tour. If you could please respond and do a comprehensive read-through of the article, I'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks. Y2Kcrazyjoker4 (talkcontributions) 18:28, 1 April 2011 (UTC)

So sorry to inconvenience you again, but I was just wondering if you were planning to do a more comprehensive review of the Zoo TV Tour article since it is in the latter stages of its FAC. Please let me know and if there are any concerns, I'll try to address them ASAP. Thanks. Y2Kcrazyjoker4 (talkcontributions) 18:26, 18 April 2011 (UTC)

Please check disco

hello,

could you check Miles Davis discography for MOS issues? Is this ready for FLC? Please I need your advice. Thank you.--♫Greatorangepumpkin♫T 08:51, 4 April 2011 (UTC)

hello,

I cleaned up the chart position columns (removed Japanese and cleaned up British and Australian charts); but these issues you mentioned on my talk page and in the FLC are not completely resolved:

  • 200 million certified units or 300 worldwide?
  • We had so much discussions about that; what is the right number?
  • Is Coda a studio album or a compilation album?
  • This was also discussed at the talk page; Studio album seems to be correct, but we need to be 100% sure, that it is really correct.
  • Why no music videos?
  • I did mentioned it before. What is your résumé?
  • I mean, do you agree with me, that music videos are slight in discographies?--♫Greatorangepumpkin♫T 09:24, 6 April 2011 (UTC)

Please I need your advice. I opened this discussion to be sure that you won't oppose in the next FLC. We need to get this featured; I can see the star above :). Regards.--♫Greatorangepumpkin♫T 11:25, 5 April 2011 (UTC)

Hey. I'm doing a PR over this article and I would appreciate if you go over it. I believe it has FA potential, but it needs outside help. I Help, When I Can. [12] 02:06, 8 April 2011 (UTC)

Certifications

Hi, I have a doubt. What is the maximum number of certifications that can be added for a particular album/singles in a discography? Also, can certifications for small markets like the Netherlands and Sweden be added? KingdomHearts25 (talk) 19:37, 10 April 2011 (UTC)

Pixies FAR

Hi Indopug, how are you? I hope all is well. Back in November you wrote some comments on the FAR for Pixies. It's now in the FARC stage and we've been having trouble getting any reviewers. If you happen to have time, would you be interested in having a look and possibly reviewing? (If you don't have time, no worries, I'm going to try to contact some other people, too.) Take care, Moisejp (talk) 11:46, 18 April 2011 (UTC)

Indopug, this is just a quick ping on this. It looks like the FAR is starting to wrap up, and it would be great to get any final comments from you. Thanks, Dana boomer (talk) 15:42, 8 June 2011 (UTC)

Hasty revert

Please see here You removed several categories, the Feedback tool, and an interwiki link. I imagine that you didn't mean to do this, so I would simply caution you to be a little more careful when reverting. —Justin (koavf)TCM☯ 20:22, 1 May 2011 (UTC)

You've got mail

You've got mail, check and answer, pls. Thanks, Pupika (talk) 14:31, 17 May 2011 (UTC)

Hello, I recently nominated OK Computer for FAC, because I'm almost sure that it meets the criteria. Do you have any suggestions? TGilmour (talk) 13:45, 26 June 2011 (UTC)

Bowie acting information removal

Hello, I'm curious why my edit to the David Bowie page about the movie opportunity with Mick Jagger that fell through was removed. I feel it's relevant, well-sourced and not covered anywhere else. Just curious why it was removed without comment.

Hey!!!

Haven't seen you in a while until this comment at FAC. --Efe (talk) 12:01, 6 November 2011 (UTC)

Sheer Heart Attack

Have you read the new Queen bio Is This the Real Life? I checked it out recently and was thinking I could add citations to your idle Queen II draft, though I had to return it to the library. But I anticipate checking it out again. WesleyDodds (talk) 03:37, 15 December 2011 (UTC)
