Picture Copyright Question

Are using photos from Pinterest okay? Thanks In veritas (talk) 01:34, 2 December 2015 (UTC)

In general, no. The copyright holder would need to have explicitly released the image under a free license that allows everybody to re-use and modify the image for any purpose, including commercial purposes. That's rather unlikely. Otherwise Wikipedia will treat Pinterest images just like any other non-free images. See WP:NFCC for details. Huon (talk) 01:52, 2 December 2015 (UTC)
@Huon: Thank you for the answer! In veritas (talk) 01:53, 2 December 2015 (UTC)

Thanks

For the speedy tag on the Bibith article. I was about to use A7 but your works just as well. FYI this will be the second time it is deleted. If it pops up a third time we may need to request that it be salted. Thanks again. MarnetteD|Talk 03:55, 3 December 2015 (UTC)

@MarnetteD: Your welcome, glad I could help. If you need help with getting it salted, just tell me. In veritas (talk) 03:59, 3 December 2015 (UTC)

speedy deletion
why added speedy deletion tag my page Ikmanrevision (talk) 06:03, 4 December 2015 (UTC)

WikiProject X Newsletter • Issue 6

Newsletter • January 2016

Hello there! Happy to be writing this newsletter once more. This month:

What comes next

Some good news: the Wikimedia Foundation has renewed WikiProject X. This means we can continue focusing on making WikiProjects better.

During our first round of work, we created a prototype WikiProject based on two ideas: (1) WikiProjects should clearly present things for people to do, and (2) The content of WikiProjects should be automated as much as possible. We launched pilots, and for the most part it works. But this approach will not work for the long term. While it makes certain aspects of running a WikiProject easier, it makes the maintenance aspects harder.

We are working on a major overhaul that will address these issues. New features will include:

  • Creating WikiProjects by simply filling out a form, choosing which reports you want to generate for your project. This will work with existing bots in addition to the Reports Bot reports. (Of course, you can also have sections curated by humans.)
  • One-click button to join a WikiProject, with optional notifications.
  • Be able to define your WikiProject's scope within the WikiProject itself by listing relevant pages and categories, eliminating the need to tag every talk page with a banner. (You will still be allowed to do that, of course. It just won't be required.)

The end goal is a collaboration tool that can be used by WikiProjects but also by any edit-a-thon or group of people that want to coordinate on improving articles. Though implemented as an extension, the underlying content will be wikitext, meaning that you can continue to use categories, templates, and other features as you normally would.

This will take a lot of work, and we are just getting started. What would you like to see? I invite you to discuss on our talk page.

Until next time,

Help me!

This is an anti-vandalism question, if an user is changing the height and weight of a living or dead person should I revert it? Thank you.

In veritas (talk) 01:25, 25 January 2016 (UTC)

Well that depends. Is there a source or way for you to check if that height is correct? I often revert if there is a massive change (5ft > 6ft or something like that), but a change in an inch may be a legitimate change. --allthefoxes (Talk) 01:49, 25 January 2016 (UTC)
@Allthefoxes: Thank you, that sounds like a good guideline, so on some of my recent reverts I guess I have been a little overzealous. The hardest part is most of the height/weight info does not have inline refs to begin with. In veritas (talk) 01:52, 25 January 2016 (UTC)
Right, which can make it hard. But you do need to assume good faith. Any major changes tend to be vandalism, but small changes can definitely be correct. If you cannot verify it, I often leave it so someone closer with the subject matter can check on it. --allthefoxes (Talk) 01:54, 25 January 2016 (UTC)
@Allthefoxes: Yeah I agree, good faith is important, I guess my little stunt in reverting minor weight/height changes is over. Thank you for the help. In veritas (talk) 01:58, 25 January 2016 (UTC)

Pending changes reviewer granted

Hello. Your account has been granted the "pending changes reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on pages protected by pending changes. The list of articles awaiting review is located at Special:PendingChanges, while the list of articles that have pending changes protection turned on is located at Special:StablePages.

Being granted reviewer rights neither grants you status nor changes how you can edit articles. If you do not want this user right, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time.

Um, I'm not sure what was wrong with the edit that I made. All that I did was correct a spelling error. Thanks 173.67.173.65 (talk) 02:10, 29 January 2016 (UTC)

Reviewing the edits again I realized I made a mistake. Sorry, at first I thought you were adding a spam link. Once again sorry for the confusion. In veritas (talk) 02:13, 29 January 2016 (UTC)
Okay, thanks for clearing that up. 173.67.173.65 (talk) 02:17, 29 January 2016 (UTC)

Hi can you tell me what i need to do to my page so that it is not in the (speedy deletion) area? Thanks Verse And The Vices (talk) 05:44, 1 February 2016 (UTC)

@Verse And The Vices: You need to find third-party sources that meet WP:Source to prove that your band is notable enough to be on Wikipedia (Wikipedia:Notability). If you have questions just respond here. In veritas (talk) 05:47, 1 February 2016 (UTC)

rollback

Hi In veritas. After reviewing your request for "rollbacker", I have enabled rollback on your account. Keep in mind these things when going to use rollback:

  • Getting rollback is no more momentous than installing Twinkle.
  • Rollback should be used to revert clear cases of vandalism only, and not good faith edits.
  • Rollback should never be used to edit war.
  • If abused, rollback rights can be revoked.
  • Use common sense.

If you no longer want rollback, contact me and I'll remove it. Also, for some more information on how to use rollback, see Wikipedia:New admin school/Rollback (even though you're not an admin). I'm sure you'll do great with rollback, but feel free to leave me a message on my talk page if you run into troubles or have any questions about appropriate/inappropriate use of rollback. Thank you for helping to reduce vandalism. Happy editing! Katietalk 16:24, 4 February 2016 (UTC)

Good faith? That's vandalism. If you check the page history, the user is removing content without any explanation and has received multiple warning. Your warning for this edit should have been a level 4.  LeoFrank  Talk 13:42, 5 February 2016 (UTC)

@LeoFrank: Okay, from my view it looked like the person was just changing route information that just needed to be sourced, but since it was such a major change, it needed to be reverted. Thanks for giving me a second opinion. In veritas (talk) 13:46, 5 February 2016 (UTC)

Thanks for uploading File:Infra(logo).png. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described in the criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. --B-bot (talk) 18:38, 15 February 2016 (UTC)

Hi, I do not understand your revert, or your reference to WP:WIKICODE on Jish. What is relevant, surely, is WP:CITESHORT: most of the articles on places in Israel/Palestine follow that way of citation. And, as you can see, it is enough that the full citation is in the Bibliography-section (which it is).

Please self-revert, thanks, Huldra (talk) 20:14, 17 February 2016 (UTC)

@Huldra: The reason I changed the citation is because it prevents a red error being printed out at the bottom of the page where the references are. In veritas (talk) 00:57, 18 February 2016 (UTC)
Ah, I see, thanks. That red error was because <ref name=Morris508> was defined twice, with unequal content. It is better then to remove one of the references, and replace it with <ref name=Morris508/>. (As I have done on Jish, now), Cheers, Huldra (talk) 22:26, 18 February 2016

(UTC)

@Huldra: Good job fixing the edit, glad a successful clean looking solution was found. In veritas (talk) 22:28, 18 February 2016 (UTC)

A question about my DR request

Hello - Since you took at least a passing interest in my [DRN case] I thought i'd trouble you for some advice. Since I'm willing to do most anything to get this thing moving I have one question. If I get a UserName account, is there any problem with linking my new account with my IP number? If you think about it I'm the only person who can make my case so there really is no need to worry about somebody trying to impersonate me.I keep thinking that adding yet another case name to the list of names might make things more confusing. And I think the dispute can be fairly easily resolved once the other editor comes to the table is forced to explain himself and at least listen to my points. __209.179.22.107 (talk) 04:40, 20 February 2016 (UTC)

No trouble at all, what I would do is create an account then logout and put your new account name on your IP's talk page and sign it with your IP, that way no doubt in the world exists that it is your account, and then edit the DRN page to reflect your new username. If you need any help just respond here. As soon as you do that, I most likely will take the case as a moderator. In veritas (talk) 04:57, 20 February 2016 (UTC)
Okay, I think I've got it right. My new account name is shown below, I've put a notice on the 209.179.22.107 (talk) page, and I amended the DRN request page. I appreciate your help and if there's something else I forgot to do please let me know. Thanks again. __Camino 2-1-2 (talk) 03:35, 22 February 2016 (UTC)
@Camino 2-1-2: Everything seems right, especially since the other IP was used earlier in the dispute. Now you will maintain a constant identity, which should make this and other Wikipedia processes easier. I have opened the case. Also eventually you will be granted auto-confirmed status WP:AUTOC, which will allow you to edit semi-protected pages. If you need any more help just respond here. Welcome to Wikipedia, and don't let this incident discourage you from participating more fully in the community. In veritas (talk) 04:16, 22 February 2016 (UTC)

Normally I would answer your previous message (04:17, 24 February 2016) on my Talk page but I'm answering it here in order to keep everything close together. If you will hold off on closing the DRN, I'll go ahead an post my 2 cents worth at the DRN, and maybe RKLawton will see it and finally respond. It's worth a shot, even if it means I finally realize where I'm wrong. __Camino 2-1-2 (talk) 22:48, 24 February 2016 (UTC)

@Camino 2-1-2: Sure, as long as an active productive conservation is happening I am happy to help. In veritas (talk) 23:15, 24 February 2016 (UTC)
Well, I did my entry. However, I didn't know how to format it for the particular format of that board, so if the formatting is wrong, so be it. I couldn't find a proper guide to show how it should be done correctly, and since I have never had to resort to a DRN before, I'm in unexplored territory. __Camino 2-1-2 (talk) 05:06, 25 February 2016 (UTC)
@Camino 2-1-2:You did fine, you just need to put it below the correction discussion section next time, but don't worry I have moved it. Also, your username is Camino 2-1-2 not Camino1-2-3. I will notify the other editor and hopefully he will respond. In veritas (talk) 05:17, 25 February 2016 (UTC)

Cummer Valley Middle School

I declined the speedy deletion nomination of Cummer Valley Middle School because schools are ineligible for speedy deletion. You can read more about valid speedy deletion criteria here: WP:CSD. - MrX 01:43, 23 February 2016 (UTC)

@MrX: Okay, I knew the school meet the notability guidelines, but with the other content I was not sure what to do. Thanks for the advice. In veritas (talk) 02:14, 23 February 2016 (UTC)

@MrX: Okay will do, thanks. In veritas (talk) 02:20, 23 February 2016 (UTC)

WikiProject X Newsletter • Issue 7

Newsletter • February 2016

This month:

One database for Wikipedia requests

Development of the extension for setting up WikiProjects, as described in the last issue of this newsletter, is currently underway. No terribly exciting news on this front.

In the meantime, we are working on a prototype for a new service we hope to announce soon. The problem: there are requests scattered all across Wikipedia, including requests for new articles and requests for improvements to existing articles. We Wikipedians are very good at coming up with lists of things to do. But once we write these lists, where do they end up? How can we make them useful for all editors—even those who do not browse the missing articles lists, or the particular WikiProjects that have lists?

Introducing Wikipedia Requests, a new tool to centralize the various lists of requests around Wikipedia. Requests will be tagged by category and WikiProject, making it easier to find requests based on what your interests are. Accompanying this service will be a bot that will let you generate reports from this database on any wiki page, including WikiProjects. This means that once a request is filed centrally, it can syndicated all throughout Wikipedia, and once it is fulfilled, it will be marked as "complete" throughout Wikipedia. The idea for this service came about when I saw that it was easy to put together to-do lists based on database queries, but it was harder to do this for human-generated requests when those requests are scattered throughout the wiki, siloed throughout several pages. This should especially be useful for WikiProjects that have overlapping interests.

The newsletter this month is fairly brief; not a lot of news, just checking in to say that we are hard at work and hope to have more for you soon.

Until next time,

Harej (talk) 01:44, 24 February 2016 (UTC)

Note at COM:AN

Thanks for your note at Commons:COM:AN regarding the images uploaded by Digits21. I've deleted all of them, except for File:Multi-tier1.jpg — it's a reasonable illustration of a video-storage device, but the rest are rather useless except for advertising, and one of them even incorporated a large Google Maps screenshot. Nyttend (talk) 01:17, 27 February 2016 (UTC)

Bobble Joe Cavnar Fixed

This was my first edit, I only put the information in as a place holder until I was going to rewrite it. I removed the Content and added sources for birth and death. I will write the information in my own words and reference the sources. Thank you for pointing it out. Cagura (talk) 05:58, 27 February 2016 (UTC)

@Cagura: Your welcome, if you need help just ask here or at the WP:Teahouse (most likely it will be answered there faster). Copyright is taken very seriously on Wikipedia, that is why the article was tagged so fast. Also WP:Notable is something you need to read, because if you write an article that fails notability it can be deleted. I hope this has not deterred you from editing Wikipedia more!
